Venezuela? What's the flow of terrorists from Venezuela? I guess it and NK have been added just to try to convince the courts that it's not a Muslim ban. Rather, it's a Muslim plus anyone else who's ** off the alt-president ban.

If it is truly because of terrorists, Saudi Arabia should be on top of the list.

My goodness, every time he does something ridiculous he has one of those 'here hold my beer' moments. We all know he's just trying to look tough for his base but he's actually incredibly incompetent and an embarrassment of epic proportions.

I guess there is a rationality behind this new ban based on what information the governments of those countries provide the US, however this will always heavily discriminate against poor countries as those countries may not have good information on their own populations

Just keep adding a few names at a time, throw in some token no-Muslim countries, and soon the list will be long. Because conservatives are just too afraid,

On the bright side, with all of those tourists from North Korea, Venezuela, and Chad out of the way, think of how short the lines at Disneyland will become!

Although I do not agree with the travel restrictions on Venezuela, I believe the North Korean one (except for refugees) is a no brainer. I thought there was already some type of restriction in place.

As much as I dislike Trump and see him to be not fit for office and a bit un-hinged, some of the reactions to Trump our even crazier, such as London Mayor Khan

It seems like the world is spinning out of control and people are losing their minds!

What this article fails to highlight as that the bans on Venezuela only apply to the government and their families, not the average citizen.

"Seven of the countries face wide-ranging restrictions, which effectively block travel for most citizens, while the limits imposed on Venezuela will only apply to a group of government officials and their families."

from Guardian article.

@Matt - Thank you for pointing that out. That is a major omission. I wonder why Japan Today (Or Thomsen Reuters) decided to leave that out of the article?

That Sun headline is (what a surprise!) sensational and misleading. This is what Khan actually said:

*Think about what you are saying.’ Because what you are saying is not dissimilar to what Daesh or so-called IS says.“They say that there is a clash of civilisations, it is not possible to be a Muslim and a westerner, and the west hates us. And you are inadvertently playing their game, you are helping them.”*

He's absolutely right; Trump is aiding their so-called cause by promoting a clash of civilisations.

@goldeneagle

"If it is truly because of terrorists, Saudi Arabia should be on top of the list."

Yep, Saudis who perpetrated 9/11 are still not banned. It's amazing what a gold medal, sword dance and arms deal will allow a country to get away with.

There were tourists going from NK to the US??????

The Problem with Venezuela is that the far left embrace socialism to its grandeur fullest and watching the politics in that country overflow, the inflation, the suppression of basic human rights to food and to even speak or dissent are attacked, rooted out by the fascists, a perfect window and role model for the Sanders bros. God forbid that kind of socialism take root in the states, the US as we know it would cease to exist.

Did you run that opinion through Google Translate? It's pretty hard to parse. Or maybe it's just my liberal brain.

Again, you really consider Venezuelans a threat to US security?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

There is USA hate speech coming from Venezuela. Only the wealthy from there can afford to travel - those are the people who can apply pressure on the current govt in power to change. About time they are banned. I would block their oil imports too.

NK should have been banned from travel to the USA since the first time they lied about nuclear arms ... so ... 1992. Plus, we've been in a state of war with NK since the 1950s. Do waring countries allow enemy citizens visits and vacations?

Don't know about Chad. Think I've flown over it a few times. Even in the airplane at 36Kft, it was hot.

It is senseless and cruel to ban whole nationalities of people who are often fleeing the very same violence that the U.S. government wishes to keep out.

It should say ' people who are often fleeing the violence that the US and allies create in those countries.'

Regarding Venezuela; Again it sounds like this ban is only for government officials and not citizens. Also I do not hear much from Michael Moore and Sean Penn anymore about how great Venezuela's government is.

I would hope the U.S. would accept refugees from there as they have resorted to eating pets and zoo animals. Very sad.

The American Civil Liberties Union said in a statement the addition of North Korea and Venezuela "doesn't obfuscate the real fact that the administration's order is still a Muslim ban."

Oh dear. Is the ACLU aware that not everyone in Iran and Syria is muslim? Are they aware that people from other muslim-majority countries are not banned from travel to the US?

The ban is a daft idea, but it's not a "muslim ban", and to claim otherwise only makes the ACLU look ridiculous and hysterical.

Probably the latter.

Again, you really consider Venezuelans a threat to US security?

Ahhh, the glorious days of Chavez.....Yeah, I do, not so much as far as security is concerned but the spread of their socialist propaganda and influence they have in

Latin America, they can be politically a significant threat

At this rate, there won't be any countries where foreigners can come from, by the time Trump leaves office.
