It takes a very cold heart to pardon a racist torturer like Joe Arpaio yet prosecute Dreamers.

Undoing DACA could have political consequences for Trump

How? He's really only supported by that 35% who gloss over things like defrauding Americans, molesting women, and discrimination lawsuits. Adding Dreamers to the list will most likely make them cheer.

It's a tough one. You always want to show heart and compassion to children, but this didn't happen by accident, the parents of these children knew that if they push their kids to make the journey and enter in the US, the very moment they get their legal status papers, they will send for the rest of their family members, other siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, mothers and fathers, this has the potential of tripling the number of people entering this country, potential problems for abuse of the system to take root. All in all, it's not a good idea.

That's about 65 million people, California has a population of about 40 million and that State wanted Hillary, just switch them around and replace them with Trump voters, you now have the majority.

I don't follow. If we change Clinton supporters to Trump supporters then Trump has majority support?

Just switch the number, imagine in California those Hillary voters are Trump voters, reverse it, so now you got the majority as you say, but regardless and all jokes aside. Who cares, we have the EC system and that IS our system and the election is over. Dems need to stop whining and put their so called ideas....real ideas to winning a few elections.

You have No borders, you have No country. I don't know how Trump will rule on this, he may keep the Obama policy on DACA in place or may just scrape the entire thing. We shall see.

OK. Then?

It's time to deport the anti-American Trump and his acolytes.

It is unfortunate and arguably criminal that those parents are using their children as a means and justification to enter and live in the U.S. illegally.  They know there are immigration laws but choose to ignore it.  The children of those "Dreamers" grow up thinking they and their parents entered the country legally only to find out otherwise.

I've lived in a part of Los Angeles, California that is heavily Latino, mostly from Mexico.  It was always interesting when I asked them how they felt about people entering their country (i.e., Mexico) illegally, especially from Guatemala, Honduras or Nicaragua, etc.  Many oppose illegal entry into Mexico and believe those people should be kicked out.  Of course what applied to others never applies to them.

The liberals are always condoning illegal entry into the U.S., but then look the other way when Mexico or any other country that has strict anti-illegal immigration laws deports its illegal aliens.

Rep. Steve King of Iowa said it best, "There is no ambiguity in Congress about whether the DREAM Act's amnesty program should be the law of the land. It has been rejected by Congress, and yet President Obama has decided that he will move forward with it anyway. President Obama, an ex constitutional law professor, whose favorite word is audacity, is prepared to violate the principles of Constitutional Law that he taught."

Enough said.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Don't trust Paul Ryan at all. This program should have never existed in the first place. But fine, if the Dems want some legislation for these people innocently promised something by Obama that he legally couldn't promise then make a deal.

Dreamer legislation can be passed once Dems fund the building of the wall.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Since when did the rule of law no longer apply to children?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Don't trust Paul Ryan at all

I would not Trust Trump either:

White House walks back promise about Trump donating his ‘personal money’ to Harvey victims

(news quote)

Wow, Trump followers are like an abused spouse who never leaves the abuser. Batting a one-thousand on broken promises but they keep coming back like cult followers.

once Dems fund the building of the wall.

What about the Mexicans (more and more broken promises)

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Ryan and his buddies get caught up too much in all these special cause type things because they want to be personally seen as "good" people. Dreamers aren't even kids, the average age is 25 according to what I read.

So he helps Dems with this without asking for anything in return then the Dems laugh at him and say NO next time he needs their vote. He will never learn but doesn't seem to care as long as he looks "good".

Did you not understand this part?

"Nancy Pelosi, the top House Democrat, said she was"heartened" by Ryan's comments and asked him to meet with Democratic lawmakers next week to discuss a "comprehensive legislative solution.""

I didn't read anything about Ryan or any other Republican actually agreeing to anything, did you?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

I am tired of the US rewarding criminal behavior. Illegal immigration is.. well.. illegal, just like stealing and embezzlement

Did Ryan become a Democrat?

They both violated the law

You keep mentioning "the Dems" when the article is about Republicans who support the DACA. And Trump's funding problem is with Republicans in Congress. Seems that you default to criticizing Democrats as a way to skirt the conflicts he has with his own party. I suppose a narrative about "fanatical Republicans oppose everything Trump does" doesn't sound that great.

It's going to be pretty creepy if ICE start showing up at high schools to pull students out for deportation. Imagine being in school and some guy you've known for 10 years suddenly isn't there anymore and is on a plane to a country he's never been to.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Missing the point. Some Repubs will support anything the Dems want. For example Obamacare or this dreamer thing.

but NO Dems will support funding the wall or anything else in the Repub agenda. So it Dems want Dreamer legislation, then Repubs should trade their support for that to get Dem support for funding the wall.

But no, some Repubs just give away their support for nothing. Then when it's time to vote for wall funding all Dems will say NO.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

NO Dems will support funding the wall

Because the only merits of the wall are emotional, not actual. As far as meeting the stated goals (keeping out immigrants and drugs), the money that would be spent on the wall could be far more efficiently used. The wall itself won't be effective at keeping out immigrants, nor drugs. Sure, it will have some effect, but when you look at the cost relative to the benefit, it's very low. That money can be far more effectively used to meet the same goals.

As a Republican, you should be on board with that. The Republicans are supposed to be the party of fiscal responsibility.

@blacklab, from your post, seems like the Dems are smart about getting what they want even being lost in the woods, losing the election and having no majority. Didn't your boy say he was a great negotiator, who in fact cannot negotiate with his own team?

Bwa-hahahaha! Tell us another one!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

OK. Then?

Then they'd be the majority, but that's all "what if?" scenarios. Anyway, the election is over, you guys need to move on.

You keep mentioning "the Dems" when the article is about Republicans who support the DACA. And Trump's funding problem is with Republicans in Congress.

Mind you have a collective 15% approval rating, that's bad, real bad.

Seems that you default to criticizing Democrats as a way to skirt the conflicts he has with his own party.

Yeah, but the sad thing is, the Democrats are in a deep bog of their own and from the looks of it, they'll be looking up to a headless horseman for a long time to come.

I suppose a narrative about "fanatical Republicans oppose everything Trump does" doesn't sound that great.

Many of them didn't like him to begin with as if that's a shocker, oh please....

It's going to be pretty creepy if ICE start showing up at high schools to pull students out for deportation. Imagine being in school and some guy you've known for 10 years suddenly isn't there anymore and is on a plane to a country he's never been to.

If they are illegal they shouldn't be in the country in the first place. The law is the law, you break it and do the crime, you should also do the time.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Then they'd be the majority, but that's all "what if?"

Sigh, again? Not true. Write back when repubes win the popular vote.

I still don't get it. Some Republicans support DACA. You're saying they should hold out for concessions? What if Democrats say NO? Does the Republican then vote against the DACA even though he supports it, just because he couldn't get concessions?

bass: Then they'd be the majority

Well, sure. If we take a large chunk of Democrats and move them over to Trump's side, then Trump has majority support. Seems pretty obvious. I just don't get how that's relevant to anything.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

but NO Dems will support funding the wall

WRONG:

"The Secure Fence Act of 2006, which was passed by a Republican Congress and signed by President George W. Bush, authorized about 700 miles of fencing along certain stretches of land between the border of the United States and Mexico. The act also authorized the use of more vehicle barriers, checkpoints and lighting to curb illegal immigration, and the use of advanced technology such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles. At the time the act was being considered, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer were all members of the Senate. (Schumer of New York is now the Senate minority leader.) Obama, Clinton, Schumer and 23 other Democratic senators voted in favor of the act when it passed in the Senate by a vote of 80 to 19."

(news source)

So if the wall doesn't go up (and Republicans have complete control now) it's Trump's broken promise. It's his fault.

If they are illegal they shouldn't be in the country in the first place.

But Trump is doing nothing new about it since Obama. Another broken promise. Trump promised mass mass deportation of the 30-40 million illegals Trump claims exist in the USA. What happened to that promised. And Republicans control the entire government. It is his fault and his broken promise.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

No, it's true, and your math is wrong, that's why the left have a problem with numbers and calculations, but that's all water under the bridge, we have to get over this and move forward. Whining about the past won't solve anything, it just makes the left look stupid.

Anyway, let's see what's going to happen. I have compassion for children but the law is the law and you can't break it, a nation with no borders is not a nation. Try that in Mexico, they would kick you out so fast. Mexicans have some of the strictest immigration policies around of any country, so if they can defend their border vigorously and they should and have every right, so should we.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Mexicans have some of the strictest immigration policies around of any country

Can you be more specific? Strict how?

a nation with no borders is not a nation.

But Trump broke his double promise on the wall: Mexico not paying and no wall in the first place.

Don't you think it's weird here how the mods continually permit you to baselessly and personally insult vast swathes of the user base here? What's your arrangement that gets you so coddled and protected from the slightest criticism while allowing you to habitually lash out at everyone else?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No, it's true

We are in agreement here. If we take a chunk of Clinton supporters and pretend they are Trump supporters, then Trump certainly has majority support. No doubt about that.

and your math is wrong

Ah, I see. I was multiplying when I needed to divide. What number did you get?
