11 to 40 billion. Oh so now Dems want to talk about threats to “national security” when their precious foreign aid is cut.

What are these countries going to attack us if we cut their aid?

So the USA is paying for abortions around the world?

which cuts funding to groups that support abortion rights. "Your budget and action is devastating to the health of women around the world," Frankel said.

I’m surprised, you’re surprised, but you should know Democrats could care less how and where our money is spent even if it’s overseas.

Pompeo said the budget sought to double funds for countering China's increased aggression, and strengthen systems to target Russia's growing threats to the United States and Western world.

If China's Belt and Road succeeds along with Russia's Eurasian Economic Union, expect the US's global influence to continue to fade away.

He said the proposed plan sought to tackle areas of a Middle East conflict that previous U.S. administrations failed to resolve.

Does that mean more money for Israel?

Better supporting an ally and the only democracy in the ME than funding overseas abortions

"If you don't fund the State Department fully, then I need to buy more ammunition ultimately," - Gen. Mattis

Is Mattis a Dem now? I think I'll take his word over that of the inarticulate moron in the white house.

Yeah, but Mattis is not the President so it really doesn’t matter what the Gen. thinks with all due respect to the General.

Cutting State Department funding just lessens our influence and makes it more difficult to accomplish our goals around the world. You really can't overstate how much of a win that would be for America's enemies.

And foreign aid is a tool used to create policy. Nearly all of it is spent in the US on services that the other country receives from Americans. It's money we spend to get what we want.

I don't think Trump gets any of this which is why he has accomplished so little on the world stage.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

President Trump likes to be petty for places he thinks aren't of any help to the USA and has few US interests. Everyone wants the US out of their business, until it comes to foreign aid. Then they want it with no strings. Businessmen don't think that way.

Israel is a corrupt state, guilty of repeatedly breaking international laws.

The continued support by the US sends the message out to Palestinian people that they are worthless.

Good on you for finally conceding Donny is an inarticulate moron. That being said, you missed my entire point; Certain posters are under the impression that paying for diplomacy is a waste, but that actual subject matter expert disagree. So, why would one side with the inarticulate moron over the actual experts?

Abortion in America is legal.

"Israel’s abortion law now among world’s most liberal

I never said, it was illegal, I said, supporting IDF is better than going to a foreign country that will use it for abortion purposes.

Seems fair since he also withheld aid to the Palestinians and because Netanyahu no longer believes in any peace process.

Really? I disagree.

American foreign aid is only $50 billion, 1% of the budget.

As usual, liberals THINK $50 billion is nothing. Makes sense why they think we can afford Universal healthcare, liberals and math are like oil and water.

and 1’s and zero’s as well.

Administrations have the right to choose their priorities. Trump gave a huge tax cut to the upper class, that is going to cost $1T. People have been complaining about where that money is going to come from, and Trump has found somewhere to recover it. Now, whether that policy overall is a good one or not is up for debate. Personally I don't think it's a good one, as America's actions over the years have brought a lot of hostile attitudes towards them, and offsetting that with some good will through foreign aid would seem like a good idea to me.

But that's the prerogative of an administration. Voters should decide whether they want to continue that path when the next election comes around.

America is already paying astronomical sums for its private healthcare which does not cover everyone. A universal healthcare, not to be confused with a single payer, would reduce the cost of healthcare and provide it for all.

American would already have universal healthcare had the left not ostracized Ralph Nader. I voted for him but party (idiot) politics rules the day.

In the 2006 documentary An Unreasonable Man, Nader describes how he was unable to get the views of his public interest groups heard in Washington, even by the Clinton Administration. Nader cites this as one of the primary reasons that he decided to actively run in the 2000 election as candidate of the Green Party, which had been formed in the wake of his 1996 campaign.

Can’t blame the right on this when even the left are bought off.

Somebody has to pay for the GOP tax cuts - and, as usual, that somebody is the youth and the poor, both domestic and foreign. Maybe toss in some government-financed weapons sales to even further gnaw away at the economic disaster Republicans have created.

It's a $4.5 Trillion budget that's $1.1 Trillion in deficit

He wants to cut mere $17 million federal aid to the Special Olympics; yet wants to give $20 million to the Jack Nicklaus golf foundation

Netanyahu stated, to the outrage of some of his own people, Israel is only for the Jews. What kind of peace process can be built from that stance?

As if Hamas would want to share Israel with the Jews if the roles were reversed, come on. Lol

The second richest guy on the planet who's giving away his wealth to noble and worthwhile causes.

Good for Gates.

America is already paying astronomical sums for its private healthcare which does not cover everyone. A universal healthcare, not to be confused with a single payer, would reduce the cost of healthcare and provide it for all.

No, it would not.

This type of healthcare system often results in long wait times for patients, and not everyone will receive the type of care that they need. Since this type of system is run by the government, there can be a lot of red tape and bureaucracy that can result in poor care, especially if the country is already poor and doesn’t have a lot of revenue to spend on the care of its citizens.

Lead to a Socialist State

The presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has been criticized that his universal healthcare plan is a far-fetched dream. To make it happen, he admitted that he would have to increase taxes on every citizen, which could plunge the United States into a socialist state, where the government controls the distribution of goods and services. The United States is currently practicing a free market system, where market forces determine the availability and cost of healthcare services, not the federal government. The introduction of universal healthcare would lead to a great distortion in the economy. It could be the first step towards the government controlling other aspects of the economy.

Universal healthcare will reduce the amount of money doctors can make, thereby reducing the attraction of the profession. This could create a shortage of doctors in the long run. Those with higher incomes may complain that their money is going to pay for the healthcare of other citizens when it should be going to pay for their own care.

Medical Abuse Leads to Rationing

People may abuse the system and seek care for conditions which don’t require a visit to the hospital, and these people can tax the system and cause unnecessary burdens on the system.

Adopting universal healthcare in the United States could lead to rationing of medical services, as seen in countries like New Zealand, Australia, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan. These countries that practice universal healthcare ration services through methods such as budgeting, controlled distribution, service restriction, and price setting.

No thank you and No way! I’m happy with my private plan. This will bankrupt and destroy the nation.

BTW I'm not a liberal or conservative but you're an American with only a two party view on the world.

No, I have multiple opinions, but in a real world reality I believe in conservatism libertarian on some issues that deeply believes in freedom and less government intrusion, the rest for me is just......ahem....

It seems the Republicans must really hate the poor, and not just in developing nations.

Looks like they're also proposing cutting early education for low income students, special education, mental health aimed a school-age children, aides for children with disabilities, library services on reservations, etc. Library services on reservations receive less than half the funding that non-reservation libraries receive. All of these cuts add up to a total of $7 billion from education. These services that they're attacking have (up until now) been money well spent - because they return several dollars in economic benefits for every dollar spent. And, it's also cheaper to fund education for vulnerable populations early in life, than spending money on prisons later.

Incidentally, Betsy DeVos and her bro, Erik - I believe they own a sizeable amount of stock in the private prison business.

What does health care in America have to do with cutting foreign aid?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. Congress rejected President Donald Trump's proposed cuts to diplomacy and foreign aid budgets as dangerous to national security

Pffft! Not building the wall is dangerous to national security.

It seems the Republicans must really hate the poor, and not just in developing nations.

California is the largest State and they have thousands of poor and homeless and it’s the most liberal State, so how is the largest State in the Union doing when it comes to the homeless, NYC and Washington State aren’t that much better, so I guess one can say, the evil most richest people (liberals) hate the poor and the politicians overseeing this are all....wait for it....Democrats.

Racists!

Looks like they're also proposing cutting early education for low income students, special education,

What are they learning, a lot of them can’t read or write, so again, what are the teachers doing and why should we put more money into the public school system when they can’t even do the basics like....teach?

What a load of stinking garbage!

Of those black and Hispanic students who do manage to earn a diploma, a large percentage are functionally illiterate. Black high-school graduates perform, on average, at a level that is four academic years below that of their white counterparts. Of all graduates in the class of 2011, only 11% of blacks and 15% of Hispanics were proficient in math, as compared to 42% of whites. Similarly, just 13% of blacks and 4% of Hispanics were proficient in reading, versus 40% of whites.

But yes, Democrats they really care (not)

I think Sanders is proposing a "single payer" healthcare and not a "universal healthcare".

Even worse.
