More low-context fearmongering drivel from the mainstream media. How many are asymptomatic, mildly ill or seriously ill? How many tests, and what’s the proportion of positive results to tests taken?

”Articles” like this only stoke fear and add nothing of value.

But that’s the whole idea.

Total global coronavirus cases surpassed 14 million on Friday, according to a Reuters tally, marking another milestone in the spread of the disease that has killed nearly 600,000 people in seven months.

Data showing how nasty this pandemic is and continues to be. Data that should make individuals more aware of its spread and take responsibility for themselves and their families.

No doubt some will read articles like this and continue to deny there's a pandemic, while some may panic. My sense is the majority will respond somewhere between those poles.

Those who want to deny the pandemic can find any number of media outlets supporting their beliefs, as can those fearing the worst. As can those who just want reliable, current information to use to make decisions for themselves.

WHO reports record daily increase in global coronavirus cases for second day in a row

WHO should study Vietnam and implement Vietnam's experience in all other countries.

Vietnam, a communist country with 100 million population has 383 cases of Covid-19 and zero deaths!!!!

Possibly, but you’re assuming they’re telling the truth. Communist governments have a pretty poor relationship with the truth. Democratic governments are struggling with it these days, too.

Even in the cases that people are asymptomatic it is important to know they are infected because they can pass it to people who will not be asymptomatic and could die. I don't see the point in crying out at the media when the pandemic IS killing people and those who are asymptomatic are lucky enough to not get overly sick while passing the virus on to YOUR loved ones without even knowing it themselves.

The World Health Organization reported a record increase in global coronavirus cases for the second day in a row, with the total rising by 259,848 in 24 hours.

The pandemic is not really global as situations vary considerably across countries and regions. For instance, Europe, once hot spot seem to have been over the hill both in terms of cases and death tolls.

The biggest increases reported on Saturday were from the United States, Brazil, India and South Africa, according to a daily report.

I'm sure we'll see a tweet later from our Stable Genius President bragging that the "US is leading the world again"...

Of course he'll include a plug for Goya beans....

Thousands of health workers have died as a result of being on the front lines treating Covid-19 sufferers. A minimum 600,000 deaths worldwide, certainly many more. Millions more have been sick and don't know what the long-term effects will be on their bodies. Emergency departments overrun. Mass graves being dug. People living in fear that they or their vulnerable loved ones might contract this disease and die.

But you know what the great thing is about being a Covid-19 denier? You don't have to believe any of it. You can say it's all an exaggeration. You can say time and time again that it's no worse than the flu. You can blame Bill Gates or George Soros. You can say it's all part of a multi-Government worldwide plot, in conjunction with the worldwide liberal/MSM/Fake News media, to control, microchip and/or kill us.

Why? You don't even have to explain that.

As if anyone still believes what the WHO says

Who's denying COVID-19 exists? Some people might be, but not me. What I'm questioning is the information we're getting about it, and not getting, from people and organisations who stand to benefit from the fear and confusion:

media (they love a good disaster or epidemic or whatever at any time, as it gives them something to do and be excessively dramatic about. It also, like in this case, it gives their advertisers in the pharmaceutical industry more eyeballs for their ads and sponsored articles/PR)

pharmaceutical companies and the individuals who own large stakes in them, who stand to make a motza if their vaccine is released, ready or not. Of course, not all of them are going to create a vaccine, but enough of the big ones will, and thanks to immunity laws, won't have to be accountable if their vaccine fails/is harmful to recipients.

https://www.policymed.com/2011/03/supreme-court-rules-in-favor-of-protecting-vaccine-makers-from-state-lawsuits.html

This is not to say I'm against the principle of vaccines, but they need to be safe and their makers need to be subject to public liability like every other manufacturer.

governments, who get the power kick out of ordering people around and blaming everyone but themselves for screw-ups, and not having to be accountable for their misinformation/disinformation. Daniel Andrews and the CCP are great examples of this, but the rot extends a lot further.

A lot of people are easily scared, some for good reason if they're in a high-risk group, and some just cling to the appeal to authority without questioning the interests that the authorities might have that guide the decisions they make.

The WHO reported 71,484 new cases in the United States...

Does anyone have any doubt that if we saw such massive failure of leadership, ineffectiveness, and gross incompetence, that the host of the reality TV show "The Apprentice" would have said very clearly; "You're fired"?

Well Mr President, you'll be hearing those words loud and clear from the American people on Nov 3rd...

I think you watch too much Fox News...Cuomo was following CDC issued guidance - and his leadership helped NY bend the curve down. How's that curve doing in Texas and Florida now?

For one, I watch very little Fox News, but you can go on believing whatever you like that fits your narrative.

And so what if Cuomo followed CDC guidance? That just demonstrates that the CDC was wrong, too, and none of them should have been let off the hook. Their decisions contributed directly to the high death count early on.

I'm not arguing against testing, so please don't misrepresent what I'm saying. I'm highlighting that lightweight articles like the one above don't provide much context to the numbers they quote, so taking them at face value provides a distorted view of reality. It's the same as the daily counts in Tokyo that JT publishes. You need to go into the stats and analyse them for yourself for them to have much meaning at all.

And people who are at risk need to take some responsibility for their own health (or their primary caregivers should, if they can't do so themselves). Locking down whole countries or regions for a virus that's dangerous to some but not everyone is having disastrous effects on society aside from the economic impact.

You deny the seriousness of it. That's your mistake. In my opinion.

Daniel Andrews and the CCP are great examples of this, but the rot extends a lot further.

The problem with this whole "Chairman Dan" scenario is that there's not a single government in Australia, State or Federal, that would deal with a Victorian-type situation any differently if they had to handle an outbreak in their own States or Territories. All are committed to the lockdown as the primary effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Three Labor State Governments, three Liberal/National State Governments, two Labor Territories and most importantly of all, the conservative Federal Liberal Government (which has been very supportive of Andrews in its public statements). And for most of the country, lockdowns are what's worked, so far at least. Only in Vic and to a lesser extent NSW has the virus surged again, so far anyway. These attempts to smear Andrews as though he were were some kind of Socialist outlier, in league with China and far apart from the rest of the Australian body politic, don't wash. None of this, by the way, is to deny his Government's culpability in causing this latest outbreak by hiring incompetent security firms to oversee Victoria's quarantine hotels.

Worldwide, the figures are the figures. Almost certainly, they're understated, not overstated and in the absence of a better alternative, full or partial lockdown is the only measure that's been shown to work. Sometimes, fear of a threat is appropriate, and an acceptance of the temporary loss of some freedoms in order to combat that threat is the only practical response. For most liberal democracies, including Australia, to imply that any loss of freedom could become permanent is itself fearmongering.

Like everyone else, I just want to see this pandemic fade away and disappear or be beaten to a standstill. I don't think insinuations that the Media or Big Pharma or Government are conspiring or taking advantage in order to exaggerate the threat are in any way useful as a means to achieve that.

BigYen,

I get where you're coming from, and I'm sure your intentions are good. But maybe you have a brighter view of humanity in general than I do.

I think most people on the whole are good, and everyone makes mistakes.

But there are some people who are just bad. We talk about sociopaths and psychopaths in our midst all the time - those horrible bosses and manipulative people we encounter at our level of existence. History shows that they reach positions of influence and are not beyond killing, deceiving, enslaving and imprisoning other people to get what they want. To deny they such people have reached the pinnacles of power in our society is a bit naive, sorry to say.

Just because we live in democracies, that doesn't mean they haven't found their way into important positions that influence our daily lives. To be sure, we have checks and balances that were put in place for that very reason, but those measures have been eroded or just ignored over time and we're now facing the consequences of that - and not just with COVID-19.

I'm open to thinking that what we're being told about COVID-19 is the truth, but at the moment I'm finding it very hard to take the offical narrative at face value.

I can't believe that there are people out there that would rather believe that this is a huge conspiracy where all the doctors, nurses, health care officials, WHO officials, CDC officials, scientists, and researchers are fabricating the severity of this disease, than to believe that this disease actually exists. I guess people will continue to deny it, until it hits them, or someone they know personally.
