People who join these anti Chinese activities should always use vpn to hide their physical location.

It is obvious China will do anything to prevent this type of meeting. It is an evil state and must be treated with great vigilance and suspicion!!! People must learn to protect themselves...

During the US/USSR cold war, In US there were Communist witch hunts, why aren't there any Chinese witch hunts? It is no different from USSR!!! The playbook is the same....

They've shot themselves in the foot with this one with the amount of bad P.R they have received.

Why shut down entire meetings? Why not just make those meetings unavailable in China only and let them continue elsewhere?

Wow! As bad as the US can be, it has never quashed other countries' right to free speech. US flag burnings are the norm overseas without being interfered with by the US government!

Another ass licker of China

Never trusted Zoom, never will. There are better options out there. Coincidentally, Zoom is the flakiest with reliability when used in China (from my own personal experience, Shanghai to Hong Kong), keeps dropping out, just assume the CCP is listening in. Ever wondered why Zoom is not encrypted end to end?

Time to use something else.

Chinese government sucks.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

ZOOM should be shut down due to National security risks.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

It's not only Zoom but also many other profit-making businesses and entities who have been largely compromised on Beijing's "request". Perhaps, we will soon see "one company, two systems" emerging :P

Any tech company that know tows to the CCP dictatorship, the owner and senior management should be required to answer in a public meeting or government committee broadcast live for their actions to each and every government, organisation and individual affected, and pay heavy compensation and fines. Hit their profits, then they will take note.

Ruddy predictive text, should be kowtows.

I say boycott Zoom, Tik Tok, and all Chinese products. That’s the only way to beat this evil regime. China is a threat to global peace and security.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Boycott Zoom, and every other company that poses a security risk. Treat them like Huwawei.

I know China is a huge market, but if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Surely we can find another platform.

Eric Yuan is going to accommodate the Chinese government as much as possible US citizenship or not. Like the Jewish members of the US Congress, he is not going to pick a side but go for the win win situation.

This is extremely problematic to say the LEAST!

This company needs to be seriously inspected & if found kowtowing to China, then it needs to be potentially shut down.

We really need t stop feeding the monster that is China, its pay now or pay a hell of a LOT more later!!!!

@The Avenger

I know China is a huge market, but if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Surely we can find another platform.

This is a false dilemma. Obviously there are more than just two options.

You guys act as if everything in the world has to be morally right, even business. Business is exactly that - business.

Yes, it's a huge market and thus, most companies will compromise if it lets them gain access to that market. Google tried - but gave up. Facebook tried, but gave up.

The world isn't this fluffy, candy coated happy place where everything is morally perfect. They had ties with China? Whoopdy Doo!

As long as the data isn't being shared, what does it matter? You use it to have conference calls. If said calls work better than on other services, and your data is safe, does it really matter who they're working with?

Tik Tok is literally a Chinese owned company and product, yet everyone is shaking their butts and displaying their awful dance moves on it without much care. Yet you guys want to throw tantrums about this?

The California-based firm

Zoom said on Friday it was notified of the events and asked to take action by the Chinese government in May and early June.

With friends like these who needs enemies?

For Americans, I can understand how your videos going to China would be scary.

For the rest of the world it's either America who is watching us, or China. Different sides of the same coin. Why should we care that it's China over the US?

China seems to get their hooks into other countries and individuals pretty easily and in multiple ways. It was revealed yesterday that Canada's foreign minister has an outstanding $1.2 million debt to a Chinese bank and Canada's governing party knew about it 5 years ago and still made him foreign minister. Talk about being compromised and it could explain a lot of why Canada has been quiet about the 2 Canadians "kidnapped" by China.

Zoom's behavior is only the beginning. for China's economy is only beginning to be one of the super economes now (the US is surely among the few super economies).it is easy to see China's momentum is still at the teenage stage given its huge population and land mass. then we should know what next say in 5-10 years.politically right is not always economically right.this kind of dillemma is only to rise.

Munny matters mor din friidum- Corporate analysts.

This is why if corporations in the US were able to take over the US government, there would be no constitutional rights, human rights, etc. Some US politicians are so deep in bed with big business, this is exactly what will happen.

Businessmen do not make great politicians, especially if they see it as a means to enrich themselves and their cronies (COUGH).

We should care ‘very much’ if it is the murderous and lying CCP in control!

We should care ‘very much’ if it is the murderous and lying CCP in control!

Why? How are they different from the American government?

I'm too old for the stupidity of TikTok but as I have said in a previously mod-deleted post, I am forced to use Zoom within my organization. ANY company that kowtows to Communist dictators (Chinese, North Korean, and to a certain extent, Russia) is bad for business and freedom in my book. For parity's sake, I also hate Apple, Facebook, and other companies that side with China when the going gets rough for them profit-wise.
