Hate crimes are real and he preyed on the plight of African Americans and LGBT. Say what you want about Manafort, be he wasn’t possibly inciting race and gender equality riots. He wasn’t preying on everyday plights of everyday people. He’s convicted of bank and tax fraud charges.

Currently, America is in a huge race and gender divide and the smallest thing can set off entire riots. Also, he did that simply to have more leverage over his pay negotiations.

Depends on the judge. Based on the degree in which politics is infused within the American justice system, I bet Smollett gets community service and no jail time at all.

Smollett falsely accused White people as a whole for a race motivated assault. That is a hate crime. It’s not a small matter that he has not been indicted for a hate crime. This fact is a clear example of the double standard used in the American justice system in which race determines which crimes a person is typically prosecuted for.

Cry wolf and others may suffer for it in the future by not being believed.

There is already too much hate in the world without faking it to improve a carer.

When this story first broke, the media breathlessly emphasized the “attackers” were two white males wearing “MAGA hats” and shouting “This is MAGA country!”

Now, the same media is reporting Smollett described his "attackers" as only "two men" and the "MAGA" trope completely vanished.

Smollett arranged his own attack. He was the one who sent a threatening letter to the studio. The letter that contained some white powder for, you know, special effect. When that didn't get him the recognition that he believed he deserved, he scripted, and arranged, a physical attack upon himself, blamed some non-existent white people, and tossed in the non-existent MAGA hat as a prop, because he knew that would trigger the proper feelings in the usual suspects.

Yeah it’s pretty despicable if he did it.
