"Millions of Texans remained paralyzed by power and water outages"
"U.S. Senator Ted Cruz flew -- for a family holiday jaunt to the Mexican resort city of Cancun"
All you need to know, right there. 2021's version of "let them eat cake".

Just a few of the play-on-words nick names on Twitter this AM
“Flying Ted”
”Fled Cruz”
Even for Ted, throwing his kids under the bus and asking for a police escort on arrival (presumably to ward off the protesters) during an environmental crisis is a new level of craven.
not to mention that there are double-digit examples of Raphael criticizing other politicians for not being sufficiently diligent at their jobs.

Remember, this is the same excuse of a man who tweeted and made fun of the problems California experienced not long ago - lack of electricity in a modern civilization. Boy, that tweet didn't age well.
Photos of him boarding the plane were all over the internet.
Rafael Eduardo Cruz is a shameless, self-serving, spineless sycophant. No wonder his daughter repelled from his kisses during his failed election for Rep presidential candidate. I have no doubt that if the fat guy were to make nasty or lurid comments about his daughter, he'd kick up a fuss for two minutes and then bow down to the fat guy again. How can you expect a guy to be loyal to his voters when he can't even be loyal to his own family.

I think this makes it more rather than less likely that he will run for president in 24 because while voters on the national level may have short memories, the citizens of the great state of Texas are unlikely to for get that when the going got tough, Ted went on a foreign vacation. He is unlikely to win re-election
Call it Cancuncel culture.
Harry_Gatto
Some family holiday jaunt don't you think? Perhaps just a little bit of an hysteric overreaction?
theFu
Bad optics. If the trip was planned weeks ago, it is very different than if it was a last minute thing. Regardless, any vacation in times of covid has bad optics.
This is definitely the time of year to visit Cancun. People who go in summer are foolish.
stormcrow
Sen. Cruz during the snowstorm (like a chicken): "Buk-buk-buk CANCUN!!!"
Sen. Cruz after being spotted in Cancun: "Buk-buk-buk MY JOB!"

Cruz is among the least credible of all politicians at any level. He’s changed his stories on so many issues so many times that anyone with a modicum of reasoning skills has long ago stopped trusting him. But like Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell, Cruz knows he’s got huge corporations supporting him financially and a Republican audience willing to accept his ‘intentional misinformations so they can keep getting tax breaks.
I think it’s true Cruz will come back to Texas soon. His all Republican run state backed by the big oil corporations who fund the politicians are currently in trouble with the millions who hold them responsible for the failures of energy systems throughout the state. The R’s are mounting an ‘it’s the green deal that’s the problem’ deflection which is being pushed by Fox and other right wing media.
But it’s becoming clear that the failures stem from Texan energy groups predatory practices and big oil itself. And especially politicians like Cruz.

Just in - Ted Cruz blames his trip to Cancun on the Green New Deal and AOC...
"This is what happens when radical leftist environmentalists are in power - they force you to leave your constituents who are suffering in the cold and escape to a warm resort"....
ulysses
An outright lie because there are texts from ted's wife inviting neighbors to join them on a jaunt, to escape the cold.
Difficult to figure who is more rotten, donald or ted, they compete in debasing themslves.
Anyone surprised that ted tried to blame it on his daughters, that he has zero morals is living in an alternate universe!!!
Wolfpack
Figures we would get a story on this PR debacle for a conservative. Nothing on Cuomo’s cover-up of his death sentence for 15,000 elderly nursing home residents.
Jimizo
Lol.

It's especially funny when you couple it with all the people reminding Flyin' Ted of that time he blamed the fire-caused blackouts in California on 'Socialism'...and then his entire state is freezing to death because those anti-socialist Texans decided to cut their own power grid off from the rest of the country to avoid federal regulations.
Welp. They got what they voted for. I struggle to feel bad. And the image of their elected officials fleeing to warmer climes is just the cherry on top.
egads man!
What are his family's priorities when they say they want to take a vacation during a pandemic? Wouldn't they have to self-isolate at their destination and when they come back?
SuperLib
Heh It's just so arrogant. It's like he's not even trying. The only way a man in this situation could release a statement like that is if 1) he thinks people are stupid or 2) he has no problem slapping his own base in the face with an obvious lie.
I say it's both.

No, Senate is on a one week break that was decided months ago, when the Congressional calendar was written up, but that won't of course stop you from inventing things to rant about.
NOMINATION
OK, so this is you excusing Ted Cruz for being on holiday instead of working in a state of emergency. If he MUST cut his holiday short to tend to the people of his State's needs, aren't the millions of people out of work in need of money also important? No, I guess.
Jsapc
No, that was me correcting you when you implied Senate deliberately took a break right after the impeachment. But that won't of course stop you from making further bad faith arguments.
Chico3
If this wasn't bad enough, there were reports that he was on the waiting list for an upgrade on the return flight while his family stay in coach. However, he didn't get the upgrade.
sunfunbun
One flew over the Cuckcruz Nest.
Toasted Heretic
Cruz control?
Hope he gets a cold welcome.
starpunk
Dereliction of duty. IMPEACH HIM!
u_s__reamer
The bogus excuse of "wanting to be a good dad..." just doesn't fly (to Cancun or anywhere else) when the craven hypocrite, Cruz, is prepared to throw his own daughter under the bus in an unconvincing attempt to wriggle out of his gross neglect of duty to his duped constituents who, imho, should have known better than to place their welfare into the hands of that bearded mountebank. Another lesson for the ages, but will they ever learn?
starpunk
Maybe he was scared of being arrested. Somebody in Cancun should've served Ted Cruz a tequila drink with worms from an outhouse in it so he could get Montezuma's Revenge.
starpunk
And now he's putting the rap on his spoiled little rich daughters, saying they 'wanted to vacation with some friends'. Some 'good dad' and representative of the public HE turned out to be!
Toasted Heretic
Father Ted is great comedy, to be sure.
starpunk
Ain't so funny that he abandons his public to freeze and suffer and now he wants to shrug it off and blame his spoiled squealing rich daughter brats for his irresponsibility, negligence and stupidity.
Bad senator.
Bad dad.
Bad excuse of a person.
Bad BS-er.
Absolutely repulsive, man.
