A Russian friend of mine said the conflict would be over in a matter of days when Russia's military got involved all those years ago. I think he also used to say something about ragtags in used pickup trucks beating the Americans or something? I guess those pickups really are strong.

Quote: Iranian General Mohammad Baqeri, whose government backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, said Tehran and Damascus would respect the U.N. resolution. But the Iranian military chief of staff also said the truce did not cover parts of the Damascus suburbs "held by the terrorists", the Tasnim news agency said.

Right, hahaha, so that's the end of that then.

And quote: "In Ankara, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said the U.N. resolution would not affect Turkey's offensive against Kurdish fighters in Syria's Kurdish-held Afrin region."

Ah, right, so no ceasefire there either.

Nandakandamanda, why didn't you include the American bombing that killed 29 civilians in Syria in your list of things that show the ceasefire to be nothing but a public relations show?

Oh, right, because it would have undermined the whole public relations show purpose, demonizing the democratically elected governments of Syria, Iran, and Russia as they fight terrorists who are supported by the US.

He must feel an abject fool by now!

Especially as Moscow just sent their most advanced flying Lada's to better target hospitals, schools and residential areas.

This war is barbaric.

Gas bombs were dropped on Ghouta last night, according to Al Jazeera. Al Arabiya is more specific, claiming chlorine.

As other readers of my posts will know, I am not into the blame game. I am interested in the facts, and if I blame anyone, it is the stupidity of the human condition, our collective human condition. I await the arrival of genuine people who can help sort out the mess, not those point-scorers who pile in on one side or the other even as children die.

Your friend is a private citizen I suppose, he is entitled to his opinion. He was too optimistic, so what? I remember a certain US president with his "Mission accomplished" circus show, it happened in 2003. Tell us about how successful the mighty Western coalition was "all those years ago".

@Madverts

You can back this claims with facts of Russian planes deliberately targeting hospitals and schools? I mean FACTS, not the usual noise from terrorebels' propaganda channels?
