Notice there is no mention of the United States.

This was probably covered in the Helsinki "summit" - when Putin told Trump how he would handle things - and Trump said "Okay boss".

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told reporters there would not now be an offensive.

That's a mighty big 'trust me'. And if there is blood spilled (maybe more barrel bombs dropped on schools, possibly more gas attacks) the Putin press and their lesser outlets throughout the globe will use their pre-made videos to show it was the other-guys who did it. And the other-guys are just as bad, they'll probably do the same.

@burningbush Well done Vlad,

All sides fighting in Syria should go back to their home countries. Each is ignoring the needs of its citizens, spending their citizen's tax money to further enhance the power and wealth of their respective .01%, while keeping the world hooked on oil and gas.

With France shooting down a high tech Russian plane and Israel bombing areas next to the Russian bases, and al-nusa and white helmets about to do a fake chemical attack, and USA and British warships increasing...turn off your tv, drink a nice bottle red wine and go to bed early.

Posts like the above should taken down if proven factually incorrect. Same goes for all posts that contain blatant lies. Registering opinions is one thing, but clear distortions of truth and fake news should never be permitted. But it's your site, JT.

Syria's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, speaking earlier on Monday, said the Assad government was determined to drive the Nusra Front, which he described as a terrorist organisation, from Idlib.

So Assad won't be ruling over Idlib like he wants - it's like these decisions are made without Assad in the room. Poor Assad

Turkey won this - they got Russia and more importantly Assad to back down. Turkey gets to keep their occupied Syrian land

Just ahead of Assad's oncoming assault, Turkey was already reinforcing military and fortifying their Syrian land. It would've been the rebels with Turkey vs. Assad with Russia's help

Putin told a joint news conference with Erdogan: "We agreed that by Oct 15 (we will) create along the contact line between the armed opposition and government troops a demilitarised zone of a depth of 15-20 km, with the withdrawal from there of radically-minded rebels, including al-Nusra."

Neither Putin not Erdogan explained how they planned to differentiate "radically-minded" rebels from other anti-Assad groups. It was also not immediately clear how much of the city of Idlib fell within the zone.

So only the demilitarized zone of 15-20km, not the whole land of Idlib
