Since the Republicans seems to want to die on this hill, I say let them.

Based on today’s SCOTUS decision, this lawsuit is a lost cause. And polls are showing that a majority of Americans support the administration’s actions to stop the illegal influx.

Trump:"Those people are animals!"

Oh, you mean that debunked media lie.

Based on today’s SCOTUS decision, this lawsuit is a lost cause.

The conservative mindset: justice is decided by team affiliation, not principle.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

it was "motivated by animus and a desire to harm"

Unfortunately, SCOTUS just ruled in the travel ban case that motivation doesn't matter.

Still, Trump's got an unsolvable problem: his promise to lock 'em all up and prosecute them is impossible even given massive expansion of detention facilities on military land. Families should be released and monitored as they wait their day in court, which is what the Boarder Patrol is now doing out of necessity.

We can continue to watch the GOP only bills go down in flames, or we can vote on the bipartisan bills and have immigration reform.

Not much more to say than that.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

So Trump couldn’t just fix this with executive order as we said to begin with? This requires legislation which Dems are unwilling to do. So as I anticipated they go with “lawsuit” as their response.

This requires legislation which Dems are unwilling to do.

The 'Dems' worked with the GOP to create a biparsitan immigration plan. The GOP leadership refuses to vote on that. Any unwillingness is with the GOP leadership. You can try and reframe reality to pretend that the Democratic party is the bottleneck, but reality shows otherwise.

Let's make a deal that

closes the border to illegal immigrants,

helps asylum seekers entering at border crossings,

keeps asylum families together,

provides a path to citizenship for children brought to the USA before age 13,

allows farm workers to enter and leave with the seasonal work, so they can leave their families back home, but travel to see them multiple times a year for months,

allows prosecution for anyone crossing the borders NOT at official border crossings,

doesn't provide amnesty to economic immigrations in the USA illegally,

and

we need an amendment to the US Constitution to require at least 1 parent to be in the USA legally to convey citizenship to a child born in the USA.

Simple.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The Democrats never had any intentions on permanently ceiling the border, their version of what they called bipartisan is to continue the process of allowing open borders, it doesn’t address the issue of permanently closing all the loopholes, it doesn’t address a complete into chain migration or the ending of the visa lottery program and it doesn’t address the funding and emding sanctuary cities.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Democrats would never agree to ending the diversity lottery system, and they will never agree to a merit based system.

We need more border patrol agents and more tech like drones. A wall isn’t the answer.

Chain migration isn’t what you think it is, but I can’t educate you on everything.

Democrats are the minority party yet are unwilling to concede anything. Like this example from the article:

On Monday, Democratic Senator Dick Durbin told reporters:"Eliminating the Flores agreement removes humanitarian standards on the treatment of the children ... we are not going to water that down."

provides a path to citizenship for children brought to the USA before age 13,

Problem is, Tea party Repubs will never agree to that.

Probably the one and only time I will agree with you. But, you have to have a look at Trump's record with his treatment of blacks, his comments about people from SH countries ......and so on.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why are Republicans against chain migration? Mrs Trump III has gotten green cards for her parents, as well as her sister. Seems like it works fine for some.

Republicans negotiating with other Republicans and leaving Democrats out of the loop isn't a compromise. That is lunacy.

Just as the Repub's did under Obama's watch. What goes around, comes around.

Illegal immigrants are illegal immigrants. They must be sent back. Learn from the Japanese immigration control policy if U.S. economy gets in trouble in short of menial labor. Let them enter U.S. with time limitations and they have to return to their countries when the period of time expires. I do not have any qualm about what Trump does. He is only turning U.S. to the right a little bit too much in a hurry which was swung too much to the left by Obama.

"People who enter the United States without our permission, are illegal aliens. And illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who enter the U.S. legally." *

FAKE FAKE this is a Trump impersonator, Trump would never say such a thing , he loves Mexicans

move along nothing to see here.

They are not immigrants. Immigrants apply for status, wait, and enter when granted it. Anyone else is illegal.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

first of all, they are not immigrants they are illegal aliens. secondly, suing on behalf of whom? The US courts are not for non-citizens. Thirdly, there is a proper process to apply for visas, you should not be rewarded for skirting it. Lastly, Dems should spend more time representing american citizens not illegals who can not vote.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I agree with posters on "both sides of the fence" here.

@Crazy - Agreed. Trump's family has engaged in undeniable "chain migration" yet he wants to deny this to others. Typical elitist attitude. Trump also exploited working visas for his restaurants and did not hire local folks. He is hypocritical on this issue.

@Schopenhauer and Yuko and Dango as well - Agree with you also. There is a constant effort to blur the lines (or eliminate the difference) between legal and illegal immigrants. Dango your point is one I have (and I am a liberal). There is plenty of poverty in the neglected inner cities in the U.S. The resources should be spent and used there.

This is all getting ugly faster and faster and the hot summer is coming. I am liberal, not progressive. For a glimpse into the future, have a read of the article below. The article is interesting but for a true glimpse into what hatred is, read the comments. The hatred is being spewed by both left and right.

Now would be a great time for AG Sessions to take advantage of this situation by ordering DNA tests be taken on all adults who are now being held with "the children". If there are any mismatches, automatically deny their asylum request and instead charge them with child trafficking.

Perhaps they should be branded as well.

Meanwhile, the madness continues as the caged and abused children are forced to recite the pledge of allegiance.

Shame on America. Shame on those who allowed this fascism to occur.

Lots of interesting ideas here. Another one would be to not allow asylum claims at the border. The US has an embassy in Mexico City, plus NINE other consulates scattered throughout Mexico. ALL of them are closer to central America than the border, thus ALL are easier to reach. They all will process asylum claims, none will separate children from parents. There is only ONE reason I can see for people to struggle all the way to the border, and then claim asylum. That is, obviously, that they have no intention to actually seek asylum, but instead are just economic migrants taking advantage of the system.

Also, eventually, a guest worker program could be helpful for seasonal industries that need labor. This would protect the workers' rights and also ensure security of the border area.

Probably the one and only time I will agree with you. But, you have to have a look at Trump's record with his treatment of blacks, his comments about people from SH countries ......and so on.

How did he treat Blacks bad? And please don't go back about a time in NY that was infested with junkies, mafia and drug dealers. What was it that he did that was of recent bad and how did he discriminate Blacks?

Meanwhile, the madness continues as the caged and abused children are forced to recite the pledge of allegiance.

Why do liberals keep peddling these falsehoods? Meanwhile, the left is hounding people from DHS and getting in their faces, I predict someone won't take it and someone will get hurt.

Just looking at the candle stick in the background I suddenly thought of:

"Anyone who is Anti-Trump is Anti-Semitic"

I'm waiting for that one to be thrown out into the public sphere anytime soon.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why do liberals keep peddling these falsehoods?

You'd have to ask one. I'm not a liberal. They are almost as bad as conservatives.

The kids are in cages and they are being forced to recite the pledge. You read the article, right?

There's also reports of kids being drugged, cuffed and abused.

http://www.businessinsider.com/migrant-children-forcibly-drugged-abused-in-us-government-detention-2018-6

Will you condemn what your government is doing to the children?

There is a pretty long queue of people suing trump. If start now, expect a 20 year wait.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

provides a path to citizenship for children brought to the USA before age 13,

Problem is, Tea party Repubs will never agree to that.

Which is why it is a "compromise."

I left off stopping the wall. Need the wall only in populated areas, which already have fences. Electronic sensors (heat/seismic/motion) and balloons with sensors are much cheaper.

Also left off that asylum counts go towards the immigration limits for each country.

Compromise.

Missed a sentence in your article.

“But many of the allegations of abuse in the filings go back years.”

plus the lawsuit was filed in April and the “trump policy” started in May 2018.

Democrats are the minority party yet are unwilling to concede anything.

Democrats have agreed to end the diversity visa lottery. They have agreed to merit based legal immigration. They have agreed to resources to secure the border. They have agreed to expanding and strengthening eVerify. They have agreed that any path to immigration puts illegals at the back of the line with no rights in the meantime.

All of these things are in various bipartisan bills, which GOP leadership refuse to vote on. Why? Because they would pass, and the hardliners would revolt.

Blame them for obstruction.

Forgot to quote the first line...

Democrats are the minority party yet are unwilling to concede anything.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lot of talk about illegality. Not so much talk on inhumanity.

The people who hid Anne Frank were breaking the law. The people who killed her were following it.

Following orders, doing your job, or obeying the law isn’t an excuse.

Period.

Bass: How did he treat Blacks bad? And please don't go back about a time in NY

Well there was the time in New York when he was sued for discriminating against blacks.

What's next? Will you ask for proof he's a scammer while telling us his fake university scam isn't allowed in the discussion? Or his stealing charity funds?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People claiming asylum because they simply want a better life. Total BS. If that's actually a legit claim, you'd have 1/2 the people you personally know also wanting to claim asylum in their dream country.

Sorry for those born in a poor country, or to poor parents or who just can't make ends meet. Mexicans are supposed to get a free pass because they share a border with the USA?
