If in fact Esper helped convince Trump NOT to sic US military forces on US citizens, hats off. At least Esper might have done one good thing.

But Esper spent his time under Trump continuing to increase profits for the big war industries, including his 'former' employer Raytheon.

Trump really is a spiteful, ungracious loser.

Trump kinda lost the plot and most of the military vote (especially the Marine Corps) when he forces Mattis out. There could not have been a better person for the position and Trump dropped the ball.

America fired trump loud and clear.

All his petty actions afterwards don’t matter much.

What’s the point so late in his term?

Revenge, pure and simple. To a malignant narcissist like Trump the urge must be overwhelming.

Well, business as usual!

Consider this a blessing Mark - Trump's cabinet and staff that have stayed have all been infected with COVID...

Just ask yourself, would you want to stay inside a known bio-hazard zone?

You escaped - congratulations!

Where is the need for the outgoing leader to fire his defense chief when he himself has just been fired by his people?

Stay cool and quit the Oval Office with whatever dignity left..

Trump's threats to use active duty military forces this summer to suppress street protests

Will Miller, Esper's replacement, go along with Trump if Trump still wants to use the military to attack American citizens? Trump's angry: watch out everyone living in the US. If not the military, maybe Trump will call for one of the thug militias 'standing by' to attack their fellow citizens.

It's a bit like Hitler firing his field marshals from the bunker as WWII was coming to an end. Frustrated and embittered that many of them did not carry out his scorched earth orders.

A U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows called Esper to alert him that Trump would be firing him through Twitter.

That's pretty pathetic. Firing someone through twitter? And he's the Commander in Chief?

I would consider getting fired by Trump a badge of honor. I would also rip him a new one on Twitter.

The General Officer Corps is not going to go along with the deployment of soldiers in American cities because Don is constipated and Melania won't hold his hand.

When Mark "Yesper" said his final "No, Sir!", Trumplethinskin threw a lame-duck tantrum. He won't be the last "Apprentice" to be fired in the WH "reality" show. Time to stock up on popcorn for the inevitable orange meltdown to come during the deadbeat "Bunker Boy's" last days before his termination and eviction.

A cornered animal is dangerous.

Purging through Twitting is Trump's style

Hilarious!

My favorite part: Mark "Yesper" and Trumplethinskin

Absolutely brilliant!
