I would consider getting fired by Trump a badge of honor. I would also rip him a new one on Twitter.

Where is the need for the outgoing leader to fire his defense chief when he himself has just been fired by his people?

What’s the point so late in his term?

Revenge, pure and simple. To a malignant narcissist like Trump the urge must be overwhelming.

America fired trump loud and clear.

All his petty actions afterwards don’t matter much.

Trump kinda lost the plot and most of the military vote (especially the Marine Corps) when he forces Mattis out. There could not have been a better person for the position and Trump dropped the ball.

Trump really is a spiteful, ungracious loser.

If in fact Esper helped convince Trump NOT to sic US military forces on US citizens, hats off. At least Esper might have done one good thing.

But Esper spent his time under Trump continuing to increase profits for the big war industries, including his 'former' employer Raytheon.
