U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday recognized Israel's 1981 annexation of the Golan Heights in an election boost for visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Netanyahu, joining Xi, Erdogan, Kim, Duterte, Putin and others on Trump's list of despots he admires. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2018/03/trump-xi-jinping-dictators/554810/

Could the millions Sheldon Adelson and others gave the Trump election campaign have possibly influenced his decisions regarding Israel? If so, how does that square with GoTrumpers numerous claims Trump was 'too rich to be bought off'.

It will be interesting to learn if Trump's going to develop properties in Israel and if Ivanka will have special privileges selling her brand there like she has in China and Russia.

It is time other nations of the world put sanctions against both the US and Israel. It is also time the US got out from under the heel of Washington and stared to do the job it was established for. At present the US is only there to serve the US. Why does the globe continue to appease the US, why do they allow the US to continue bullying and warmongering?

Should read:

Very much so. However, in addition to that, regarding Golan heights specifically, is the fact that some of Trumps backers are involved with Genie Energy, which is currently working in the Golan heights. And Jared Kushner has close ties to Genie Energy.

I wonder why the article does not mention any of this...

It also has one third of Israel’s water supply.

Something's got to give. 70 years from the Nakba, to the Golan Heights.

Is the US trying to provoke another intifada?

Great move! Love this President more and more.

You're happy for the persecution of Palestinians, the illegal land grab, the apartheid system and use of chemical weapons on them to continue for another 70 years, are you?

For heaven's sake, drop the partisan shtick for just one day and realise what you are buying into.

You think so? You never return the spoils of war. Israel should then give it back and make it easier for the Syrians to attack them, yes, that seems smart and logical.

For heaven's sake, drop the partisan shtick for just one day and realise what you are buying into.

I’m not partisan, I just don’t see the conflict in the same way you do, that’s all.

That land belongs to Palestinian people. Let's make it more relatable with the situation in Ireland, where the land was stolen, the Plantations, the destruction of a language, religion and culture. Was that acceptable?

I’m not partisan, I just don’t see the conflict in the same way you do, that’s all.

Sorry bass. You are the most partisan poster I've ever interracted with. You refuse, point blank, to do some research or educate yourself.

All that inheritance and fancy schools - and this is the best you can do?

70 years of ethnic cleansing and brutality by the Israelis and you won't even acknowledge it.

Stupid and misguided. And I'm guessing Trump consulted no one.

No, it belongs to the Israelis, even the U.N. recognizes this.

You are the most partisan poster I've ever interracted with. You refuse, point blank, to do some research or educate yourself.

Actually, I’m not, the difference is, I don’t follow and bow to liberal thought process or what liberals is right or wrong or immoral, I have a different perspective on many issues, liberals are the ones that refuse to accept alternate points or views, so to them, I come of as partisan.

70 years of ethnic cleansing and brutality by the Israelis and you won't even acknowledge it

The 6 day war, thousands of Jews that were murdered in order to keep them out of their homeland, the radical terrorist acts perpetrated by the grandfather of terrorism, Arafat. The intifadas, the bombing of Jewish cities, the same, you guys won’t acknowledge it.

This is a stupid move. Sober minds on the right recognize this.

You swallowed the lunatic fringe package whole. You are running on emotion rather than logic.

Engage the non-partisan, logical side and tell us the upside of this move.

Lay it out for us.

...or maybe not.

You swallowed the lunatic fringe package whole. You are running on emotion rather than logic.

No, you guys have and you cannot take something that was historically never yours.

Engage the non-partisan, logical side and tell us the upside of this move.

Lay it out for us.

I just did.

@Bass

You didn’t explain why recognizing the Golan Heights at this point in time is a good move. You wrote general stuff about the 6-day war, Arafat and the deaths of Jews.

Why is recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli a good move at this point I’m time? What does it achieve in Trump’s goal of bringing peace to this part of the world?

General comments about Libs and ROFLing are not necessary.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I completely agree, nothing more needs to be said.

It is considered militarily significant for both Syria and Israel, and Israel also considers the territory a “buffer-zone” that contributes to its self-defense.

In addition to its military value, the Golan Heights is also a strategic asset due to its water resources and fertile land.

@Bass,

Agreed.
