@Sh1mon M4sada - good question:

how is the US going to tell if a low-level functionary is a CCP member or not?

The answer is simple, to be a CCP member you need to pay an annual subscription fee.

The payee data has been shared with the US from those within who are like the Wartime French Resistance, "fighting" to remove the oppressor - the CCP. As you can imagine... there's a lot of data, but it's easy to start with those whom are well known.

Jacky Chan (sadly) is on the list... :(

People taking freedom from others should have their own freedom taken in turn..,

Further, so as not to single out China, I would propose all Vietnamese people who are members of the Communist Party of Vietnam (including the President of Vietnam, who is head of the Communists) be banned from entering all democratic nations.

These time for these Commie elites who think they have a right to rule unelected is finished.

This is an excellent move to ban Communists, and I hope all other democracies follow the USA the same way. Proving membership of that murderous, despicable party could prove difficult. However, one could safely assume ALL top level government members (AKA : street thugs) and public servants ARE CCP members. Which means, hopefully, that all Chinese diplomats will be expelled soon from the USA. If some choose to defect to the US, and become American, thats good too.

Communist China is really in a corner now, the wheels are falling off, the economy is tanking, nations do not wish to trade with them, and I cant see how they can survive the next 1-3 years.

how is the US going to tell if a low-level functionary is a CCP member or not?

...implementation, nothing to worry about.

EG, just get all who travel on a Chinese passport to declare he/SHE is not a CCP member before entry to USA. If they lie, then it's grounds for arrest later. It also enables their enemies to dob them in later (divide CCP from ordinary Chinese).

Having said above, I don't know if that would fix anything. Is it to facilitate complete decoupling?

Great idea in theory, but how are they going to enforce it. As someone else mentioned, apart from the obvious officials, how is the US going to tell if a low-level functionary is a CCP member or not? And it's not like CCP members have a reputation for lying about their associations, right?

I support this. Chinese CCP members should not be allowed to travel to all democratic countries. At the end it is criminal organization which denies basic human rights. You don't want to know what their propaganda says about our values.

Most definitely agree. Can’t argue that.

I understand the sentiment, but is that even legal?? As long as CCP is not labeled as a terrorist organization or so, are there any legal grounds to refuse entry? Can Japan for example ban US citizens members of the Republican party from entering Japan?

Great move!

"We're working our way through, under the president's guidance, about how to think about pushing back against the Chinese Communist Party." what total BS, Pompeo is a bigger threat to world peace, Trump is just a puppet to the NEOCON's agenda.

China as a country is being robbed blind by its “ communist leaders” but most Chinese , given the chance, would not change this but just take the place of the current “leaders”. Not a socially correct statement but a very true one.

Ethics and morals are just words in China, granted not only in China, but especially in China. The US decision is the correct one, only hurting their wallets will pain them.

It's not how an elected representative government is supposed to work.

I think you're describing how national politics should work (both side of congress would have to consider the potential damage of their policy) . This is more of an emerging or immediate situation coming from outside USA. By a nation who appears to have no qualms about inflicting damage to US interest.

USA would be deliberately targeted by other nations if it had to 'defer' responses until congresses has had a say. A thief is unloading stuffs in your house, do you ask the family for consensus or do you immediately respond?

illicit Money is partly behind this. Money has long been siphoned off by the Politically connected CCP members and chanelled off into Bank accounts, Securities, Properties in the US and elsewhere... For example, have you ever wondered how do you think a lot of Wealthy Chinese Kids get their tuition and lavish lifestyles paid for ? Communism for the general populace whilst the Elite, live off them and suck the value out of their Country. By stopping these people travelling to the US, and imposing sanctions upon them - you're effectively freezing those monies until their source can be established and returned to the Chinese peoples after the CCP has been finished off.

The figure I hear in China is up to 12% of the population are members of the CCP. But there is no central published register accessible by the public.

A travel ban targeted a particular group is usually done for reasons other than the apparent 'all CCP members are persona non grata' edict. What is the real intention? Is this the first step of many to come towards a complete decouple?

One difficulty would be determining which Chinese nationals are party members, since U.S. authorities do not have full lists, the source said.

There are over 90 million members of the communist party.

While agree with the sentiment and would actually like to see such a policy, I would feel much better if policies such as these originated from a vote of both houses of Congress rather than as dictates from the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch should not be making law on its own. It's not how an elected representative government is supposed to work.
