It's long passed time to move away from the fossil economy. Binary reasoners, those who say it's burn oil or burn carrot juice: fossil fuels will continue to be burned for decades. We just have to burn a lot less of the stuff. And conserve more.

Emasculate Big Carbon.

You should have listened more seriously when this was brought up in the sixties and seventies.
Too late now.

When Guterres and his ilk stop flying around the world on those horrid carbon-spewing metal birds, I might start taking him seriously. Another example of do as I say, not as I do. Hypocrites, every single one of them.

So you don’t take climate change seriously because of hypocrites? I tend to look at the majority view of climate scientists. Conspiracy theorists, as very often, tend to find an outlier opinion and run with that while talking about silencing.
Hypocrites aside, do you think there is a problem with climate change exacerbated by humans?

What's wrong with calling out wrongs?
Worse still, what about all the conflicted interests out there?
Per the call from climate scientists, the UK, Australia et al were going to reduce emission AT THE SOURCE, by paying emitters directly for reducing emissions. They were ridiculed because this means they won't be buying carbon credits off of fat cat bankers.
Paris was dominated by duscussions about how to apply carbon credits, NOTHING on actually reducing emissions directly. If a country has been effective at reduction since Kyoto, that country was punished at Paris because carry over credits were deemed immoral by the fat cats. You have to buy new credits from the fat cats to be moral.
Sadly, because of the complexity, climate will run a distance second to carbon credits profits.

Many leaders are not even aware of the fact there is such thing as 'climate urgency', let alone declare the 'climate emergency'. What is weak UN trying to imply?

Nothing.
It’s just that I often hear this point which doesn’t really address the issue. Yes, there is hypocrisy everywhere. We are all guilty of hypocrisy to some extent.
I just want to know what people actually think about human behaviour contributing to climate change. Just say what you think.

Lets focus on the pandemic and feeding the hungry, not telling automakers to go electric when they just come out with ugly cars no one wants to drive.

Absolutely not.

"China always honours its commitments," Xi said.
Hahahahaha...!
Judging by its track record in Hong Kong (breaking the commitments to the UK decades early) and Xi's own commitment to not militarize the islands in the South China Sea, a Chinese 'commitment' to carbon neutrality FORTY years from now is so much jello. And China is the biggest emitter. We need to see measurable, concrete and irreversible steps each year from China.

No, I'm skeptical about the severity of it because all their alarmist predictions never come to pass - not even close. I'm much more concerned about environmental issues such as particulate matter in the air and the waste products from manufacturing and end-of-life disposal of all these so-called green energy sources - with the exception of hydro and geothermal. They can't provide stable baseload power that society needs to function effectively.
And I'm furious about the restrictions that local and national governments put on private land use based on UN puffery like the SDGs. These restrictions are significant contributors to the major bushfires we have seen in Australia and the US because landowners are fined for properly managing the undergrowth instead of letting it grow wild and free in the name of conservation. But as we've seen, it ends up having the opposite effect.
