Most of African migrants who arrive to Italy speak only English and French, because they are from European former colonial powers like France

because they are from Countries that are former colonies of colonial powers like France, I meant to say.

@Bintaro: This is that France that you praised so much in your first comment:

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/15/europe/oxfam-report-migrants-ventimiglia-intl/index.html

Most of these migrants wanto to go to France because they SPEAK French, and they are from former French colonies. They have also some family members who are living in France already.

Most of African migrants who arrive to Italy speak only English and French, because they are from European former colonial powers like France, the same Countries that today closed their doors to these migrants, forcing Italy to keep all of them. The migrants complain because us Italians are not able to speak French and English.

And you are surprised Italian people voted for this government, that is only asking to the EU to take THEIR responsability for all this mess?

YEAH, the main responsability for this mess was the war in Lybia caused by America and France.

And now Italy should feed the whole Africa. For heaven's sake.

@Bintaro: apparently you don't know that Italy had offered to Acquarius to let all pregnant women, children and sick people land to Italy. Italy offered this to Acquarius TWICE without getting ANY answer from Acquarius. So, apparently, Italy had to accept ALL the "refugees" or nobody. Isn't this weird? Plus, while this case became so popular in the media, nobody cares to say that in these same days Italy accepted almost 2,000 "migrants", we rejected only the Acquarius. Italy is collapsing, why do we accept THE WHOLE AFRICA just because we are close to it, uh? You know, France, Spain and the rest of Europe had closed their borders, before the current Italian government closed the ports to these FOREIGN NGOs. Enough is enough.

I seethe discussion really went south...

First : I didn't know there were different values to human life, that migrants death in the Mediterranean are less important because people are also dying in Yemen.

Second : I didn't know talking about migrants meant you don't care about other victims elsewhere.

Third : I didn't know that when people are in danger, where they come from and their status matters.

I leaned a lot. Mostly that morality and compassion are really dead.

All right then.

Posting a news story on their web site is just cover. Where are the journalists on the ground, live TV, to report on this genocide? Please spare me your attempts at trying to legtamize the MSM. They are nothing more than corporate mouthpieces selling snake oil.

Just type in ‘Yemen news’ on Google. Plenty of MSM sources to choose from.

No doubt they don’t reach the standard of your sites and they have some nefarious agendas, but they do refute your claim the MSM isn’t covering this issue.

Well, I did what you suggested and I don't see any major coverage except for the BBC trying to do newspeak "educating" why the Saudis and the UAE feel they need to takeover the country.

Euronews just had a clip of the boat people. They sure do look well dressed and sporting hair designs. Hardly the desperate asylum seekers one would imagine.

I guess it takes a post drug addicted biker to bring any thinking to the problem of loser Africa.

So their seeking peace and prosperity. Why not go back and fight for this in your own country?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Tunisia is the nearest safe country to Libya and the rescued migrants should be taken there. Otherwise, if a French ship (like the Aquarius) rescues them they should be taken to France, not Italy.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

No it isn’t. I’ve come across it from multiple sources.

But no links. Care to share?

I listen to the BBC Global News podcast every day. I've heard lots about Yemen and the problems with the port of Hudaydah; nothing about Saudi women buying popcorn at the cinema.

The only 24 fake news I have here is BBC, and Euronews which is showing a bunch of international soccer fans celebrating. The Mexicans look particularly happy.

@bintaro. A quick check on history will reveal Libya was the most prosperous nation in Africa before the Western regime change. People from all over Africa used to come there for work and send money back to their families in poorer nations. Gaddafi had abandoned nukes and received nice little payments from France and tony Blair. Then there was oil.

now Libya is a major trafficking route controlled by military and terror organization. Migrants are raped, tortured and forced into slavery. The traffickers regularly use torture to force the families of the migrants to pay ransom. They then take them to the middle of the Med and abandon them with no food or water or petrol in unseaworthy boats or rafts. These Libyan anarchist fiefdoms never existed under Gadaffi, and al-quieda and IS state wouldn’t last 5minutes. But western wars in the Middle East and Africa have created a desperation that probably can’t imagine.

follow the migrant path back from Europe and might understand.

Where an obvious genocide is occurring as we speak but is currently out of the MSM?

No it isn’t. I’ve come across it from multiple sources.

the BBC feel Saudi women going to the movies alone and buying popcorn is more important.

Under the Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. Spain, France and several other European countries also have the concept of "Duty to rescue".

Oh, and by the way, where is your "declaration" concerning the rights of civilians in Yemen? Where an obvious genocide is occurring as we speak but is currently out of the MSM? Nope, the BBC feel Saudi women going to the movies alone and buying popcorn is more important.

Why don't these NGOs just let the "immigrants" stay at THEIR homes? Otherwise, they are little better than enablers of illegal activity and should be prosecuted as such. Or, return them to their nearest point of origin- Libya or Tunisia. Europe already is economically stressed, no need for thousands more useless mouths to feed.

Gaddafi was overthrown and killed by his own people. The intervention there was merely to prevent him to massacre civilians (as we saw happening in Syria).

Oh really? So according to you there was no outside intervention before during and after the 2011 Libian civil war.

And Obama and Clinton were not seeking regime change. Just like Obama and Clinton were not seeking regime change in Syria.

What a wonderful world you live in.

By murdering Gaddafi and destabilizing Libya

Gaddafi was overthrown and killed by his own people. The intervention there was merely to prevent him to massacre civilians (as we saw happening in Syria).

Africa has had the same amount of time to build successful nations.

The same amount of time, really ? Even when it was colonized and exploited by European empires ?

why is Europe responsible for taking in these losers.

It's not even about taking them in, it's about helping people in danger. It doesn't matter if they are "losers" (whatever that means in your mind...).

Under the Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. Spain, France and several other European countries also have the concept of "Duty to rescue".

That means people must help those in danger, no matter where they're from, no matter they're status, but because they are human beings. No other justification is needed.

But if the fact they are "losers" justifies letting children drown in the Mediterranean... Well, your choice.

@Bintaro

More Fun Facts: By murdering Gaddafi and destabilizing Libya, the chaos created by France, Obama and Hillary, the ports in Lybia which were protected under Gaddafi, are now just lawless revolving doors for immigrants running away. Africa has had the same amount of time to build successful nations. Why are they unable to do so and why is Europe responsible for taking in these losers.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

@FizzBit :

Spain swooped to help 629 mainly sub-Saharan Africans

Fun fact : Lybia is not part of sub-Saharan Africa.

Declaration of the Rights of Man it created, and its motto of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.

France and Obama and Hillary created this instability by supporting the fake civil war in Libya. Send them to their homes.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

the migrants, who included seven pregnant women and 123 minors

We are at a point where people are ready to let pregnant women and children die at sea.

Italy is lost, but I hope France gets to remember the Declaration of the Rights of Man it created, and its motto of Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.

Good on Spain to prioritize human lives.
