Not winning much recently, Trump may have wanted to sneak this little Tarantinoesque caper under the radar in the hope that Maduro on display in a cage would boost his flagging "warrior" cred. Nice try, but Trump needs to focus more on fixing his pandumbic.

Goudreau isn't Jack Ryan, he's Gomer Pyle. These clowns sound just like the old anti-Castro idiots. And the ones they caught deserve to spend time in a Venezuelan prison. What would we do with a similar group "invading" America? Guantanamo Bay.

Trump had nothing to do with this. This was an independent mercenary operation. If the US government went in with all the resources they have, Maduro would be out and in a US prison by now. If they could get OBL then they could easily get Maduro if they wanted.

Trump doesn't even know where that country is.

He is too worried about losing to Sleepy Joe and opening up the country to a new pandemic war.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Trump definitely ordered this.

@Bass

Trump had nothing to do with this.

The capture prisoners on TV made a public announcement that the US government was involved. How do you know differently? Please provide evidence!

Numerous outlets have reported that Silvercorp’s Instagram included since-deleted posts that appear to confirm its work for Trump.

The Trump-linked company behind failed Venezuela coup live tweeted the whole thing

https://www.dailydot.com/debug/silvercorp-tweeted-venezuelan-coup/

In something of a plot twist, the likes of which have been admittedly common since 2016, Silvercorp apparently previously provided security to Trump. The company’s website says Goudreau “has planned and led international security teams for the President of the United States.”

LOL! trump voice: "I hire only the best people!" "I use all the best words!"

What a terrible "Wartime President"?! The whole world sees how incompetent the current US president is again! Another distraction from the failed pandemic response.

They're not exactly Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham are they.

Once more details come out about trump's connection, I wonder how long it will take before trump blames Pres. Obama for the failed coup (Pres. Obama trump)!

10 ( +14 / -4 )

(Pres. Obama trump)!

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I meant: (Pres. Obama is greater than trump)!

Maduro is in the same league as Dear Leader in North Korea.

Kim doesn't have oil. According to Big Oil and trump, Venezuela is in need of some good ole "American freedom!"

6 ( +11 / -5 )

I said Maduro, not Venezuela. They are both dictatorial scum.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

A former U.S. soldier captured in Venezuela said on Wednesday that he had been contracted by a Florida security firm to seize control of Caracas' airport and bring in a plane to fly President Nicolas Maduro to the United States.

That might be so or it might not. People say all sorts of things when captive and under pressure. Remember all the things that bomberman McCain said when captured by the North Vietnamese.

@Koharu Watanabe

I said Maduro, not Venezuela. They are both dictatorial scum.

A dictator rules an entire country, ne? Maduro controls Venezuela, ne? The dictator and the country are one and the same until the dictatorship ends, ne?

Both countries/leaders and their treatment by the US government has been different because one country (Venezuela) has oil, and one country (NK) does not!

Do you understand?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

For an American president who hates the deep state so much, he sure does love to go into the weeds with it when he feels like it.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Even I don't personally like Maduro, the option of having Guaido is way worse for the Venezuelan people. The US should adopt the multipolar world diplomacy. No more one sided antagonism. Everyone should be equally benefited from Capitalism. It is Win-Win! Pareto Efficency!

Trump should give the same cordial treatment of North Korea with Venezuela. Avoid all necessary conflicts, achieve prosperity together.

This is the good ole' anti American system. They'll be lenient if you speak a lie and denounce your country. Pure communist tactic.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

BTW, straight out of Putin's mouth.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Trump's failed attempt to out-do Obama's disposal of Osama Bin Laden.

Noticing the compensated posters here. Some Americans will do things for money under contract by non-govt people. It it was a USgovt effort, they wouldn't have any US passports and the "mission" would have worked.

This is the good ole' anti American system.

Exactly. We should be used to that. Just like western news media sometimes makes exaggerated comments about Chinese, Iranian and Vietnamese govts, with just enough truth to be believable.

The US doesn't need heavy oil. We export our own surplus and have been for years. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-politics-oil-blends/pdvsa-mixing-heavy-and-light-oil-due-to-lack-of-diluents-sources-idUSKCN1PW2WV Venezuela actually BUYS US light oil to mix with their heavy crude so it can be sold.

The Dutch care more about Venezuela oil than the US.

Except, this is Donnie boy who send his personal lawyer, his son-in-law, and daughter on secret US diplomatic missions to make deals with foreign governments, who uses Barr as his personal police officer, and who uses his personal lawyers to sue Congress aka (fixers). LOL!

It is not beyond reason for Donnie to try and out do Pres. Obama by sending his personal best people to overthrow a dictatorship like Gaddafi or kill a well known terrorist like Osama bin Laden to avoid anymore leaks of this incompetence and criminality.

LOL! Remember, trump the worst president ever has failed at every attempt to out due Pres. Obama, the publicly recognized greatest US president of our lifetime.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump definitely ordered this.

You don’t know that, nor do I, but since these guys are mercenaries, I doubt it.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

just because he said that doesn’t make it so, how do you know that he didn’t have a gun pointed at his head I was threatened? It’s not like this hasn’t happened before, where people were forced to say things that weren’t true.

What a terrible "Wartime President"?!

We are not at war. Huh?

The whole world sees how incompetent the current US president is again!

No, it’s the haters that think that.

Another distraction from the failed pandemic response.

Blame Dr. Bardot....unbelievable this woman.

You are defending the illegal destruction of Libya, including the anal rape and murder of Gaddafi by US supported Jihadis? Seriously? I hope you realize that the reason people support Trump is that he promised to stop this reckless and stupid warmongering.

People who wanted another warmonger president voted for Clinton.

It’s true - people will blame Trump for anything.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I hope you realize that the reason people support Trump is that he promised to stop this reckless and stupid warmongering.

I can understand that. Clinton didn't seem a great option. But looking from outside the US, I don't see any great stop to the warmongering. More worringly, I see continued attempts to control the economies of other countries - Venezuela being one example. And that control seems to take the form of support for rich elites. I'm still waiting for the US to have a campaign in aid of Iranian sheep farmers.

Apologies if I appear to be attacking the US. My own country is perhaps worse, but far less powerful or capable. I just hold hopes that the US can do greater things.

But looking from outside the US,

I think we all here are looking from outside the US; although a lot of the readers seem to be US voters.

Seriously? How many misguided military adventures has Trump started, like the destruction of Libya? Yes, he has inherited a the whole Irak, Afghanistan, and Syria mess, but is at least trying to wind it down. About "controlling economies", yes he is preferring to use economic sanctions as political leverage in situations like NK and China. You can agree or disagree with that, but you can not compare that to Clintons, Bushes, and Obamas illegal wars.
