and another shooting, probably dads gun laying around the home easily accessible by the kids. 2nd amendment kills more people than it protects.

"I don’t know how a young person gets a handgun in the state of North Carolina,"

Start by looking at their dumb parents.

11 shoot in Synagogue, 2 black men randomly shot in a store, a gunfight at a McDonald's, and now this. Just another week end in the USA !

Precisely the reason why guns are not only not necessary, but should be illegal. A minor scuffle between kids, and one has a gun, is angry, and does what would "naturally" happen when you mix a gun into the equation. Even at schools Americans never learn. Just another day in America.

The story probably started way back, long before the fistfight, perhaps with bullying.

Bringing the handgun to school was surely aimed at bringing conclusion to the story.

Probably, perhaps, surely.

Our just idle speculation. Let's focus on the facts we know.

I suspect the gun that was used WAS illegal.

Well, the guns are not the problem, the majority of gun users are law abiding citizens, every state has different laws or different requirements, strengthening the existing gun laws is a reasonable choice, banning them is emotional.

In countries where there is No gun, some use knives.

We don’t need to learn anything, but the politicians do, use the exsisting gun laws and enforce them.

A tragedy, especially in a school.

Still, the reality is that the US is safer than it has been in decades. The murder rate now is about half of what it was in the 1980s and 1990s. The same can be said for all major categories of crime. I wonder why?

I wonder why?

GMO food , pacifies the population!?

Local news says that it "began with bullying that escalated out of control."

A $20 trigget lock would have prevented this.

True. And their homicide rates are dramatically lower.

Or not?

So what's your point? They don't have the 2nd amendment and thankfully we do.

You know full well what the point is - lack of access to weaponry means that people are less likely to murder each other.

It means giving up a small piece of personal liberty in exchange for a lower murder rate

It means giving up a small piece of personal liberty

As terrible as this situation is, this is not acceptable.

A teen should never have access to any handgun without direct, constant, adult supervision.

"I don’t know how a young person gets a handgun in the state of North Carolina," Wilcox told reporters. "But we are going to look into all those things, and we will do our best to make sure that this never happens again."

They are able to get handguns because they are legal. It is that simple. If they were illegal some criminals would still have them, but there wouldn't be more of them in circulation than there are people in the U.S.

No one should have access to handguns. They exist only to kill people.

So what's your point?

You brought up the issue of knives, suggesting that killers are going to kill no matter what weapons are available. When I noted that knives are less lethal than guns, you deflected and brought up the glorious 2nd Amendment.

And so it goes.

This is why I regular question Bass' literacy. He doesn't seem to be able to track the thread of a conversation. I can never tell whether he is illiterate, or just pretending to be, so as to be disingenous with his 'debating' (if you can call spouting a bunch of hyper-partisan hyperbole not containing any actual substance 'debating').

There are many reasons for handguns that don't include killing anything. Killing is 1 reason. Target shooting is another. It is an Olympic sport. https://www.olympic.org/shooting

There is no legal way for someone under 18 yrs old to legally get a handgun in NC, with 1 exception that doesn't apply except in a tiny, tiny, tiny set of situations. They cannot walk into a store and buy one. NC requires a govt permit to purchase a handgun.

Having any firearm on school property or at any school event is a class-1 felony too.

The parents who allowed access to the firearm have the most responsibility for this incident, but the other parents who allowed their child to harass/bully someone else so much are also at fault.

If a gun wasn't available, a large knife would probably have been used.
