Chicago isn't a state, and the majority of guns recovered from crime scenes in Chicago are from outside of Illinois. Indiana, for example doesn't require background checks for privately sold guns. Only 11% of guns involved in crime came from a federally licensed firearms dealer.

California also has procedures in place to automatically track firearm owners and proactively disarm convicted criminals, people with certain mental illnesses, and others deemed dangerous. A big part of the problem with all the laws and databases is simply keeping up with the system, and doing basic administration that could really make a difference.

Well, obviously there are just way too many mass shootings in America now. So much so, that Trump has just mixed up his mass shootings in his most recent tweet. In a tweet dated November 14th, 2017, he expressed condolences to the people of Southerland, Texas.

Only when the tragedy and pain rises to unbearable will things begin to change gradually, from within.

A man spraying bullets on a crowd, killing scores and injuring hundreds more, is unbearable for most. Children massacred should be unbearable.

For some, having their right to own these filthy devices restricted is more unbearable.

There is nothing we can tell the citizens of the United States.

Only when the tragedy and pain rises to unbearable will things begin to change gradually, from within.

The difference is culture - other western countries' way of thinking about guns is something that citizens must affirmatively earn the right to own - the U.S. is one of only 3 countries (along with Mexico and Guatemala) that begin with the opposite assumption: that people have an inherent right to own guns

if States like California, Chicago and New York would enforce their gun laws that are already in the books, we might see less shootings.

NY actually has one of the states with the lower fire-arms assaults rate per 100k population, below the national average (states above the national average include Texas and California)

Guns are gods in America.

This reminds me of the movie Planet of Apes (part 2) 1970.  That movie depicts that creepy (American) survivors worship one ICBM just like God underground. Apes attack humans and their God. The earth are destroyed finally.

That's like saying that if a non-smoking sign isn't keeping smoke out of the non-smoking side of the restaurant, they should make the sign bigger.

Apples and kiwis argument again? The smoking laws in California were heavily enforced back in the earl 90’s and they were opposed by many people especially in the bar and club scene, but people gradually accepted it, if States like California, Chicago and New York would enforce their gun laws that are already in the books, we might see less shootings.

Fire and fury the likes of which the world has never seen before -- because the rest of the world has gun restrictions.

I pray that all the little children will wake up come Christmas morning and find a gun in their stockings. What better way to celebrate an American yuletide?

Let the light of the the Truth shine upon the unbelievers. The Bible advocates the use of weapons. It's a well known fact that the disciples were tooled up. Even the shepherds and wise men had semi-automatics as they praised the new-born saviour.

Only liberals would dispute this. ROTFL.

Read the JT stories. If someone wants to kill someone, it will happen.

Yeah... The killers kill one, two, maybe three people in those stories.

There's the guy in Kanagawa, but it took him a couple months and meticulous planning to kill nine. This guy in California killed five people in less than an hour. In about the same amount of time, the guy in Texas killed 29, Vegas 58, Orlando 49, etc.

When they don't have guns, killers have to work harder for diminished results. With a pot, it's practically a fluke.

The problem is mental health, but society cannot afford mental health care for everyone. Society needs to make a decision about caring for the elderly or another societal problem.

Read the JT stories. Japan has the same problems, but no monthly mass murders.

Guns are gods in America. It's a new religion now. This is yet another tragic indicator but the politicians won't listen to reason.

Knives don't kill people, people kill people with knives. Pans don't kill people, people with pots and pans kill people. Read the JT stories. If someone wants to kill someone, it will happen. It is what makes the Japan tv series popular. The problem is mental health, but society cannot afford mental health care for everyone. Society needs to make a decision about caring for the elderly or another societal problem.

Now is not an appropriate time to discuss restrictions. Now is the time for prayers

how about before?

anyway, these things happen everyday so not news. it has become like talking to a stranger on the bus about the weather.

Don’t need more gun laws,

Yes ,we do. We need to

-- ban all semi-automatic weapons.

-- ban magazines with a capacity of greater then six. A compromise: 10.

-- ban all ammo that can work with either the above.

Simple really. All we need is the politicians to do it.

And that mean we gottta make it happen.

I'm from CA. Born and bred. Like most Californians, we want guns tightly controlled -- especially in urban ares.

But the death cult known as the NRA, and their allies in the Party of Torture and Hate won't let us.

States rights. Uh huh.

I'm thinking of running on the following platform. Its real easy to understand:

Ban semi-auto and automatic weapons. Ban them now.

There is a real simple solution to this. They just need to execute anyone who would do these type of killings, before they are able to kill anyone! That's a way better solution than enforcing already existing laws, since we know that already doesn't work, and a better solution to increased mental health care, since we already know the Republicans cut funding for that.

Don’t need more gun laws, you need to enforce heavily the laws that are already in the books. By gunpoint, if necessary.

Don’t need more gun laws, you need to enforce heavily the laws that are already in the books.

Gun-advocates always say this whenever a shooting occurs, and yet shootings continue to occur with increasing frequency.

California has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. Don’t need more gun laws, you need to enforce heavily the laws that are already in the books.

The suspect was not surprisingly involved in a "domestic violence incident" reported by neighbors before the shooting. In this case a stronger more proactive police response should possibly have spotted these guns ahead of the spree.

Authorities say a gunman tried to get into rooms at a California elementary school with the intent of shooting children but that workers initiated a lockdown that saved lives.

Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston says school officials heard shots being fired and immediately locked down Rancho Tehama School in a tiny, rural town Tuesday.

He says it was “monumental” that school workers took the action they did and there is no doubt in his mind they saved the lives of countless children.

Just remember, guns don't kill, people with guns kill. We will repeat these tragedies into perpetuity unless we, as a society, come to our senses and demand that sensible restrictions on guns and ammunition be put in place and enforced with vigor.

California has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. Don’t need more gun laws, you need to enforce heavily the laws that are already in the books.

but obviously not important enough for the powers that be to try and keep such things from happening.

You can’t speak for the people, you or I don’t know if that family has a right to carry or if they support gun rights.

Thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers, thoughts and prayers.

Nothing's gonna change, this is the America we have chosen.

I'm terribly sorry for the parents and families of the wounded and murdered children. Bad enough to suffer such a loss, worse to know it's happening because we don't care enough to stop it... your pain is real, but obviously not important enough for the powers that be to try and keep such things from happening.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Toasted.

not sure prayers will solve this - if god cared he wouldn't allow these incidents to happen - especially in churches and to kids.

And arming everyone seems like a surefire way to ratchet up the body count, not reduce it.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The answer is simple, arm the kids.

There should be pre-school training in the use of firearms. Kids will not be allowed to attend school until they are proficient in armed defence and pre-emptive strategies.

Pupils should engage in armed drills at each lunch and recess period.

Each morning they should pledge allegiance to the NRA.

Parents who oppose such moves should receive jail sentences for endangering precious young lives.

Any politician who proposes gun control should be stripped of office and also charged with endangering lives.

Another day, another US shooting.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

One constant that won't change is that we will have massive amounts of guns and mass shootings. So let's start behaving like a society that accepts this.

Schools need safe rooms. Big ones, enough to house a ton of students. It should be built into every new school constructed and old schools need to be retrofitted. Schools should also have some kind of messaging system that instantly sends out a message to get everyone to the safe room. Maybe add alarms, speakers, whatever it is you need to get the kids inside and into safety. And have drills for it during the year so the kids learn what to do if a shooter starts massacring people on campus. Have safety standards and ratings based on school shooters so parents can compare schools.

Armed guards? Sure, if the gun nutters want to volunteer for protection duty then I'm all for it. These things are already going to cost a lot and as someone with no guns or kids I'm only willing to pay a max price to help keep other people's kids safe. We could do a tax on gun sales and gun related items, but I suspect that won't fly as it would be a burden for the gun buyers, and if there's any burden to be had it will be placed on society, not them.

'nother day in 'Merika.

There aren't going to be anymore restrictions in California anyway. They already have the strictest gun laws in the country. RIP.

Forever and ever.

Amen.

guns don't kill, people with guns kill

What a nonsense phrase! If guns were banned, no one would have been shot to death.
