And the killings and destruction was for what?

Historically wars have been fought because of competing ideologies and/or one side's desire to take the other's resources. Recently there have also been several examples of state's fighting over ideology and resources. But in addition to those two, another is some states need to sell weapons to maintain their economic growth. War remains good for business.
