Didn't somebody tell us ISIS had been defeated? Who was that guy?
Our wars in the Middle East are never going to be over because the generals love it and the munitions contractors love the money. We'll be fighting to kill the revenge-motivated sons and grandsons of our death campaigns until the money runs out.

“When Assad controlled this area, he kept a lid on all this nonsense.”
“Nonsense” or “legitimate rebellion”? “Bad guys” or “good guys”?
Assad’s father, Hafez al-Assad, put down a “rebellion”/“nonsense”, said to be instigated by the Muslim Brotherhood, in Homs in 1982 at a cost of 2,000 - 40,000 lives (rather big disagreement on the numbers).
Saddam Hussein was also quite effective in putting down “rebellions”/“nonsense”.
The problem is distinguishing between “rebellions” and “nonsense”, “good guys” and “bad guys”. I’m no expert.

"ISIS has been defeated. We've beaten them, and beaten them badly." Miss Emily Litella: "Never mind."
