The U.S. coronavirus death toll - the highest in the world -

To be added to Trump's legacy. Next to the asterisk denoting impeachment. History will be even more unkind to Trump than 'the media' are to him (at least according to Trump and followers) now.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

It is not surprising to see this number of deaths in the US.

The poor get an understaffed and inadequate system.

The middle class, a system that is extremely costly.

The US needs radical reform but it’s too costly for any politician to contemplate...

14 ( +15 / -1 )

They should be following up on previous cases and removing them from the figure after they've recovered.

An accurate active cases count would be more useful than the accumulated total the media always gives up.

That is an accurate count of total cases. If you want the number of active cases:

50,269 cases have recovered out of 636,868 total, so about 585,000 or so active cases.

Way to keep the liberal media honest there, 585,000 sounds way less dramatic than 630,000 (smallest clapping sound possible).

12 ( +14 / -2 )

it took 38 days to reach 10,000 deaths and nine days to jump from 10,000 fatalities to 30,000.

My gosh.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Could the mounting death toll NYC is experiencing be proof that self-quarantine and social distancing protocols have no effect on the spread and contraction of the virus?

If there's one city doing it right, I'd think it's there. But day after day there's nothing but loss.

The U.S. coronavirus death toll - the highest in the world -

Uh huh. And the 21,000 deaths in Italy is to be added to Prime Minister Conte's legacy, right?

Pfffft. Have to wonder what the real numbers in China are.

-15 ( +3 / -18 )

Could the mounting death toll NYC is experiencing be proof that self-quarantine and social distancing protocols have no effect

California-much better results.

NY State and NYC-not doing well at all.

Canada-seems to be doing ok (relatively speaking)

7 ( +7 / -0 )

@serranoUh huh. And the 21,000 deaths in Italy is to be added to Prime Minister Conte's legacy, right?

Deflection? Or maybe it's just me not seeing how Conte pertains to the issue re Trump.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

@Burning Bush

They should be following up on previous cases and removing them from the figure after they've recovered.

It matters little. For Tokyo a few days ago when you mentioned this point, it was 162 infected and 21 recovered. Yesterday, in Japan plus 548 infected and 47 recovered.

Your point is that it isn’t as serious as everyone thinks, and that it is just “a little cold” which is what Xi, Trump, Abe, Johnson and many others thought as well.

The reality it is most likely worse than what’s reported. I have not read anyone or any paper that suspects the actual numbers are lower in Wuhan, New York, Japan, Italy, or anywhere. One Italian doctor said the death numbers are higher. Regardless of nationality or politics, actual numbers are not lower.

Even if just a cold, those 30,000 deaths would have hoped more could have been done for them.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Trump is responsible for the spread of the virus in the US.

He has presided over the deaths of your families, friends. The people who take care of you. Health workers, hospital staff, emergency services.

What brave people will step up and save the USA?

8 ( +13 / -5 )

@Burning Bush

Why are you spreading the conspiracy theories that the numbers are a hoax?

Who are your hoping to benefit?

14 ( +17 / -3 )

There is one reason that the United States leads the world in Covid-19 cases, and its name is Trump. Had we focused on a defense in February and March, instead of denial, we would look like South Korea or Singapore. Instead, no other nation has done as poor a job as we have, and that is entirely because we are lead by a reality tv - conspiracy theory president who doesn't know how to do anything but lie and steal.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

But there's no followup, so the keep fully recovered healthy people in the "confirmed cases" count to inflate the numbers.

Got it. The numbers make Trump look bad, so we need to make up new numbers out of thin air that make him look good.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Could the mounting death toll NYC is experiencing be proof that self-quarantine and social distancing protocols have no effect on the spread and contraction of the virus?

Given that the virus cannot spread through walls to our knowledge, we can only assume that the counterfactual with no controls would have been far far worse.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

@serranoUh huh. And the 21,000 deaths in Italy is to be added to Prime Minister Conte's legacy, right?

Deflection? Or maybe it's just me not seeing how Conte pertains to the issue re Trump.

Nope, just taking your "logic" a step further.

Trump is responsible for the spread of the virus in the US.

Nonsense. You must have missed this again -

January 31: Trump blocks travel from China

Trump issues an executive order blocking entry to the US from anyone who has been in China in the last 14 days.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

But there's no followup, so the keep fully recovered healthy people in the "confirmed cases" count to inflate the numbers.

It is highly relevant to understanding how quickly the disease has spread.

If we strip out recovered people it confuses people. Anyone can check the data if they want and see the number infected, the number dead and the number recovered.

Anyway, weren't you saying that it would be good if we all spent our lives under lockdown in previous posts to fight the virus. Surely keeping people alarmed would be better to achieve this?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Slowly but surely.

The guest experts in the medical field on TV strongly recommends 10,000 PCR tests per day in Japan. Last week only some 4600 tests in Japan.

This must be increased to 10,000 per day said the Nobel Prize laureate Honjo 本庶 sensei. He also recommends shutting down rush hour and commuter trains.

This is their response when asked about the trains: No way I would take the train

「私は絶対乗りません」

Trump has blood on his hand. He's done a great job.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

-30% Economic impact for 3 months with many deaths

versus

-90% Economic impact for 1 month but getting it under control.

Of the two the Nobel laureate recommends the latter. He compares the virus to a ninja and to carry out tests so we can make the enemy visible in order to fight.

The signs in family mart say to stay one meter apart, but the CDC says to stay two meters apart. Japan has a lot of catching up to do.

The curve is flattening but the numbers are still high even when falling.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

of course the article doesnt mention the NYC Mayor Deblasio added nearly 4000 deaths to the total in one day.

As "presumed" coronavirus deaths, as these people were never tested.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

> of course the article doesnt mention the NYC Mayor Deblasio added nearly 4000 deaths to the total in one day.

As "presumed" coronavirus deaths, as these people were never tested.

Its definitely a conspiracy headed up by the Deep State and funded by Soros for the purpose of making Donny look bad.

There must be no basis for having done this, unless there was but our registered democrat that voted Republican simply decided to go for a sound bite instead of including the entire story:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/04/14/nyregion/new-york-coronavirus-deaths.amp.html

8 ( +9 / -1 )

These deaths ARE "presumed" as these people were NOT tested. Plus adding all 3700+ to the count all in one day makes it look even worse. which is surely the intention, to support the resistance who dont want the country reopened. Didnt people used to die at home in NYC prior to coronavirus?

https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/albany/story/2020/04/14/new-york-city-coronavirus-death-toll-jumps-by-3-700-after-uncounted-fatalities-are-added-1275931

Previously, the city had not counted people who died at home without getting tested for the coronavirus, or who died in nursing homes or at hospitals, but did not have a confirmed positive test result. Mayor Bill de Blasio admitted last week that the true number of deaths was far higher than the official tally (edit: based on WHAT data?) , and said the city would start including presumed coronavirus cases in its data.

-15 ( +0 / -15 )

The US response to Covid 19, unfortunately, has been nothing short of an absolute disaster lead by none other than Trump himself. This should be the script to his next press briefer:

You make it sound as if de Blasio is now chalking up every death to coronavirus, which is not the case. The deaths included in the total that weren’t subjected to testing showed signs of having had the coronavirus. But, don’t let that stop your incessant march to degrade your fellow Democrats.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

what signs? like a positive test? nope, there was not even a test taken.

The deaths included in the total that weren’t subjected to testing showed signs of having had the coronavirus

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Its relevant due to being from the same source as the one you claim supports your position. Sure, the evidence NY Times edited an article at request of the Biden campaign to benefit Biden after he complained is common knowledge and not disputed by anyone.

How is this relevant to the coronavirus deaths?

Any evidence to support this claim?

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

of course the article doesnt mention the NYC Mayor Deblasio added nearly 4000 deaths to the total in one day.

*

As "presumed" coronavirus deaths, as these people were never tested.

Yeah, I see your point.  I heard Deblasio planted all 4,000 corpses himself just to make Trump look bad.  He had the help of WHO helicopters to handle the logistics.  Can't believe the MSM isn't picking up on that angle of the story, but its so typical.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

The resistance? Oh boy. This should be good.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

No its not good at all.

Liberal state governors are resisting to open the country back up, are they not? Banding together against the desires of their own citizens.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Could the mounting death toll NYC is experiencing be proof that self-quarantine and social distancing protocols have no effect on the spread and contraction of the virus?

No, it's proof what happens when people DO NOT self-quarantine and follow warnings.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

what signs? like a positive test? nope, there was not even a test taken

Are you familiar with the word symptoms? Are you familiar with the fact that the average of deaths is much higher this year than last?

Its relevant due to being from the same source as the one you claim supports your position. Sure, the evidence NY Times edited an article at request of the Biden campaign to benefit Biden after he complained is common knowledge and not disputed by anyone.

It’s only relevant if you have evidence that the Times did alter the article at the request of the abides campaign. Sorry, but “it’s common knowledge” is not evidence of your outlandish claim. Additionally, the fact that I am disputing it means that someone does dispute it.

Evidence?

CNN reports that Indiana Republican Rep. Trey Hollingsworth made an appearance on radio station WIBC and said straight up that, virus be damned, “it is always the American government’s position to say, in the choice between the loss of our way of life as Americans and the loss of life, of American lives, we have to always choose the latter."

This is utterly beyond the pale.

The ones who just announced that they are forming plans to open up?

Are red states now open?

Japan seems to operate to scale: This space is small, so we will scale the two meter rule to the space.

'2 meters distance determines our existence' has been getting around for weeks. So has the mantra Test, test, test. All to no avail.

Trumps efforts to shift responsibility are shameful. A May 1st easing of restrictions sounds early and the states easing restrictions are inviting the 2nd wave.

Take the economic pain across the board for a month. Half measures are only leading to half results prolonging the economic and health struggle.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yeah while at the same time extending their stay at home orders.and going to the media and claiming things wont happen until 2021 or later. Yep, Texas is opening tomorrow, thank you.

wrong california went into lockdown early on , now having the largest population in the US they are doing very well compared to the national average of fatalities and death. Yes contrary to deluded belief quarantining social distancing does work

7 ( +7 / -0 )

multiple states have had protests against the stay at home orders.

Its all over the news, even the liberal news.

no theyll open up when the science and the experts deem it safe to do so, not on some gut feeling.

States will open when their governors declare it open, Trump has no authority to demand anything else

8 ( +8 / -0 )

thanks for your service but your now expendable

Remember when Obamacare was being discussed and the right wing attacked it ranting 'there's death clause provisions in it that will kill your grandparents'.

Now so many in the far right in the US and 'abroad' are pushing eugenicist principles, saying it's only the elderly, sick and poor getting the worst of it.

Even though those same eugenicists have almost no reliable data showing what the virus is about, and even worse what it might turn into if more people ignore the physical distancing and other health warnings.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Typical trump supporter: I dont need "evidence"

There will be more deaths and infections coming soon. The idiotic trump supporters in Michigan just had a rally because the Democratic governor ordered a lockdown for their safety.

Wait until these idiots infect each other and take it home to their families.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

multiple states have had protests against the stay at home orders.

Protests by a majority of citizens? If not, you’re still incorrect.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Wait until these idiots infect each other and take it home to their families.

Who'll unfortunately spread it to the general population. This virus is exposing a huge list of problems the country (as well as states, cities and counties) has ignored or done a poor job dealing with. One is NOT making basic science a larger part of education at all levels. Perhaps schools can start by forbidding 'intelligent design' theories from being taught in publicly funded institutions.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Leaders are far from being the main culprits.

Being overweight is the main reason for getting serious symptoms (83% to be precise following French study).

You have your answer.

It does not mean one shall not follow rules.

But transparency is not a bliss.

It would explain why some countries not heavily hit although crowded (Japan!)

Trying to be scientific and help people.

One may have other reasons to get serious symptoms (like asthma for me), or be asymptomatic but infect your loved ones old/at risk.

Stay home whenever possible and protect yourself. Find ways to keep working and socializing.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Bizarre.

Yeah, things like concerts and football games and large gatherings. We are clearly having a conversation about the broader picture of getting people back to work, not to baseball games.
