Why would the tax agencies have any relevance? No one has even suggested any improprieties insofar as tax laws are concerned. That's not the reason why all presidential candidates release their taxes. The reason being that, like you say, if they had any tax irregularities, the IRS would already have been on it. But the IRS is only looking at whether the proper taxes have been paid, that is their mandate.

Add to that that by becoming president, a person loses their rights as a private citizen to some degree. That's just part of the job. Don't like it? Don't become president. Got something to hide? Don't become president. The people deserve a president who not only has nothing to hide, they are also willing to prove it.

I would too. But our motivations are in creating safe, non-corrupt democracies, whereas their motivation is maintaining the power Trump brought to their team. We support transparency, because it makes for a fairer society for all those in it. They do not want transparency for Trump, as they know as well as we do that it would likely not be good for Trump, which could result in their losing power.

Its just a political stunt the Democrats couldn't get their dirt through the Russia collision, its on to the Tax Returns, if their was dirt to be fund don't you think an random audit by the IRS would have already found something illegal. The most likely thing is he doesn't pay any tax, a lot of rich people don't because most of their wealth is tide up in their business interests - even rich Democrats use the same process.

We saw Trump’s taxes from I think 2012 or so and it showed he payed vast amounts, now CNN did a 2 yr Audit into his returns and came up with zip, Mueller would also have pored over his returns and nothing untoward showed up, the IRS always check a sitting Presidents tax returns very carefully each and every yr and have found nothing incriminating, just because you want something to be wrong doesn’t mean there is, sorry.

U.S. congressional Democrats on Saturday headed for a showdown with the Internal Revenue Service over President Donald Trump's tax returns, setting a new hard deadline of April 23 for the federal tax agency to hand the documents over to lawmakers.

It doesn't matter how many times elected Democrats let their arbitrary deadlines for the IRS records slide. If, or when, elected Democrats finally get around to forcing this issue, it is headed to court. And then to the Supreme Court. One of the issues that the Supreme Court will decide is if the laws that are being bandied about on the internet are actually constitutional. Can these laws actually be applied to a sitting President? Another issue will be whether, or not, anyone's tax returns must be produced in order to settle a political matter. It looks like the Democrats will, once again, be very sad about the outcome of yet another fishing expedition.

Tax files are personal and private information. They should not be accessed unless evidence of wrong doing is found when they are processed. The laws on this are strict, even though the Democrats are broken them in the past. The Democrats are trying to get around privacy laws and go on another fishing expedition against the president and his family. They want to waste millions more of the tax payers money trying to harass Trump.

And you could add those to the ever growing list:

the President’s debts and payments relating to efforts to influence the 2016 election;

the President’s compliance with financial disclosure requirements;

the President’s compliance with campaign finance laws;

the President’s compliance with tax laws;

the President’s potential and actual conflicts of interest;

the President’s business practices;

the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.;

the accuracy of the President’s public statements;

potentially fraudulent or inappropriate practices by the Trump Foundation; and

public efforts by the President and his attorney to intimidate Mr. Cohen or others not to testify.

If the IRS refuses, then the House leaders will take it to a judge. Of course, it will be a specially selected judge. If the judge rules that the IRS must comply, then the Justice department will has the SCOTUS to rule, which is Republican stacked. The ruling will most likely say the current law is unconstitutional and doesn't need to be followed, over-turning the lower court.

Democrats should make this into a campaign issue that all members of the Senate and Congress and Executive branch Cabinet and above must share their tax filings for the prior 7 yrs.

What will happen is all these people will shift their finances into trusts, which are a separate legal entity to hide their taxes, but look like paupers on their personal taxes, while living in mansions owned by the trusts.

In the end, no more visibility will happen and this is a waste of time.

Again showing no, or perhaps a hyper-partisan's distorted, understanding of the US Constitution. The US Constitution allows for changes to be made to it. If the Constitution is followed, steps can be followed to abolish or 'amend' its parts. It's clear many Trump backers have disdain for the systems created by the founding fathers.

Too scary and embarrassing for Republicans to consider what is probably in those tax returns. They don't want to be forced to believe that they really have been conned for the past 3 or 4 years (since Trump decided to run) by the master of the con himself.

Be good for the country to find out who's lent him money, how much he owes them, and whether he's susceptible to coercion or blackmail. I'm betting it's Russian banks or "Ivan the investor".

Mnuchin and the GOP are building a firewall around Trump to protect his and their financial interests.
