Would you agree through that his taxes would have been fine tooth combed by several agencies and as nothing adverse has arisen, there’s really no point in invading Trump’s privacy

Why would the tax agencies have any relevance? No one has even suggested any improprieties insofar as tax laws are concerned. That's not the reason why all presidential candidates release their taxes. The reason being that, like you say, if they had any tax irregularities, the IRS would already have been on it. But the IRS is only looking at whether the proper taxes have been paid, that is their mandate.

Add to that that by becoming president, a person loses their rights as a private citizen to some degree. That's just part of the job. Don't like it? Don't become president. Got something to hide? Don't become president. The people deserve a president who not only has nothing to hide, they are also willing to prove it.

Why don’t Trump supporters have a problem with him saying he’d release his tax returns and not doing it?

I’d have a problem with any politician doing this.

I would too. But our motivations are in creating safe, non-corrupt democracies, whereas their motivation is maintaining the power Trump brought to their team. We support transparency, because it makes for a fairer society for all those in it. They do not want transparency for Trump, as they know as well as we do that it would likely not be good for Trump, which could result in their losing power.

Its just a political stunt the Democrats couldn't get their dirt through the Russia collision, its on to the Tax Returns, if their was dirt to be fund don't you think an random audit by the IRS would have already found something illegal. The most likely thing is he doesn't pay any tax, a lot of rich people don't because most of their wealth is tide up in their business interests - even rich Democrats use the same process.

Jimiso

Would you agree through that his taxes would have been fine tooth combed by several agencies and as nothing adverse has arisen, there’s really no point in invading Trump’s privacy, he was a high profile business so it would make sense that he wouldn’t want them revealed, btw I don’t care if he does or he doesn’t, it’s just another ploy by the Dems now the fake Russian probe is over.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

We saw Trump’s taxes from I think 2012 or so and it showed he payed vast amounts, now CNN did a 2 yr Audit into his returns and came up with zip, Mueller would also have pored over his returns and nothing untoward showed up, the IRS always check a sitting Presidents tax returns very carefully each and every yr and have found nothing incriminating, just because you want something to be wrong doesn’t mean there is, sorry.

So there is the prospect that while the Dems are contesting the 20/20 election there could be a line of American intelligence agents and maybe some Democrats being put before a court to answer questions regarding an attempted coup of a fairly elected President, good luck with that.

Pukey2 - Mnuchin got completed owned by Maxine Waters in a recent hearing about the man-child's taxes. Called his bluff. And she wasn't about to let anyone tell her what she should do with the 'gravel'!

LOL. Mnuchin told mad Max Waters that she had exceeded her scheduled time allotment, and Waters was forced to let Mnuchin leave the hearing. Waters also admitted that she was new to this chairmanship thing. She probably forgot what the gavel was for. Or how to pronounce it's name.

U.S. congressional Democrats on Saturday headed for a showdown with the Internal Revenue Service over President Donald Trump's tax returns, setting a new hard deadline of April 23 for the federal tax agency to hand the documents over to lawmakers.

It doesn't matter how many times elected Democrats let their arbitrary deadlines for the IRS records slide. If, or when, elected Democrats finally get around to forcing this issue, it is headed to court. And then to the Supreme Court. One of the issues that the Supreme Court will decide is if the laws that are being bandied about on the internet are actually constitutional. Can these laws actually be applied to a sitting President? Another issue will be whether, or not, anyone's tax returns must be produced in order to settle a political matter. It looks like the Democrats will, once again, be very sad about the outcome of yet another fishing expedition.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I thought President Trump was supposed to be indicted by now, just wait till Mueller finishes with him, it’s Mueller time and he’s at the WH gates, Trump’s going to be impeached by his tweets just 1 crazy tinfoil hat theory after another and now the fake Russian probe is now proven as a setup which many intelligence agencies could be answerable to, its back to his tax’s, Trump’s once said when Hillary releases the missing emails he will release his tax returns, sounds fair to me.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Those who don’t think transparency in government is important belong in a banana republic.

Trump is forcing his followers to abandon basic principles to defend him.

Tax files are personal and private information. They should not be accessed unless evidence of wrong doing is found when they are processed. The laws on this are strict, even though the Democrats are broken them in the past. The Democrats are trying to get around privacy laws and go on another fishing expedition against the president and his family. They want to waste millions more of the tax payers money trying to harass Trump.

And you could add those to the ever growing list:

the President’s debts and payments relating to efforts to influence the 2016 election;

the President’s compliance with financial disclosure requirements;

the President’s compliance with campaign finance laws;

the President’s compliance with tax laws;

the President’s potential and actual conflicts of interest;

the President’s business practices;

the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.;

the accuracy of the President’s public statements;

potentially fraudulent or inappropriate practices by the Trump Foundation; and

public efforts by the President and his attorney to intimidate Mr. Cohen or others not to testify.

Wow. Off-topic posting galore.

If the IRS refuses, then the House leaders will take it to a judge. Of course, it will be a specially selected judge. If the judge rules that the IRS must comply, then the Justice department will has the SCOTUS to rule, which is Republican stacked. The ruling will most likely say the current law is unconstitutional and doesn't need to be followed, over-turning the lower court.

Democrats should make this into a campaign issue that all members of the Senate and Congress and Executive branch Cabinet and above must share their tax filings for the prior 7 yrs.

What will happen is all these people will shift their finances into trusts, which are a separate legal entity to hide their taxes, but look like paupers on their personal taxes, while living in mansions owned by the trusts.

In the end, no more visibility will happen and this is a waste of time.

But go ahead, force the issue. They might be lucky.

At the rate he’s going they’ll probably find out he’s owed a refund.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Has the IRS found anything wrong with them? Those about to be found guilty of treason are desperate to find anything on Trump. Pain begins. Prison. The cabal are coup coup!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Come on! Imagine if Obama or Clinton (Bill or Hill) hadn't released their tax returns two years into their presidencies. It's undeniable the GOP would go ballistic. It's a simple case of wanting to know the truth and previously submitted tax returns don't lie.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Chairman Neal need not explain his request further. He needs only to issue a warrant to Mnuchin and the IRS Commissioner for contempt while concurrently issuing the subpoena.

The spectacle of government officials and Republican politicians breaking the law to protect Trump is both telling and terrifying.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

It's not mandatory for someone to provide their tax records. It was always a publicity stunt to convince the American public that their president is some sort of larger than life hero.

Q: Who cares about his tax records? A: Haters, and haters are losers in this case. Again.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

@bas4 if the Democrats cared about the Constitution they wouldn’t try to abolish t

Again showing no, or perhaps a hyper-partisan's distorted, understanding of the US Constitution. The US Constitution allows for changes to be made to it. If the Constitution is followed, steps can be followed to abolish or 'amend' its parts. It's clear many Trump backers have disdain for the systems created by the founding fathers.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Too scary and embarrassing for Republicans to consider what is probably in those tax returns. They don't want to be forced to believe that they really have been conned for the past 3 or 4 years (since Trump decided to run) by the master of the con himself.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Be good for the country to find out who's lent him money, how much he owes them, and whether he's susceptible to coercion or blackmail. I'm betting it's Russian banks or "Ivan the investor".

And yet, the Trumpets don't want to see this information, even though it's their country too.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

You're admitting Trump's trying to eliminate opposition,

I didn’t admit anything.

Trump backers need to be reminded the US Constitution contains more than the 2nd Amendment.

Really, then the Democrats need to remember all of the amendments including the first amendment which the Democrats obviously don’t know anything about and the if the Democrats cared about the Constitution they wouldn’t try to abolish the EC, pack the courts, allow adolescent minors to vote, allow convicted felons to vote, block conservative speech on college campuses. The last thing Democrats care about is the Constitution.

Start with Constitutional provisions for maintaining the balance and separation of powers.

Right back at you. Please remember that. I’m marking this date now.

Continuing disdain for the separation of powers.

Hey, liberals should know, right?

Nothing but a serial liar and con-man...a failed reality TV star

Failed? Not at all, the ratings were through the roof. If it weren’t for Trump, NBC would’ve been even lower in the Dumps then they are now. But seriously, get over it, liberals need to man up, the name calling doesn’t mean anything. Sure, I think the Democrats are worse than the mafia, but I can’t get rid of them....I’ll let them hang their own necks, so now they want to get Trump’s taxes, good luck, as it looks now, they’ll probably never see the ink on it, BUT at least they can never give in to their impulsive and inquisitive nature to peruse this like the Russian hoax. Try and get the taxes and keep chasing rabbits and we will watch the WH slip your grasps once again.

First, notice no mention of the topic of the post - that Trump said multiple times that he'd release his tax returns. That's the typical Trumper dodge...

And on another thread, this poster said Trump's success as an entertainer was reason enough for him to be President. That's their thinking - not experience, not intellect, not integrity - just he's "entertaining"...

Democrats are the biggest gift to Trump’s second term. Lol

Oh no, that would be all the supporters he has conned...maybe some of the illegals he employs at his properties will vote for him too...

Trump May 2014: "If I decide to run for office, I'll produce my tax returns, absolutely," he said. "And I would love to do that."

Trump Feb 2015: Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would "certainly show tax returns if it was necessary."

Trump Oct 2015: Trump said in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos that he was considering releasing his tax returns.

Trump Jan 2016: Trump told NBC's Chuck Todd that he had "very big returns." Asked if he would release them publicly, Trump said, "we're working on that now." "I have very big returns, as you know, and I have everything all approved and very beautiful and we'll be working that over in the next period of time, Chuck," Trump said. "Absolutely."

Trump Feb 2016: Trump appeared again on Hewitt's radio program and said of his returns, "we'll get them out at some point, probably."

Remind you of anything? Like "Mexico will pay for the wall, mark my words, mark my words"...

Nothing but a serial liar and con-man...a failed reality TV star who pulled the ultimate con on his supporters...

A different question though. Why won't you allow Trump to be held accountable? That is the question that needs to be answered and hasn't been.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Only a businessman trying to hide something, perhaps doing something illegal, would hide things.

Not necessarily. But given the political environment and how the Dems have weaponized the FBI and you think this guy wants to give the IRS with its history of being weaponized as in 2011, Trump is not going to take that chance and I don’t blame him and I hope he does everything to prevent the Democrats and their minions from getting their mitts on them.

You're admitting Trump might be hiding something. No American, not even a president, is above the law.

I’m glad you said that, so then you agree with me that Lerner, Holder, Clinton, Rice, Obama, Podesta, Comey, Brennan, Clapper are not above the law, right?

Hopefully laws on the books will require Trump and his protectors in the swamp (which he continues to expand )to show his taxes.

Then if you say that, you also agree with me that Lois Lerner should be held accountable for what she did and how she used her agency to target and audit conservative donors taking them out of the 2011 election cycle, you want justice as much as I do, right?

If they've done something illegal, why hasn't Trump's DOJ gone after them? No one should be above the law.

Sessions is not there anymore as you have now witnessed, so many investigations, let’s start first with the FISA report and work our way up, thank God for Barr.

Trump and his backers continue trying to eliminate opposition to the fuhrer-wannabe and push for a diktator uber alles. They've long sought to undermine the principles the republic was built on.

Absolute garbage. It’s more like the Democrats are still angry that they lost and now they are trying to do what they couldn’t do at the ballot box and that’s trying to overturn the election of a duly elected President, they want to pack the courts, they want to abolish the EC, they want minors to vote, they want convicted felons to vote, whatever they can do to give them an edge is just ok with them. By any means necessary.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

I understand Trump wanting to hide the truth - it's an anathema to him. What surprises me more is how many Americans want to enable his con jobs and raping of America for his own benefits. The right used to pretend they were pro-America. Now they've given up trying to even put forth that pretense.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

d probably a lot of somethings to hide.

@bas4 There could be, he’s a businessman,

Hey, if Holder and Lois Lerner didn’t get slammed and shot off to prison Mnuchin won’t.

if I were him, I would make sure the screaming Democrats never see the light of them.

How it's not law, especially for someone who is supposedly as successful as Trump, for a president to not release his returns I don't really get. It seems he's just one big fat conflict of interest for America.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Those tax returns must contain a lot of evidence of criminal activity

..or Maybe not. Guess we will never know.

if all the president's men are so invested in preventing them from seeing the light of day. There's obviously something to hide and probably a lot of somethings to hide.

There could be, he’s a businessman, so I wouldn’t be surprised, but it doesn’t have anything to do with now? And why on Earth after what that man has been through accommodate the Democrats with even more info for them to go after him? That would be stupid, I don’t blame him for not wanting to show it and if I were him, I would make sure the screaming Democrats never see the light of them.

Most corrupt administration ever.

Oh, I doubt that by far.

How about throwing Mnuchin in the slammer for contempt of Congress?

Hey, if Holder and Lois Lerner didn’t get slammed and shot off to prison Mnuchin won’t.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Mnuchin and the GOP are building a firewall around Trump to protect his and their financial interests. They don't want the public to know the many ways each is personally profiting from the Trump era, and also the many ways the corporations they have been part of or own shares in are benefiting from the decisions they make. (Start with big oil and big war industries)

What are Trump, his family (especially Jared and Ivanka), the elite he represents, and those he's added to the DC swamp hiding?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

As Ways and Means chairman, Neal is the only lawmaker in the House of Representatives authorized to request individual tax information under a federal law that says that the Treasury secretary "shall furnish" the data.

Seems pretty clear to me.

All they will show is that Trump doesn't pay tax. He regards paying tax as only something that the poor and stupid do.
