I didn’t follow the case, but if Alito, Gorsuch and Thomas are upset, it’s a good thing.
One is not allowed to bring guns into an NRA convention, nuff said.

Or federal buildings. Or most government buildings.
Stop!Hammertime.
If you're referring to the 2018 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, that was the Secret Service's decision because of scheduled appearances by Pence and Trump. They also banned selfie sticks, backpacks and laser pointers among other things. Other conventions are governed by local laws.

I think the law in question would have been struck down by the court had New York State not "enacted a law permitting people with premises licenses to do the very things these plaintiffs said they wished to do: bring their guns to shooting ranges and competitions outside the city and transport a gun between two homes." and therefore rendered the case moot.

Aren't US soldiers disarmed on their own bases when they are visited by VIPs?
Stop!Hammertime.
Typically, U.S military bases are always gun-free zones, although "(a) 2016 Pentagon rule allows base commanders to permit troops to apply to concealed carry personal weapons on base.
"Base law enforcement officers and military police are permitted to both conceal and open carry guns on base."
