They are basically bait. Serving no purpose in Syria. As for Afghanistan remains to be seen. Leaving 650 troops there is going to be the same as here. They will just be a target and pretext for Taliban to carry on fighting.

A U.S. military spokesman said U.S. forces had responded to the multiple rockets by firing back at the positions in self-defense.

Only Americans would call travelling thousands of miles to invade and bomb a sovereign nation, and then shooting back when that nations resists, "self-defense."

This is apparently what Americans vote for. And yet they ask "why do they hate us?"

Biden administration made the decision to bomb without consideration of the US troops. They decide, people die. And they are not accountable. US troops stationed there must realize what they signed up for and fight for. No excuses not knowing what you are in... because killing is what you signed up for, not protecting your country US but complicit in the atrocities in another country.
