through hundreds of uniformed police officers providing security for their return

I don't know, but somehow this just seems wrong to me! Families, loved one's, ok, cops?

Today's lesson: this is going to happen again and again. One day it might be your teachers. And all because of the cowardly government in fear of the gun taliban.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Clearly the answer to firearm violence is more firearms that are easily available to all.

through hundreds of uniformed police officers providing security for their return

I don't know, but somehow this just seems wrong to me! Families, loved one's, ok, cops?

When the guy living across the street from me was murdered, police stationed an officer at the house the next couple nights. It wasn't necessary, rationally speaking. I'm sure we all understood that whoever did the deed was unlikely to come back. But it made us in the neighborhood feel less anxiety, and so we appreciated it. Sometimes being a police officer isn't about wearing tactical gear and riding around in military vehicles, it's about just being there and showing that they personally care. I don't think that's something that should be condemned.

Besides, as a casual reading of the toxic content flowing out of right-wing circles in the last few years will show, The odds of someone attacking this school again are not zero.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-florida-crime-sandyhook/florida-woman-sentenced-for-threatening-parent-of-sandy-hook-victim-idUSKBN18Y2BY

There are people out there so immersed in right-wing conspiracy theories that they're willing to make threats against people who have lost loved ones in gun violence just because those people spoke their opinions about their experience. We've already seen conspiracy theories about the Douglas High students to try and silence their speaking about gun issues, and we've already seen the NRA publish propaganda calling for right-wing gun fanatics to violently silence people who espouse differing political views:

So while it would be nice to live in a world where police presence is unnecessary at a school where students have returned after an extended recess because of a violent mass murder there, sadly, we don't live in that world yet.

I wish Parkland students well as they return to class today. Not to move forward with their lives is to give in to the shooter. I'm also pleased to learn that students who still don't feel 100% comfortable with a physical return to the high school campus can continue to take the same classes online and stay on track to graduate on time. These students have got it right: it's all about the guns. They also continue to prove that votes are more powerful than guns as they shame adult politicians into doing the right thing. The oldest Generation Zer is now old enough to vote. Just like these young people, we should make our voices heard at the polls. If high school students are brave enough to continue with their lives after facing the barrel of a loaded AR-15, then America's adults should have no problem going to the polls...

The kids have the future. They have shown courage and maturity beyond their years.

The era of the rich angry old bigoted white men is coming to an end. And the kids

already know that there is no place in their world for AR15s.

I don't know if I could go back in there. It'd be really creepy. Very spooky at Halloween.

Sandy Hook and Columbine were both demolished after their massacres, weren't they?

Check out this utter incompetence stemming from ignorance:

*“The police saw that he was a problem, they didn’t take any guns away,” said Trump about the Parkland shooter. “Now that could have been policing, but they should have taken them away anyway, *whether they had the right or not.”

https://www.yahoo.com/news/president-trump-keeps-lawmakers-guessing-gun-meeting-234223042.html

Perhaps Bass or Blacklabel can provide their interpretation services to tell us what Trump actually meant.

The high number of police officers, officials, therapists, are just to help the students take the first vital step back to a life, to a large extent changed forever in so many ways. Many will recover and be able in time to move on but others will fail and mentally wounded for life.

A tragic and sad incident for the 3,500 students and especially for those who witnessed the brutal mass shooting by a former student, or knew those who lost their lives. The fact the killer was a former student makes the recovery cycle that more difficult and longer.

The attention of the students today and the days ahead isn't about their education and learning but instead about how could such a tragic event even be possible, and what can be done to prevent it happening again.

Sadly, that is so more likely than not. The students are planning a march on Washington at the end of the month but the resistance to any change in gun laws has already been expressed by the powerful and rich NRA gun lobby and the congress republicans refusing to increase the gun laws, even for the sake of these students.

It was a sad day for the students and a sad day for society knowing the mass shootings will continue and what will be the next school or campus of learning to have its heart ripped out in such brutal fashions.

Trump said yesterday,

A lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court to get the due process procedures. Take the guns first, go through due process second.

Wow. For once I agree with him. If any danger to society is perceived, remove the means immediately and keep them at bay until safety issues can be resolved. If they are so satisfactorily, the firearms may be returned.

This is not going to go over well in non-Democratic quarters and he will be forced to walk it back 100% soon.

What’s going on is you guys want it both ways. I tell you the constitution won’t allow Trump to do something that’s not in his power to do. you still complain he doesn’t do it anyway, knowing he can’t.

then he says fine, I will do what you want even though I’m not allowed to. Then you say “what a dotard! doesn’t he know that’s against the constitution? Constitutional crisis!”

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Trump won’t ban bump stocks! He doesn’t care about the children! He personally is responsible to dooooo something! Not congress but him.

Trumps says he will ban bump stocks by executive order. “He can’t do that by himself! What a dictator!”

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Frustrating when your team’s tactics are used against you, isn’t it!

We survived eight years of it. I’m sure you can survive three more.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I am sorry but I can confidently foretell that there WILL be another mass shooting in a random place within US territory in six months of time. It amazes me people there all know but haven't done anything about it. Capitalism and liberalism certainly own there. To the kids in Syria and US, you're born in a not very safe place so.. take care.

Blackl: You aren't listening clearly enough of that is what you think we are saying.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

congress won’t pass law to let illegals stay. Obama executive order creates illegal DACA. Yay Obama!

Congress wont pass law to control guns. Trump proposes executive order to just ban bump stocks. The orange dotard is a dictator! congress has to pass a law for that!

What am I missing? Liberals do this every time. Wanted DACA he gave it to you, now don’t want it. Wanted gun control, he trying to give it to you and even fighting NRA and GOP, now you don’t want it.

Now you care if something is illegal or not? You didn’t before as long as it got you what you wanted.

The market is talking today as major retailers say they will stop selling AR-15 type rifles.

Trump is trying to appease both sides of the argument. The Whitehouse and the Insane Party claiming Trump is going to do the exact opposite.

Heh, remember Alabama, Black? November is coming you need to stock up on calories. Eat more gruel or whatever you guys eat in the cold over there :)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I dont know about “you guys” eating gruel or whatever but I’m im Tokyo eating steak, sushi, anything I want.

must be great to have Trump or Russians to blame for everything bad that happens. Just like the Broward sheriff said “it’s not my responsibility” seems to be the go to liberal response for everything.

Oh but how can Dems win the elections in November? Trump has done nothing to prevent “Russians” from rigging it again, right?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

So either Russians will rig it again and Repubs will win every election or nothing was ever rigged in the first place and Trump simply won. Take your pick.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Most people assume the Russians will try to meddle again, and most people assume Trump and his fans will bend over and grab their ankles again.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I don’t hate anyone for their opinion and my own opinion is simply that, not “propaganda”.

If you to ban guns just say so don’t try to hide behind a word salad saying wanting to ban guns isn’t the same as taking guns from legal owners.

I want something but you want it banned. That means if you get your way what you want banned is taken away from me. I’m not allowed to have anything that’s “banned”.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Blacklabel, really? your toys are more important than the lives of children?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

American parents, withdraw your children from their schools NOW! They will be shot up! They sit at their desks every day QUAKING IN FEAR!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The kids have the future. They have shown courage and maturity beyond their years.

They have minus the media that have been pushing some of these kids to say things that they have no clue about.

The era of the rich angry old bigoted white men is coming to an end.

Huh? Are you serious?? So I’m confused, so does that mean in places like Chicago and Oakland the era of the angry Black man is coming to an end?

And the kids already know that there is no place in their world for AR15s

That’s their opinion. Many of us love that gun.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

If you to ban guns just say so don’t try to hide behind a word salad saying wanting to ban guns isn’t the same as taking guns from legal owners.

It’s the same thing, it’s the opening gateway at chipping away the 2nd amendment slowly. You ban the AR-15 then what? There are thousands of guns like the AR-15 and if a crime is committed with a semi-automatic, then we need to ban those as well and on and on and it will never end, this is the danger of banning guns.

I want something but you want it banned. That means if you get your way what you want banned is taken away from me. I’m not allowed to have anything that’s “banned”

Exactly.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

So either Russians will rig it again and Repubs will win every election or nothing was ever rigged in the first place and Trump simply won. Take your pick.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; this is what is known as a false duality.

If you to ban guns just say so don’t try to hide behind a word salad saying wanting to ban guns isn’t the same as taking guns from legal owners.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; this is what's known as a false equivalency.

They have minus the media that have been pushing some of these kids to say things that they have no clue about

You mean like CNN scripting a townhall? You know, something that didn't happen.

Huh? Are you serious?? So I’m confused, so does that mean in places like Chicago and Oakland the era of the angry Black man is coming to an end?

Yes, you are confused. You think rich, angry, bigoted old white men are angry black men.

That’s their opinion. Many of us love that gun.

Many people in the US love cocaine or heroin.

It’s the same thing,

Nope.

it’s the opening gateway at chipping away the 2nd amendment slowly.

The Sexomd Amemdment survived the assault weapons ban.

You ban the AR-15 then what? There are thousands of guns like the AR-15 and if a crime is committed with a semi-automatic, then we need to ban those as well and on and on and it will never end, this is the danger of banning guns.

First, an AR is a semi-automatic. Anyone with rudimentary knowledge of firearms knows this. Second, your slippery slope argument is weak sauce. We have precedent - the assault weapons ban - that demonstrates your slippery slope argument is weak sauce because that ban did not lead to all firearms being band.

. . .

It's amateur hour in the logic department.
