Regarding Hong Kong, I can simply say I admire youngsters like Joshua Wong and Jimmy Sham, so young and putting up a fight with a superpower. Kudos for them. May they be protected. (Though Sham was attacked with hammers weeks ago)

The hooligans are throwing bricks from rooftops onto streets where normal people are simply walking through.

They are insane.

"Communist" agitators.

They are pro-democratic freedom fighters.

The HK government could end all of this with one simple act:

agree to universal suffrage for all citizens of HK to elect ALL members of Legco and to elect the CE, without any vetting of candidates by Beijing.

zones2surf, universal suffrage ? please be mercy to HK people, and to Chinese people. Is it not enough to have violences every day ?

I don’t see a happy ending here. The Chinese Communist Party would rather burn Hong Kong to the ground than give Hong Kongers democratic self-rule under Chinese sovereignty.

Hong Kong became what it is, financially, politically and socially, when it was under British administration on a 99-year lease, 1898-1997. From the day it was returned to China 7/1/1997, it was only a matter of time before China would try to completely assimilate Hong Kong and erase the 1898-1997 legacy. It does not matter if it takes 2, 20, or 200 years: it will happen, unless Hong Kong becomes a sovereign state independent from China and I don't see that happening.

This is really getting out of hand now, what started as something positive is now turned in a mob style catastrophe. They’re making it easier for China to come in and justifiably squash these out of control mob agitators.

I have no idea what you are trying to say. Are you trying to saying that democracy / universal suffrage would cause huge problems in Hong Kong?

Look at the pictures and the videos, everybody is laughing like it's some wild party as they psychos throw bricks onto the streets below and even launch them with makeshift catapults into occupied buildings.

Better than pro-Beijing psychos trying to justify China's part in trying to crush the Hong Kong people and democracy.

The chaos in HK exposes the rotten underbelly of anti-democratic power politics when arrogant rulers turn a deaf ear to the thunderous voice of the people and refuse to meet the simple DEMANDS of millions of citizens. Such cruel, craven politicians hiding their cowardly ambitions and personal interests behind the police and army deserve no sympathy and no mercy.

My pray goes to all Hong Kong policeman and woman! To all those front line people who serve with great risks and their families were in uneasy!  My salute to all of you heros! This is not a protesting, this is a "Coup"!

@ Akie

How about these for pro-democracy freedom fighters?

Following a young woman down the street, throwing her to the ground and beating her with metal pipes. All very brave.

I can clearly hear 'don't hit' in Cantonese repeatedly from protesters, and a number of protesters shielded the girl. Context and more details in order here. There is also faint words about 'get out' in Mandarin.

IMHO, the pic might be a clear case of a beating on an innocent girl, but the sounds says the protesters were trying to protect her.

HK will never be the same again, Lam stoked the fear into the people of HK, she is still on the 'suppression' mantra. China has publicly backed her. I don't think this is a situation that can be resolved without massive sacrifices.

If you compare this to the NBA suppression, and not just NBA as Communist China has form when it comes to suppression and punishment. The situation in HK is probably a thousand times worse because this is not just free speech, it's their entire way of life that Lam wants to destroy.

Yeah. And PLA wimps snipe teen age girls from mountaintops as they try and cross into Tibet. There are plenty of goons and trolls to go around anywhere on Earth. Using a few of them to smear an entire movement is not exactly a courageous thing either.

They were not just a few, they were in dozens! These hard core troublemakers were influencing other people to commit crimes! This chaos in Hong Kong is no protesting but a "Coup"!

China denies interfering in Hong Kong's affairs yet the police all follow the Chinese para-military way. hmmmm, plus they won't allow an ELECTED leader vs Bejing Appointee, and lastly can't follow the agreed system upon the return of HK to China. HK should have stayed under British rule.

I just can't believe, with all the experts under Lam's control, not a single one of them know how to de-escalate.

Hint Mrs Lam - police (attack dogs) carrying and discharging side arms can only lead to intense escalation, because you've escalated from mere suppression of free speech to potential death.
