The title should be everything you need to read. Let's show the President exactly what we think about this in Nov.

23 ( +28 / -5 )

If I didn't know better, I'd think that this was an article about some banana republic.

23 ( +26 / -3 )

Of course he does.

Donald Trump knows, deep down in the little piece of honesty he has that he can't drown out through sycophants, or choke off through cheeseburgers, that he's losing. That all his insecurities are true. The people don't like him. They don't approve of him. That if the people actually speak, he will lose.

So he's doing everything he can to try and prevent that. Despite multiple studies showing that Trump's BS claim of massive mail-in fraud is nothing but a gigantic lie, he's going to push the lie to try and assuage his ego and insecurities.

More importantly, he's going to try and block the voice of the people. He's going to do whatever he can so that the voice of ALL the people is ignored, and the voice of only fearful jingoistic white racists is heard. He's going to try and replicate his shenanigans of Electoral College Gerry mandering, and then claiming a huge mandate from 'the people.' Despite the fact that, if this happened, it would be the 8th out of the last 9 Presidential elections where the Democratic candidate wins more votes and has a louder voice of the people than the Republican candidate (the only Republican popular vote winner being GWB in 2004).

But Donald's wrong. His gambit is not going to work, because the people are on to his con job. People are aware that this particular aspirant emperor has no clothes, has never had clothes, and never will have clothes. And come November 3, he will find himself facing roughly 3 months of being the lamest of lame ducks before being summarily dismissed to the trash heap of American political history, which is exactly where he belongs.

"How maybe times we have to say this? Absentee voting by a voter requesting a ballot in advance is not the same as every single person on some list being sent a ballot."

How many times do I have to say this? The only people who receive a mail in ballot are registered voters. Period. The ballots are mailed to a specific registered voter and the voter has to sign the ballot for it to be counted. Moreover the signatures on the ballot are compared to the voters signature on file on their voter registration card. It is no easier or more likely to vote fraudulently by mail than it is by person. You still have to be a previously registered voter with a signature on file. You are lying to say otherwise.

20 ( +23 / -3 )

Day by day, the despot destroys America's democracy. I'd feel sorry for Americans, but I can't. It's up to them to right the wrong.

18 ( +25 / -7 )

You smell that? Smells like voter suppression.

17 ( +20 / -3 )

The great democracy that is America.

14 ( +20 / -6 )

I will say that as detestable as it is, it might be the only time in the past 3 1/2 years he has told the unvarnished truth about his motives.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Mail in ballots are ripe with fraud

No they're not. There may be slightly higher risk, but not much.

14 ( +19 / -5 )

Ah, good old voter suppression.

How desperate is this wannabe dictator? The American people are more clever than Trump thinks. They'll see through his attempts to steal the elections.

13 ( +19 / -6 )

New Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who has donated $2.7 million to Trump and his fellow Republicans since 2017, has ordered operational changes and a clampdown on overtime in a bid to fix the financially troubled Postal Service, which reported a net loss of $2.2 billion in the last quarter.

The deliberate undermining and planned destruction of America greatest public service was initiated in 2006 by the Republicans under G.W.Bush when he signed into law the so-called PAEA Act which bizarrely compelled the USPS to pay in advance for the health and retirement benefits of all of its employees for the following 50 years!!??

No wonder then that between 2007 and 2016, the USPS lost $62.4 billion; the inspector general of the USPS estimated that $54.8 billion of that was due to prefunding retiree benefits. Its big losses have been driven by a sharp increase in expenses, primarily workers' compensation costs, pension liabilities, and payments for retirees' health benefits. For the fiscal year that ended on September 30, 2018, the Postal Service recorded a then-record loss of $3.9 billion. Is there any other example of such an egregious attack on a great public institution?

Trump's latest attack on the USPS is just a continuation of the Republican privatization methods in their madness to hold on to power, now by sabotaging "free and fair" elections. Trump's latest desperate stunt to remain in power will not fly. No pasarán!

12 ( +16 / -4 )

Also, kinda weird that Trump supporters complain that mail in votes will take a while to count while simultaneously trying to destroy the USPS's ability to function.

Seems that you are creating the problem you are complaining about.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

in a bid to block more Americans from voting by mail during the pandemic.

In 2016 Trump supporters bought the Republicans and others in the global far right's messages that Trump would be the champion of the underdog, would take on the 'elite' 'establishment' for the benefit of those at the margins of society.

Now many of those same Trump supporters are cheering Trump on for being the uber hund championing the 'elite' 'establishment' and leaving those at the margins of society with wafts of trickle down mists.

Why anyone not in the 'elite' 'establishment' would support Trump is beyond me.

11 ( +18 / -7 )

It also won't make a difference one way or the other in terms of who chooses to vote by mail. It will slow delivery and thus the counting of ballots but won't prevent voting by mail. Donald Trump is not a very smart individual if he thinks it will.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

"are there not people who are "registered" to vote who shouldnt be registered? Like illegal aliens who were automatically registered when they were given a drivers license? people who have moved to a new address? people who have passed away?"

There is no difference in the requirements to register to vote if it is done at a a county office, public library or at the DMV. When you obtain a license or state ID card you have to prove legal residency and a thumb print and photograph are taken. Even if I receive a ballot for someone who lived at my address say once upon a time (not possible where I live as we built this house on a new street) I can't forge their signature and the ballot would be rejected for signature mismatch. The National Conference of State Legislatures website lists the requirements for each state for a mail in ballot to be counted.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Absentee balloting and mail in balloting are the same thing. There is virtually zero drum-person voter fraud and mail in voter fraud is even less common since there are multiple safeguards that are not present in in-person voting.

this is voter suppression pure and simple. The attempts to spin it here (Moderaters, how about moderating something Apart from my posts And/or shutting down the comments section like you did on the vote survey yesterday after a whopping FIFTEEN comments.) are pathetic.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Seems that you are creating the problem you are complaining about.

Indeed they are. This is a common practice amongst conservatives. Let's break any system or refund any service we don't like until it fails and then claim the government is ineffective and can't be trusted. It's called "starving the beast "

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beast

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Mail-in votes open to fraud. There's no way to verify identification.

They verify signatures match the ones of file before allowing a vote to be counted.

Judge orders Trump campaign to produce evidence of voter fraud in Pennsylvania

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/13/politics/trump-campaign-voter-fraud-lawsuit-pennsylvania/index.html

A federal judge in Pennsylvania told the Trump campaign and the Republican Party that they must produce evidence they have of vote-by-mail fraud in the state by Friday.

The judge's order, in a high-profile case about vote-by-mail in the battleground state, essentially forces the Trump campaign to try to back up President Donald Trump's false claims about massive voter fraud in postal voting.

(Snip)

Time to put up or shut up

7 ( +10 / -3 )

According to CNN, a federal judge has ordered the Trump campaign and the Republican party to produce evidence of vote-by-mail fraud. The federal judge is Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan, a Trump appointee.

Put up or shut up?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This is TREASON plain & simple, trump needs to be REMOVED form office NOW!!

6 ( +11 / -5 )

I hope that when Biden wins, he will not pardon Trump for all the past crimes! I want to see Trump prosecuted and sent to prison for many years and be known as a convict for the rest of his life...

6 ( +7 / -1 )

"In recent state primary voting, runoff voting, and special elections there have been thousands of ballots sent to deceased people, people who have moved out of a state and received a mail in ballot from their former state making it possible for them to vote in two states, and people have even received mail in ballots addressed to their pets"

That is factually incorrect. Every state compares signatures on mail in ballots to the signature shown on each voter's registration paperwork. If the signatures don't match, the ballot is rejected. Some states have multiple judges or referees, each from a different political party making the call on whether a ballot signature matches or not and whether the ballot should be rejected. The ballots are not even opened until signatures are verified. That wold rule out pets voting, lol. And there is no way a pet would even receive a ballot because you have to first be a registered voter. One has to show proof of legal residence, be photographed and finger (paw?) printed. It is laughable to say a pet received a ballot. Show us documented examples of this happening. Not heresay, but documented examples. There is a case of a dead cat being sent a voter registration request form but having received that there is nothing one could do with it. Even on line applications reference your DMV signature and other DMV information. I doubt the cat had a drivers license. The recipient could use it to register themselves but only if they were not already registered to vote. Trying to register twice is a serious felony with a five year prison sentence. NY disqualified 84,000 mail in ballots for the June primary election.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Black:. Gov. Gavin Newsom signs bill sending mail ballot to every active California voter

Sending a ballot to every registrated voter? How outrageous.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

In regards to mail in ballots, President Trump has stated several times that he supports absentee ballots,

Fact check:

Mail in ballots and absentee ballots are two different names for THE SAME THING. Just like the unlettered Trump's mind-boggling claim that WW2 ended in 1917 because all the soldiers caught "Spanish Flu", he got this one wrong, too.

however, he is dead set against mail in voting. Mail in ballots are ripe with fraud.

There is zero proof for this, likewise for ALL his claims of voting irregularities, such as ballots from "dead souls" and dogs, and "millions" of people voting twice or several times (for Democrats, natch).

This kind of misinformation is a disservice to democracy and unworthy of a people who consider themselves "free" to cast a ballot.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

This isn't voter suppression, and it's utterly disingenuous to claim otherwise. Typical Democrat smear attempt.

Not a Democrat. Am part of the international community who is shocked at how low the Trump machine will stoop.

It's so blatant now, the lying and devious tactics.

If the dear leader claimed that the moon is made of cheese, the faithful would be clamouring for a slice.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Black: How do you know that your ballot isnt going to be thrown out or that someone wont just throw out only the Biden votes?

Trump seemed fine mailing his ballot in. Why not ask him?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I've often heard this mindless, predigested accusation, "the Democrats really hate America.." Learned as children, Conservatives repeat it to their grandchildren. Generational humbug used to to silence those who want constructive change.

I'd like to ask how much Trump loves the United States. My coclusion in this short posting is that Trump does not love America. He does not love the people living in America. He does not love anyone. And this is a terrible person to have in charge during a pandemic. He wants to stifle the pandemic bill because it contains a necessary item, voting by mail. Trump fears this provision because he fears he will lose. A president who truly loves his country would say, "Anything that saves lives and the democratic process must stay it. It is more important than winning the election."

5 ( +7 / -2 )

There you go.

Excellent. 10,000 accidentally registered to vote out of 13,000,000.

Good luck in court.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Huh? So he wants more people to come to harm by cutting funding, then reduce voting so he can be elected to continue to bring people to more harm.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

if prominent black leaders push Biden to pick a woman, a woman of color and a black woman, how is that democracy?

Democracy happens when the people vote on whether the 'candidate' is the person they want as the (vice) president.

So to answer your question, it's democracy, because the DNC needs to put up a 'candidate' for the people to elect.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

That’ll kill two birds with one stone!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Out of curiosity, how will Americans stuck here in Japan vote?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Blocking people from voting, wow!

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Another mind boggling move by the current occupant of the White House.

One more confirmation he is not fit to be President of the United Sates of America (POTUS).

4 ( +8 / -4 )

@Bass4funk

nice ‘democracy’ you got there! (°_°)

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The headline is shocking. It is very shocking. It was so shocking that I had to read this article twice.

The first paragraph summarizes what is most important: "President Donald Trump said on Thursday he was blocking Democrats' effort to include funds for the U.S. Postal Service and election infrastructure in a new coronavirus relief bill, in a bid to block more Americans from voting by mail during the pandemic." It is more subdued than the headline. As is the equally more subdued article. Yet, reading it carefully it is as shocking as the headline.

Trump is holding up the coronavirus bill in order to kill mail-in voting. This is a form of political blackmail. We won't give you A unless you give up B. Both aid and mail-in voting are necessary during the pandemic. Trump is doing this because he is afraid he'll lose through mail-in voting. Thus, he is will to sacrifice the lives of thousands of his fellow citizens to win the election by eliminating his fellow citizens either through death or disenfranchisement.

I've never seen anything anything this horrid.

A side note. A noted scholar wrote that this is the first time ever the world is feeling pity for the United States. One cannot, however, feel pity for the monster in charge who has made the pandemic worse than it had to be.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Bass:. So then you can make the counter argument of the Dems in their attempts to try and get Texas, Ohio and Florida..

Uh, OK? I guess so?

Nice talking with you.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

According to Trump, millions of illegals voted in the last election who, if removed from the count, meant he won the popular vote.

Did he get to the bottom of this? If not, why not?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Absentee ballots are compared to registered addresses. In my case I had to scan my DL for ID. Verious states use different paper types, different forms with different formats. The ballots have bar codes. The signature is compared to signatures on file.

AND...... Massive voter fraud would require a conspiracy of silence on a massive scale. Both Republicans and Democrats would both have to wink and look the other way By the thousands AND keep their mouths shut about it.

The baseless Q Anon conspiracy is more credible than the idea of mail in voter fraud.

Trump is melting down because in a remotely free and fair election, he loses and loses HUGE. Cheating is the ONLY way he can win.

You have already posted six times on this thread when one would be enough. Readers, we ask that you do not become obsessed with U.S. political topics.

Some people will post a lot more than just six times before you shut down this thread like you shut down all the other ones on US politics. Is it because of these people that you keep closing the threads?

Shut the nutters down not the threads.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The democrat party, and their operatives, would prefer that ballots be mass shipped to neighborhoods where those ballots may be filled in by ballot thieves, illegal aliens, felons, and other non-eligible voters.

The usual boogeymen. Why not throw Marxists in there too?

Ther is no evidence of mail in voting fraud. Your President has used it. And the most likely people to attempt voter fraud are Republicans, with their penchant for criminality and voter suppression.

We all know what is going on here. Trump is trying to get less people to vote, and then setting himself up to contest his crushing defeat. It's that simple and transparent to people with an ounce of nous.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

If you want real democracy, you uphold and support our laws regarding illegal voting-period.

Trump uncovered millions of illegal votes in the last election.

Why didn’t he pursue this and root it out? Surely that is a huge failure on his part.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

What’s the bet the vast majority of punters here arguing back n forth about whether mail in voting is valid/possible/impossible/etc are white.

Black and brown folk in US have experienced voter suppression for ages! In your so called ‘democracy’, every election is rigged, every vote (especially if you’re brown or black, bc they will mostly vote blue) is in danger of being thrown out.

Your ‘democratic’ voting system is one of the worst in the world!! Tuesday?!?!

And this tinpot dictator has bust the scam wide open, he doesn’t even feel the need to dog whistle any more, he just announces the next illegal/immoral/unconstitutional thing he wants to do, and ‘ya’ll’ just go into a lather about it!

Pffft... better off without ya’ll

3 ( +7 / -4 )

As one hand gives the other takes away. What were you cheering about the other day black, bass and serrano? You really believed he was helping the American people. Sad.

He’s quaking now and will just become more and more desperate over the coming weeks. Buckle up.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Not a surprise that trump, a confederate supporter, wants to disenfranchise Black and Minority voters once again.

Voter suppression, racist challenges to minority candidates, demonizing minorities ....

Seems like the civil rights that the blacks and minorities gained in the 20th century are being taken back in the 21st.

Shameful!!!!

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Not sure why we are debating about California, a solid blue state that Trump has no chance of winning. If the Dems are up to no good, why not go for Michigan, Ohio, or Pennsylvania?

The conservative narrative as it appears to me is to cheat in a state they have no chance of losing.

Makes no sense, but then again Trump supporters are meant to repeat narratives, not explain them.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

You know these claims about mail in voting fraud are bogus because if they were true Trump would be encouraging his supporters to exploit them.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump taking lessons from Russia and China.

I think having a moron for a President says more about the nuppties that vote for such a low life.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

. Anyone who supports him on this does not support Democracy, or the nation of the US. Period.

That's been apparent since the election. Recall many Trump supporters (US and 'foreign') have said all along they want Trump to take down the system. Remember many of them have lauded Putin. Look at the disdain many of them show for their 'fellow' Americans. Remember, 'I'd rather be Russian than Democrat'. Trump supporters favor national socialism, a system where the dictator decides which corporations profit, which ethnic group prevails.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The Democrats really hate America...

The country is on the verge of civil war, and that's the best response to voter suppression and outright, blatant lies?

2 ( +7 / -5 )

You have already posted six times on this thread when one would be enough. Readers, we ask that you do not become obsessed with U.S. political topics.

9 posts, and counting.

Tell you what, I'm going to dive out of this thread. Let's see if he can do the honorable thing as well and call it a day, because it seems we're all going around in circles...

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Trump is killing American citizens to try and keep power.

This needs to be condemned by every nation on earth.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Trump the dictator. Anyone who supports him on this does not support Democracy, or the nation of the US. Period. The posters on here who support him here will change their handles the day he loses, just like they did before.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

cough umm btw... absentee ballots are only ever included in a vote count if the total number of mailed-in ballots exceeds the margin of victory between candidates. Just saying.

Trump stated his position on COVID Aid and Mail in Voting weeks ago. The fact that a Democrat majority house would still conflate the two issues into one bill tells me who is wasting everyone's time. And Republican Mitch Mcconnell is a clown too for thinking that he can pressure the House by saying the Senate is going home in September. If there is one place that electronically mail in vote could effectively be implemented, it would the Congress! No excuse for these clowns to try and get out of a vote.

Also, no mention in the "article" that the bill only appropriates money for mailed-in ballots processing, but no verification. (US ballots are normally signed and that signature is verified against a voter registration card signature.) That is right, all that are received are to be counted IAW the bill. Patricia and David forgot that little gem. Not that JT researched any of that.

And for you JT, your reporting is minimalist, normally incomplete, gained by other sources, presumptive, conjecture in nature, and biased... it is a poor product.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Thats why California had to pass a special law to allow it, right before the election, and only for 2020 election.

We have had Pandemics before, but we've never had one so badly screwed up by a president in an election year. Hence the new law. Hats off to Gavin Newsom and the state of California. Imagine your political platform being so morally objectionable that you have to try and suppress the vote.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Absentee or mail-in ballots; it doesn't matter, since mail from Japan to the U.S. has all but completely been shut down because of the Corona Virus. I was lucky in that I was able to mail in my U.S. tax forms just before the stoppage to mail being sent to the U.S. Since about April, I've been rejected by the Japan Postal office workers in sending anything (even documents) home. They won't even allow you to send anything through EMS. Nothing.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

So then you can make the counter argument of the Dems in their attempts to try and get Texas, Ohio and Florida.

Florida? These would be the coastal elites the Trump packs are railing against, right?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

This is all great. Yet 20% of the mail in ballots in NY were called invalid and not counted.

There can be fraud in the returning of ballots by ineligible voters. but there is also fraud in deciding what ballots to count and which ones to throw out.

Is no one curious why 20% of the ballots have been called invalid in both NY and NJ elections? were these fraud attempts? or 20% of the people forgot to sign them? (unlikely)

How do you know that your ballot isnt going to be thrown out or that someone wont just throw out only the Biden votes? Counting process after receipt is fraud too.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

If they posted a 2.2 billion dollar loss throwing money at the postal service is a waste of tax payer money.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

You know, you really want to believe that the “Media” (television included) is “Fair, Just, Unbiased, but when ONE of a half dozen “Networks” DON’T even BOTHER to televise a Live Press Conference from a standing president, but IMMEDIATELY AFTER start tearing apart everything discussed IN the press conference, you have confirmed you no longer have un unbiased “News Media”.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

The Democrats really hate America...

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Mass mail in as opposed to absentee.  Two different things.  Former is susceptible to fraud and long delays in counting.  This has nothing to do with voter suppression - everyone in the US has id (needed to buy booze and so many other things) and can therefore apply for absentee ballot or go to polling stations.  This whole debate is typical of the ill informed rubbish that US political discourse has become.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

A federal judge in Pennsylvania told the Trump campaign and the Republican Party that they must produce evidence they have of vote-by-mail fraud in the state by Friday.

Makes perfect sense why Democrats would. It's a East Coast version of California liberal echo chamber.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Not sure why we are debating about California, a solid blue state that Trump has no chance of winning

It's going to take decades to turn nutty California Red again.

Kamala's running mate just called for mandating masks for everyone in the country for at least the next three months. And they call Trump a dictator.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

The great democracy that is America.

America is not a direct democracy, it's a representative republic. Hence the electoral college. Referring to it as a democracy muddles the waters because it implies it's a true democracy, but it never has been.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Excellent. 10,000 accidentally registered to vote out of 13,000,000.

That's kind of a big accident...oops!

Good luck in court.

Luck has got nothing to do with it.

Trump the dictator. Anyone who supports him on this does not support Democracy, or the nation of the US. Period. The posters on here who support him here will change their handles the day he loses, just like they did before.

So if prominent black leaders push Biden to pick a woman, a woman of color and a black woman, how is that democracy? Shouldn't the best qualified person be given the opportunity? As far as Biden winning, not sure if what he did is a winning strategy. Harris is politically toxic, she didn't even finish the debate, she dropped out, she didn't resonate with black voters, Biden lost twice, he didn't resonate with voters as well. If you want real democracy, you uphold and support our laws regarding illegal voting-period. If Trump were a dictator he would just anoint himself as King, hasn't happened and never will.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

No, it's the liberal elites that are sadly banking to get the two as if they could in the way that California, the richest liberal State by far get in trying to turn the blue State.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

Trump has been railing against mail-in ballots for months as a possible source of fraud, although millions of Americans - including much of the military - have cast absentee ballots by mail for years without such problems.

This article by Patricia Zengerle and David Morgan is nothing more than a blatant political attempt to muddy the waters, and confuse foreigners and U.S. voters. Absentee ballots are NOT the same thing as the "mail-in voting" being proposed by Democrat Party operatives. Legal voters in the U.S. can request that they be supplied with an absentee ballot. The ballot is then delivered to a known, legally eligible, voter. The democrat party, and their operatives, would prefer that ballots be mass shipped to neighborhoods where those ballots may be filled in by ballot thieves, illegal aliens, felons, and other non-eligible voters. The democrat party's new voting system can result in massive fraud by persons attempting to manipulate the results of an election. The democrats would prefer that everyone in the world be allowed to vote in U.S. elections.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Any event this is academic.  Once voters get to see how decrepit Biden is and how insincere Harris is my guess is that even Trump hatred will pale into insignificance.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Not sure why we are debating about California, a solid blue state that Trump has no chance of winning. If the Dems are up to no good, why not go for Michigan, Ohio, or Pennsylvania?

So then you can make the counter argument of the Dems in their attempts to try and get Texas, Ohio and Florida.

The conservative narrative as it appears to me is to cheat in a state they have no chance of losing.

According to the history of California and the liberalist of publications in that State, they admit it voter fraud. Liberals can try and be sneaky all they want about this, but when the liberal press in a blue State makes that admission, you know it's about cheating and winning and nothing to do with race, case in point. Obama would have never won twice if there were anything near voter suppression, a whopping 92% of blacks voted for the guy.

Makes no sense,

I agree, no need for that senseless argument, this has nothing to do with blacks and everything to do with illegal aliens, let's not kid ourselves here.

Is it true that in Japan a voting card with the voter's name and address is mailed to the voter's registered residence and that card must be presented at the voting area in order to receive a ballot in Japan? If the answer is yes, then that is equivalent to absentee voting in the USA. Is it true that a relative can take the recently deceased grandmother's voting card to the voting area and vote for her? If the answer is yes, then that is equivalent to mail-in ballots. In addition, are there any illegal aliens in Japan? If the answer is yes, then that is equivalent to mail-in ballots. According to law, a voter must be a US citizen to vote. People with green cards cannot vote, but they will be able to vote with mail-in ballots that may have been completed by another person.

Just because a person hates the president doesn't me that person has the right to illegal elect the opponent.

And another thing about the left's claims of so-called voter suppression: Do you think that the minorities you claim to represent/defend are not capable of taking responsibility for themselves in getting out to vote or registering for an absentee ballot?

This phoney concern simply masks what you really think: that minorities aren't capable of figuring it out for themselves, and need your guiding hand to ensure they vote properly - i.e. for your preferred candidate.

Just another example of the left's discrimination by low expectations.

So what he has done is to block funds for USPS in the corona virus relief bill, and not blocking the corona virus aid as such, just another radical left narrative based fake headline. Trump should change his strategy and welcome mail-in voting, rest assured the radical left will immediately call to block mail-in ballots.

nice deflection from "they arent sending ballots..... just applications".

We do not send ballots by mail to every registered voter. Never have, it is and has been illegal to do so.

Thats why California had to pass a special law to allow it, right before the election, and only for 2020 election.

yes, shocking.

Mmm. Shocking.

Oh wait. They're letting people vote?

And people think he is retarded? He will win with this tactic, like bush with the swinging/hanging thingy.

My bottom line: Continue with in-person and absentee ballot voting, and for Pete’s sake, enact voter ID laws. For the life of me I cannot understand why I am required to present identification for almost every in-person financial, medical, travel, government-related, etc. transaction, but for voting we are not.

Bingo, spot on!

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

This isn't voter suppression, and it's utterly disingenuous to claim otherwise. Typical Democrat smear attempt.

The existing system of absentee voting is already a workable solution to this crisis, whereas mail-in is highly susceptible to fraud. If people can't be bothered to organise an absentee vote before the election, they're not going to be thinking that hard about the value of their vote anyway.

Out of curiosity, how will Americans stuck here in Japan vote?

Going to the Embassy or Consulate in person and vote by absentee.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signs bill sending mail ballot to every active California voter

California will take the unprecedented step of mailing a ballot to every active registered voter this fall after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Thursday intended to protect the November election against potential disruption by the coronavirus pandemic.

AB860 will also require county officials to count any ballot that is received within 17 days of the election, as long as it’s postmarked by election day. That’s two weeks longer than under current law, which sets a cutoff of the Friday after the election.

Several posters have stated something along the lines of “mail in ballots will be fraud checked by comparing the signatures on the ballot vs the voter’s signature when he/she registered.” Do you really believe that every mail in ballot will be meticulously verified? Are you kidding or what?

Each state has their own voter registration and voting protocols. Every state in the Union has an absentee ballot process requiring the voter to “request” an absentee ballot if he/she chooses to vote via that method for whatever reason (military living out of state or deployed, health considerations, expatriate living overseas, etc.). The absentee ballot voting process is extremely secure, first and foremost, because the voter has to actively request the absentee ballot. When the voter signs their absentee ballot request form their state files that signed form and uses it for signature verification after you mail in the actual absentee ballot. If the signatures don’t match then the absentee ballot is disregarded. I used absentee ballot voting several times when I was stationed in Japan 1995-2005.

Pre-COVID-19 there were only five states that allowed mail in ballots in addition to absentee ballots; Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. These states (arguably) have a secure mature verification process, better known as “curing.” We only have a little over two months until Election Day. Let’s say for example 50,000,000 Americans vote with mail in ballots. Do you really believe the other 45 states will be able to create a simple functioning curing process in time to accurately count 50,000,000+ mail in ballots? I am highly doubtful. At best, I anticipate actual election results taking weeks, if not months, to tabulate with numerous contested elections. It will be chaos, for sure.

My bottom line: Continue with in-person and absentee ballot voting, and for Pete’s sake, enact voter ID laws. For the life of me I cannot understand why I am required to present identification for almost every in-person financial, medical, travel, government-related, etc. transaction, but for voting we are not.

As long as mail in voting is allowed, the potential for fraud remains high, very high and why would it not. There is no way you can verify the individual. They could send a ballot of my deceased mother or deceased dog which is happening, there is zero verification whatsoever. What's really funny is, if voter fraud would help Republicans every single Democrat would ask for voter ID, every single one of them because then that would mean illegals would have zero chance of voting, in Arizona police aren't even allowed to ask illegals for ID. But if they would ask me, why?

Mail-in votes open to fraud. There's no way to verify identification. It's only normal that Trump would want to protect himself.

More than 23,000 Californians were registered to vote incorrectly by state DMV

Leads to this:

Did non-citizens vote last year? California officials still can’t say

https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article223886630.html

41% of registered voters didnt vote in 2016, not much different from any other year. So why spend billions of dollars to send them ballots?

21% of Americans are not registered to vote. mostly because they dont want to.

Forty-four percent of eligible unregistered individuals say they do not want to vote. Another 27 percent say they intend to register but haven’t done so yet, and 25 percent say they are unregistered because they have not been inspired by a candidate or issue. Eleven percent do not want to register due to privacy or security reasons.

-15 ( +5 / -20 )

so when do you expect us to have elections results if all registered voters are sent ballots?

In several months. The Democrats seem fine with this.

It also won't make a difference one way or the other in terms of who chooses to vote by mail. It will slow delivery and thus the counting of ballots but won't prevent voting by mail. Donald Trump is not a very smart individual if he thinks it will.

He doesn't think that. He thinks there are going to be a bunch of fraudulent votes for Harris-Biden, which there no doubt will be. Why do you think the Democrats are pushing so hard for it? It's not rocket science.

-17 ( +3 / -20 )

How maybe times we have to say this? Absentee voting by a voter requesting a ballot in advance is not the same as every single person on some list being sent a ballot.

although millions of Americans - including much of the military - have cast absentee ballots by mail for years without such problems.

-18 ( +8 / -26 )

The absentee voting program already exists for anyone who wishes to vote but can’t go in person.

-18 ( +3 / -21 )

so when do you expect us to have elections results if all registered voters are sent ballots?

Takes a month to process and count, minimum. Then the recounts. Then the lawsuits, do you think Biden has 600 lawyers for this for no reason? We might know who won in 2023?

Look at New York, some races more than a month ago, we have no idea who really won and never will. 20% of ballots were rejected. Was this fraud or error that made them rejected? Thats the voter suppression, when you do vote and yet its thrown out as invalid anyway.

Its not voter suppression when people who have no intention to vote are not proactively sent a ballot.

Democrats have cried foul, accusing Trump and his party of trying to make it harder for Americans to vote

BS! We've had early voting and absentee balloting since forever, suddenly it's "hard for Americans to vote" if we don't have this new universal mail-in voting. BS!

as experts said concern about catching COVID-19 could keep up to half of the electorate away from the polls.

So many people have been cowered and frightened by this virus, mainly because of feckless politicians and the feckless media.

"Pure Trump. He doesn't want an election," Biden said

Oh, is that what Joe's handlers told him to say? No, Trump wants an election, but he wants a fair one.

-18 ( +6 / -24 )

Blacklabel, you are absolutely correct. I know I’ll probably receive gazillions of negative votes from the readers here, but who cares. There are several reasons why President Trump might veto the bill. In regards to mail in ballots, President Trump has stated several times that he supports absentee ballots, however, he is dead set against mail in voting. Mail in ballots are ripe with fraud. In recent state primary voting, runoff voting, and special elections there have been thousands of ballots sent to deceased people, people who have moved out of a state and received a mail in ballot from their former state making it possible for them to vote in two states, and people have even received mail in ballots addressed to their pets. Furthermore, these mail in ballots do not need to be witnessed nor do they need to be notarized. If a postal worker accidentally placed your mail in ballot in my mail box I could steal your vote by selecting the candidates of my choice and mailing the ballot back since there’s no identification verification.

The largest reason that President Trump will likely veto the bill is the Democratic Party’s insistence to include billions and billions of dollars funding to prop up failing multi-decades long Democratic Party-led cities and states with budget and long term public pension fund deficits which in a state like California, New York, and Illinois which have actual unfunded liabilities of hundreds of billions, if not, trillions of dollars. Why should fiscally sound mostly Republican Party led states have their citizens’ federal payroll tax dollars used to bail out horribly governed Democratic Party led states?

-19 ( +5 / -24 )

are there not people who are "registered" to vote who shouldnt be registered? Like illegal aliens who were automatically registered when they were given a drivers license? people who have moved to a new address? people who have passed away?

Why would we send ballots to people who show no intention to vote. What percent of registered voters actually vote? If you intend to vote you can request absentee.

You still have to be a previously registered voter with a signature on file. You are lying to say otherwise.

6 weeks later, we dont know who won in New York, where 20% of mail in ballots were discarded.

They finally said Maloney won,but the other person went to court and wont concede.

He was correct as now a judge ruled some disputed ballots must be counted. this election was on 23 JUNE. Still no resolution even near.
