Congress has for too long allowed the Executive Branch to usurp the powers granted the Legislative Branch by the US Constitution. That division of power is essential to preventing the creation of an all powerful, dictatorial, Executive Branch. Only Congress can appropriate money or determine taxes so expect many of these executive orders to ruled illegal by the courts.

Looks like a desperate Don's attempt to make a down payment on his reelection and get extra points for his presidential stay-out-of-jail free card.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

"This is the money they need, this is the money they want, this gives them an incentive to go back to work,"

They, they, them aka the 'others'. The self-appointed emperor prides himself on throwing crumbs to the 'them'.

During the Trump era centi-billionaires are adding to their fortunes while so many Americans struggle to just feed themselves and keep from losing their homes, struggle much harder than they did before Trump was elected.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Congress has the power of the purse, not Trump. And his $400 a week unemployment insurance asks for the states to pay $100 of it.

It’s the kind of ploy the “Trump foundation” would employ.

These are the desperate flailing of a dictator who knows his grasp on power is slipping.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Oh, btw, if you re-elect me, you don’t have to pay it back. If you elect Biden, I don’t know. Corruption personified. Don’s gonna con.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

During the Trump era centi-billionaires are adding to their fortunes while so many Americans struggle to just feed themselves and keep from losing their homes, struggle much harder than they did before Trump was elected.

Yeah, but you’ll never get rid of the job creators, but anyway, great news that Trump intervened since Congress can’t seem to do squat. Give credit where credit is due.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

Will never judge something on it merit? These orders help the people who Dem congress is playing politics with.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

These orders help the people who Dem congress is playing politics with.

Exactly. The riders the Dems wanted to push through on this bill were disgraceful. When will these people wake up? Daily barely veiled propaganda against Trump from large media outlets seems to have conditioned people to completely override logic.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

In a bizarre twist, I actually agree with @Blacklabel. People need this support. Congress is using them as a political football. For once in his life the malignant narcissist has done the right thing. For reasons of the coming election, probably, but the main point is, people need this support, and now.

Regardless, he’ll be shown the door come November.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Sheer madness. I hope this blows up their faces. Yes, relief is needed, but this is unconstitutional. Power to tax and fund is Article 1, Congressional. Where does Trump get authority to hand out unemployment comp without a legislative authorization? If he defers payroll taxes (which should be payable to the OASDI and Medicare trust funds), exactly how will those be recaptured? Do they expect to just leave this bag of burning **** at the doorstep of the next president?

House leaders need to take this to the Supreme court immediately for injunctions!

We are getting closer to tyranny every day with this madman and his stooges.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

The GOP doesn’t have problems handing out tax breaks to the rich buddies of trump, but $200 meant for the poor, which includes minorities disproportionately, is too much for them.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Speaker Pelosi was right the GOP doesn’t“ give a damn “ for the poor

8 ( +10 / -2 )

If you are poor and a minority, the GOP doesn’t want you.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

The riders the Dems wanted to push through on this bill were disgraceful.

Typical right wing thinking, giving money to the people who need them is disgraceful.

While their leaders rob charities to fill their pockets!!

13 ( +15 / -2 )

Hmmm reminds me of DACA executive order someone signed.

*Do they expect to just leave this bag of burning *** at the doorstep of the next president?

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

We are getting closer to tyranny every day with this madman and his stooges.

So you’re pro 2nd Amendment right?

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Reporter: "Why do you keep saying that you passed Veterans' Choice . . . Veterans' Choice ... It was passed in 2014! That's a false statement, sir."

Trump: "Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you very much." (Trump then makes a quick escape offstage without answering the question.)

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Trump: "Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you very much." (Trump then makes a quick escape offstage without answering the question.)

The speed at which trump scoots when called out on his lies makes me think the bonespurs might be made up!!!!!

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Trump seems to appreciate a big welfare state as he gets closer to the election. And it seems that his supporters also are appreciating things they would once have dismissed socialism.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

An executive order for "Chump Change" that won't even trickle down and in the end will amount to nothing but a hill of Goya beans.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

no, our President is just helping the people who Dems refuse to help.

He wont pay people more to stay home than return to work or the people who are already working, that makes sense. Payroll tax holiday, permanent if he is re-elected, brilliant.

I dont want anyone evicted right now, do you? Zero interest on student loans? great as well. people shouldnt be making money from this crisis.

All of these policies benefit the poor and racial groups who are disproportinately affected, this is also good.

Plus, CNN is maaaaaad that Trump did this. That always means something is good and helps the American people.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Fun fact: The House past it’s version in (checks notes) May. It had better unemployment insurance that did not link benefits to individual states which may or may not have the ability (but not the obligation) to pay their part. The WH And the Senate waited until a week before expiration and the noticed “oh, about time to get busy!”

It did not have the useless payroll tax holiday which does little for those that have jobs, nothing for the unemployed because they’re, well, unemployed, and is horrible for the Social Security safety net. Doesn’t matter since Article 1 gives Congress the power of the purse and it’ll get struck down.

fact of the matter is that Trump is flailing, the GOP doesn’t give a damn about the poor or the unemployed (THERES a deficit of about 22 million jobs. It’s not like people don’t want to work, THERE ARE NO JOBS.). He’s just flailing around in an increasingly desperate attempt to fool his rubes into supporting him.

Looking at the comments, he’s been depressingly successful.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

so 170,000 yen equivalent per month for not working is chump change? Plus payroll tax suspension? Thats more than most people make in Japan in a usual month, working. Japan gave us 100,000 yen once.

Liberals just mad you didnt get your 1 trillion dollars of money to spend for things unrelated to coronavirus.

Please Dems, sue Trump over this! take money out of peoples hands and evict them if they are short on the rent one month and make them keep paying taxes/interest when money is tight for most people.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

He wont pay people more to stay home than return to work or the people who are already working, that makes sense. Payroll tax holiday, permanent if he is re-elected, brilliant.

Well, exactly. Democrats could care less about the poor. Nancy can’t talk, look at her own district or go over to Oakland and see how Democrats handing out continuous entitlements have helped that community. Go to LA County the same it’s a mess and the Dems don’t do anything about and when you ask them how they’ve impacted these minority communities, they never, ever can give a detailed answer, just cynical snide attacks. Nancy has always been like that since I can remember and that’s a veeeery long time.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

tens of millions of Americans who lost jobs in the coronavirus pandemic

No more lockdowns. Get rid of the liberal governors and mayors who are deliberately trying to ruin the economy in order to hurt Trump.

Ah_so - Trump seems to appreciate a big welfare state

Ah_ no. He wants to reopen the economy and put people back to work, not pay people to stay home.

Regardless, he’ll be shown the door come November.

With Biden the Dem nominee? Come on, man.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Trump to the rescue again. The Dems just handed him some more votes.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Trump to the rescue again. The Dems just handed him some more votes.

Dont worry, his rich buddies will always vote for him. Ghislaine might not though.......

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Some of these relief orders make sense, others do not. This is not the worst Trump has done.

I still want this moron out, though.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

We are "reclaiming our time" from coronavirus thanks to the decisive actions of this President.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

partly restoring enhanced unemployment payments to the tens of millions of Americans who lost jobs in the coronavirus pandemic, as the United States marked a grim milestone of 5 million cases.

Partly.

But the contempt for the poor and unemployed is still overwhelming. This is a mere sticking plaster on a gaping wound.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

This is not the worst Trump has done.

I still want this moron out, though.

What about that moron Pelosi? You want her to stay in?

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

What about that moron Pelosi? You want her to stay in?

Oh my. Wasn't aware she's PotUS.

But sure, I'd be happy to see all the old guard eventually swept away. The elite detritus from both parties.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Yes such contempt as he gives people of every race, color and creed $1600 per month to not work. And prevents them from being evicted. and stops payroll taxes for those who are working. and eliminates interest payments on student loans.

Such contempt, as obviously this only helps rich white people and all others are excluded from these programs, right? (or does this help ALL Americans? hint: Yes, all Americans)

But the contempt for the poor and unemployed is still overwhelming

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

That recent Supreme court decision about DACA executive order not looking so good for Team Dem now is it? I remember the celebration, and I remember Trump saying its fine, just gives me more power.

Trump should do an executive order a day, as the liberal side of the Supreme Court + John Roberts seem to think they are indisputable and can only be overturned after years of following an exacting and lengthy step by step process.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

What about that moron Pelosi? You want her to stay in?

Oh my. Wasn't aware she's PotUS.

Stay in as House Speaker and 2nd in line to the presidency after Pence.

But sure, I'd be happy to see all the old guard eventually swept away. The elite detritus from both parties.

Once in a great while we agree on something, Toasted. I will admit I'd like to see Mitch McConnell go too, he's been in there long enough.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

What about that moron Pelosi? You want her to stay in?

Yes.

Do you have a key macro programmed for “what about” it would save time.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

so 170,000 yen equivalent per month for not working is chump change? Plus payroll tax suspension? Thats more than most people make in Japan in a usual month, working.

That’s I correct.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

*incorrect

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Looks like Trump sided more with Democrats on this one. Good on him

And the fun part is that his fans will have to support it.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Good on Trump for considering the people. Usually Republicans are against socialist policies and social safety nets. This time he cast a net, at a time when the people can really use it.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

What about that moron Pelosi? You want her to stay in?

I definitely do!

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Having her stay just continues to show how unhinged the Democrat party truly is end it worsens day by day.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

I wholeheartedly support this. Our President took decisive action to help all Americans.

Dems and their media are in panic mode. They want the voters to remain in permanent victim status, beholden to the whims of Dem Congress while the Do Nothing Dems point the finger at others when its their fault.

And the fun part is that his fans will have to support it.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Our President took decisive action to help all Americans.

5 million sick people and 160,000 dead wouldn’t agree.

Except morons like Gohemert and Rand Paul.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

trump is the most unhinged president ever, 1000 plus dead every day and he claims victory.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

What about that moron Pelosi? You want her to stay in?

Yes.

Good grief.

Looks like Trump sided more with Democrats on this one.

Looks like you don't understand that the Democrats don't get a lot of what they wanted.

Our President took decisive action to help all Americans.

5 million sick people and 160,000 dead wouldn’t agree.

A lot more would be sick and dead if Trump hadn't shut down travel from China Jan.31, which, oh my, Joe Biden wouldn't have.

trump is the most unhinged president ever

If he was, wouldn't he have started a war by now instead of working to get our troops out of Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq despite all the opposition from the neo-cons and neo-libs?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

been saying this for weeks. No school openings, parents cant go back to work.

Now that Schumer says it, liberals have a narrative problem. Dems must have run a focus group that says this is bad messaging, so Schumer changed his tune.

"If we don't open up the schools, you're going to hurt the economy significantly because lots of people can't go to work," Schumer said. "Executive orders leave out schools altogether."

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Our President took decisive action to help all Americans.

There’s a first time for everything. Shame he didn’t do the same for COVID-19. That’s what he’ll be recorded in history books for.

Dems and their media are in panic mode.

Of course. You often take delight in this as if it’s something amusing or a signifier that’s your team scored a touchdown. It’s neither.

With such an imbecile in control of the bus everyone should be in panic mode. Why wouldn’t they be? The world needs trump gone. All this happened on HIS watch, so any finger pointing is rightly directed at him.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yeah cause that DACA executive order helped Americans, not just illegal aliens, right?

So yes, this executive order is wonderful for all Americans. all races, all genders.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

What if.....what about....

Meaningless. A person is judged on what they’ve done not what they could have.

Remind us again where the buck stops?

in 3,2,1: “but what have the Democrats done? Biden will (insert meaningless fantasy here)”

4 ( +4 / -0 )

yet, you arent judging Trump based on the merits of the 4 orders he signed, are you?

He did this. anything wrong with the policy he enacted?

Meaningless. A person is judged on what they’ve done not what they could have.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

A lot more would be sick and dead if Trump hadn't shut down travel from China Jan.31, which, oh my, Joe Biden wouldn't have.

Yet 30,000 people from China traveled after his so called ban, and then there were people from Europe coming in when trump was waiting for the miracle!!!

Half of the lives could have been saved if he had made wearing masks mandatory.

trump has blood on his hands, at least 70,000 dead because of his incompetence!!!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The US has 4% of world population, yet it has 25% of fatalities.

Only a moron can think that’s a success.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

He doesnt have that ability.

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-federal-mask-wearing-mandate/

Mask wearing has become just another stupid front in our partisan war. The fact is that whenever Donald Trump fails to engage the federal government in ways that Democrats demand, they claim he is negligent; and whenever he uses the federal government in ways they oppose, they rediscover the Tenth Amendment and accuse him of being a dictator.

Half of the lives could have been saved if he had made wearing masks mandatory.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

He doesnt have that ability.

Leaders lead by example, something trump knows nothing about.

Mask wearing has become just another stupid front in our partisan war

People dying seems stupid to you!!!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

If he was, wouldn't he have started a war by now instead of working to get our troops out of Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq despite all the opposition from the neo-cons and neo-libs?

More like helping his mentor Putin.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

anything wrong with the policy he enacted?

Plenty. It’s not enough.

The unemployed are not just poor black lazy people, they are as you keep saying all Americans. There is record unemployment now and not many jobs. You also seem to have an inflated idea of how far that little money will stretch. Or that it will be an incentive for people to avoid work.

That has long been an argument against handouts made by those who think everyone should just work harder and those who are poor can fix it by themselves if only they had the right attitude.

It’s an even more insidious opinion in the current situation. People are unemployed now because they suddenly lost their jobs, millions of people.

so 170,000 yen equivalent per month for not working is chump change? Plus payroll tax suspension? Thats more than most people make in Japan in a usual month, working.

Why are you talking about Japan and Yen?

That is far from the average salary in Japan, not even close.

“for not working”. That phrase speaks volumes. It’s not a choice. It’s not money for not working, it’s money for not starving or getting evicted.
3 ( +3 / -0 )

its called unemployment is it not? so yeah, you get paid when you are not employed (working).

If they pay them any more its more than people who are working make. How is that fair or sustainable?

We know you need that unemployment number as high as possible for the election. But if people make $500 a week to work and $600 or more a week to not work, what will most people do? $400 is enough to hold people over until they go back to their jobs.

These people had jobs a couple months ago and they will have jobs again.

It’s not money for not working

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

But if people make $500 a week to work and $600 or more a week to not work, what will most people do?

Most people will work. What percentage of people do you imagine were working for $500 a week? You think most workers in Japan are paid less than ¥170,000 a month so I can safely assume you’re way off.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The unemployed are not just poor black lazy people, they are as you keep saying all Americans.

Oh, by the way how has the democrat policies helped the black community?

That has long been an argument against handouts made by those who think everyone should just work harder and those who are poor can fix it by themselves if only they had the right attitude.

I see, so we shouldn’t work harder, we should give people stuff and handle more money, all it makes sense if you can’t create jobs like that you can do is rob from Paul to give it to Peter

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

So then that means according to Joe Biden’s record with his constant and continual racist outbursts not to mention his bizarre gaffes, he’s unqualified to be president

Most likely.

Both these elderly racist men should resign and hand the reins over to younger, more capable candidates.

if you can’t create jobs like that you can do is rob from Paul to give it to Peter

You keep saying this, when it comes to social welfare, education for all and medicare.
