The headline says Iraq and Syria, but the article only mentions Iraq. Anyway, the US should get out of the region. It is time for Trump to stop the stupid meddling.

So glad the Iraq invasion turned out just as predicted. A mere 17 years later and we're still actively engaged in war with no foreseeable end. And of course our most loyal allies, the Kurds, have been abandoned by us. Other than that a perfect plan.

The last administration abandoned our Ukrainian allies as well. Also, I worry more about our soldiers.

The goal here is not to bring peace & democracy to the people but to destabilize the entire region and always have a boogie man to fight against.

Our last administration put so many sanctions on Russia that they meddled in the US elections to elect a russian asset from the GOP as president and sent spies to infiltrate the support groups like NRA and the Trump campaign. Some have already been convicted and are currently being indicted.

Since that election our current administration has capitulated to Putin in every way and in the process removed all the sanctions used to punish them for annexing Crimea, while Russia has done nothing or returned the stolen land.

Try again!

So what would you prefer? Putin yells angrily at Trump for telling him about a Furue terrorist attack? Or worse yet, just let the attack happen cause only Liberals say we aren’t supposed to be talking to Russia?

Putin praised Trump for helping to advert terrorism in Russia by supplying him with intelligence.

Earlier this month, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blamed Iranian-backed forces for a series of attacks on bases in Iraq and warned Iran that any attacks by Tehran or proxies that harmed Americans or allies would be "answered with a decisive U.S. response."

Iran continues to kill Americans and the last three presidents do nothing to stop it. They should be taking the fight to Iranian territory. Bomb military bases in Iran or continue to sit back and watch Americans die.

Why doesn't the US ever strike Al Qaida positions in Idlib?

Interesting that.

I guess they want to minimize friendly fire...

No-one strikes al Qaida positions in Idlib, since they do not know where they are from one day to the next. Turkey would like to protect the area as much as possible. Syria government troops and the Russian air force strike hospitals, schools, houses, mosques, anything to strike fear in the population in a rolling thunder movement to recapture territory.

Oh and WilliB, quote: "The headline says Iraq and Syria, but the article only mentions Iraq."

Try reading the article all the way through, starting with paragraph one and this in para 10.

"*The Pentagon said it had targeted three locations of the Iranian-backed Shiite Muslim militia group in Iraq *and two in Syria."

The most striking thing about this news is that the US which has concentrated solely on Sunni extremists so far, in Iraq and Syria, has now attacked Iran/Hezbollah Shia targets for maybe the first (?) time. (Until now it was only Israel that was hitting Iran/Hezbollah equipment and bases in Syria.)

So I guess Saudi Arabia and Israel will be happiest with the results of this strike.

So getting into Iraq was bad. And of course abandoning "our most loyal allies, the Kurds," is bad.

But... but... you can't help the Kurds without going into Iraq and Syria. Oh, those pesky facts!

"additional actions" may still be taken in the region to defend U.S. interests.

It would be in the U.S.' interest to get the hell out of the Middle East.

Yet the US seems to have no problem finding the positions of "Iranian-backed Shiites".

Because the US can fly intel on Iraq, but they can't on Idlib

Unless ya wanna admit that the S-400 defense system cannot stop the US from doing what they do

It would be in the U.S.' interest to get the hell out of the Middle East.

*Agreed!

Get out! Go home.

They won't because Trump is in love with Saudi Arabia

Unless ya wanna admit that Trump is wrong for siding with Saudi Arabia over the US Congress
