Horrific numbers that will define a generation. Imagine starting university or graduating at this time? My question is when they say 70,000 lives could be saved by wearing masks, but they also say that everyone will get infected, then does that mean that those 70,000 lives would be saved if they got infected later?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The U.S. death toll from COVID-19 stands at more than 159,000, the most of any country in the world, with nearly 4.9 million known cases.

159,000 dead. And the death counts grow daily. Nearly 5,000,000 sickened by the disease, and that number also continues to grow.

Trump's economy in shambles with little hope for recovery any time soon, if ever.

Leadership failures at all levels, especially at the top.

It appears the US wartime president has waved the white flag, surrendered to the virus ('I'm not responsible for that') and retreated to his golf courses (on the taxpayer's dimes) after finding out most of the casualties are not his fellow 'elite'.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

Looking forward Trump cries of victory: “ America is the number one in terms of COVID casualties, 300,000 dead such a HUGE number. Extraordinary! MAGA!”

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Trump's victory cry could well be:

'Only 300,000 dead. They (always a 'they' in Trump's binary word) said there would be 2,000,000. Oh what a stable genius am I, I - all by myself - saved so many lives!'

His Republican rapid response team members and other eugenicists will spin the numbers saying they're not too bad, especially when you consider it's mostly just old and sick people, and they were going to die anyway.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

sounds terrible. But even if so, its less than 0.1% of the population.

shutting down our economy, cowering in fear, everyone not going to work or school will cause more deaths than that from other diseases caused by sedentary lifestyle and mental health issues.

These people also claim Mexico will go from 50,000 deaths to 120,000 deaths by December 1.

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

@Blacklabel

The 0.1% would have become 1% or more if no health rules wefe not applied against the virus...

Germany has walk up, free testing. Results within 24 or so hours.

Merkel is a leader.

I wish we had one.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Well with 160,000 deaths so far, it doesn't look like many people even in America care that much. From the vitriol you see in American social media and politics and the tendency of Americans to involve politics into all aspects of life, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people are even hoping for more, as long as it's the 'other side'. I doubt anything will change in the US whether the death toll was 300,000 or 3 million.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

The politics on this need to stop. The finger pointing is not helping. The two parties at great divide is not helping. This study is not helping. Ask yourself honesty. Had Hillary Clinton won. Do you honestly think the casualty number would be any different?

Lower or higher? And this is not a Trump plug either.

This is a mankind global problem. We need to get out of the way of ourselves.

I will say it again and again. The Chinese government must be head accountable for this no matter who is sitting in the Oval Office at the end of the election.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

The highest ratings folks. The greatest people running the government.

I'm guessing we're beyond the point of being "sick of winning" .

Winning the sick more like.

That's a lot of dead people, it's a very sad situation.

My question is when they say 70,000 lives could be saved by wearing masks, but they also say that everyone will get infected

Sorry, but where in the article does anyone say that everyone will get infected?

Thanks a lot, CHINA

Another liberal State enclave fallen to pieces by Marxist leadership. Sad, very sad.

I wish we had one.

I’m becoming more convinced by the argument that the lack of scientists in government is a problem. There are too many lawyers and ‘economists’ ( a very dodgy field ). Maybe it’s my bias as I have a science background, but Merkel’s response is that of a scientist.

As for conspiracy theorists, reality TV show hosts and dodgy businessmen, they, or all three in one, are about as much use as a chocolate teapot in situations like this.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I always wanted to see my alma mater in a JT headline, but not for this reason...

3 ( +3 / -0 )

We have scientists that THINK they know a lot, but in the end don’t or over inflate the issue, but not without help from their liberal masters in Washington and their msm sidekicks to politicize the issue. At least Dr. Barbot gets it.

Another liberal State enclave fallen to pieces by Marxist leadership. Sad, very sad.

Uh.....yeah, look at all those liberal Marxist states mentioned in the article:

rising in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Virginia

A positive cornucopia of socialist hotbeds right there for sure.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

As long as there are Republicans at home and abroad that undermine truth and science the USA continues to crater. China started the fire but USA threw itself upon it

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Uh.....yeah, look at all those liberal Marxist states mentioned in the article:

Hmmmm.....looking at California and New York and their economies that pretty muc drive the the US are in preeetty bad shape.

A positive cornucopia of socialist hotbeds right there for sure.

They’re not aggressively pushing to keep their States Locked down until we find a cure.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

China started the fire but USA threw itself upon i

Utter nonsense, Trump was completely against the lockdown and the Dems kept pushing him and the scientists urged him, The same so-called smart scientist like Dr. Fauci that said we should open up the schools again, carefully slowly and gradually, but for some reason the Democrats now all of a sudden the Dems don’t want to listen to him.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Hmmmm.....looking at California and New York and their economies that pretty muc drive the the US are in preeetty bad shape.

Which part of the United States is not in preeeettty bad shape economically right now?

They’re not aggressively pushing to keep their States Locked down until we find a cure.

I haven't seen any states making a commitment to keeping locked down until a cure is found.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

That is a very likely and accurate prediction.

As for those who think it's no big deal, they are disgusting human beings.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Trump was completely against the lockdown

Yes, that has gone really well for the US so far, only 160,000 dead. Good job so far, almost halfway to the 300,000 goal. Time for another victory lap.

The same so-called smart scientist like Dr. Fauci

So is he a scientist or isn't he?

Dems don’t want to listen to him.

The guy Trump doesn't want to listen to either? Hmmmm so confused.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Thanks a lot, CHINA

The majority of people in some countries respect their leaders for their actions on Covid.

Trump’s approval on Covid is in the toilet.

Stop making excuses for poor leadership. Fewer and fewer people are buying it.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Trump was completely against the lockdown

Trump pandemic failure #3.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

More Americans are dying from Covid-19 than WW1 (116k), the Vietnam War (58k), the Union soldiers in the US Civil War (140k), and the Confederate soldiers (74k)

If it hits 300k, that's not too far off from the US deaths from WW2 (405k)

If ya don't think that's a lot, then not a lot of Americans died in WW2

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Which part of the United States is not in preeeettty bad shape economically right now?

The richest States CA and NY and that’s bad, very bad.

I haven't seen any states making a commitment to keeping locked down until a cure is found.

Depends, if Trump wins, yes, but if Biden wins, they’ll reopen everything, but it’ll already too late for a lot of the big industries, oh well, the Democrats at least won’t have anybody to tax anymore.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Yes, that has gone really well for the US so far, only 160,000 dead. Good job so far, almost halfway to the 300,000 goal. Time for another victory lap.

Especially when you look at the overall death rate going down.

So is he a scientist or isn't he?

Very good question.... .

The guy Trump doesn't want to listen to either? Hmmmm so confused.

Neither do most people, liberal included, look at the so called protesters....

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

NY State is already in Phase 4 of reopening

Their economy is mostly open, unlike other states which are reversing back into tighter restrictions

They're way ahead of other states

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Especially when you look at the overall death rate going down.

It's going up.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

For every death from Covid-19, there are 15+ people who suffer significant effects, including kidney, heart and neurological problems when none existed before.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Horrfic numbers. And it's horrible to think that people are still trying to dimiss it, here and now in Japan. Despite what's brought their country to its knees.

sounds terrible. But even if so, its less than 0.1% of the population.

Just imagine if one of us tried to reduce the impact and deaths on 9/11 or Pear Harbour. Meh, forget about it, the numbers are tiny etc. Despicable, the cry would be, and rightly so.

Wear a mask and don't fall for falsehoods. For all our sakes.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Neither do most people, liberal included, look at the so called protesters....

Veterans, moms, people from all walks of life, people who have been dismissed for generations and now dismissed and demonized by a mentally ill PotUS.

Another liberal State enclave fallen to pieces by Marxist leadership. Sad, very sad.

What on earth are you talking about? Marxist leadership? What?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

It is what is is, under Trump. 300,000? pe shaw! Who cares as long as he is okay?

It was hilarious watching him flail through the book of charts and graphs saying, "Look at this! Look.... ummm... at this... we're number one! Look! Here's some red spots... that's the virus. That's China virus... which was sent... from China. Deaths are way down! 1000? it is what it is. Up is still down. We're doing great. It's in the book. Everyone says so. I have a friend who said it -- no one is doing better than I am."

4 ( +4 / -0 )

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2248813-why-are-us-coronavirus-deaths-going-down-as-covid-19-cases-soar/

So follow the science.

Veterans, moms, people from all walks of life, people who have been dismissed for generations and now dismissed and demonized by a mentally ill PotUS

Way more in the states where these liberals leaders preside, California as well as NY have not done a good job at all for these veterans for many mothers as well and for illegal aliens in New York the homeless population is getting worse, so I don’t know what Newsom or Garcetti or Cuomo or Deblasio are doing.

The latest Biden ad is just someone angry their grandma died then saying vote for Biden. Not one Biden policy, word or nothing.

just my grandma died, everyone must vote for Biden.

Way to politicize death but also....why does this mean people must vote for Biden?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Grandma died from corona if the ad is accurate

and they chose a Hispanic lady to cry on behalf of the vote Biden effort. That is sad both the death and the lame ad.

It’s the game. Try to get the message out that your opponent is unfit for the job.

Trump’s approval on Covid is rightly in the toilet. Capitalize on it. I’d make an ad replaying his injecting disinfectant idiocy. There are some cracking memes out there to rip off. The one with Trump holding a bottle of Clorox asking the assembled reporters ‘what have you got to lose?’ was a cracker. Only Trump cultists didn’t find that funny.

The Trump team should be making ads capitalizing on Biden’s worrying mental decline. The footage of Biden trying to remember the word ‘creator’ was shocking.

There is clear mileage for both candidates here.

No need for partisanship.

and they chose a Hispanic lady to cry on behalf of the vote Biden effort. That is sad both the death and the lame ad.

You commented on it. It made enough of an impression on you as a Trump supporter to try to shoot it down here.

Effective ad.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Sad but nor surprising. What is also not surprising is that many of this 300K will be Trump supporters, and their families, who took his word when he re-tweeted an article that said wearing a mask was 'Anti-American" and promoted a "culture of slavery"....

The cult of Trump - ending up like every other cult in history....

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So follow the science.

That article is from three weeks ago. Deaths are now back up to over 1,000 a day.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Yes, but the overall point and generally speaking, death rate is going down.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1113051/number-reported-deaths-from-covid-pneumonia-and-flu-us/

So following the science it seems you’re more likely to die of pneumonia over the COVID itself.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

So following the science it seems you’re more likely to die of pneumonia over the COVID itself.

And another SNL or Steven Colbert comment....read the first part that says "science" and the last part that says "more likely to die of pneumonia"...

We're in a pandemic that is likely to kill 300K people - one that is preventable if a small section of the population hadn't been told time and time again to not trust "science" and that have ridiculed and insulted our most experienced medical experts and scientists...

You bought into too - you said numerous times that wearing a mask was "Anti-American"....

It's you and other Trump supporters who refuse to believe science....but prefer what your President believes; "Alien DNA, witches and demons, and disinfectant"...

5 ( +5 / -0 )

You bought into too - you said numerous times that wearing a mask was "Anti-American"....

Yup.

It's you and other Trump supporters who refuse to believe science....

I never said I didn’t believe in science. I said, I just don’t believe everything Fauci says. I believe in many medical theories, I don’t bow or let the media force feed me into believing that Fauci is all omnipotent.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I always do.

I use them sparingly, but I always keep a ‘LOL’ handy for moments like this.

LOL

1 ( +2 / -1 )

You bought into too - you said numerous times that wearing a mask was "Anti-American"....

Yup.

Still? Even your President has flipped and said wearing a mask is a medical and scientific endorsed health safety measure and is now "patriotic".... Interesting you think Trump is Anti-American....

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/07/20/politics/donald-trump-mask-tweet/index.html

It's you and other Trump supporters who refuse to believe science....

I never said I didn’t believe in science.

Yet you state wearing a mask is "Anti-American" - a purely political view instead of one based on science...

4 ( +4 / -0 )

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

The Inaugural Address Jan. 20 2017

300,000 by December 1, but by January 20 2020 how many more? Exponential spread still threatens.

"American Carnage - Promises made, Promises not kept" will be Trump's legacy carved in stone. A history lesson for the ages, innit?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Still? Even your President has flipped and said wearing a mask is a medical and scientific endorsed health safety measure and is now "patriotic".... Interesting

you think Trump is Anti-American....

No, I just said, he can wear a mask if he wants to, don’t ask me, don’t think they’re Anti-American, I think being pushed to wear the mask is though.

But as far as flipping is concerned, Trump flipped, Cuomo flipped, Fauci flipped, DeBlasio flipped, we get it, they all flipped.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Still? Even your President has flipped and said wearing a mask is a medical and scientific endorsed health safety measure and is now "patriotic".... Interesting you think Trump is Anti-American....

No, I just said, he can wear a mask if he wants to, don’t ask me, don’t think they’re Anti-American, I think being pushed to wear the mask is though.

Here we go again - you clearly said you still view wearing a mask as "Anti-American". Trump wears a mask...

Therefore, you view him as Anti-American....

But as far as flipping is concerned, Trump flipped, Cuomo flipped, Fauci flipped, DeBlasio flipped, we get it, they all flipped.

Trump really flipped - before it was "Anti-American", now it is "Patriotic". So since you don't wear a mask, in Trump's view you are not a patriot...

You think Trump is Anti-American for wearing a mask, and he thinks you're non-patriotic for not wearing one...

For the first and probably only time, I agree with both of you...

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Someone could post "1+1=2" and the fringe alt-right wing would vote it down as a liberal conspiracy.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Here we go again

Yes, sadly.

you clearly said you still view wearing a mask as "Anti-American". Trump wears a mask...

Therefore, you view him as Anti-American....

I don’t I think he is anti-American, I think that the idea pushing someone to Walmart in itself is anti-American, not the person.

As I said, they all flipped, doesn’t make anything less American, but their ideas and thinking in regards to the evolution of this virus constitute as flipping a lot, more than a Jack cheese omelette.
