the country raced to overhaul its inoculation plan over concerns about the riskS of blood clots with the AstraZeneca Plc vaccine.

Reason: Multiple deaths.

We were told over and over that the vaccines were safe. Anyone who questioned safety or lack of testing, who expressed caution or the right of refusal without negative consequences has been 'fact checked' and labelled an 'anti-vaxxer'.

Let everyone make an informed decision without judgement or negative social consequences.

This is the link to the Yellow Card system in the UK. In total so far 472 fatalities. They may or may not be connected to other condition. Take into account that 20 million doses have been given so far in the UK. Do the maths and think how many deaths have been avoided in a country that is logging the total deaths in the 100,000's.

Could I ask the Japanese government to please buy Sputnik V. Make a deal to manufacture it in Japan for the population ASAP. I know USA won't like it but time to put Japan first.

Look, I'm going to be *that** guy *but the average person doesn't have the ability to make a properly informed choice. Informed is relative, and most people aren't. No matter how much youtube you watch. This is a global issue and that's just too much to entrust to the average person.

Something as simple as an informed choice of the healthy option between orange juice and cola is beyond most people. Obviously you'd pick orange juice right? Why? High fructose corn syrup might be a reason. Well, orange juice has pretty much the same amount of fructose as cola. How does your body react to one monosaccharide compared to another anyway? The higher amounts of glucose in cola could improve brain function. There's also caffeine in cola. How does caffeine affect a sedentary person vs an active one or even an athlete. Orange juice has a lot of phytonutrients that cola doesn't. But say if you're taking warfarin they're going to change that drug interaction potentially. Why are your drinking the fluid anyway? For taste, satiation, hydration? All of those mean we'd have to look at this from different angles.

Orange juice vs cola wont kill you or your neighbor. Pick whatever you want. Getting or not getting this vaccine will cause deaths either way. Most of us here, more than likely all of us, aren't informed enough to make that choice. Follow the experts.

The clotting worries me too. And the latest study on the brain after taking the vaccines are troubling as well.

All of the current vaccines are largely untested, but it is only the AZ one which is coming under the microscope? Why?

Not only side effects but lack of efficacy. Before South Africa resold their stocks of the AstraZeneca/ Oxford University vaccine, they reported 9, yes 9% efficacy.

The Argentinian President was covid positive in march after receiving the Sputnik V vaccine in January/February

Told you so, not only about that one vaccine, but you always prefer not to listen to what I’m saying. Of course, it’s not forbidden, feel free to drive against the walls, ignoring even their existence. But I can’t pull you then out of the wracks, even if I still wanted.

Australian vaccine program somewhat in turmoil now and further delays to an already delayed rollout. Despite doing this the government and media still saying it is perfectly safe, benefits outweigh risks blah blah blah.

There is close to zero risk to catch covid in Australia now anyhow and for under 30s in the almost impossible odds they have to catch covid they have close to 99.xxxxxx% age immunity of getting any serious symptoms let alone even mild ones. Clearly for them with the current guidelines the vaccine is more dangerous.

Japan too has been counting on this same vaccine for the majority of its rollout, with Japanese factories supposed to be manufacturing it soon if not already, Further turmoil for Japan's delayed rollout yet to come I expect

only the AZ one is coming under the microscope? Why?

Because it's made in the UK and offered on an open licence at cost price. Only a simpleton would believe that Pfizer and Moderna, which are earning billions of dollars from their vaccines, would be happy with that.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The authorised vaccines have all been very well tested, they wouldn’t have been authorised otherwise. At least in those nations that have independent testing and authorization regimes. Even with the intense focus on the AstraZeneca vaccine, it has made almost no difference to the numbers, even if a causal link is eventually demonstrated.

A cautious approach to the AZ vaccine is sensible for younger people who, statistically at least, have little to gain personally from vaccination. But if you are younger for the sake of your family and other fellow humans, don’t let that stop you getting one of the other vaccines.

‘South Africa resold their stocks of the AstraZeneca/ Oxford University vaccine, they reported 9, yes 9% efficacy’

Pretty sure you forgot to finish your sentence. It’s well publicised that the AstraZeneca vaccine is not very effective against the South African variant. So hardly surprising they’d move on vaccines that are ineffective against their dominant Covid strain.

Had my AZ vaccine yesterday... apart from feeling achy I'm fine.

The risk (and we're talking about a 0.0095% chance of clots in anyone taking the vaccine) is tiny. We have vaccinated more than 20 million people with the AZ vaccine... and cases are in the dozens. Covid also causes clots, as does the contraceptive pill. A link has not been proven between the vaccine and clots - merely a suspected link.

Stop scare mongering

No Vaccine for me! I don't trust anything that was made in a few months. I won't let the Gov't control me.

People can offer you the information about how the vaccines are much safer than risking the natural infection, but nobody can "understand it" for you.

for anyone under the age of 75, the dangers of a serious side effect or worse is now greater than the chances of dying from Covid.

the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is the latest to spring a leak.

Oooooh, those dirty Americans!

FYI, below is from another Australuan news article:

Mr Morrison pointed out that the risk of the blood clots was only about four to six in a million.

This is far lower than the risk of clots among people taking the contraceptive pill (one in 2,000) or travelling on planes (one in 4,656 flights lasting over four hours). In fact, up to 30% of people who have COVID-19 will get thrombocytopenia, making the risk from the virus much higher, Professor Munir Pirmohamed, chair of the UK’s Committee of Human Medicines, told Sky News.

This just isn't true.

Why JT publishes articles that bemoan the spread of conspiracy theories while courting conspiracy theorists in its comments is beyond me.

That is not what the scientific data proves, unless you count head or body aches as "serious side effects". And if it is then choosing a higher risk for these instead of dying of COVID is still the only rational decision.

body aches are certainly not what I'm talking about, as u well know. And unless you familiarize yourself with VEARS data, you'll continue to be incredibly wrong on each Covid-related subject.

But thats how you like it, so continue on if you must. I guess its a full time job for you, clearly.

Pretty sure you forgot to finish your sentence.

No, didn't forget anything.

The Argentinian President was covid positive in march after receiving the Sputnik V vaccine in January/February

Precisely. Though there are contrasting accounts as to whether he had taken one or two shots. Regardless, around 1 in 11 or 12 are still susceptible after taking Sputnik V. But like the Argentine President, that one will only experiance a very minor and short-term sickness.

I'm interested to know what the hell happened in Michigan. They reported that 10s of people died after being fully vaccinated. They didn't say whether it was Pfizer or Moderna. Both reported around 95% efficacy and 100% against severe illness. But now we know that isn't true. Which was it?

I know a lot of people are upset about a state-owned lab with no ties to Wall Street utterly out-science Big Pharma. But who doesn't want this to be over ASAP? This is why I'm enthusiastic about Sputnik V and very much want the Japanese government to reject Wall Street and the US regime, put Japan first and buy Sputnik V ASAP. With the existing capacity in Japan, I imagine they could produce and deploy Sputnik V very quickly.

@Paul, feel free to fly to russia and inject the vodka vaccine in your vein. The only vaccine I'll take will be made in Japan, foreign companies/countries put profits or other nefarious agendas before human lives

I was employing irony to mild comic effect. Of course I suspected you were editing the information to suit your narrative.

Well, I am not getting the shot. Any of them. I am not going to be a lab rat for the pharmaceutical companies. Count me out. And yes. There is more of the vaccine for the rest of you.

@SwissToni and @Thunderbird2

South African variant, SwissToni? See Blackadder Johnson's dictionary. Are you planning to go back for the South African variant booster Thunderbird2?

@Lazarus Knows

And what are the facts, exactly?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Some Covid vaccine proponents are aggressively urging refusers and hesitant people to accept the vaccine in order to 'protect others'. I hope they now realise that protection from vaccine injury is a serious and perfectly understandable consideration.

Others (a minority) are aggressively warning others to not accept. They need to take into account the many Covid deaths and people's legitimate concerns.

No one in either camp would want to be responsible for the death others. Giving an opinion is fine, but aggressive pushing of people towards either side should stop. Let people make their own decision.

Stop scare mongering

The hysterical types can’t help themselves. They want people to be as hysterical as they are. It’s a coping mechanism.

They need our sympathy and care. Don’t be too judgmental.

I suspect if it isn't approved in Japan, someone will organize vaccine vacations in Russia. In Europe companies are already making reservations for when Russia opens its borders to foreigners.

I also wanted and expected a vaccine made in Japan early on but seems Japan has really gone into decline more than most of us realize. Seems Japan doesn't have the resources or technology to make a vaccine.

was employing irony to mild comic effect. Of course I suspected you were editing the information to suit your narrative.

Comic effect? What the hell are you talking about? Switzerland is the mother of all rogue states. In any civilized society that criminal state would have been brought to its knees a long time ago. And you want everyone to know you are Swiss....... That's some "narrative" all its own.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

The vaccines are safe - the incidences are quite low. One has a better chance at dying in a car crash - yet everyday billions of people freely take the chance to drive because they feel driving is safe enough. Think about that

And then there's Pfizer vaccine. Anybody has problems with that?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Like a gambler whose 'luck' has fled to other venues, Britain can't get a break. But, perhaps that comes from cultural and biological exhaustion having sent over close to a DOZEN generations of their best people offshore and many fewer returning. The last two worldwide mass murders cost them a huge deficit in healthy, bright young people, childless and wasted, while the less mentally and physically agile were preserved at home. The dregs of 'empire', what's left after the killing, is difficult to look at and seems to be capable of little else than shots to its foot. Somehow, at least in my mind, the AZ always seemed a little questionable which maybe was the 80% rating it achieved out of the gate or...I dunno, but as soon as I heard the first news of the British vaccine there has been a question mark on it for me but more intuitive than verbalizeable. And, now, we discover that a zero was the difference, initially 80% but now, in use, 8%. Britain should go on vacation for a generation or two before they choose to make any more significant moves vis-a-vis their viability as a united people. And Johnson certainly is the most appropriate MC for this End of Empire special.

@ Seth M -

The only vaccine I'll take will be made in Japan, foreign companies/countries put profits or other nefarious agendas before human lives

LOL. Nice one. The same Japan that has for over a year been putting the Olympics before human lives, ignoring the wishes of her own citizens RE the Olympics, and testing no more than a handful of people each day? Plenty of agendas before "human lives" sadly.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

That's some "narrative" all its own.

Yes Paul, quite the narrative. Yours though, again.

If there’s one thing the pandemic has demonstrated, it’s that facts have far more power than fiction. Science is proving far more efficacious than politics.
