Funny how the people who insist that Iran (invaded no one in close to a thousand years, everybody has a right to vote for the legislature that has to pass all laws, the President, even the body that oversees the judiciary, including the 'Supreme Leader', that has women athletes, race car drivers, politicians, business owners, even fighter pilots) is the equivalent of Saudi Arabia (their list of the bad behaviors is accurate for that part of their 'equivalency') see no equivalency between the Saud and Israeli regime (majority of both populations denied the vote when it comes to who rules them, invaded too many states too many times to list here, denial of rights to half their legal population - different halves, based on different prejudices, but still pretty equivalent)
But, then again, when have they shown any sign that facts matter when it comes to the opinions they voice?

Relationships change. History shows us that. You were at war with the UK back in the 19th century, remember?
Not so long ago, Saddam Hussein was an ally of the US, when Iran and Iraq were at war.
That got you rattled. UN monitors are often sent in to observe elections, it could easily happen in the US under the Trump junta. And plenty of people already boycott US goods, it's not a stretch that one day your country could be hit with sanctions. You've already got the trade wars.
Did you notice the Hawaiian flags, as opposed to American flags flying in parts of the Big Island and Oahu?
Anyway, this is the usual spiel about how some think they can buy anyone and anything because they have the money. The might is right option.
It's not going to fly with Greenland. The US does not get to dictate to other nations like Greece and it certainly doesn't get to purchase other nations.
bass4funk
Yes, sad, but still doesn’t change the relationship.
Yeah and we will all be riding Unicorns one day as well, trust me, it’s a known fact.
Not going to happen. Honestly, I would like to deal in the world of reality.
Dunno, I used to go to Hawaii twice a year and been a couple of times to Alaska, they all seem happy and healthy.
Lasted longer in Brazil.
Toasted Heretic
Oh, I know.
With such blatant disregard for humans and their homes, being seen as commodities to be bought and sold, it's hardly surprising that slavery lasted so long in your country.
Toasted Heretic
You don't need it. It's a sponsor of terrorism and behind the proxy war in Yemen. The pursuit of money results in the deaths of millions.
Maybe. Maybe one day the UN will have to act against the US with sanctions. Who knows?
I'm not British. I'm giving you a scenario where another country decides to buy large tracts of your country. Or maybe even the whole thing. Because, y'know, mineral resources and real estate.
Would you be ok with this?
bass4funk
Ok, but I think so.
Yes, we know that.
Which is primarily the US, without us, there is really No NATO.
Yeah, that’s what they said about Hawaii and Alaska, you never know for the right price.
bass4funk
Seems like your wrong....again.
In 1946, the Truman administration tried, unsuccessfully, to buy the entire island from Denmark for $100 million. The U.S. was, however, granted long-term access to important military sites.
Today, the main U.S. military presence is at Thule Air Base in the north of the country. Thule also serves as a very important early warning radar and satellite tracking station for the protection of the U.S. homeland.
So while the U.S.-Greenland security relationship is already good, U.S. policymakers should use the president’s newfound interest in Greenland to advance closer economic relations with the country and expand America’s diplomatic presence there.
Strategically, I think it’s a magnificent idea.

I'm pretty certain they don't like 3000 relatives being killed by Saudi Arabian terrorists, aren't you?
Because your country is interfering and telling others what to do. It's not the boss of the rest of the world.
Tell you what, my country's going to step up and buy a few of your states and territories, I'm sure you won't mind. Seeing as the economy is about to go pear shaped and there's all that real estate...
Ok, he'll be invading Russia next...
bass4funk
But it doesn’t matter if they like it or not.
Why?
If it’s a financial burden for the Danes, why not? This wasn’t the first time a US President tried to buy the country.
No, that would be Russia.

One very positive thing about Trump is that suddenly Americans are opposed to the US overreach and telling other countries what to do. Most had no problem with US bullying/invading other countries under Obama, and would probably be equally silent under another Democratic president. It continues to get worse no matter who is president. If hatred of Trump can wake some people out of their slumber, good for him.
bass4funk
A lot.
No, no one in Washington supports the Saudis because they’re swell people, we need them strategically and even if we get a Democrat socialist in the office, they’ll uphold that relationship as well.

Like I said, it’s debatable.

What if the U.S. seizes it? What will the Ayatollah do? Ask Putin to spank Trump?

Aye. Successive British and American governments have a lot to answer for. And not just in that region...
JeffLee
No they weren't. They were caused by the Ottoman Empire, who colonized the region for several centuries. Britain occupied some of the region after WW1, because the Ottomans had earlier decided to ally itself with the Germans, right before the Ottoman Empire collapsed, leaving the region in a genocidal mess, which the British and French were obliged to try and clean up as temporary postwar administrators.

I'm sure the relatives of the victims of 9/11 might have something to say on that.
Not to mention the fact that Saudi Arabia basically got away with murdering and chopping up a journalist for the Washington Post...
In the meantime, it's worrying to see the US "warning" Greece and countries in the Med.
Aside from wanting to "buy" Greenland, one feels that his colonialist tendencies are of dark days we thought long gone.
He'll be invading Poland next...

Incredible but not surprising.
Re Iran, I hope you mean 'barbaric clerical regime', not ppl/country as such!? Iranians are some of the most educated/cultured/intellectually curious/hospitable ppl I've ever met (am not talking about expats/docs/lawyers etc am talking about ppl in Iran). Reckon most are pro-democracy (even if that means an Iran rather than western-style democracy) and would welcome more tolerance/equality re women, gays & other minorities if given the chance.
Let's be honest, Iran & its ppl have been demonized by western (esp eng-speaking) media for decades. We the west could/should have worked with Khatami, a moderate/reformist; instead we/Bush told them they were the 'axis of evil'. No wonder they don't trust us.
Silvafan
Yeah, only Saudi supplied the world with the mastermind and hijackers to bomb the US on 9/11.
Luddite
It's incredible that the US thought it's warrants trump EU law.
starpunk
America, being hijacked by an irresponsible dictator as it is has no business whatsoever telling an ally (let alone Greece) what to do concerning a foreign ship.
lulldapull
@crazyJoe.......keep in mind, there are no UN sanctions on Iran. If however the US wants to sanction Iran then it doesn't make it law. Iran is free to trade with who ever it wants to. Iran is under no obligations to respect US law. You understand that?
bass4funk
That’s debatable.
Strangerland
The US destroyed Iran’s political system.
What has Iran done to the US?
bass4funk
As if Iran were anywhere even remotely close to being innocent.

The sad part here is that Trump the Chump inherited an Iran dominated middle east from Mubarak Hussain Obama.......lol. He's desperate to make sense out of it, but its too late. Iran dominates the entire Northern middle east big time. and there is diddly squat Trump can do about this. He will surrender to Iran, just like Mubarak Hussain Obama before him.......lol
Norman Goodman
There is not a single quote in the article backing up this claim. Washington is a city of individually minded people and so is American and the U.S. government. So if such a warning was ever issued it was by an individual or a few of them and not "Washington" by anything but an insane stretch of the imagination. So who? What that they say exactly? Is this just propaganda masquerading as journalism?
CrazyJoe
Seems totally legitimate to me, Greece is clearly not Syria. Islamic Republic of Iran has been a member of the United Nations since 24 October 1945, so doing trade with Greece is just a normal business transaction.
Raw Beer
It's no wonder why Iran calls the US the great Satan.
lulldapull
Mr Trump came out looking the chump here didn't he.......lol.....what a fool Trump is. The funny thing is he knows he can't screw around with Iran or else Iran will pull down his pants and everyone will have a good laugh.......lol
