Mudslides and flooding kill at least 13 in California

Pretty horrific. Reminds me a bit of the Kumamoto quakes in that local stores will quickly run out of stock and not be able to be resupplied for some time.

The area was under a voluntary evacution warning. Residents who decided to stay should have known they were putting themselves and family members at risk.

A friend sent a photo of the 101 - it's gonna take a long time to reopen that. Chaos.

California can't seem to catch a break recently

i feel sorry for ordinary citizens, especially those that lost family, friends, homes, businesses and have to live in fear.

The area of Montecito with the most devastation last night was in an area that was not in mandatory evacuation orders during last night's storm nor the mandatory evacuation orders during the Thomas Fire. The Santa Barbara area received the least amount of rain in all of California last year (2017) and that is the greatest contributor to the devastation that they are experiencing at present. Santa Barbara County is a fabulous example of preparedness for these types of disasters, but sometimes no matter how much you prepare, bad things can still happen.
