If surgeons were armed:

"Nurse - scalpel. Gauze. Glock."

Just another day in a country awash with guns.

But think of the bright side....we've eliminated the threat from Somali grandmother's who have no connection to the US. So we have that going for us.

I need mine for hunting. You're making an emotional, subjective argument.

You “want” yours for hunting. Nothing wrong with that. But I do think a gun costs way more than $4 chicken thigh at the market.

Now please ask your self again who’s making the emotional argument. If you aren’t in the middle of nowhere (no grocery store) and you don’t rely on hunting as a job then hunting is your hobby to which you are “emotionally” attached.

all guns should be banned. why do i need a gun? i don't wanna kill anybody.

Staff and patients should have had guns surgically grafted to their arms, to be prepared for this kind of thing. Guns don't kill people - not having guns does!

(Yes, folks. It's bad taste all round when yet another horrible massacre goes down, just getting mine in before the NRA types).

RIP to the doctor who lost her life and kudos to the brave staff who stayed on to treat the wounded.

Assault weapons ban nationwide. No more military weapons on our streets!

I'm waiting for the NRA to say that if everyone in the hospital had guns everyone would have been much safer.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Sounds like a bad apple that no-one wanted to deal with one way or another. A seemingly generous offer of 'resignation to avoid termination' may have been seen by him as the worst non-solution to his problem.

Typical NRA supporter lays out their worldview/position:

NRA rules!

Clearly everyone should wear full body armor/helmet, including hospital and school staff, kids and old folks, at work or at play.

Right?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

If everyone at the hospital had been armed, nobody would be injured or dead. It's just common sense that more firearms makes everyone safer. Of course, that is so much nonsense.

Lol could you imagine this. One person shoots and we all pull out our guns and shoot each other.

While there are two extreme solutions I don’t think I would pick the one that has a higher chance of putting stupid people in power.

The best way to prevent a toothache is by not eating sweets. There is a greater temptation when you have sweets so it’s better to not buy sweets at all. Everyday people don’t here gunshots daily, personally I would be triggered by a large sound and overreact. With okay self control my self, I couldn’t bear to think what a stupid person on the brink of losing there job might do.

The public able to get their hands on assault rifles.

What a brilliant idea.

" A law enforcement source told PIX11 News the suspected gunman is Henry Bello. The source said Bello has three previous arrests on his record, dating back to 2004. Those arrests were related to sex abuse, forcible touching and stalking or surveillance, the source said.

He was allowed to resign from the hospital in 2015 amid sex harrassment allegations, the Associated Press reports.

A doctor by that name was included, as of Friday afternoon, on the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center's website as a family medicine practitioner.

The New York State Office of Profession’s online database shows an entry for a Dr. Henry Bello who worked at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.

A spokeswoman for the agency said Bello had a "limited permit to practice as an international medical graduate to gain experience in order to be licensed." That permit expired on July 1, 2016."

What makes you think that more people won’t be killed if we all have guns. People are emotional time bombs. In the cases were people don’t have a gun and they want to cause harm, it’s already easier to stop them. Plus they could realize there mistake without doing something hasty. Give everyone guns and you just raise the suicide, homicide, and massacre rate by 10 fold.

Oh it's so tuff living in a free society.

Sad to see our incorrigible bloodhound who sniffs out conspiracies from a million yards, exposes the puppet masters and shines daylight wherever he goes, doesn't see how the gun manufacturers play with people's minds and influence and corrupt US politics.

Depressing.

all guns should be banned.

That's right, and the millions of guns that are out there will all magically disappear.

No, they won't disappear, but the numbers also won't increase.

I would appreciate it if everyone would start using the correct term: personal defense device.

And please define just what an "assault rifle" is

How about we let the experts do that?

Definition of assault rifle

: any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire; also  : a rifle that resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/assault%20rifle

Because it isn't like criminals couldn't make their own. Heck people have made them with 3D printers.

Which requires more time, effort, and money. Oh, I get it. If we cannot solve a problem completely, we shouldn't try.

Before the ink is even dry on this story another mass shooting

Before the blood is dry...?

@swift.

Every day, 47 children and teens are shot in murders, assaults, suicides & suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, and police intervention.

Every day, 7 children and teens die from gun violence:

4 are murdered

2 die from suicide

Every day, 39 children and teens are shot and survive:

31 injured in an attack

1 survives a suicide attempt

8 shot unintentionally

sorry to not to include adults, but really who cares?

I think it's far to early to jump to any sort of conclusions.

I think it's far to early to jump to any sort of conclusions.

While this is absolutely true...

The mayor characterized the shooting as an "isolated incident" that appeared to be "workplace-related."

I'm willing to be this is a pretty clear sign the shooter's name wasn't Abdul or Hassan.

Seems to be felons are allowed guns in NYC. Law abiding citizens must have an (impossible to get) license to get a handgun however.

He went to the hospital with multiple jars of gasoline and set the 17th-floor nurse’s station on fire. Thankfully they had automatic sprinklers to put the flames out. Why are felons hired and promoted at major hospitals is the real question.

I need mine for hunting.

Hunting with a gun is for wimps. I've always chosen a compound bow. Much more exciting and sportier to hunt with.

I thought when someone had been arrested for sexual crimes before, his name and address became open to public as a registered sex offender. Bello might have been released without convictions, but a pink collar job in a metropolitan hospital sounds ill suited for him.

had been arrested for sexual crimes before, his name and address became open to public as a registered sex offender

It depends on what the crime was as to whether it requires being registered and for how long the registration lasts.

But more importantly, no registration is ever required unless a conviction results. Simply being arrested for any crime is not enough to cause punitive measures. Hence the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty'.

Definition of assault rifle

How did Merriam-Webster become an expert on guns? And I know you will find that various other experst will give you different definitions. If the experts can't agree then it makes it kind of hard to write legislation that can be understood.

Also that definition is laughable. Someone could take the action and barrel from a semi-automatic AR-15 and put it into a frame that looks like a mid-19th Century musket. Now magically it is no longer an assualt rifle just because of its looks, at least according to Merriam-Webster.

Oh, I get it. If we cannot solve a problem completely, we shouldn't try.

Oh, I get it. If we don't have an argument, we should just build a straw man.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@jimizo, they are special designed assault rifles for hunting. can't be used on humans unless technical defect. they are great for stork hunting as the design allows multiple rounds sent in many directions and if take up the special coupon offer, you can get a 10% discount at walmar, and with a family discount pass card, if your children are under 12 years old, a 20% discount.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Which requires more time, effort, and money. Oh, I get it. If we cannot solve a problem completely, we shouldn't try.

Try in a different way is the point that you should be taking. Firearms are only getting easier and cheaper to make as time goes by. Gun control in the way you are arguing is just delaying the inevitable and I would argue that inevitability is coming much faster than anyone anticipated with the rise of 3d printers.

Why are felons hired and promoted at major hospitals is the real question.

Because if you are going to allow felons back into society, they don't have a life sentence or on death row, then you need to integrate them back into society and if you shun them from quality jobs then the odds of them committing crimes is higher than if they had a quality job.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Give everyone guns and you just raise the suicide, homicide, and massacre rate by 10 fold.

Ah yes the hyperbole argument. Seeing as the overall gun death rate in the USA is one hundredth of one percent of the USA population that means even if the one hundredth of one percent is 10 times what it would be if everyone didn't have guns you would still for the most part trivial odds that you would be killed in any given year from a gun.

How about we let the experts do that?Definition of assault rifle: any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire; also : a rifle that resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire

Yes lets have the experts do the definition. The experts definition(Military) is a selective fire magazine fed rifle that has an effective range of around 330 yards

The non-expert definition is the semi-automatic only rifle that resembles a selective fire rifle, historically they, gun control groups, used the term "assault weapon" and now the media just conflates the two.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/06/the_media_keeps_misfiring_when_it_writes_about_guns.html

A perfect example of where you have a word that is considered correct but by experts is not correct is the words:

Acceleration and Deceleration.

If you have ever taken a course in Physics you would know that the term acceleration just means a change in speed or direction, in other words if you are slowing down you are accelerating, if you are increasing in speed you are also accelerating, if you are changing direction but maintaining speed you are also accelerating. There is no such thing as deceleration.

The non-expert definition is that acceleration just means you are increasing your velocity only and when you are slowing down you are "decelerating" and if you just change your direction but don't change speed then you are doing neither accelerating or decelerating.

all guns should be banned. why do i need a gun? i don't wanna kill anybody.

But there are people that want the things you have and may even want to kill you for them. Wouldn't it be prudent to be able to defend yourself since the police can't be everywhere every minute of the day?

Assault weapons ban nationwide. No more military weapons on our streets!

Yeah, because it isn't like he couldn't have done the same thing with a pistol. And please define just what an "assault rifle" is.

No, they won't disappear, but the numbers also won't increase.

Target shooting?

Needs are irrelevant, the need argument only works if you are claiming that people should not be allowed to own wants.

Oh it's so tuff living in a free society. The Europeans who have caused so much destruction in the and world have now decided to throw away the gun and sell it instead, meanwhile accepting a population that has zero understanding of western culture. Good luck! Our 241 year old country will not tolerate or roll over to some fantasy of inclusiveness. Thank god.
