It seems 2500 passengers and crew will be quarantined for 14 days in the ship. And wait and see what happens next. Meanwhile all nations better send planes and rescue their citizens as soon as possible from there before they become more infected in the bad incubator. I heard half of them are Americans.

"Unless you are ill, you have no need to buy a mask," Pence said

He ain't lyin'.

I wish Abe would say that to all the healthy Japanese people wearing masks.

"Unless you are ill, you have no need to buy a mask,"

Jeezzzzz, i said that since 1 month. Japan... can ya hear that? Also... go easy with the tissu paper, i am almost out of stock!

Is there any chance that Trump uses the Corona virus as a reason to cancel the upcoming elections if he feels he is going to lose? What would it take to do that? A state of emergency? Marshal Law? Or is that something that a president can do, or does congress have to approve it?

What do not kill the coronavirus, will only make it stronger, by it offspring Streptococcus, Meningococcal, Pneumococcal

@Yrral

What do not kill the coronavirus, will only make it stronger, by it offspring Streptococcus, Meningococcal, Pneumococcal

All of the supposed offsprings predate the virus.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

JJ ,these will be bacterial pathogens, spawn as secondary infection from the virus

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

JJ, you are flat out lying, the CDC never said, that was from obscure researchers, only a few maybe, this virus is been spreading by American who went abroad and infected their intercircle, their is no massive outbreak in Black and Hispanics, and Whites being the number 1 spreaders from their travel abroad ,Egypt is spreader now

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

Trump listening to right wing nut, who he need to lie to his supporters, encourage Trump to delay a response,

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

And Trump continues to downplay it as if there was no problem.

Just like any good dictator.

3 ( +12 / -9 )

Why does Trump share his 'hunches' with Hannity instead of speaking formally to the nation through all media.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

YrralToday 02:46 pm JST

Whites being the number 1 spreaders from their travel abroad

That's not true, its mainly those of Asian descent who have travelled to the high risk areas then travelled to another Country or to their new adopted Country in the West.

At least there is a decisive leader in full command of the facts at the helm. Here is Trump displaying his insight just a day ago on the mortality rate of COVID-19:

"Well, I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. Now, and this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this. Because a lot people will have this and it's very mild. They'll get better very rapidly. They don't even see a doctor. They don't even call a doctor," Trump said.

"You never hear about those people. So you can't put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and — or virus. So you just can't do that. So if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work but they get better."

Thanks Donnie!

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Hunches seem to be taking precedence over the facts.

I'd rather hear from the experts, unless the King is a doctor, as well as everything else?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

I'd rather hear from the experts, unless the King is a doctor

Trump has interesting theories on health. He once pronounced that exercise is bad for you. He seems to regard the body as a battery with a finite level of energy.

His theory isn’t shared by many doctors but they are probably fake doctors, or MSM stooges or globalists or something like that.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Trump:  Nobody understand coronavirus better than me.  Trust me, it's a democratic hoax.  The scientists, what do they know?  Next thing you know they will be telling you the world is round.  If the stock markets fall, it will be because of the democratic hoax.  Nothing to do with me.  The democrats want you to die.  Joe Biden said yesterday he hoped lots of people would die.   But trust in me.  Nobody understands coronavirus better than me.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

And Trump continues to downplay it as if there was no problem.

It seems to me Trump doesn't care about such virus at all. He does care a lot about election only. I guess Grand Princess ship would be 2nd Diamond Princess or much worse.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Our Demented Old Fool of a President continues to make himself look clueless and put more Americans in danger...

Besides offering his "stable genius" view that the WHO death data is wrong, and that "it's much lower", now he's now telling people to "go to work" even when they have symptoms...

A lot of people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor. They don’t even call a doctor. You never hear about those people. So you can’t put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and/or virus. So you just can’t do that. So, if you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work. Some of them go to work, but they get better.

https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/donald-trump-coronavirus-work-reaction-095155632.html

I thought his had to be a Colbert or Trevor Noah late night joke, but its true - Trump said it to Hannity...

Anyone think this germophobe would let anyone inside the WH if they were coughing?

This Moron is a clear and present danger to the Republic, just as Mattis said...

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Kissing for each other seems the biggest problem in America/Europe. Face mask is not a problem. Husband and wife kiss each other. Husband/wife kiss children. Husbands go work and kiss female coworkers there. Wives go work and kiss male coworkers there. Kids go to schools and kiss their boyfriends/girlfriends each other. Coronavirus would definitely spread out all over. Just don't kiss any more!

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

A lot of people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor. They don’t even call a doctor. You never hear about those people.

I know Trump thinks in mysterious ways, ways the everyday person can't fathom. But if 'you never hear about those people', and 'they don't even see a doctor' how can their 'mild' cases be known. Is he saying the too many spook agencies are keeping such close track of 330,000,000 millions of Americans spread out over 3,797,000 mi² that they know how many people living there are and aren't sick with this particular virus. Or is he talking about people like those he saw dancing in New Jersey after 911. If he's trying to calm share holders, does he really think they're so thick they'd believe him?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Bye bye cruise industry! Shame!

1 ( +3 / -2 )

now he's now telling people to "go to work" even when they have symptoms...

Exactly where did he tell people to go to work with the virus? Certainly not in this statement. In fact, there is not a single falsehood in this statement (except in his numbers, where he is speculating). So why all the excitement over it?

Fact: Many, of not most people, have mild symptoms. Many or even most of those will not see a doctor and thus will not be recorded as having contracted the virus. People with very mild symptoms will most likely continue to go to work, as people do. "Some of them go to work" is an observation, not a suggestion or command by any stretch. In common English it means "some people get better even though they continue to go to work." Rather bizarre that the media interprets that as "go to work" and so few people challenge it. Cultish behavior.

When the expansion of testing for Covid19 from a highly restricted group (only those who have traveled to places where generalized testing, or the adoption of a standard of those showing the symptoms indicative of Covid19 infection, even though those symptoms are not exclusive to Covid19 infection, shows it is circulating in the general population) to a more generalized group (those who have sought medical services and have those symptoms) results in a significant number of positive results, you're not really seeing an increase in how many people are infected, you're seeing the beginning of an acknowledgement of the epidemic that was ongoing.

PS, seeing as Iran is so often mentioned as an outbreak location despite the relatively small number of positive tests, it needs to be pointed out that the government response (increase in the production of the supplies needed to safely treat the infected, or to disinfect places they've been, as well as to expand the capability to provide medical services to the infected requiring hospital level treatment) preceded the beginning of the expansion to more generalized testing, rather than lagging behind it.

Hummmm, 8 Billion$!??

It's going to take much more than that, Bush and his war mongers spent 2 trillion $ over a LIE, what's the problem in allocating 1 Trillion$ so scientists can get to work and defeat this monster.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Exactly where did he tell people to go to work with the virus? Certainly not in this statement. In fact, there is not a single falsehood in this statement (except in his numbers, where he is speculating). So why all the excitement over it?

Need glasses? What does this say?

So, if you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work. Some of them go to work, but they get better.*

Get better by going to work? He didn't tell them to "stay home if you think you're infected so you don't infect everyone else" - which is exactly what his CDC experts say.

He's playing politics with the American public's health - trying to downplay the virus and dodge criticism of his dismal handling so far and his dismantling of our medical prevention and response capabilities, i.e., hiring freeze on CDC, cutting their budget, abolishing the Office of Pandemic Prevention...

Cultish behavior.

You sure got that right - I assume you wear a "Q" badge?

* Some of them go to work, but they get better.**

"Get better by going to work?"

Sorry, maybe you haven't read it carefully. "But" means pretty much the opposite of what you seem to think it means. "They go to work, but they get better." This suggests they get better even though they go to work. Your statement, "Get better by going to work" suggests that work cures them. Essentially the opposite of what Trump said. This is basic English, not a matter of opinion.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

You sure got that right - I assume you wear a "Q" badge?

I had to Google that. Interesting trivia for people into conspiracies, but I had no clue what it meant until you used it. All a bit much fantasy for me, though, thanks.

This is basic English, not a matter of opinion.

You missed the point - the CDC says specifically to NOT go to work - so why is this idiot saying ""some people go to work, but they get better"? He should be saying they shouldn't have gone to work at all.

*Stay home except to get medical care. People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to isolate at home during their illness. You should restrict activities outside your home, except for getting medical care. Do not go to work, school, or public areas. Avoid using public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis.*

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/steps-when-sick.html

This is just another example of the bungled and botched response to this pandemic by Trump - he says one thing, his medical experts say the complete opposite.

So do you think Trump would let his secretary come to work if she tested positive?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

You missed the point - the CDC says specifically to NOT go to work - so why is this idiot saying ""some people go to work, but they get better"? He should be saying they shouldn't have gone to work at all.

Maybe he should, but that's not what you said. You said that he was telling people they should go to work even with the virus. Now you are on a different topic. You want Trump to say something, fine. But you are also pretending he said the opposite, which he didn't. He was simply stating a fact, which inexplicably seems to outrage many here as further evidence of his "stupidity." It's just bizarre how everybody pretends in lockstep that he said something he clearly didn't. Like I said, cultish.

Maybe he should

No maybe here. “Some people go to work, but they get better” is a factually correct statement but it should have at least been quickly supplemented with something like “Look, I’m not saying people should go to work” when you are the leader of a country dealing with a health emergency. The observation on its own is not clear messaging and could be interpreted by some as a green light to be complacent - not all people have the logical mindset to treat it in isolation. In cases like this you talk to the slowest pupil in the class.

The onus is on him to put a clear message out there. The fact that he didn’t can be regarded as recklessness and stupidity.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Well, there are hundreds of examples of his stupidity, this is just one...

And you failed to answer two questions;

Why was he saying something opposite his CD experts?

Do you think he'd let his secretary come to work if she tested positive?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Hopefully, Vice President Mike Pence will visit the nursing facility to get hands on ... information. Certainly, his faith will protect him, unlike all those un-godly heathens.

You're welcome. I see you think its a conspiracy theory and a fantasy - one believed only by Trump supporters, who routinely wave "Q" banners at his rallies...

What do you think of them? Sound like a cult?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump will realised soon that his destructive action in social health care will benefit Xi Jinping propaganda, who is 100 times more clever than him from a global strategic standpoint.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Open minded:

What is "social health care", and what "destructive action" are you talking about?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

But you are also pretending he said the opposite, which he didn't. He was simply stating a fact, which inexplicably seems to outrage many here as further evidence of his "stupidity."

It was clearly far more than just. fact or observation- it was clearly implied that people were doing it and it really didn’t matter. Just look at the tone of the rest of his absurd statement to see that. He disputes the medically accepted mortality rates and downplays the seriousness of the situation. He uses words like “hoax” to describe it.

the man is clearly deranged.

While you're correct that he didn't say to go to work. But other than that it's weird you're defending what is clearly incompetent leadership. What kind of leader gives this as their comments to a country facing the spread of a deadly virus?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

If people are looking for a sensible, reliably effective, low cost and easily implemented response to this outbreak then they need look no further than the thousands of public service announcements that have been disseminated by every level of government in the US, for decades; in response to the yearly flu season.

It all boils down to an enhanced level of personal hygiene with disease prevention as its focus. Viruses of this type are basically transmitted when some spit, from an infected individual, gets on a mucous membrane of an uninfected person.

The human face is target rich environment for these little nasties and studies have shown that an average person, on an average day, touches their face over a thousand times. For the most part, these touches are completely unconscious and it is something that you just can't say "Hey don't do that!". It's just going to happen no matter what.

So the key is in the hands, that's where you take the fight to the bugs. Good old soap and water and a little rubbing does the job quite well. So does hand sanitizer and those wipes that most supermarkets in America provide to wipe down shopping cart handles. The trick is to keep your hands clean and pay attention to where you're putting them. Community wide, OCD level hand washing is murder on viral outbreaks like this, that's why it has been pushed for all these years, it works.

People who are infected and experiencing symptoms can demonstrate a little community spirit by doing something as little as coughing into their shoulder instead of into their hand or into the air. Something real little like that, like conscientious hand washing, can have a profound effect on transmission rates.

If a significant number of people take on sense of personal responsibility in protecting themselves and those close to them, then this thing has a chance of being beat. So don't forget to wash your hands and definitely don't let anyone spit in your eye.

@kwatt

It seems 2500 passengers and crew will be quarantined for 14 days in the ship. And wait and see what happens next

1) The US CDC plans to test all passengers and crew onboard the ship.

2) All who detected positive will be immediately removed from the ship to prevent further spreading.

The difference between Japan and the US is the willingness to test all passengers immediately.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Samit

All passengers are already quarantined in the ship, because the ship can't dock and they can't get out of there now. Yes, they all seem tested in the ship before disembarking. I wonder how long CDC would take to test all passengers, it would take many days. As you see, the ship is kinda same virus incubator as Diamond Princess. If passengers can't disembark in a few days, no doubt the Grand Princess ship would be 2nd Diamond Princess. Nations better rescue their citizens as soon as possible from the ship.
