Good news for 22 million people.

Once again the Republicans are making it clear they only care about those they represent, i.e. those in the top .01 -1% of the country's wealthiest.

This article shows the campaign contributions senate leaders have got from those in the big med industries. No wonder the Republicans continue to hide what they're doing.

http://time.com/money/4825746/ahca-health-care-law-senate/

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife who is the Secretary of Transportation in the Trump administration get yuuuge government paychecks and the highest level health care at the lowest cost.

Drain the swamp!

Taking this bill seriously is a joke.

It has nothing to do with improving health care or access to insurance.

It is about tax cuts for the wealthy, and reducing the social safety net in favor of laissez faire.

Those who vote Republican and for Trump have been scammed, and this is their payoff.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Even the name of this bill is a farce: Better Care Reconciliation Act.

For the most wealthy, billions of dollar in tax breaks.

For the non-wealthy, despair and hardship.

The country should stand for more than just the most wealthiest citizens. Warren Buffet.

Hope constituents give them hell over break.

The ACA is collapsing. That is fact. The "market place" is effectively gone in many parts of the USA. That happened PRIOR to President Trump taking over, BTW.

Medical insurance costs increased under the ACA to be 3x what it was prior to the mandated coverages with a much higher deductible and mandatory coverage for things we'll NEVER USE. We are forced to pay for dental and eye care for our children and pregnancy coverage. We'll never use those in the future, but they are mandated under the ACA, effectively stealing our money.

Health insurance is our largest monthly bill thanks to the ACA - with ZERO health issues. Does your health insurance cost more than your mortgage or car payments? It would under the ACA if anyone here besides me were actually using it.

That is unacceptable, but this site is full of commenters who claim to be experts and aren't actually in the ACA. You need to get educated people.

So you'd rather see higher more rising costs of premiums and people opting out of buying a policy altogether because they can't even pay their policy. Either way, someone is not going to be happy, you can't have both, the system is slowly imploding, so it's either chicken or fish? To make a system that would cover all and to keep premiums low is an enormous challenge, both parties know that, the Dems want to insure everyone SN the GOP wants to keep the premiums low, so how do we get in the middle?

To make a system that would cover all and to keep premiums low is an enormous challenge

Other countries can and have done it. Why can't America? Decent health care for all its citizens would go a long way to making the country 'great'.

No I am saying that a "solution" to current problems that throws tens of millions off of insurance and imposes massive increases in premiums on everyone except the young and healthy is obviously no solution at all. That is what the Republican bill is proposing, so I'm just responding to that. If they had a solution that was better, rather than worse, than Obamacare I would be all ears. They don't.

And it is by no means impossible to make a system that covers all while keeping costs low, every developed country in the world except the United States has already done that. My entire family is well covered by Japan's system and I don't pay much for that coverage. I thank god that I don't live in the US right with what the Republican party has planned.

What Obama did was to ensure all Americans would have health insurance, opposed to many going with out. Other countries have done this for it's own people, why not us?

However it was not perfect, but if he did not do what he did at the time, many more would still be with out and Trump certainly (or who ever would of been picked next in office) would not of even bothered to try to make what was the health care quota then any better. Basically he wants Obama care to go away because it was a Democrat who put it in place. But who the hell wants Trump care!?

I tell you right now I do not want to be forced to have health insurance, especially when I still have to pay for it. The only reason why I am even using my Vet insurance is so they wont charge me extra at tax time.

I also do not feel I should have to pay for other people's health care, but I am also not heartless and if this helps all of Americans as a whole I am fine with it. What Trump is proposing and the majority of the Reps is to destroy Obama care and potentially Trump everyone.

Thankfully some Republicans also realize this. Although I fear Trump care will evetually talk hold, I think it will be much better than what it was originally intended. If it is better then Obama care I am all for it. If just the same then what is the point and only proves Trump just wants to take away what the Dems put in place. If it is even worse then Obama care, it just shows he and the majority of the Republicans truly does not care about America.

"Strange, how just that, has been achieved in quite many other countries."

"How can a country like America, supposedly the richest on the planet, not understand the need of a healthcare system for all of its peoples."

I did not want to quote everything since this is already long, but ditto on everything you said!

"If we don't get it done, it's just going to be something that we're not going to like, and that's okay."

Well, good, then. If it's okay, don't pass it. But even though "that's okay" Trump has threatened to simply "break Obamacare" without any replacement (which they don't have anyway). The fact is they KNOW they are screwed if they vote it, and that's why they've stopped having town hall meetings to face their constituents, who are rightly furious. I hope some are recording their 'summons' to meet Trump, who is more than likely threatening them as he did Comey and others.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

If we don't get it done, it's just going to be something that we're not going to like, and that's okay.

Parse, smith. He's simply referring to the extent of the tax cuts they plan. It has zero to do with health care.

So you'd rather see higher more rising costs of premiums and people opting out of buying a policy altogether because they can't even pay their policy

The bill will result in higher premiums and less people covered.

People not covered will still go to the emergency rooms, and those costs will be pushed off to the people who do have insurance. Which raises the premiums for people who are covered.

Elderly covered currently will be kicked out of their care facilities and burden the working class.

So, based on your statement, I assume you are against the bill.

Either way, someone is not going to be happy,

The billionaires getting huge tax refunds are already happy.

Warren Buffett stands to receive a $600,000 tax refund. What will he do with the refund? Add to his $75B net worth. The Koch brothers will also get similar tax breaks.

The Koch brother's combined wealth is about $96B. They really need a tax break? Bush already gave them a tax break by lowering the dividend and capital gains tax rates, which incidentally didn't change their investment behavior. The ACA's 3.8% tax on investment income doesn't come close to removing the effects of Bush's tax cut.

Buffett said that America should have universal health care. The annual cost of medical care to GDP has continued to rise from about 5% in 1980 to now 15%. Either the government controls health care, or the US is done for.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Surprise surprise. It would have been pushing the bounds of treason to have passed something so self destructive to the nation as this. That only a few rube cowards managed to stand up for themselves highlights the severe moral and ethical weakness of today's rube. They need to be drained

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Republicans did their darndest to hobble or kill Obamacare. They did nothing to work with Democrats to make it better, improve it, fix it and did everything to sabotage it. You can't scream "oh the humanity!" after you've helped shove the baby off the cliff. So Republicans own the current state of healthcare. They are the majority in Congress. They have the presidency. Whether they keep sabotaging Obamacare or pass their own abomination of a "healthcare" bill, it's theirs now.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Whether they keep sabotaging Obamacare or pass their own abomination of a "healthcare" bill, it's theirs now.

Nope. It has always been Big insurance, Med and Pharma. This Rep/Dem thing is just for show. I'd like to know one politician that hasn't taken their bribe..oh wait, lobbying cash. Only Nader that I know of, who was sued and sued and sued by the DNC to stop him from becoming president. So, Dems are just as guilty for sucking up to these corporate pigs.

No excuses please.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Nope. Like it or not, Republicans own it now. Sucks but that's the way it is.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Anyone else tired of winning yet? That aside, it's great to see compassionate conservatism at work.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Fizz,

Only Nader that I know of, who was sued and sued and sued by the DNC to stop him from becoming president. So, Dems are just as guilty for sucking up to these corporate pigs.

Maybe ya should have voted Lincoln Chafee, Fizz.

Instead of throwing your support behind Goldman Sachs, US warmonger hegemony and sweetheart deals with Saudi Arabia.

Heh. Fields was right, it's morally wrong to allow a sucker to keep his money. And believe me, the big government admin of Trump is all a bout screwing the little silly poor man that voted for him expecting drainage of the swamp.....

Instead of throwing your support behind Goldman Sachs, US warmonger hegemony and sweetheart deals with Saudi Arabia.

Ha! This explains Hillary exactly. We probably wouldn't even be here now if the quintessential war/poverty profiteer was elected. We'd be nuke dust by now.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

If we strip free healthcare away from the military, will that lower my premiums? I figure if we can strip it from children to save some cash then we'd save a lot by doing the same with the military.

I'm just looking out for #1 here. I support lower taxes and the last thing we want is big government medicine screwing things up for our soldiers. And, you know, it's the principal of the matter.

Nope. It explains your boy, Trump. Whore for the warmongers and the 0.1%.

I can't disagree with this, except for the part about Trump being my boy.

Next week, 4th July, America will be 241 years old but still unable to create a universal affordable healthcare even though it spends the highest amount per citizen in the world.

Somebody has to rule the world. Would you prefer Kim threatening people with nuclear inhalation every hour? Or the Chinese turning the world into one big toxic market place? Or the Africans...skip that. Or the Russians...skip that too. Sarc off/

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

The Republicans are revolting ... aren't they though! The US needs a national health service that is based on providing healthcare, not on profiteering from people's illnesses and injuries. The companies are ONLY interested in the checks rolling in each month. Any actual claims are just cynically denied, and the 'customer' has NO RECOURSE. Shame on the US.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@mukashiyokatta

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Dems and Obama had the chance to start implementing a national health care system. Obama didn't. He chose his side with the insurance companies and their lobby money,

Tell me you anti-Trumpologists it's not true.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Dems are not perfect, but a whole heck of a lot better than the Reps when it comes to helping all or "most" Americans and the World, while Republicans are mainly worried only for the elites, not even the majority of those Reps who support them.

If we came together as was originally intended, with our differences, but for the common good, focusing on helping one another, giving a helping hand instead of always trying to dismantel the other parties intentions and always fighting one another, we would be the greatest nation on earth.

Instead we are viewed as an entity that is diagnosed with Bi-polar Disorder. We help an outside nation or even try to help our selves one moment and then four or eight years later try to reverse everything and make everything worse while "claiming" to "make America great again". How pathetic this once great nation has become... George Washington and all our founding fathers must be turning in their graves...

There are a lot of senate Republicans that love big government and lack the courage of their stated convictions. I cannot see how they will be able to give up the money train for the good of the country and risk re-election. Big spending politicians like Susan Collins, Dean Heller, and Rob Portman will never agree to a real reform. They are too different from people like Mike Lee, Ted, Cruze, and Rand Paul. Obamacare will continue to get worse and worse and the federal government will remain paralyzed to do anything about it. I think there are only two realistic paths forward. 1) a money pit single payer system as the Dems want, 2) block grants so that each state can develop there own solution suited to their peoples needs and beliefs. Single payer will further the decline of the health care system begun by previous government interventions including Obamacare. Block grants give more Americans a choice to get what they want.

You do understand that "big government" isn't a real thing, right? It's a catchphrase Republicans started using. Each situation has a different set of facts and variables, and that's how it should be examined. There's no "guiding hand of conservatism" involved.

block grants so that each state can develop there own solution suited to their peoples needs and beliefs.

Block grants = reduced funding. The GOP just came up with a nifty way to make it sound benign. The above should read, "reduced funding so that each state can develop their own solution suited to their peoples needs and beliefs." The first part doesn't match up at all with the last part. Since no one understands block grants they assume it's good since what follows is something positive, in this case developing their own solutions.

You have got to be kidding me! Dear lord....bless the left, looks ya'll be building log cabins in the wilderness

You really think so?

Blocking is reducing. So what's your beef?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Even with your misinformed guess, the statement still makes no sense:

"reducing grants so that each state can develop their own solution suited to their peoples needs and beliefs."

Oh, and big government. I think that about covers it.
