It's time for folks to stop calling Trump a buffoon or a clown. Someone who mocks the mayor of London after the death of innocents is simply evil. Call him what he is. Evil.

34 ( +48 / -14 )

Mayor Kahn's advice not to be alarmed is not the best.

After this attack, it seems that London's security is not quite what it should be with an increasing number of incidents leading to fatalities

-29 ( +10 / -39 )

Whilst my views on Islam are what they are, Sadiq Khan is an easy target for many people angry about what is happening. I do think though he bears some culpability. There are things about his background that are of concern given alleged connections with Islamic extremists.

-33 ( +8 / -41 )

The quote about not being alarmed was concerning the increased police presence following the attacks - Had nothing to do with what Trump implied.

38 ( +41 / -3 )

Making sure that London has adequate security to prevent these attacks is something the mayor is responsible for.

Mayor Kahn needs to address these issues;what Trump says or doesn't say is not that relevant concerning the matter.

-28 ( +2 / -30 )

a few days after his administration said killing civilians in the middle east in their war against IS is just what happens, he is criticising a mayor who is doing great things, and the british police and security services who are stopping hundreds of attacks. I wonder if their is religious motive for his tweet?

22 ( +24 / -2 )

Sadly we are in an age where everything is taken out of context and used for whatever purpose or agenda they have in mind. Trump should have kept his mouth shut.

Call him what he is. Evil.

If Trump is evil, then what adjective do you use to describe the terrorists who actually killed these people?

Trump isn't "evil", he hasn't killed anyone (yet) not even close....ignorant and childish are much better terms to use with him, in my opinion. Not childlike, but, stubborn, ignorant, childish.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Not sure why Trump is inserting himself into the situation.

19 ( +23 / -4 )

He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump's ill-informed twee

Trump's claim to comprehend things better than, well, everyone, is on display again.

Khan should rise above it. Trump trolling trash at this busy time is unhelpful and annoying but that's the nature of the beast.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If I see loads of police with machine guns in paramilitary style uniforms then I am not going to feel 'reassured'

It is obvious that there is a dearth of intelligence on the problem at hand.

The SAS has also been deployed to try and contain the problem.

Trump's advice to remain vigilant has more relevance than the mayor of London who has also said that terror attacks are to be expected when living in London-personally, I don't accept that!

Yubaru Today  07:09 am JST

If Trump is evil, then what adjective do you use to describe the terrorists who actually killed these people?

Trump isn't "evil", he hasn't killed anyone (yet)

I have 9 children in Yemen who would like to speak to you. Actually there are probably more waiting, I'm just talking about Trump's first major military action as President.

In fact, let's contemplate that number for a moment - 9 dead children. Even if they're dead by incompetent planning rather than due to malicious intent, that still means that just the "innocent children" body count column of this one military maneuver outnumbers the entire body count of these London attacks.

Which is a testament to how excellently the London security forces did their job.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Exploiting tragedy for the sake of his own political agenda, carelessly at least if not intentionally misconstruing an ally's words within hours of horrific tragedy. May not be evil but it's certainly vile. If you think he's not rubbing his hands together contemplating how he'd exploit a domestic incident of this nature, you ought to be. He'll make Bush-Cheney-Ashcroft look like elder statesmen. I imagine him standing at the gates of internment camps, presiding over lynch mobs. Our Morlock in chief.

21 ( +22 / -1 )

OK, they shouldn't be "alarmed." But they should be angry. This crisis was preventable, after all.

-20 ( +4 / -24 )

Not childlike, but, stubborn, ignorant, childish.

Fully agree. But that’s to be expected from a spoiled class brat who’s always had someone clean up after he’s made messes. Trump’ss over 70 but seems to be reverting back to 7 when mummy, daddy and the family servants coddled him.

Trump isn't “evil”

IF he’s colluding with Putin and oligarchs worldwide to gain more wealth for himself and his family, IF he’s going to start wars to benefit himself, his family and like-minded oligarchs worldwide, IF he’s going to sell off US assets (like Putin did in Russia) for his family’s gain, IF he’s going to attempt to strip away environmental protections, worker’s rights and consumer’s rights that protect the 99% for the benefit of the 1%, among other IFs, I’d say he’s evil.

what adjective do you use to describe the terrorists who actually killed these people?

Pure evil

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Trump thought London mayor Khan was talking about the heightened terror gripping the city.

But in fact, this is what Khan said: "Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. There’s no reason to be alarmed."

So unless Trump wants the Londoners to be alarmed that there's an increased police presence in their city, Trump prematurely yapped without thinking, like the "terrorist attack" in the Philippine casino.

Foot, meet mouth - again.

We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 3, 2017

-

Glad we both agree the ban is a ban. https://t.co/p1qXkffyIL

— ACLU National (@ACLU) June 4, 2017

12 ( +14 / -2 )

We must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people. If we don't get smart it will only get worse,

Unfortunately, the clown president is right on this even if he is wrong on nearly everything else. Anyone who denies this is just as big of a clown.

After an attack like this there are so many other issues we should be discussing rather than Donald Trumps twitter spats. For example, it's time to start discussing a ban on all foreign funding of religious institutions (mosques, schools etc.), such as Austria is implementing. We don't allow foreign Saudi money to interfere in our political campaigns so I don't see why foreign money should be allowed to interfere in the spiritual lives of our citizens.

We need to severely limit immigration from countries that have a proven track record of poor integration (this is not religious discrimination). The seeds of the problem we are facing today has its roots in the scope, speed and failed immigration policies of the past and we need to admit this. We can get all the diversity and multiculturalism we need from places like Bolivia, India and Thailand.

We must also radically reform the welfare system that financially supports the segregated religious neighbourhoods which harbour and raise these terrorists. We should be pushing people at risk of segregation into mandatory work placements in the wider secular society.

In the European union we should harmonise the time it takes to become a citizen and increase it to 10+ years instead of the 4 or 5 in some countries. We could also introduce elements of the Swiss model where your neighbours get to vote on whether you have integrated enough to gain citizenship. Perhaps proving that you have friends of differing religions or the opposite sex could earn you extra points towards citizenship in some sort of points based system?

Above all we need to stop trying to silence people with reasonable concerns and sensible proposals with cries of Islamophobia and racism.

-9 ( +6 / -15 )

Opportunism at its most disgusting.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

Let's not kid ourselves. Until western nations seize and dissist from coddling the largest known exporter of terrorism aka saudi and its ilk, this is going to be a frequent occurrence. No amount of facebook profile changes and empty words aimed skywards is going to amount to any real change. There. That's the solution!!

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Mayor Kahn needs to address these issues;what Trump says or doesn't say is not that relevant concerning the matter.

Bingo! And while Europeans pretend that this will blow over or they can carry on business as usual, the terrorists feel emboldened and that they can keep on doing this with impunity, time to take the heads out of the sand, have a serious discussion and go after this aggressively as you can, otherwise the situation will only get worse.

-25 ( +4 / -29 )

He is being more and more a troll than a president and should take care of his own issues before criticizing others, there have been 2 persons murdered recently in Oregon, when will he take care of white supremacist terrorism ?

11 ( +14 / -3 )

After the Manchester fiasco when America leaked photos of the bomb and other evidence which police did not want to officially release yet because of security reasons, I'd be hesitant to share anything with America. Who knows, things could end up in the Kremlin.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

By the way, I think Khan makes a refreshing change from the buffoon London had as mayor last time - someone out of touch with the ordinary Londoners.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

@Jefflee This crisis was preventable....please explain how im interested..

In a nutshell, a more responsible, focused, enforcable and intelligent immigration policy, and less tolerance for the development and growth of racial/religious enclaves that received a light-touch approach by police and others, particularly in the leadup to 9/11.

If you know your postwar British history, you'll know that multiculturalism was never an intended policy. It was an unintended consequence from the poorly conceived British Nationality Act of 1948 (which was amended, albiet too late)

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

How can Trump criticise anyone, especially after bragging about a billion dollar arms sale to the Saudis ?

A tad hypocritical there, Eh Donny ?

13 ( +15 / -2 )

Typical Trump. Both stupid and dishonest. Britain does not need a friend like that.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Remember that time, and the Republicans were freaking out because they thought their president had made America the laughingstock of the world.

And remember that time, when they voted in a president who actually did make America the laughingstock of the world, and they all either remained silent or defended him?

10 ( +12 / -2 )

"He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump's ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police - including armed officers - on the streets," the spokesperson said.

Why indeed? The government has decided to place more police, armed officers, on the streets of London BECAUSE there are repeated radical islamist terrorist attacks on the streets of London. A guess London Mayor Sadiq Khan wants people to ignore the fact that radical Islamic terrorist attacks are actually taking place. The armed officers are there to better deal with terrorists. Please don't be alarmed by the presence of armed officers. Please don't be alarmed by the NEED for more armed officers.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan could have chosen to put more police, armed officers, on the streets of London after the previous attack. Or after the attack before that one. What was he waiting for? What took so long?

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

Trump putting the boot in, all class.

Never a good time to take a statement out of context, rephrase and 'tweet' about it but in this case i.e few hours after such tragedy, it's particularly tasteless. Poor form.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Donny really puts the ass in class.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Trump is such a loser it really isn't funny. It's stupid enough for the POTUS tweet something without confirming the facts or context, but what about when he impulsively decides to wage war. Scary and quite conceivable. How much embarrassment can people in the US take before making sure Trump's tenure as POTUS is as brief as possible?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

People could just ignore Trump, but then they would have to think about how to solve the security crisis in Britain. Of course, then they could blame the security services and lack of preventative measures taken on their part for dealing with the situation.

All of this ignores the bleeding obvious, which is that if anything or anyone is to blame, it is the British politicians for turning a blind eye to the growth of extremist ideology, and the tendency for them to wring their hands after a terrorist incident, but then forget about it a few weeks later when it comes time to vote in stricter policies to deal with the worsening situation.

Out of context or not, "don't be alarmed," is indeed a frightening thing to hear from the mayor of London. He should be saying the exact opposite because this is not normal, and it should never have led to this.

Does he want this lowering of the public's guard to become the new normal? Should armed police in London be nothing to get worked up over? This is indeed a sad state of affairs, and one on which I hate to say that I agree with Donald Trump, but nevertheless have to. Even out of context.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

of context or not, "don't be alarmed," is indeed a frightening thing to hear from the may

ermm? Context doesn't matter? Of course it matters. We don't get to just misconstrue words and make people out to have said things actually didn't.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

If I am being charitable: Trump is a self-serving tone deaf idiot.

Hopefully, everyone knows that by now.

Luckily, American's who are not soulless are expressing compassion after the attacks and not trying to use the tragedy to benefit themselves.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

You have to admit though that Trump actually held back a little being that the London mayor is Muslim and all. That tweet is nothing compared to what he could have actually said.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

People could just ignore Trump, but then they would have to think about how to solve the security crisis in Britain. Of course, then they could blame the security services and lack of preventative measures taken on their part for dealing with the situation.

The security services are already coping with an immense workload with the jihadist threat and have to prioritise. The Westminster Bridge killer was known to them but they had their hands full with potential jihadis elsewhere. They've done a great job uncovering scores of plots, but some will inevitably slip through. What can you do to prevent a van load of jihadis with knives causing mayhem?

May has come under fire for slashing the number of police officers as Home Secretary but I'm not sure even thousands of extra police can deal with this.

The Muslim community needs to stand up to the plate here, talk honestly about the religion and the terrorists coming out of its community, get off the all too frequent defensive back foot and claim Islamophobia at honest questions. That's the only possible way to deal with this but in all honesty, I'm not optimistic.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

It is easier to attack Trump and what he said than it is to realize he is right and do something about it. Political correctness keeps getting people killed. All the concert performers speaking about how LOVE will solve all of this blah blah. Another benefit, another hashtag, more flowers and candles and singing together about unity, its just not working.

Did anyone see the fake CNN staging of Muslims protesting against what happened in order to push the not all Muslims narrative? Did anyone hear the Mayor of London actually say that London is one of, if not THE, safest global city? Yet we are talking about what Trump (correctly) said?

-16 ( +2 / -18 )

It's the mayor of London who seems to have held back on providing the extra security, and more armed officers on the street, that the NOT-radical-Islamic-terrorist residents of London require. It's seems easier to blame Trump for the failures of the Mayor Khan?

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Mayor Khan is STILL not alarmed. Safest global city in the WORLD he says. So I guess in the name of political correctness, people have to keep dying. Its really sad that no one will do anything. The kindness of European countries is being used against them to kill their own citizens. Complain about Trump all you want, but he is not willing to allow that to happen to America even if that means people criticize him and make fun of him for it.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

So what kind of ban do rightists want?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Complain about Trump all you want, but he is not willing to allow that to happen to America

He seems perfectly fine with the Saudis continuing their campaign of spreading hateful religious ideas in the US and elsewhere.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

He seems perfectly fine with the Saudis continuing their campaign of spreading hateful religious ideas in the US and elsewhere.

You have to pick your sides and from the partners that are available, it seems the USA has sided with the Saudis for now. But dont act like its something new that Trump started. Maybe if people would finally stop this Russia nonsense the USA and Russia could get together and do some great things.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Remember that time, and the Republicans were freaking out because they thought their president had made America the laughingstock of the world.

By his weakness, I sure do.

And remember that time, when they voted in a president who actually did make America the laughingstock of the world, and they all either remained silent or defended him?

But most of us don't really care. As long as Trump puts America first, I'm good.

The Muslim community needs to stand up to the plate here, talk honestly about the religion and the terrorists coming out of its community, get off the all too frequent defensive back foot and claim Islamophobia at honest questions. That's the only possible way to deal with this but in all honesty, I'm not optimistic.

Neither am I.

-18 ( +1 / -19 )

Yes, disgraceful. Just to clarify - both the Clintons and Trump are complicit in allowing the Saudis to pump out murderous, intolerant beliefs worldwide. Is that it?

Their murderous, intolerant beliefs as you call them are religion based. So they seem to be exempt from any public scrutiny as everyone says that love will somehow overcome those.

Why are you talking about Russia here?

Because if all this Russia collusion nonsense would be settled once and for all, the USA could make more deals with Russia and less deals with the Saudis. Right now, Trump cant even speak to a Russian much less make deals with them.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

Wow, way to go in taking things out of context. Also, what a way to promote the stupid travel ban. Weren't the attackers in Manchester and London British, as in, hold British passports? Is Trump going to ban the UK from travelling to the US then? Or is this really about racially profiling people, regardless of where they're from? I have a feeling Trump and his supporters dislike London's mayor for at least one obvious reason.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Mayor Khan is STILL not alarmed

See, even you are twisting what Khan said to further an agenda.

It should be obvious for the literate and those without an agenda what Khan was talking about.

The real agenda should be solidarity and not feeding the terrorists' goal, to create fear and terror. I'm not saying to ignore the attack, but don't play into the terrorists' goal of creating terror. It only encourages them. Trump is encouraging additional attacks by trying to instill fear in his constituents and increase support for his isolationist policies.

Instead, the goal needs to be strengthening rules against hate speech and banning citizens from visiting certain areas known to be bastions of terrorism, like Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, and maybe Western Pakistan without a legitimate purpose and advance approval. However, such a ban will not stop all the home brew terrorists, which have been the real threat in America.

Terrorism will be with us for decades to come. 9/11 and Al Qaeda were only the beginning of a 40 to 50 year war against terrorism, and it will not end anytime soon. It certainly got worse by attacking and destabilizing Iraq. Bombs and missiles will not result in a magic end to terrorism, but neither will granting ISIS a caliphate in Syria or Iraq. Their goal like Al Qaeda and the Taliban are an end to non-believers, and there is no placating that kind of mentality.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Oh, but when I said things Trump said were taken out of context all I heard was screw you and screw Trump, he said it and we can take it any way that we want to take it. We can in fact even make up what he meant, because we all know he is evil/hateful/racist/blah blah people said. But now everyone cares about context now when it suits them.

I dont dislike the mayor. But how can he get NO push back from any media when he says on TV that London is the safest global city in the world? That is either a bald faced lie or gross incompetence. Others supporting him on TV were saying that everything is ok because it is not as bad as France and Belgium. really? is this a contest now instead of doing something to fix the problem?

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

@ThePBot

Trump and his supporters dislike London's mayor for at least one obvious reason.

Yep. He's a Londoner and yet a self-confessed Liverpool fan. The worst sort.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Right now, Trump cant even speak to a Russian much less make deals with them.

The investigation isn't slowing Trump down. Wow, in case you haven't noticed:

He is giving Russia back two U.S. properties used to attack the presidential election. Normally, this would never happen until reparations are made or there was some other exchange. It is unpresidented.

He invited two high ranking Russians into the White House oval office. Unpresidented.

He gave them classified information from Israel that wasn't supposed to be shared with anyone, especially not Russia. Unpresidented.

And his son-in-law is seeking financing from Russia to bail him out. Like father-in-law like son-in law.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

But how can he get NO push back from any media when he says on TV that London is the safest global city in the world? That is either a bald faced lie or gross incompetence.

I don't know why this is such an issue for you. He's a London mayor and a salesman for the city - he will lie to sell something. You like to use the word 'hyperbole' when dealing with Trump's scrolling list of ridiculous lies

Just put it down to 'hyperbole'.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Trump sees everything as an opportunity, to be Trump. Pay little notice of this opportunist creep.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

This is the equivalent of reaping the whirlwind. Allowing unfettered immigration while at the same time restricting peoples' economic freedom was and is a recipe for disaster. From the banlieu of Paris to the burbs of Londonistan, there are festering pools if discontent that are easily exploited by ISIS. Saying this is not Islam is simply untrue. It IS Islam, to a great number of people.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Blacklabel:. But how can he get NO push back from any media when he says on TV that London is the safest global city in the world? That is either a bald faced lie or gross incompetence.

Kind of like some things Trump has said. But you don't seem to enjoy the media pushing back here in the US.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I understand that there is no reason for alarm when people see armed policemen on the street and in places they wouldnt normally be. Police are generally there for our protection. But what is being overlooked is that there IS DEFINITELY a reason to be alarmed as to the reason why they are there. You know, the reason being that armed Islamic terrorists wont stop blowing up people, running over people with vans and stabbing them to death.

I dont like the the Mayor is trying to hide behind his don't be alarmed statement by claiming its only about police presence. Ok, that part is true but dont you also want to talk honestly about WHY they are there and what they are trying to prevent from happening again? I think nearly any other person in his position would, but he cant.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

Kind of like some things Trump has said.

Yep they call him out every.single.time and even make up things that he didnt even say or take it out of context. Why does the Mayor of London get a pass?

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

But how can he get NO push back from any media when he says on TV that London is the safest global city in the world?

The statement was a bit of hyperbole to lessen the impact of the terrorists' goal, to create terror.

Still, London is considered to one of the top 20 safest cities in the world. Tokyo is usually at the top.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Yep they call him out every.single.time and even make up things that he didnt even say or take it out of context.

There is no need to make up things about Trump or take things he says out of context. He says enough to hang ten ordinary men.

The only context that makes sense out of what he says is garden variety stupidity.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Agree with Viking, nothing needs to be made up to discredit Trump. He does a very good job on his own. I am still amazed he is tweeting!

On the other hand have to call out Khan on his statement about London being the safest global city. Are you kidding me? Unless he has a very limited definition of a global city...

In this case they are both full of it and Trump should have kept his trap shut (except for sending condolences).

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Ok, so its hyperbole not a lie. I can live with that because that is what Trump does too. You are saying I need to accept what the Mayor meant, not what he said. He said nothing about Top 20 safest, but thats what he meant when he said THE safest.

Ok, so lets apply context and infer what a person meant (without looking into any motives) to Trump as well from now on.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

I understand that there is no reason for alarm when people see armed policemen on the street and in places they wouldnt normally be. Police are generally there for our protection. But what is being overlooked is that there IS DEFINITELY a reason to be alarmed as to the reason why they are there.

Yes, the aftermath of a terrorist attack is clearly not the time to have a level headed adult running the city. Would be better to have a cowardly baby running around screaming at everyone to be as scared of the world as he is. Like they have in the US at the moment.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

level headed adult running the city.

The guy is trying to downplay the fact that this keeps happening over and over again and will not be solved by candles, hashtags, love and songs of unity. The President of the United States is correctly saying we need to stop hiding behind political correctness, identify who is doing it and take action to stop it. Not just wait until the next one and repeat the same talk and actions.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

But most of us don't really care. As long as Trump puts America first, I'm good.

Another meaningless and infantile cliche.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

The guy is trying to downplay the fact that this keeps happening over and over again and will not be solved by candles, hashtags, love and songs of unity.

Oh right, I forgot about that part where Khan said we need to just light some candles and sing songs and the terrorist problem will go away.

On no, hold on, wait, we live in reality where the guy is overseeing a massive police operation to protect his city while Trump is sitting on his butt typing random garbage into his Twitter feed because thats the only thing he knows how to do. Not that other reality which you seem to inhabit. Thank god for that.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Another meaningless and infantile cliche

To you perhaps, I get it, but to many of us he's doing a great job at it so far, so I'm pleased. Kudos!

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

Londoners and Brits should be alarmed; their greatest ally is being governed by an imbecile

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Trump really does need to shut his pie hole. Khan is trying to reassure people at a time when many need reassuring, and this Twitter troll is twisting his words instead of supporting a supposed ally. Utterly without class.

@Blacklabel

Political correctness keeps getting people killed

No, terrorism kills people.

we need to stop hiding behind political correctness

What does this jibberish even mean? What is this fantasy you have that some nebulous force of 'PC' is preventing action from being taken?

7 ( +9 / -2 )

The guy is trying to downplay the fact that this keeps happening over and over again and will not be solved by candles, hashtags, love and songs of unity.

The terrorists want us to live in fear. The mayor is saying lets not give them what they want.

The President of the United States is correctly saying we need to stop hiding behind political correctness, identify who is doing it and take action to stop it. Not just wait until the next one and repeat the same talk and actions.

Whenever there's a mass shooting in the US and the gun control is mentioned, the right screams "don't make the tragedy political." Trump is being political and using this tragedy to promote his travel ban. Putting the hypocrisy aside, unlike increased gun control which is proven common sense for preventing mass shootings, Trump's travel ban would do little to address the problem of terrorism at its core.

That's not to mention the fact that he continues to use Twitter as a platform to make these statements. He's our president FFS. Why aren't you embarrassed?

11 ( +12 / -1 )

The terrorists want us to live in fear. The mayor is saying lets not give them what they want.

But yet lets also not do anything to prevent them from being able to do the same thing again next week. People SHOULD be in fear until action is taken to prevent it. But to do that the Mayor of London will need to indicate that the people who do this are radical Islamic terrorists and come up with some actions that will target that specific group of people, and he cant and wont. Terrorists dont want us to live in fear, they want us to just accept that it will happen again and actually let them do it again.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Londoners and Brits should be alarmed; their greatest ally is being governed by an imbecile

Thankfully, the leaders of the major parties in the UK are not stupid enough to hitch their wagon to this flaming clown car.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

No, terrorism kills people.

Ok I get it, now lets go one more step. TERRORISTS kill people. So who are these people? Is there any common background or belief that they all have? If so, what can we do about that to change it or eliminate at least the violent part of it from our society?

What does this jibberish even mean? What is this fantasy you have that some nebulous force of 'PC' is preventing action from being taken?

Because no one will take action against the specific group of people who keep doing these acts or even call them out as who they are. They think if these people are shown love and given hugs they will just stop killing us. Yet their doctrine does not allow that and it never will, we are sheep to be slaughtered until they rule the entire world. So that is a fool's errand to think that.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

I don't think that a major terrorist attack like this is the time to be divisive and to criticize a mayor who's trying to organize his city's response to this attack,"

i think it is exacrly the ruggt time considering the muslim mayor's campaign included a statement lik, "because I am Muslim, these attacks will not happen in London"

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Because no one will take action against the specific group of people who keep doing these acts or even call them out as who they are. They think if these people are shown love and given hugs they will just stop killing us. Yet their doctrine does not allow that and it never will, we are sheep to be slaughtered until they rule the entire world. So that is a fool's errand to think that.

Where is it that Khan, or any other political leader, said all we have to do is give hugs and love and terrorists will stop killing? You do understand the difference between dream world and reality, right? In dream world Magnum PI is a real person, the events depicted in both the TV and movie adaptations of the A-Team actually occurred and liberal politicians base their entire counter-terrorism policies on group hugs and sing-alongs.

Reality is different from that. Khan isn't actually trying to find terrorists to hug and read poetry with. He is overseeing a police operation aimed at capturing or killing them. Trump likewise isn't riding a giant bull with an Uzi in each hand through the Middle East shooting everyone he sees (because they are all terrorists there). He is actually just sitting around, probably still exhausted from that European trip in which he had to be driven around in a golf cart to try to keep up with Angela Merkel, typing random garbage into Twitter because that is what he does.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

But yet lets also not do anything to prevent them from being able to do the same thing again next week.

Who said we're not dong anything? You honestly believe any leader wants an attack to happen on their watch? Just because we don't believe in racist travel bans that antagonize moderate Muslims along with the extremeists, doesn't mean we're not doing anything.

But to do that the Mayor of London will need to indicate that the people who do this are radical Islamic terrorists and come up with some actions that will target that specific group of people, and he cant and wont.

I'm willing to call it Muslim extremism/terrorism, but I can understand why leaders choose not to. Again, you'd have to be a fool to believe that that means they're not doing anything. What makes you think officials calling it that would do anything, when experts say it could make things worse?

Terrorists dont want us to live in fear, they want us to just accept that it will happen again and actually let them do it again.

That doesn't make any sense at all.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@Blacklabel,

Where are you getting this absurd notion from that no-one is doing anything? The police and intelligence services are working flat out to prevent attacks, and have prevented over a dozen in the last couple years; sadly, a few have slipped through. It seems with both the Manchester bomber and this London attack, the perpetrators were known to police for holding radical jihadist beliefs and the police had received tip-offs from concerned citizens but failed to act.

This is not because they are 'too PC' to act, it's because they prioritised other threats more highly. They have to do this because they're underfunded, and stretched as a result; they need more resources to deal with the increased threat level, but 7 years of Tory government police cuts have made a difficult job even harder.

What we need is not some daft debate about 'PC'; what we need is more funding for our security services, improvements in how known jihadists are dealt with, and above all an end to the war in Syria. Banging on about 'PC' helps exactly nothing.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Let me say it simplistically. I dont want you to live in fear that I am going to rob your house. I simply want you to keep leaving the door open every night instead of locking it. That way I can keep coming in and taking anything I want as you keep spending your money to replace your stuff, which I also steal.

Terrorists dont care about fear, they care about results. Fear is not on the news, blown up kids and bodies on bridges are. Fear is only good enough if you have no ability to actually attack, but in UK they have proven that ability. An actual attack with casualties wins over just creating fear any day.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

The UK PM, Theresa May, called the problem the "single evil ideology of Islamist extremism”

I'd say that's calling it what it is.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I dont dislike the mayor. But how can he get NO push back from any media when he says on TV that London is the safest global city in the world?

It's the mayor's fault that the media didn't push back?

That is either a bald faced lie or gross incompetence.

I think you meant willful ignorance.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"Trump isn't "evil", he hasn't killed anyone (yet) not even close....ignorant and childish are much better terms to use with him, in my opinion. Not childlike, but, stubborn, ignorant, childish."

If he has given orders to kill or bomb and someone died, he has killed. When he funds Saudi's who support terrorism, he is an accessory to the killing as well.

UK already had police out before this. Even if they hired more police or used military soldiers you would still not be able to cover every spot or stop someone determined to kill others, especially when they are ready to die themselves.

Banning all Muslims is not the answer either. Banning extremism however is. Note I said "extremism", not Islam.

Also Trump has not had any attention in a few days since his last fiasco and misses all the negativity, so he felt the need to be a jerk, while at the same time trying to sale his bad agendas once again.

It's clear the mayor meant not to be alarmed at the extra uniforms on the street. But people should also not be so scared that life can not resume.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

In dream world Magnum PI is a real person, the events depicted in both the TV and movie adaptations of the A-Team actually occurred and liberal politicians base their entire counter-terrorism policies on group hugs and sing-alongs.

It was a dream world?!

Terrorists dont care about fear, they care about results. Fear is not on the news, blown up kids and bodies on bridges are

Now you're a counter-terrorism expert? It's not rocket surgery to understand why terrorists do care about fear. If you are afraid to leave your home, you won't be trying to invade their countries. You also won't be piloting an AC-130 gunship that's leveling a village with its Vulcan canon.

Let me say it simplistically. I dont want you to live in fear that I am going to rob your house. I simply want you to keep leaving the door open every night instead of locking it. That way I can keep coming in and taking anything I want as you keep spending your money to replace your stuff, which I also steal.

Let me say it simply: You are conflating fear with vigilance.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Trump doesn't like Khan. He uses old and out of context quotes to attack hm - it's pitiful from someone who is supposed to be the leader of the US. When Khan was elected as Mayor he got the single biggest vote any single person has won in the UK - Londoners voted for him, so Trump and other non-Londoners should mind their own business.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Muslims all over the UK are condemning the attacks. Please stop pushing the Trump didn't do anything wrong agenda. People have died in horrific circumstances. People who went out to enjoy a summer weekend.

Trump's opportunistic ill informed ugly comments will endear him even less to British people and I imagine, people all over the world.

His first tweet was to hype his hopeless travel ban on Muslims. Before any words of solidarity or sorrow.

He is no friend of the UK & May or Corbyn (whoever succeeds in 3 days) would do well to cut ties with the man.

London will heal, it's a remarkably strong city. As anyone who lives or has lived there will know.

Thankfully, the leaders of the major parties in the UK are not stupid enough to hitch their wagon to this flaming clown car.

"Clown?" The real clowns were the people that murdered these innocent people and don't worry, the UK and the US will always be allies even if the president or the PM think ill of one another.

Trump's opportunistic ill informed ugly comments will endear him even less to British people and I imagine, people all over the world.

What did he say that was so bad?

His first tweet was to hype his hopeless travel ban on Muslims. Before any words of solidarity or sorrow.

Perhaps, but from the looks of it, I hope it will resume.

London will heal, it's a remarkably strong city. As anyone who lives or has lived there will know.

That's not the issue, of course, London will heal, but if the UK doesn't take stronger measures in combating radical extremism, it'll happen again and again and again. 3rd time this year? Way overboard.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

I dont want you to live in fear that I am going to rob your house. I simply want you to keep leaving the door open every night instead of locking it. That way I can keep coming in and taking anything I want as you keep spending your money to replace your stuff, which I also steal.

Wow, almost not worth commenting on. Your metaphor is basically, keeping a country complacent so you can keep killing them is the goal of terrorism. We shouldn't call them terrorists, we should call them complacency advocates.

Simply stated, terrorists want to force their world view onto others. Their only tool is fear and misinformation. In that regard, there is a lot of similarity to the right wing and Trump. The difference is usually the methods of fear and misinformation.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

comments by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who said Britons should not be alarmed to see more police in the streets after three men drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing others nearby.

If Londoners should not be alarmed when terrorists are killing and stabbing other Londoners, and when more police are in the streets, when should they become alarmed?

As a US president, Trump should not be tweeting comments like these, but Khan's stupid statement was likely to attract a stupid response.

It is said that as many as 20 British police are following each "person of interest", which is an absurd waste of resources. I am normally opposed to giving the state any increased powers to arrest or interrogate, but it is getting to the point where more has to be done.

Oh, and anyone see the paid muslim anti-ISIS protestors being bused from place to place by CNN and the BBC? Apparently because of the lack of muslim rage against the terrorist attack, CNN had to go out and round up some London muslims, give them signs, and then take them from place to place around London to protest. But CNN and the BBC implied that these were spontaneous protests by muslims angered by extremists. When you can't find the story you want to report, you can always fabricate it, I suppose. If you look at the photos of these different protests around the city, they are all the exact same group of protestors. Rather sickening.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

One of the London attackers is reported to be a 27 year old father of 2. His wife had just had a baby girl.

Let that sink in for a minute. Alarming is an understatement.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Reading some of the comments and also the article itself kind of made me rethink this whole thing and also think about my initial reaction to this in the first place.

I think Trump should be criticized for "Tweeting" about this period. Just stop there.

Perhaps it is old fashion but the use of Twitter for making these kinds of comments seems insincere, insensitive, and foolish.

It would have been better for him to make a public, verbal statement condemning the act and leave it at that without tying it to any other policies.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

His first tweet was to hype his hopeless travel ban on Muslims. Before any words of solidarity or sorrow.

Perhaps, but from the looks of it, I hope it will resume.

Why does Trump need a travel ban now? Trump said he needed 90 days, so he already had enough time to develop his extreme vetting. By the time the Supreme Court hears the case, it will be in October....

The travel ban wasn't about developing extreme vetting to keep the country safe.

Trump has done nothing to develop his extreme vetting.

Be honest, the extreme vetting was the travel ban.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Folks, trump DID NOT comprehend what the mayor wrote, it DIDNT take anything out of context, clearly he didn't understand the simple sentence.

That means he should step down as he is not of sound mind

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Simply stated, terrorists want to force their world view onto others. Their only tool is fear and misinformation.

....and killing people who will never accept their world view, forgot that part. Fear and misinformation is not why all these people are no longer with it, they were physically attacked to death. Terrorists hope that our lack of action will allow them to keep doing that to those who will never assimilate to their views. 1 of the 3 London attackers was reported to police TWICE yet was released both times. Why?

If you look at the photos of these different protests around the city, they are all the exact same group of protestors. Rather sickening.

yeah people would rather talk about how mean Trump is to speak the truth or criticize the medium he uses to say it. It was totally staged and the same group of people were used by multiple media outlets in multiple locations to make it look like most Muslims are protesting against what happened.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Simply stated, terrorists, want to force their worldview onto others. Their only tool is fear and misinformation. In that regard, there is a lot of similarity to the right wing and Trump. The difference is usually the methods of fear and misinformation.

I don't think Trump has anything to do with the reality of what has happened and what is happening, you either take a stance and fight it with strength or you can just submit, shrug your shoulders and wait for another attack to happen, you don't have to give into the fear, but not giving in to the fear is not a bumper or a deterrent for the terrorists.

Why does Trump need a travel ban now? Trump said he needed 90 days, so he already had enough time to develop his extreme vetting. By the time the Supreme Court hears the case, it will be in October....

So we can avoid or at least minimize as to what has been happening in Europe, we can't eradicate it, but we can hinder them a lot, supress and make it as uncomfortable and extremely difficult for them to initiate an attack.

Trump said he needed 90 days, so he already had enough time to develop his extreme vetting. By the time the Supreme Court hears the case, it will be in October....

We have enough time, but I think this time, the Supreme Court will rule in his favor.

The travel ban wasn't about developing extreme vetting to keep the country safe.

And your personal opinion of that is because.....

Trump has done nothing to develop his extreme vetting.

If the left would step aside, the ACLU and these left wing looney judges, it would go through.

Be honest, the extreme vetting was the travel ban.

Whatever, as long as it's implemented, call it whatever names are acceptable

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Stop criticizing Trump. You're wasting your breath. He will tweet and tweet and tweet because he is who he is.

My big question is: How do you stop these killings? If they live among you, and they could blow their top at any moment, how do you stop them?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The attacks which have happened in Westminster and in Manchester were carried out by British Nationals, born here. Immigration has nothing to do with it. What do you expect the Home Office to do... screen people for any genetic predisposition to carry out acts of terror which could be passed down to the unborn children?

As for the security issues - well, do you have police, MI5 and MI6 screen everyone who rents a transit van? Have checkpoints in major cities where all traffic is filtered and searched? Stop and search anyone with a beard? If these people want to carry out an attack they will, and even the tightest ring of steel will have a weak point. It's a horrible thought but that's the world we live in.

If Trump thinks that banning flights from certain Muslim countries will keep America safe... it won't. Home grown terrorists are just as likely in America as they are in the UK. Man's an idiot.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

but not giving in to the fear is not a bumper or a deterrent for the terrorists.

Let's see how simple this is to destroy with a little thing called logic. I think you hate me and irrationally fear me. When I see you/your government trying to exclude my people or worse using fear as the motivation, it reaffirms my beliefs. When I see you/your government not reacting with fear, it causes me to question my beliefs.

If the left would step aside, the ACLU and these left wing looney judges, it would go through.

Then we'd have a one-party state run by religious nutjobs. Sounds like Iran.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Trump tends say a lot of nonsense about a lot of things, and on most issues I would be on the opposite side..

I even come at this one from a different angle, but there is something frightening happening here..

Almost as soon as anything happens that may involve or does involve someone who SELF identifies as muslim the claims of bigotry and racism completely drown out any sensible conversation about belief, and how it informs actions.

Before anyone says anything about this person isn't a real -insert religion here- please look up the no true scotsman fallacy.

I don't care for religion full stop, I don't care for labels as I think all are as baseless as the next, but there is clearly a link here, and if there can be no conversation about it I think we are lost.

There are many dogmatic belief systems that can be harmful, and its not to target islam more than any other, simply that is the one causing the issue currently, and that people don't seem to be able to separate the set of ideas from the color of peoples skin.. on all sides.

What people believe and think is important and its clear that there are dangerous and unsettling ideas present being taken advantage upon by extremists on marginalized angry ill-informed young men.

Happy well adjusted people who value all peoples freedom and rights do not blow themselves up or try to inflict as much damage as they can on the people around them knowing it will almost certainly lead to their death, that takes, ill-informed (or not), dogmatic belief to justify the dehumanization of others. My country is better, my religion is better, your great great grandfather did something Im going to hold you responsible for.. and so on..

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Back to my house example. If your front door is wide open and unlocked (and Europe's is!) then yeah you are probably fearful of getting robbed. If your door is locked, you arent really as fearful and the robbers will probably just go to a house which has an open door.

Especially in the case where your leaders have already invited the people who are doing all the robbing to live in your house. So even if you want to lock the door, its too late. That's why the people are fearful, their leaders have put them at risk and individual citizens cant do anything about it.

Trump is simply trying to lock the door and disinvite anyone else inside until we decide who deserves our trust. But the libs keep insisting that isnt allowed. Our door has to remain unlocked too so we can get robbed along with everyone else, to share the burden of being robbed. Because its mean not to share that problem with the rest of the world, or feelings or Russia or something......

@sangetsu

No. Why, did you see that? Or did you read some disinformation drivel on Breitbart or Infowars or some other right wing performance art site?

'Bused from place to place'; 'multiple locations,' tweets professional troll Katie Hopkins. It was in one single location, as you can clearly see from the screenshots.

Did CNN also stage this? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/more-than-30000-ahmadiyya-muslims-from-across-the-world-meet-in-the-uk-to-reject-isis-and-islamic-a7191306.html

@Blacklabel

You still haven't explained why you think 'no-one is doing anything about jihadist terrorism because of PC'. Genuinely curious where you get that from; which sites?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@Black:

As pointed out earlier, these terrorists were British citizens. This means the perpetrators were born with the keys to the house.

We get it. You want to magically lock the doors to the world's third largest country because you are susceptible to the fear narrative. That does not address the issue of homegrown terrorists.

It also doesn't address all that inaction that you claim.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

We get it. You are afraid. And, for some demonstrably false reason you keep moaning about inaction.

Why would I be afraid? I feel sorry for the people who had to die because their leaders wont take any firm action to prevent it. Leaders who know their people are surrounded by evil that they invited in to their home out of kindness. Just keep telling them everything will be ok and that this wont ever happen again....until next time.

I feel sorry for Trump who is trying to protect the USA and its people and liberal judges wont let him until people die on US soil. They wont even accept the attacks in other countries as proof that action is required NOW. Its almost like they want the blood on their hands before they will take any action that might be seen as racist or against a certain religion.

Trump travel ban, all you people say there has been NO attack so the ban cant be security related. No one from those countries has had a successful attack in the US, you said. But when Trump said that many attacks from people of those countries had been avoided already and that more would happen, few of you would accept that. Nope, he just hates Muslims, the religion of peace. You dont give credit for attacks that didnt happen, because you said cant prove those. But now we are going to talk about 12 attacks that didnt happen as a good thing? ok then.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

I feel sorry for the people who had to die because their leaders wont take any firm action to prevent it

You've been corrected about this claim already.

Let me show you why this statement lacks credibility:

Trump said that many attacks from people of those countries had been avoided already and that more would happen, few of you would accept that. Nope, he just hates Muslims, the religion of peace. You dont give credit for attacks that didnt happen, because you said cant prove those

3 ( +6 / -3 )

They can't kill all the people who will never accept their point of view. It will not happen.

That is not stopping them from trying. Yes, people die from other things too. I dont mind to die in a car accident or some other thing that isnt preventable or that is accidental. I DO mind dying because of the weak immigration policies of the government that was supposed to protect me as a citizen. That is why government exists, otherwise let me buy any weapons I want, allow me to carry them anywhere and I will protect myself.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Thankfully, the leaders of the major parties in the UK are not stupid enough to hitch their wagon to this flaming clown car.

"Clown?" The real clowns were the people that murdered these innocent people and don't worry, the UK and the US will always be allies even if the president or the PM think ill of one another.

They were not clowns. They were butchering religious fanatics.

Yes, the US and UK will be allies for the foreseeable future but it's clear that May speaks and acts in very reserved ways towards Trump. Corbyn shows a pretty unambiguous disdain.

The reason is they will smell pretty bad to the electorate if they wade into the trash-filled swamp.

Come to think of it, are there any leaders of democratic countries warm to Trump? He himself seems to have a soft spot for the likes of Putin and Duterte, and Xi opened his eyes to the North Korea reality with paper and crayons. The Saudi theocrats seem to like him too.

Khan as a city mayor rather than a party leader is well placed to tell Trump to shove his ill-informed twitter trash where it belongs. I'd do it.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I feel sorry for Trump who is trying to protect the USA and its people and liberal judges wont let him until people die on US soil

That's because the action he wants to take is irrational, unreasonable, ineffective, and unconstitutional.

It's almost as if you believe that any action other than what you feel is correct is inaction.

The world is a complex, nuanced place. This means that solutions are very rarely, if ever, black and white.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

You've been corrected about this claim already.

Negative. If something were done, the same things by the same groups of people would not keep happening in the same places. Ok, maybe something was done, but it was obviously ineffective and half hearted in execution at best.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

That's because the action he wants to take is irrational, unreasonable, ineffective, and unconstitutional.

Im not sure how you would know that, as he has not been allowed to even take the action yet and the Supreme Court has yet to rule on its constitutionality. Don't you judge the effects of an action AFTER it has been taken? Im sure the UK leaders think they have taken rational, reasonable and effective measures to combat this problem, yet......its still going on.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

Ok, maybe somethingwas done, but it was obviously ineffective and half hearted in execution at best.

Not maybe, 100% something was has been done. In the U.K. alone it prevented 12 attacks. How is that ineffective or halfhearted? That's correct! You're one of those, "if a crime isn't solved in 24 hours, no occurred" types of posters. Keeping that simple logic in mind, I can now see how you think failure to stop everything means complete failure. It's an all or nothing mindset.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Im not sure how you would know that, as he has not been allowed to even take the action yet and the Supreme Court has yet to rule on its constitutionality.

I know because two federal circuits have not allowed Trump to implement his ban.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I DO mind dying because of the weak immigration policies of the government that was supposed to protect me as a citizen.

How can immigration policies protect the victims from UK citizens?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Im not sure how you would know that, as he has not been allowed to even take the action yet and the Supreme Court has yet to rule on its constitutionality.

I know the same way you know there has been a lack of action regarding terrorism prevention.

Wait, that's not correct because I have evidence. If the travel ban were unquestionably constitutional, it would not have been blocked.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

These people may be technically British citizens, but they certainly weren't brought up with anything resembling British values and culture. Not sure about the perps in this case, but in the case of Manchester the entire family were jihadi or jihadi lite. Both brothers of the perp arrested, father arrested in Libya, sister waxing poetically that her brother was "entering Paradise" as a result of his sick actions.

They tend to be born and raised in exclusively Muslim enclaves/slums of large cities in Europe. This only fosters a nasty combination of frustration and entitlement, particularly in young men.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Bass:

How can immigration policies protect the victims from UK citizens?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Swift; well it would stop the flow of "fresh blood" into the communities that foster terrorism. It would also slow down the demographic shift that is happening between Muslim and non-Muslim in many countries. It would also hopefully allow time for those immigrants already present to better assimilate into the larger culture around them, rather than retreating into ethnic enclaves.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

If the travel ban were unquestionably constitutional, it would not have been blocked.

Oh it cant be that every step of the way that the vote was along partisan political lines and that the constitutionality of the order has not even been looked at yet? Ok sure. Supreme Court will be deciding this and are the experts on the Constitution. If they block it, then I agree its not within the powers of the President to do this.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2017/06/02/so-what-if-trumps-travel-ban-might-be-constitutional-if-another-president-did-it/?utm_term=.a0d573f064b4

Yeah so what.....its Trump who wants it so just block it. Because he obviously is only doing it out of hatred or ill will. Cant be that people from these countries and groups are going on killing sprees all over Europe.

@Attila already stated everything that was on my mind.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

@Blacklabel

Ok, maybe something was done, but it was obviously ineffective

Because of the 'PC' fairies?

Or because of underfunding the security services at a time when they're trying to deal with a very complex threat?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

But look how Theresa May has already been slammed for talking about British values, already a bunch of excuses about how that wont work or why it is wrong. According to the liberals and media nothing can be done about any of this and just have to hope terrorists get tired of killing people I guess.

I dont know what to even think anymore. Trump said it best, we want people in the USA who love America and who WANT TO BE AMERICAN. If not, then dont come. We we will not simply be a landing place for refugees. I dont get the feeling that a lot of the Muslims in the UK want to be British (have British values?). They just want to live there and make their own separate communities because it is better standard of living then where they are from.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jun/04/theresa-may-british-values-muslims-terror-threat

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Because of the 'PC' fairies?

Or because of underfunding the security services at a time when they're trying to deal with a very complex threat?

PC fairies as you put it. One of the 3 London attackers was referred to the police twice for his extremist statements after Manchester and for his jihadist type behaviors that concerned his neighbors and even friends. So the security services had him twice and let him go both times, that's not a funding issue. This isnt the first time people were investigated, let go and then later committed attacks. No one wants to be wrong and be accused of being racist, so they err on the side of letting people go. So PC fairies it is.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Serious question here. How do they always arrest 5-12 other people the next day after these attacks are done? Do they just go and arrest everyone who ever associated with the known attackers? Or everyone who they suspected recently but let go? It just seems seriously convenient that they kind of use the attack as an excuse to arrest people they should have arrested before the attack? It seems to soon to gather all the new evidence in the 1 day after starting from zero. Or do I have it wrong?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

As a londoner i do find it strange how everyone expects tolerance of everything these day, Trump is right in my opinion I'm amazed to say.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

How can immigration policies protect the victims from UK citizens?

In nearly every case in Western Europe, the attackers are of immigrant backgrounds, and often members of immigrant "communities," (enclaves) where alien values prevail. In the 80s and 90s, the UK gave asylum or permission to stay to Muslims KNOWING their were terror suspects, like Abu Qatada and Omar Bharki. That was wrong, in my humble opinion. Sensible, responsible immigration polices would have obviously prevented all this from happening.

I'm not alone in thinking this. The leaders of Germany, France, Britain and other countries in recent years have acknowledged "mistakes" in their immigration policies when talking about crime or Jihadi terror. So, this isn't some fringe, whacko narrative. It's the truth. Sorry if you don't like it.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@Blacklabel

According to the liberals and media nothing can be done about any of this and just have to hope terrorists get tired of killing people I guess.

Absolute falsehood. Nobody has said nothing can be done.

let him go both times, that's not a funding issue. This isnt the first time people were investigated, let go and then later committed attacks.

As explained in my earlier post, this is not a 'PC' issue; it's a funding issue, as they don't have the resources to track every single person referred all the time. They've been left having to assess the threat level and prioritise what they judge to be the greater threat. Also a legal issue; if they move when they don't have any solid evidence, they may not be able to actually press any charges.

No one wants to be wrong and be accused of being racist, so they err on the side of letting people go. So PC fairies it is.

Where do you get this 'PC' fixation from? Breitbart? Infowars? Trump himself? Somewhere else? It's complete garbage.

Political Correctness was started in a think tank (Frankfurt School) in Germany in 1923 according to this guy.

The Frankfurt school recommended (amongst other things):

the creation of racism offences.

continual change to create confusion.

the teaching of sex and homosexuality to children.

the undermining of schools and teachers' authority.

huge immigration to destroy national identity.

the promotion of excessive drinking.

emptying the churches.

an unreliable legal system with bias against the victim of crime.

dependency on the state or state benefits.

control and dumbing down of media.

encouraging the breakdown of the family.

Are not all these things happening in all of our societies? Especially the racism and immigration ones? SO what part of PC is 'garbage'?

So one very important change that must happen overnight is the issuing of side arm to all police in the UK.

No. Britons do not want the police to be routinely armed and the police don't want to be routinely armed. Why do you think you know better than the British when it comes to how things are done in the UK? I'm sick and tired of reading and hearing patronising, scaremongering, ignorant hyperbole from those who do not live in the UK.

We don't like guns, don't want them and laugh at those who think they make the world a safer place.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

That's not the issue, of course, London will heal, but if the UK doesn't take stronger measures in combating radical extremism, it'll happen again and again and again. 3rd time this year? Way overboard.

How many mass shootings in the US do you see every year? It's a regular occurence. What are the politicians there doing to combat the phenomenom?

Like the terror attacks in Europe; it's difficult to know what exactly the answer is. There's talk of monitoring/shutting down places of worship and the unbelievable suggestion of internment. That's not going to work anywhere. Monitoring suspected radicals - sure but if that's purely focussed on radical Islamists, it's a bit one sided. Shutting down places of worship? That's going to alienate many, many more people and it's not something that's done in this day and age.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

This cuts to the quick regarding how some people reach a point at which they do not even pretend to justify their thinking:

How can immigration policies protect the victims from UK citizens?

@Attila already stated everything that was on my mind.

This is the cutting off of discourse by answering in a manner that is meant to convey that the conversation is over. If not even discourse is allowed, the terrorists have "won" by exploiting your fear.

And, that is an additional reason we should all be vigilante and not fearful.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

SO what part of PC is 'garbage'?

The part where you claim 'PC' is responsible for terrorist deaths because it stops the police from acting.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Of course people should be alarmed.

Khan also said London is one of - if not THE - safest cities in the world.  what pl;anet is he living on?  Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and countless others across Asia are far safer.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The blood of this latest attack, like the others, is on the hands on paralyzed British politicians and their supporters who are more interested in political correctness than the lives of their own men, women and children.

Of course people should be alarmed.

Khan also said London is one of - if not THE - safest cities in the world. what pl;anet is he living on? Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and countless others across Asia are far safer.

Unlike Tokyo, London doesn't get that many earthquakes, though. Unlike Singapore, it's media isn't controlled by the government (yet). And it doesn't have big brother China looking over its shoulder. Like Hong Kong.

Yeah, London's a bit edgy sometimes and there's always been extremists and assasinations throughout the centuries but it's weathered them all. No amount of terrorism or hysterical reaction (from outside) is going to crush it.

"...his is not a 'PC' issue; it's a funding issue,"

Oh, gimme a break. The cops shot and killed all three terrorists within 8 minutes of the first report of violence. That's evidence they are extremely, extremely well-equipped, ie, "funded." Nowadays, there are large numbers of units paramilitary officers deployed throughout British cities. Welcome to multicultural Britain. ("Feel the vibrancy!")

If there's an "issue," it's one a one of political correctness, which has allowed the toxic religious enclaves to thrive. The PM is right: "Enough is enough."

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

@clamenza

more interested in political correctness than the lives of their own men, women and children.

Absolute garbage. Find me one single example of a British politician stating that being politically correct is more important than lives.

@JeffLee

No mate, you give me a break. Yes, thankfully our armed response teams are well trained & equipped, and in a constant state of readiness; obviously this requires funding. The problem is lack of funding in other areas - the key one being not having sufficient manpower available to keep 24/7 tabs on all persons of concern.

The armed response guys did excellent work this week; sadly, they wouldn't have had to if these guys hadn't slipped through the cracks. Your claim that they were somehow intentionally allowed to slip through the cracks 'because PC' is nothing more than useless rhetoric which gets us nowhere.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Let's see how simple this is to destroy with a little thing called logic. I think you hate me and irrationally fear me.

I don't, I don't know you.

When I see you/your government trying to exclude my people or worse using fear as the motivation, it reaffirms my beliefs.

Not everyone thinks like you do, so I don't have an insight, nor do I care what others think.

When I see you/your government not reacting with fear, it causes me to question my beliefs.

I fully understand.

That's because the action he wants to take is irrational, unreasonable, ineffective, and unconstitutional.

Actually, it is constitutional, it makes a heck of a lot of sense and for all the right reasons and once it passes through the Supreme Court, it can and would minimize a lot of potential terror attacks.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

it can and would minimize a lot of potential terror attacks.

How? Even if the Muslim ban passes it's temporary. It won't last forever. Also, it doesn't include Saudi Arabia (September 11 attacks). The Muslim ban would be a joke even if passed by Supreme court. Also, Donald Trump is the worst deal maker as he is going to give back the Russian compounds to Russia with nothing in return. Whose side is Trump on? Do Trump voters realized it was Obama who seized those compounds and Trump is just going to give them back for free. He just wants to do that because he hates Obama.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Political correctness

There is certainly a reticence to talk honestly about Islam and a double standard. I've read posters here who rightly shout down bigotry from other religious groups, but clam up on similar or worse from Muslims. Criticise narrow-minded thinking from Christians or religious Jews and you display your anti-bigotry credentials, do the same with Muslims and you run the risk of being called a bigot yourself, often by the same people who were previously slagging off the Christians or religious Jews with you.

I've posted this before but I'd like to add that there are brave Muslims who do stand up and say what they see. Former extremist Majid Nawaz is an example, and people like him can find themselves called bigots or sell-outs, and in some cases, can find themselves on terrorist hit lists.

It's people like this who are of real help. Deluges of trash of the world's most famous internet troll are not of help.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Mayor Khan is STILL not alarmed. Safest global city in the WORLD he says. So I guess in the name of political correctness, people have to keep dying.

It's somewhat amusing to see the bemused reactions of Republicans unable to comprehend the rest of the world not panicking like they did after 9-11.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

The blood of this latest attack, like the others, is on the hands on paralyzed British politicians and their supporters who are more interested in political correctness than the lives of their own men, women and children

Ridiculous. Over-the-top. Overly dramatic. You do realize security has to be correct 100% of the time whereas terrorists have to be correct 100% of the time, don't you?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

But if political correctness is the cause of the recent bombings in the UK, then it means in America we should be doing everything we can to battle political correctness so the terrorists don't target us.

Or something like that.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

In the middle of a crisis is no time to go around criticizing government officials. There is always plenty of time for second guessing later.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Trump's comments are yet again above and beyond abhorrent. This isn't even about being PC or not, the man is a sad joke to humanity, as the CNN newscaster said, and the other thing he said about him as well.

bass4funk: "nor do I care what others think."

Unless they're Muslims... or Obama, or anyone else who disagrees with you or Trump. Then you care a LOT.

Trump criticized for tweet on London mayor after bridge attacks

Out of his depth yet again, embarrassing the US yet again. Could someone please take control of this twit's twitter account!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

bass: you can just submit, shrug your shoulders and wait for another attack to happen

Kind of like how gun supporters respond to school shootings.

Blacklabel: According to the liberals and media nothing can be done about any of this and just have to hope terrorists get tired of killing people I guess.

So you're all in for the ban, then? Should it be expanded to all Muslims?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

A little update.............Trump continues to attack the Mayor of London on Twitter while a mass-shooting just happened in Orlando. Hmm, no knives or trucks were used there.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

more interested in political correctness than the lives of their own men, women and children.

Totally false assumption, btw, when you totally remove correctness in politic, you end up with extremist or a twitter troll for president.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It's somewhat amusing to see the bemused reactions of Republicans unable to comprehend the rest of the world not panicking like they did after 9-11.

Of course not, they didn't have 4 massive jets filled with fuel knocking down towers and buildings, but let that happen to Buckingham Palace and I'm sure people would be a panicking, just a tad.

Ummm . . . Okay. I'm 100% certain you completely missed the point.

Naw.

Yes, because you know more about constitutional law than multiple federal judges. Oh, that was a good one. I haven't cried from laughing since I read you last post.

I never said that, but you have to be a complete knob to think that because you are a court appointed Judge, your rulings are always right and just. Don't even go there, I could give you case after where judges made the wrong decisions, people have died because of them, prosecutors convicted, planted evidence on so many innocent people were falsely incarcerated because of some corrupt judge or judicial system, so you can religious believe these idiot liberal judges, I don't. Anyway, I'll probably be laughing once the ban gets reinstated by Judges that will more than likely keep their personal emotions out of the ruling and vote based on the constitutionality of the law.

Kind of like how gun supporters respond to school shootings.

Which is about the same response when the Europeans get attacked by a terrorist, tragic and horrific as it is, life will go on.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Have you read the rulings? I don't remember seeing any emotional points.

You have to be a complete knob to think that I was implying this.

Anyway, I'll probably be laughing once the ban gets reinstated by Judges

I'll be laughing too. In disbelief because only the SCOTUS can reinstate the ban and it is composed of justices, not judges.

Also, we are all still waiting for the answer to how a travel ban will prevent home grown terrorism. Or, are you just not going to answer?

Facts: Information based in reality that conservatives ignore.

"The latest deadly London attacks, like one in the Philippines last week, prompted visceral reactions from Trump instead of statements shaped by the findings of the U.S. intelligence and diplomatic apparatus. He got ahead of the facts emerging in Britain's chaos Saturday and got it wrong in the Philippines case, calling the episode there a "terrorist attack" when it was not."

https://www.yahoo.com/news/ap-fact-check-attack-draws-visceral-trump-tweets-080045642--politics.html?exp=vv

5 ( +5 / -0 )

It's in a way, people that call him "evil" are quite like Trump in many ways, I wonder what adjective you would use to describe Hitler?

I was born and raised in a generation that had a better grasp of the English language, my bad. We learned what "words" meant.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Thinking of criticism, from The Independent:

“While we have made significant progress in recent years there is, to be frank, far too much tolerance of extremism in our country,” she (PM Theresa May) said.

“So we need to become far more robust in identifying it and stamping it out across the public sector and across society.”

Across the public sector. Right. And then...

The Conservative government has been criticised for increased arms sales to Riyadh.

So she's not wrong about tolerance of extremism, she's seen it first-hand.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

But also in the US, we do a better job of making sure they assimilate into the culture.

Feel free to share with the rest of us your evidence. Please exclude anecdotal evidence.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Which is about the same response when the Europeans get attacked by a terrorist, tragic and horrific as it is, life will go on.

September 11 attacks were done with box cutters. And why live in a gun free country (japan) with such gun control fears? What if you are attacked on the street in Japan and you can't have a gun? Trump is also making the US less secure by giving back the Russian spy compounds with nothing in return. Obama confiscated them -Trump is giving them back for free - and it shows Obama is more patriotic than Trump. What does Russia have on Trump anyway?

your rulings are always right

The problem is even if the Muslim ban is approved it's only temporary. Trump's proposed ban is a joke. And why isn't Saudi Arabia part of the Muslim ban for obvious reasons of 9/11?

Anyway, I'll probably be laughing once the ban gets reinstated by Judges

Even if this happens it's not permanent. It will stop after a short time. What is the point? Trump's Muslim ban is a joke. And when is the wall going to be built (that Mexico will pay for)?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Feel free to share with the rest of us your evidence. Please exclude anecdotal evidence.

As I just mentioned, cities like Glendale, Detroit, Dallas just to name a few have all done exceptionally well. How many attacks have we had in the US recently? In the U.K. It's been 3 times in 9 weeks? That's a lot. Either way, the best thing and the right thing what will happen is the Supreme Court will most likely rule in his favor and if it can weed out the radicals, it's a good thing.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Either way, the best thing and the right thing what will happen is the Supreme Court will most likely rule in his favor and if it can weed out the radicals

But it's only for a very short time (even if it does pass). Then borders are open again. Trump rattling on with his Twitter account has hurt his case anyway.

How many attacks have we had in the US recently?

There was a mass shooting with 5 killed in Florida the last 24 hours. Then another killed 50 people in an Orlando nightclub (and they had armed guards). Why don't shootings like this happen in Japan?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

As I just mentioned, cities like Glendale, Detroit, Dallas just to name a few have all done exceptionally well

This is not evidence of your claim, it is a list of cities that, according to you, are doing a good job of making sure Muslims assimilate.

Have any of you conservatives ever considered geography when pondering the number of terrorist attacks in Europe by non-citizens? The US is protected by two huge oceans.

what will happen is the Supreme Court will most likely rule in his favor

Now you're a constitutional scholar? There are people that have spent their entire careers watching the SCOTUS, but demur when asked to predict how the court will rule.

Figured out this yet?

Anyway, I'll probably be laughing once the ban gets reinstated by Judges

I'll be laughing too. In disbelief because only the SCOTUS can reinstate the ban and it is composed of justices, not judges.

The answer to why I would be laughing is right there.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The majority of British people outside London agree 100% with Trump on this.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

This is not evidence of your claim, it is a list of cities that, according to you, are doing a good job of making sure Muslims assimilate.

Not according to me, I'm not a pollster, but what I do know and coming from a city that has the largest Iranian community, I never heard of any problems-none. Again, what has happened in the U.K. Would never happen like that in the US, maybe soft targets, but in that manner and fashion, hey, good luck. Remember when they had that stupid so called art exhibit who can draw the prophet the best and two radicals from Arizona was going to shoot up the place in Texas where the event was held, they were shot dead before they could even get close to the facility. That's what would happen.

Have any of you conservatives ever considered geography when pondering the number of terrorist attacks in Europe by non-citizens? The US is protected by two huge oceans.

Excuses again? Here we go......

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

The majority of British people outside London agree 100% with Trump on this.

Utter nonsense. Laughable.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The majority of British people outside London agree 100% with Trump on this

No, we don't. The majority of British people inside & outside London think Trump is an utter disgrace for his comments this week.

One thing has become very clear these last few days from Trump's comments, and those of his supporters. The alt right screeches that 'Muslims don't integrate, Islam isn't compatible with democracy, Muslims don't condemn terrorism, PC stops people calling the problem what it is'; but when faced with a Muslim who is so well integrated he was voted mayor of London, who demonstrates the compatibility of democracy with Muslims, who absolutely condemns terrorism, and who absolutely calls radical Islam extremism exactly that, instead of saying 'good man', the alt right go all out attack with baseless accusations, attacking him with demonstrable lies about what he said.

What this makes clear is that the alt right don't want Muslims to integrate, they don't want Muslims to embrace democracy, they don't want Muslims to condemn terrorism. They can't stand people like Khan who are living proof of their mendacity. They want to hate all of them, and will twist things however they must to justify it.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The majority of British people outside London agree 100% with Trump on this.

That's rubbish... most people in the UK are more likely to think the man's a dangerous clown.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

That's rubbish... most people in the UK are more likely to think the man's a dangerous clown.

Thats ok, they've been thinking Americans have been clowns for 300 years now, so it's all good. I don't know a single American that could care less what any other country thinks.

By the way, how would you know how every Brit thinks? Brexit came as a surprise to a lot of Brits, be careful now, people in the US said, a person like Trump could never get elected as well.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

They can't stand people like Khan who are living proof of their mendacity. They want to hate all of them, and will twist things however they must to justify it.

Absolutely. Trump's tweets are part of his emnity towards Muslims in general and the fact that an intelligent, articulate one is Mayor of London must surely rankle.

It rankles with commentators as well who just don't get the British. They don't understand the lack of hysteria (unless its coming from Katie Hopkins etc) about the attacks. They don't get the overwhelming positivity and measured reaction. The humour in the face of darkness, the unity, the spirit. A refusal to let the terrorists win. So the commentators must do the terrorists work for them, a coda, if you will. A last ditch attempt to sow the seeds of division. Neither they nor the terrorist can hope to achieve their goal. And that rankles the most.

So tweet away, President Trump. You're used to bankruptcy. A bit of moral bankruptcy on your part should be a breeze.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Political Correctness was started in a think tank (Frankfurt School) in Germany in 1923 according to this guy.

You are joking right? Safest city in the world? Come on, even my 10 year old daughter can tell a lie when she hears it, I'm surprised that his nose didn't grow 10ft. On this one, Trump was right on every Tweet about what he said about the major and good on Trump for having the brass to say it. Call it for what it really is.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Apologists with very murky allegiances do not have any authority to be spokesmen for the British. You don't speak for the vast majority. That is fact.

a person like Trump could never get elected as well.

We know he can't get anything done like the wall or the Muslim ban. He is elected, but what has he accomplished?

He's a conservative? So what? Roberts is too but he upheld ObamaCare.

Also.....

No Muslim ban (permanent)

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Apologists with very murky allegiances do not have any authority to be spokesmen for the British. You don't speak for the vast majority. That is fact.

Change the record, son. And less of the insinutations. If you knew the slightest thing about blighty; you'd understand that Trump's tweets were a disgusting insult to British people and at the very least; mighty unbecoming of a President.

Sadiq Khan's ratings are very high and he is respected by many Londoners. He said absolutely the right thing in the wake of the attacks and he sought to put Londoners' fears at ease with the increased presence of armed police on London's streets. Such a shame Trump put his America First agenda ahead of the terror that visited the capital on Saturday. Of course, it's not surprising but it is shameful.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

He's a conservative? So what? Roberts is too but he upheld ObamaCare.

Roberts didn't have a complete and thorough conservative record like Gosurch. I never cared for Roberts, never trusted him. So I can rest easier with Gosurch.

Sadiq Khan's ratings are very high and he is respected by many Londoners.

"Many" and there are a lot of people that don't. So I fail to see your point.

He said absolutely the right thing in the wake of the attacks and he sought to put Londoners' fears at ease with the increased presence of armed police on London's streets.

That's like saying to a terminally I'll patient, you are going to pull through when you know the end is near.

Such a shame Trump put his America First agenda ahead of the terror that visited the capital on Saturday. Of course, it's not surprising but it is shameful.

Naw, he's trying to put America first as a result of what happened, 3 times in 9 weeks, that's just insane and good on him for that.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Toasted heretic - Oh, Im sure you just love Khan. But what say you about the 40 Blighties that have been slaughtered by Radical Islamic Terrorism and the 100's maimed in the past few months alone?

You still haven't mentioned it at all....

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

but has been unconstitutionally blocked by liberal judges (so far)

The judge that blocked the Muslim ban was appointed by Bush. And even if the ban is allowed it's only temporary which is not a real ban.

pulled out of the Paris climate agreement

Getting out of the Paris agreement is easy and not political as the president can simply decide to do it (or not...or get back in)...so what?

He's waffling on the wall

No, he 100% failed on the wall. And the non-snowflakes have never heard of ladders and shovels. Also, Mexico won't pay.

on his correct pledge to impose a travel ban.

Again, even if it passes it's for only a short time and not permanent. The Muslim ban is a joke even if it passes.

Also, don't forget that Trump simply giving back the Russian spy compounds with nothing in return proves he's the worst dealmaker in history. Trump is Putin's little poodle. Obama never did that. I can't believe that Trump followers didn't vote for someone decent on the Republican side. Trump is the best you had?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Again, even if it passes it's for only a short time and not permanent. The Muslim ban is a joke even if it passes.

I see. So you'd suggest a more stringent ban that would truly ban all muslims indefinitely?

Golly, thats even more than President Trump or I were asking....

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Toasted heretic - Oh, Im sure you just love Khan. But what say you about the 40 Blighties that have been slaughtered by Radical Islamic Terrorism and the 100's maimed in the past few months alone?

You still haven't mentioned it at all....

Is that another one of your "facts"? I'd rather not go off topic, if it's all the same with you. If you're going to cherry pick and decide what's been said and what you believe hasn't been said, that's fine.

The topic is about Trump's extraodinarily insensitive tweets and using the murders to further his agenda. Sadiq Khan is looking out for Londoners. Something the tories (with their cuts to the intelligence services and Met) aren't doing. Why isn't your President of Entropy saving his bile for May's party, hmm? If he wants to stick his oar in to British political affairs, so much?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So you'd suggest a more stringent ban that would truly ban all muslims indefinitely?

What I'd suggest? Why me? This is Trump's stupid thing, not mine. Why are you asking me. Also, Trump followers don't realize this Muslim ban (if it passes with a big if) will last for a very short time. It's so funny that Trump followers think a Muslim ban that lasts no more than six months is going to keep the Muslims out permanently.

What's the point of a Muslim ban if it only lasts like 120 days? Because Islamic terrorists can wait 120 years they are so patient. It shows how uninformed Trump is and how naive his followers are. Trump's Muslim ban? And it doesn't even include Saudi Arabia? What a joke!!!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"Trump's Muslim ban? And it doesn't even include Saudi Arabia? What a joke!!!"

For the umpteenth time, it's not a Muslim ban, it's a travel restriction on people from high risk countries ( no surprise they are all Muslim-majority though ).   When is this going to register?  Never?

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

For the umpteenth time, it's not a Muslim ban

YES IT IS!!!

Trump explicitly called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”

(News Source)

That is what Trump promised but he broke that promise.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Trump is unfit for the office of Presidency.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

And neither are you.

Lol! I never said I was. Never claimed like a lot of libs think they know.

For an intelligent and real analysis of the travel ban and why it won't prevent similar attacks that happened in the UK on US soil, have a look at this:

Ok, I don't believe that, I know most libs would never agree to it, but strong vetting works in Israel, works for the Mexicans, they have strict vetting, I've seen it, so it would definitely work, NOT stop, but it would be a great tool, but it's ok, I could care less what anyone thinks, I just think the Supreme Court should probably rule in Trump's favor since they usually rule on how the law is interpreted and not how they emotionally feel about, so on that alone, I feel confident.

A look at recent terrorist attacks in the US show that America's terrorists are homegrown. No travel bans or other fear-based legislation targeting other countries is going to prevent terrorism in the US from happening.

The travel ban would be for the ones living outside the US, we all know this, for the domestic terrorists, you weed them out, infiltrate the mosques, you use the strongest surveillance tools you have and the laws of the US to spy, apprehended and prosecute these people to the fullest extent, if they travel to any country that deals in state sponsor terrorism and they are linked to the radicals, block their passports, whatever it takes.

If it's not a permanent ban then it is not a ban

Dude, you can call it whatever you wish, call it tutti-frutti, I don't care. As long as the SCOTUS allows it to go forward, you can call it whatever euphemism you like.

Even your daughter can tell a lie, but you apparently cannot. Trump was not right about what he said about the mayor; he lied. Attacking him for things he demonstrably did not say at a time when he should have been offering support to America's closest ally; disgusting behaviour from a US president

Ok, that's what you think, I think Trump was right and I'm glad, we have a president that doesn't sugarcoat things. I'm so sick and tired of all these PC Washington establishment politicians.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Dude, you can call it whatever you wish

Even if it passes what will you call Trump's Muslim ban once it runs its course (in 120 days)? Trump's Muslim ban is just as much as a failure as his wall (which Mexico won't pay for anyway)

The travel ban would be for the ones living outside the US

Again, it needs to be for 120 years instead of 120 days. The Islamic terrorists are laughing at Trump right now. They can wait 120 days, no problem.

I feel confident.

120 days???? That's all for Trump's Muslim ban? It's a joke and the Islamic terrorists think so as well.

Trump and his tweets, eh?

It's almost like he wants to undermine himself. He's certainly lost any credibility he had with the tweets directed at the Mayor of London.

@bass

even my 10 year old daughter can tell a lie when she hears it, I'm surprised that his nose didn't grow 10ft. On this one, Trump was right on every Tweet about what he said about the major

Even your daughter can, but you apparently cannot. Trump was not right about what he said about the mayor; he engaged in utter mendacity, attacking him for things he demonstrably did not say at a time when he should have been offering support to America's closest ally. Disgusting behaviour from a US president.

bass4funk Today  06:31 am JST

Ok, that's what you think, I think Trump was right and I'm glad, we have a president that doesn't sugarcoat things.

Well, I can see how you would feel a kinship with someone who's barely coherent most of the time.

I'm so sick and tired of all these PC Washington establishment politicians.

Sucks to be you, eh. Do you honestly suppose anyone here cares?

Even your daughter can, but you apparently cannot.

You sure?

Trump was not right about what he said about the mayor;

I think he was and If were Trump, I would have said a lot more.

he engaged in utter mendacity, attacking him for things he demonstrably did not say at a time when he should have been offering support to America's closest ally. Disgusting behaviour from a US president.

So what's your point?

Well, I can see how you would feel a kinship with someone who's barely coherent most of the time.

Ok, that's your opinion, I feel the same about liberals running amok in our society.

Sucks to be you, eh. Do you honestly suppose anyone here cares?

Equally, why would I care what anyone thinks, oh, and on that note, that's how many Trump supporters feel as well. Welcome to my world. ROFL

It's almost like he wants to undermine himself. He's certainly lost any credibility he had with the tweets directed at the Mayor of London.

That depends on who you are asking.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

My point is clear. Trump attacked Khan with mendacious accusations at a time when he should have been supporting an ally.

You are either unable to see through the falsehoods, or enjoying partaking in them.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

My point is clear. Trump attacked Khan with mendacious accusations at a time when he should have been supporting an ally.

Exactly, if my neighbor suffers a home invasion and members of his family are tragically murdered, I'll probably wait a few hours to recommend a better home security system or question how seriously he takes the threat of crime. And I sure won't go public, using his anguish as a cudgel to get my own wishlist filled.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

jcapan - if your same neighbour lived in a violent neighbourhood where his family were repeatedly assaulted in that house, and left his door open again and again, you would rightfully call him an idiot.

I love what Katie Hopkins had to say after Khan's cold, emotionless interview on Good Morning Britain where all he could do was robotically repeat "London is a safe city";

"Then I see Sadiq sitting there on the GMB sofa. Cold. Emotionless, in the face of my empathetic colleagues. And I want to make him feel some of our pain. Like I would take my dog, wipe it's face in it's own mess, the mess IT had made".

if your same neighbour lived in a violent neighbourhood where his family were repeatedly assaulted in that house, and left his door open again and again, you would rightfully call him an idiot.

This, exactly this. Where the head of the household refuses to protect his own family by any means necessary. Where he just lies and tells them how safe they are (safest in the world, he says!). Tells you as a concerned neighbor to mind your own business about how he secures his house.

It is not my family or my house, yes. But I still care for them as vulnerable people who keep suffering tragedies. I can express my concerns about how the head of the household is seemingly negligent in his protection duties and offer advice about potential methods to prevent this again.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Trump attacked Khan with mendacious accusations at a time when he should have been supporting an ally. You are either unable to see through the falsehoods, or enjoying partaking in them.

Anyone who is actually interested in what the Mayor said will have seen it on telly or online. The fact that the lies keep circulating proves that Trump supporters and haters of the UK simply ignore the truth in favor of sowing seeds of hatred and division. They are little better than the preachers of hate who inspire crazed acts of madness and murder.

There is an ugly, gloating sentiment in the posts of those seeking to denigrate the UK and Khan. These are no friends of the British. Trump's insane tweets only enable them.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

And I'd glaze over if I had Piers Morgan in my face; the nasty, lying, phone hacking git.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

clamenza, Katie Hopkins or any other Brit can criticize their leaders as they wish. I certainly had no problem when Americans leveled similar charges against Bush/Cheney in the days following 9/11. My point is that foreign parties, and certainly our president, should have waited until the blood was washed off the streets before holding forth in the way he did, and certainly on Twitter, of all places.

Stop for a moment and imagine what your reaction would have been if Tony Blair had done such a thing, by lunchtime no less, on 9/11? Taking the opportunity to castigate Rudy Giulani for his failure to prevent an ongoing tragedy.

This isn't about our opinions of the mayor of London or Muslims or how the UK has handled immigration or combatted terrorism. This is about the POTUS reacting to a tragic situation w/out a shred of human decency.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Hopkins is a nasty, vile piece of work. She's called for internment camps, a final solution and once described migrants as "cockroaches". She's praised tweets from nazis. Not surprising, given that she speaks the same language.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

w/out a shred of human decency.

Sadly, it is our human decency that wont let us take the necessary actions out of fear of being wrong about people. That guy on TV with the ISIS flag, its just his right to free speech. He cant actually hate ME, because I am a decent, loving, fair person who wishes him no harm and support his right to free speech and free religion. But that decency is what will get us all killed in the end. Our enemies, these terrorists, have none. That

So I guess as we die in their attacks, we can at least feel good about ourselves that we treated everyone fairly and decently. Unfortunately, that decency and fairness didnt save our lives. The world needs a bad guy to survive, someone to focus our hate on while he protects us at the same time. Trump is that guy for us all.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Anyone who is actually interested in what the Mayor said will have seen it on telly or online. The fact that the lies keep circulating proves that Trump supporters and haters of the UK simply ignore the truth in favor of sowing seeds of hatred and division

Oh, stop! I love the UK actually and most Americans don't have a problem with the Brits, sure, they can be annoying at times, but overall, they are our friends and allies and we would bend over backward to help them, we always have and always will. Having said that, because we have such a close relationship, we should be able to talk openly and honestly and Trump was right, the Brits can take the most positive attitude if they wish, but that's not going to stop the radicals within that country to undertake more bombings, more chaos and kill anyone that is an infidel and it will only get worse and if the Brits want to hide their heads in the sand and hoping to be kind and taking "I'm above them" type attitude, go right ahead. It's not my country, I feel bad, but I care about what happens in the US and I am glad we have a president that is NOT afraid to call out radical Islam for what it is.

They are little better than the preachers of hate who inspire crazed acts of madness and murder.

Yeah, who and how many across the globe?

There is an ugly, gloating sentiment in the posts of those seeking to denigrate the UK and Khan.

That's how you want to see it. Positive criticism does not mean, you are degrading someone.

These are no friends of the British. Trump's insane tweets only enable them.

A true friend should always be direct and honest, other than that, that person is NOT a real friend.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Stop for a moment and imagine what your reaction would have been if Tony Blair had done such a thing, by lunchtime no less, on 9/11? Taking the opportunity to castigate Rudy Giulani for his failure to prevent an ongoing tragedy.

Another completely wrong analogy. The 9/11 attacks were a monumental breach of lax security by outside terrorists. It has largely been corrected.

The weekly bloodbath in the streets of England are a direct consequence of an open door immigration policy and a 30 year appeasement of Radical Islam right in their towns and cities. The politicians looked the other way when 400 ( Four hundred!!) radicals who left the country to fight for ISIS were allowed back in the country as if they were on holiday.

Trump is right in his criticism and a great many Britains feel exactly the same way.

And neither do you. I don't speak for the majority, but a lot of them feel that he's right and PC free.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Clamenza,

First of all it's perfectly possible to discuss problems with the UK's immigration policy without launching personal attacks against Khan - who is not and never has been responsible for UK immigration policy. PM May, however, had that job for years - indeed, the same job in which she reduced our police numbers by 20% - and yet mysteriously you focus your venom on Khan and not her. Care to attempt an explanation? Or do you just parrot whatever BannonTrumpBart is spewing out in the week in hand?

Secondly,

consequence of an open door immigration policy

The UK does not have an open door immigration policy. What are you talking about?

and a 30 year appeasement of Radical Islam

What are you on about? You think we had radical Islam issues in 1987? News to me. The issue then was Irish terrorists.

@bass

A true friend should always be direct and honest

Aye, and Trump is not being honest. His mendacious attacks on Khan aren't honesty, they're opportunistic self-serving bile. It's perfectly possible to discuss mistakes you think the UK has made on security, immigration policy, etc, without lying and smearing the mayor of London.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Aye, and Trump is not being honest.

Yeah, he is. 3 attacks in 9 weeks and saying that London is the safest city? Dear Lord...

His mendacious attacks on Khan aren't honesty, they're opportunistic self-serving bile.

No, they were spot on IMHO.

It's perfectly possible to discuss mistakes you think the UK has made on security, immigration policy, etc, without lying and smearing the mayor of London.

Gosh, I wish you guys would heed your own words and do the same for Trump, if not, then don't expect the same courtesy. It's amazing, you guys dump on Trump, but when he states an obvious fact that what the mayor said was garbage, Oh, you can't do that, you stepped over the line, give me a break.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

"you guys, you guys, you guys?"

If you're talking to me, please address what I said, not what other posters said.

Once again, Khan said people shouldn't be alarmed at the sight of extra armed police. He didn't say 'there's nothing at all to worry about' or words to that effect, as Trump mendaciously claimed.

You obviously have little clue about the UK, but we don't usually see armed police on the streets at all; when people do suddenly see them, they may be alarmed that an incident is happening right there & then. It's therefore simply a sensible statement for the mayor to say to Londoners in advance that there will be additional armed police deployed and not to be alarmed by their presence.

The reason I'm 'dumping on Trump' is because he is constantly BSing. This is just one more example.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Once again, Khan said people shouldn't be alarmed at the sight of extra armed police. He didn't say 'there's nothing at all to worry about' or words to that effect, as Trump mendaciously claimed.

Yet doesn't have the integrity to say the words Islamic extremism.

@clamenza

Yet doesn't have the integrity to say the words Islamic extremism.

Doesn't he? Odd claim. I've heard him use them, along with 'radical Islam' etc. Is this another case of the PC fairies? Did you read it on Breitbart?

@bass

you think 3 terror attacks within 9 weeks is nothing to worry about?

I made no such statement, and to suggest I did is thoroughly dishonest; straight out of the Trump playbook.

Like I said, that would never happen in Texas

It happened in Florida, with guns, and an awful lot more than 8 people were killed. The Mayor of London expressed solidarity, the British PM did not attack the mayor of Orlando on Twitter, and JT wasn't flooded with posters gloating about it.

you guys know a lot about Trump or the US?

Which guys? To what straw man group are you assigning me?

No guns, oh, right up their ally.

Indeed. I would much rather be faced with a jihadi wielding a knife than one firing an automatic rifle. I'm quite happy with the UK's gun laws; you're evidently quite happy with US gun law. Fair enough.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I made no such statement, and to suggest I did is thoroughly dishonest; straight out of the Trump playbook.

It was a legitimate question, not a condemnation, I'm not the far left, you don't have to worry about honesty with me.

It happened in Florida,

Florida is NOT Texas, an entirely different culture.

The Mayor of London expressed solidarity, the British PM did not attack the mayor of Orlando on Twitter, and JT wasn't flooded with posters gloating about it.

No one is gloating, in fact, quite the opposite. I personally said, that I think Trump was right for what he said, it's no use getting angry about this, it's done, it's past, both men said what they wanted to say about one another. Now that we got this out of the way, we can move forward and I do sincerely hope London gets more aggressive with these terrorists. Now having said that, you guys don't need to gloat about Trump. Remember "fair is fair."

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

You obviously have little clue about the UK, but we don't usually see armed police on the streets at all; when people do suddenly see them, they may be alarmed that an incident is happening right there & then. It's therefore simply a sensible statement for the mayor to say to Londoners in advance that there will be additional armed police deployed and not to be alarmed by their presence.

This. A thousand times this. Politicians have learned their lesson since Blair went into overreaction and sent the tanks into Heathrow.

There is nothing wrong or unusual about the Mayor asking Londoners not to be alarmed. But the alt-right just don't get it. They are used to hysteria, fomenting division and promoting lies and hatreds.

Trump's tweets enabled far right hatred. They will also hasten his popularity decline in the UK; if it's possible to get any lower.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It was a legitimate question

Attributing a false statement to someone and then saying it leaves you speechless is not 'a legitimate question', it's a straw man attack. Precisely the illogical tactic employed by DJT this week (and most weeks)

I'm not the far left, you don't have to worry about honesty with me

Its irrelevant who or what you are. I'll judge the honesty of your statements and arguments each on their own merit, and you made a dishonest claim about something I never said.

you guys don't need to gloat about Trump

Which guys? To what group are you assigning me?

I'm not goating about Trump. I'm criticising his appalling conduct this week in attacking an the mayor of London instead of supporting an ally, all to score political points with his base.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Well don't worry everyone. Sadiq Khan is on the case and making arrests - of online "hate crimes".

While Sadiq says he can't keep track of 400 jihadists allowed back in the country after fighting for ISIS, he has no trouble keeping hundreds of police officials busy on computers with trumped up charges at the ready.

Some 25 people have been arrested on the advice of TellMAMA a group that has been found red-handed artificially inflating hate crime figures

The Telegraph reported that many of their hate crime claims were exaggerations at best, and that out of the 212 “Islamophobic incidents” reported by Tell Mama, 57 per cent happened only online, with a further 16 per cent of incidents not being verified. Only eight per cent of incidents involved physical targeting, and no attacks were serious enough to require medical treatment.

so let's recap, no arrests of terrorists, keeping track of 400 known jihadists is just "too difficult", but he has his resources doing this.

I fear Britain is a lost cause

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I fear Britain is a lost cause

Yes, you've repeatedly said so. It's surrendered, it's been defeated, the white flag, Muslim overlords, etc etc etc.

In the real world, however, Britain and the Mayor of London remains steadfast in it's provisions to all its citizens. In between electioneering, natch.

No amount of tweets and trolling by enemies of the UK will affect it. Despite the best efforts from Joffrey and his lickspittles.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@clamenza

While Sadiq says he can't keep track of 400 jihadists allowed back in the country after fighting for ISIS

Stop making things up. When did Khan say this one then? You still haven't got back to me on your earlier false claim that he said PC is more important than lives, and you know you can't prove this latest one either.

Whats the fixation with Khan, anyway? If you want to talk about the tracking of jihadists in the UK, fair enough - but that is not Khan's job. Please talk about the people who are actually responsible for that, if you have the slightest clue who they are.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Whats the fixation with Khan, anyway?

He stood up to Trump and he's a Muslim. That's a double whammy to some people...

“There aren’t words to describe the grief and anger that our city will be feeling today. I am appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists would deliberately target innocent Londoners and bystanders enjoying their Saturday night.” There can be no justification for the acts of these terrorists and I’m quite clear, we will never let them win, nor will we allow them to cower our city or Londoners,” Khan said.

Here

but this was a deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners and visitors to our city enjoying their Saturday night.

And I can't believe it but here's The Daily Mail(!!!!) from 2 years back

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3325538/I-worry-daughters-groomed-ISIS-lured-Syria-warns-Labour-s-candidate-London-Mayor-Sadiq-Khan.html

Mr Khan told a Westminster lunch that the Paris attacks showed the need to do more to stop radicalisation in the UK.

‘It is a cancer eating at the heart of our society, all the time,’ he said. ‘And if we’re honest, not enough has been done to root it out. ...

Our role must be to challenge extremist views wherever we encounter them.

‘To challenge this perverse ideology, and to insist that British values and Muslim values are one and the same.’

Mod: apologies for lengthy post but the smears need to be replied to. Thanks.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It's not about smears, he might be a very decent man, I believe so, but when it comes to this, he's way over his head and No one had the guts to tell him, even Piers Morgan or all people excoriated him and good on him for doing so.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

No one had the guts to tell him

Having 'the guts to tell him' what you think of the job he's doing, and attacking him for positions he doesn't take and statements he didn't make, are two very different things.

The problem with Trump's outburst is that he did the latter.

Sadiq Khan has condemned terrorists without reservations. Not just in the UK, either.

Your President took 3 days to condemn the Portland murders. 3 whole days.

Thats the underling problem that Khanfailsto address.

Sadiq Khan has condemned terrorists without reservations. Not just in the UK, either.

It doesn't matter how much he condemns it if he doesn't take any preventive measures to curtail or minimize the problem.

Only the bigots. And who cares about them?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

@bass

It doesn't matter how much he condemns it if he doesn't take any preventive measures

Why do you think he hasn't? And, far more glaringly, why do you lay this entirely at his door, when the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, police chief, and intelligence services are far more responsible than the Mayor of London for tracking extremists and preventing attacks? Why the fixation on Khan? We know Trump has a personal animosity to Khan, but have you simply taken up that same animosity through Twitter osmosis or something?

@clamenza

I feel bad for Londoners

So precious; nobody cares how you feel. Prove your claims about Khan, or stop commenting on this thread about Khan.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

"It doesn't matter how much he (Mr. Khan) condemns it if he doesn't take any preventive measures."

Maybe he has. I certainly do not expect him to tell me about them.

That said, I can only wait for the next attack and hope that neither my family, friend nor I are victims. Taking up a martial art for self-defense might be wise. Staying alert, too. (Sorry. This is Japan where I can't expect other people to be alert.)

Converting to Islam won't do me any good as Muslims don't give off an aura which identifies them. Besides, what if I convert to the wrong sect?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

So Mr Khan is a Muslim - one of them... So what's he doing ?

The "One of them", "not one of us", is behind the scenes bubbling up, not through the UKIP racism, but through a historic lack of integration, xenophobism from all sides which has led to an internal sub-society within the UK.

Nothing other than a reversal of this breakdown of integration will result in a solution within the UK, and the UK will continue to be the source of Terrorists within Europe.

Forget the nice words. Action, is needed, and "Teresa Mays" words don't help - they're really outdated and too Toffish.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Dear Mr. Khan: Here is my advice to solve the problem of escalating terrorism in the U.K. First, identify the problem, propose an innovative solution and implement it as public policy, redefine the problem when the solution doesn't seem to be working, ignore the original solution's collateral damage, then blame the opposition for preventing full implementation which would have solved the original problem. The details are yours. Thank me later.
