if this had been a court of law with normal rules of criminal procedure, Donald would have already been issued his prison uniform and been broken in.

Fortunately for him and unfortunately for us, the “jury” in this “trial” consisted of chinless Ted, 5-chinned Mitch, little Marco, and androgynous Lindsey And the fix was in from the start.

So Don, you got away with inciting an insurrection against a legally elected co-equal branch of government. You also got away with being an accomplice in the murder of a cop.

Enjoy it while it lasts because the 43 invertebrate eunuchs of the US Senate will not be the jurors in your tax, election fraud, wire fraud, (basically any kind of fraud) cases.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Creven Ted, lil Marco and Bro boy Josh may think today is a good day. it’s not.

None of them will ever be president.

Bit of a silly headline. Surely should say “as Democrats fail to make their case.”

If you watched the proceedings and thought Trump's lawyers did a better job than the democrats... Well, you're really the only one, because even republicans thought Trump's lawyers did a terrible job. Hell, Trump's lawyer himself said the democrats did a great job.

So maybe, just maybe, it wasn't really a problem of "making a case" or not, but simple partisan skullduggery from the usual suspects.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

US politics is gradually descending into high farce. With jokers like

White nationalist like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Josh Hawley, etc...

There fixed it.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Bit of a silly headline. Surely should say “as Democrats fail to make their case.”

US politics is gradually descending into high farce. With jokers like Schumer and Pelosi and their minions like Swalwell and Nadler eat al at the helm looks like things are only going to get sillier.

I wonder who will pay for Trump's legal fees? Elon Musk?

If history holds, they will be suing him in the future for their fees.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Tribalism is supporting your leader when you know he is a criminal!!!

The coward McConnell alluded to a criminal prosecution, that’s something which will happen soon to donald. There’s plenty of stuff he got away with earlier, but are under spotlight due to his criminal presidency.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

I wonder who will pay for Trump's legal fees? Elon Musk?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

To read the stuff Qrump supporters here say is funny, they go on and on about the left the supposed socialist agenda of the Dems and Biden, they sound like Cult members seeing things not there and ignoring facts right infront of them.

This whole time living in Japan where they are benefiting from a far more socialised system than anything the Dems or Biden would do. You live with Japanese national healthcare, social services, etc.. you live in a society that nearly everything is based around the social equality but you claim that that would be the end of democracy if even a fraction of that would be available in the USA. The question is simple if the USA is so free and the system so good why do you live in a country that has all the things you claim are bad?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Untouchable.

lol, tell that to the multiple states that are investigating him for election , tax fraud and rape.

if the GOP want a record turnout against them again like in 2020 theyll have Trump on the card in 2024.

nothing galvanises support of the Dems and independents than having Trump running, record number of republicans are leaving the party and registering as independents. The only way the GOP can win elections is voter suppression which they have done and continue to do

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The funny or sad thing here is.. that people here totally exhibit Tribalism. You're either one side or the other.

There's no acceptable in-between or "flip-flopping".

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Well this is the nail in coffin, the future is over, the next elections will be all contested with violence.

If Biden or Harris (Whichever is running for president next time) loses all they have to do now is call for violent attack on the Congress, tell the DOJ not to deploy, and I don't see the Capitol police even bothering to try and protect the GOP members. I doubt the Dems, would do it but I suspect the GOP would in a split second, I mean lest face it the white nationalist now have full power in the GOP wit Qrumpers in control.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Well, the impeachment is over for Trump, that’s the only thing that matters. Freedom of speech wins again.

Sedition and terrorism won, not freedom of speech. Maybe it is hard for you to tell the difference.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

@zichi - sadly, something which everyone overlooks, is that "Trump" kept to his word - he did what he said he would do prior to his election - which is why people will vote for him again in the next election. Trump is not a Politician - he does not say sugar coated words, and he says what other normal people say on nights out between others.

He lost his re-election, and that is, thankfully, what the US Democracy allows for.

One does not have to like the man, but going after him post election, shows just how messed-up US Politics is, surely there are bigger things to focus upon than "one-up-man-ship" ? I mentally support neither side - thankfully, as I do not reside in the US, though from an outsiders perspective, I think that they're all looking a lot Childish.... playground/school team stuff - but the worrying thing is, will it ever end as such ?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

No. If fact, you couldn't name a single country on earth that is more fair and where anyone regardless of race or religion can go further.

Canada.

Your neighbor.

But hey, don't let truth get in the way of your American exceptionalism. You guys have the greatest democracy in the best country ever. Really!!

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Thanks Jsapc

You're welcome! Everyone knew from the start nothing would change you fox news-addled mind, but it's nice too feel appreciated.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Not sure which people are angry about the most here, the fact that he was acquitted or that he will be out of the headlines and lose out on their daily bashing.

There is still a media circus around him but he is a circus act.

It would be good to throw him in the dustbin of history but his legacy of spreading conspiracy theories, inflammatory trash and lies is still alive and well in the GOP.

Look at Taylor Greene. She crawled out of the swamp Trump helped create.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

So perhaps, just perhaps, the government can get back to work trying to actually help the nation instead of posturing and signalling.

It's doubtful. The minority just told the majority that they have the right to run rampant on the country without repercussion.

As if that can be healed. America is now on the record as a banana republic.

I certainly will be encouraging my government to divest its interests from Americans, by voting for my politicians who will do so. It's the only way we can protect ourselves from the collapse of the American hegemony.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Most in the GOP are the biggest cowards are the biggest cowards the US has ever produced in history, and the US has produced a LOT of cowards, especially of late (the biggest being Trump himself). I honestly hope Trump runs again and knocks all of their ambitions (and it would be fun watching them attack Trump, because they can't now) out the window, splitting off into a third party and destroying the GOP forever.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

A Foregone conclusion from the start.

Perhaps the US can move forward for the next 4 years and get on with this without a continual "He said" / "She said" argument which has become the backbone for the likes of CNN

The US has become dysfunctional.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The Dems and RINOs are so terrified of Trump coming back in 4 years.

Anyone who doesn't support autocracy and white nationalists should be terrified of Trump coming back. If you're looking forward to it, well, that says a lot about your values.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Democracy in the United States of America got another severe thrashing.

February 13, 2021 is another date that will live in infamy.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

The ‘verdict’ doesn’t make Trump not guilty.

It makes 43 Senators complicit.

America is broken.

Hard to see how it can be put together again.

Certainly all the king’s horses and all the king’s men won’t be able to fix it.

The beacon on the hill has turned into a conflagration.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Yes, as unsurprising as the sun rising every morning. The GQP is over. They are their own worst enemy.

Right, next up, Georgia or SDNY?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Unsurprising result. The vast majority on both sides had their minds made up before any evidence was given. So perhaps, just perhaps, the government can get back to work trying to actually help the nation instead of posturing and signalling.

And perhaps, just perhaps, the media can start to heal from the large Donald-sized hole there will be in their coverage and programming. And journalists can go back to being advocates for the people instead of shills for whatever political party they support.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

The Dems and RINOs are so terrified of Trump coming back in 4 years.

-12 ( +3 / -15 )

The cult of The Donald, in many ways a media monstre creation, from a politically unique set of circumstances originating from Hilary Clinton candidature for the 2016 election, and resulting failure to secure the presidency?

Donald Trump is not, never has been, and never will be, a diplomat or politician.

Donald Trump has no time, experience or inclination for the nuances of modern-day organization or protocols of high political office.

Is it any wonder then, that Donald Trump refused point blank to accept defeat, and such an event would lead to a Jan. 6 rally becoming a march to the Capitol?

The political establishment, the media, created The Donald, all have a to accept a measure of responsibly when the political Pandora's box lid springs loose.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Trump’s biggest supporters

Trump supporters aren't a group, they are an ideology.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Not sure which people are angry about the most here, the fact that he was acquitted or that he will be out of the headlines and lose out on their daily bashing.

If you think he is going to allow himself to be out of the news you've been in a coma for the past four years. His acute narcissism, insecurity, and ADD won't allow him lay low - he has to have the constant adoration...

And between all the upcoming criminal trials for the insurrectionists who will try to defend themselves by saying "they were just following Trump"....

And the current ongoing investigation into all the tax and insurance fraud in the Trump Org...

To the criminal investigation by the Georgia prosecutor on his phone call to illegally change the election....

Trump will continue to be newsworthy...mostly for all his crimes...

8 ( +10 / -2 )

donald split the party into real bigots and true conservatives.

it sure is a good thing!!!

7 ( +9 / -2 )

The extreme humiliation of McConnell just keeps making me smile. I thought it would be because of the Dems, not his own party. Makes it even sweeter. :)

8 ( +11 / -3 )

@lincolnman

Graham certainly had it right in 2016; "If we elect Donald Trump as our nominee it will destroy the Republican Party"....

Well said Lindsey...

and despite this astute prediction, this scumbag has been one of Trump’s biggest supporters.

He just justifies my comment above.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Zichi: The best justice is that Trump is no longer in office and unlikely to ever again.

I enjoy the fact I don't have to listen to his idiotic statements on social media every day. Cut off at the knees.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

'Burning BushToday 06:34 am JST

Untouchable.'

You pronounce that like it's a good thing.

The GOP party just revealed themsleves to be craven cowards that stand for nothing that America was supposed to stand for. 'Yay!' I guess.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

No, you’re just angry Trump was acquitted.

I'm so grateful Trump isn't president, I couldn't be angry.

I'm just sad at how far the nation has swung towards nutters and the flaccid GoP. In a normal world, it would have been an easy decision to convict Trump.

Like a common dictator, he clearly put his own interests before the interests of the country.

I considered myself a conservative. I started losing interest in the GoP when they sided with religion over science, and the wholesale lies about fiscal responsibility, smaller non-intrusive government.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

@zichi

He has managed to split the republican party into two

the worst thing is, the republican politicians don’t care. They are only thinking about themselves, & being re-elected. Their order of priority is themselves first, party second, country third.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

No, you’re just angry Trump was acquitted. Just relax, it was the right and only thing to do.

I just can't believe people are so anti-democracy lol

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

I would suggest a minor correction with the last sentence. Voter participation is the next central boogie man; they’ve been attacking it for years now.

Very true. It has been ongoing and will only increase because of the inherent issues with the decreasing GoP base of voters.

I just see voter participation as being the focus following the success of people like Stacey Abrams. If Obama can get the Nobel Peace Prize (not saying it was justified), Stacey Abrams should be a strong contender.

Here is a theory, Trump has lowered the bar so far that politicians whose careers would normally have ended with some minor offense will not be cancelled. Maybe something good coming out of the Trump era.

Attack ads will have less effect, and voter turnout will be the ultimate goal to effect any political change. Imagine that.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Trump said on Saturday that the Senate impeachment trial had been another phase of the "greatest witch hunt in the history of our country

The witch escaped but got broomed out of office in the election and that's even better justice.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Believe me, absolutely NO ONE is or will be remotely upset about not hearing about Trump ever again.

Can't be avoided though. Even in Biden topics, all I still hear about is Trump.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Just stop with the race card. It doesn’t help anymore, it divides the nation and if the Dems care, talk about unifying the country, that talk will never unify anything, so if that’s what the Dems want, continue to play the race card.

It is undeniable that there are systemic racial issues in the population that need to be addressed. Some of it will be cancelation, like the changing of names of military bases. The big changes needed are changes to policing and protecting minorities from those in power with racist tendencies. Those changes will benefit all, but must be measured to address the historical issues. Making an obvious generalization, but the CA police are out of control, and not just with respect to race. That kind lack of respect for the public they are charged to protect has to change.

The cancel culture is also a new issue given the increased access to social media. I'm amazed to see the younger generation seeking notoriety by finding an incident to cancel. It will hopefully mature and pass.

I'm a little torn on the recent firing of the Mandalorean star, but I've always seen Disney as active in protecting their image. Historically, they "fired" many stars for smaller things, like showing sexuality. However, morality and image clauses have always been in their contracts. There needs to be some balance, and hopefully that balance will be found.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The enriched and emboldened Trump whose only reason for living is money and what and who it can buy will wear his two impeachments and acquittals like badges of honor on his narcissist breast proving his invulnerability to his persecutory delusions of "witch hunts", but he ought to remember that although the warrior-hero Achilles had no bone-spurs, he did have a heel. In the next 12 months we will see how tender Trump's heel is when he is forced to testify at last in the string of criminal proceedings that the requirements of plain, "equal" justice beyond the purview of cowardly, self-serving politicians demand.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

that he will be out of the headlines and lose out on their daily bashing.

Believe me, absolutely NO ONE is or will be remotely upset about not hearing about Trump ever again.

(Except Trump himself, of course.)

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Not sure which people are angry about the most here, the fact that he was acquitted or that he will be out of the headlines and lose out on their daily bashing.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

I don’t recall any Democrats standing up for him or any other black conservative.

Oh boy. Are you suggesting that democrats should stand up for all black conservatives just because... They black?

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Not surprising sadly, but the GOP.....what a bunch of absolute COWARDS!!!!

Mitch.......what a pathetic piece of work, may you ROT in the place BELOW hell!!

Well a lot of repubs will now be FAMOUS for their COWERDICE, your names will be in history books for a long long time! For shame!

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Well, we now know where the GQP goes from here...

McConnell, Cheney, Haley, and the other traditional Repubs are done with Trump - they know he is toxic poison with independents and more moderate Repubs. They'll continue to purge the Trump cultists from the party, and swing it back to its more fiscal disciple, free trade, family values principles...

Graham, Cruz, Hawley, Nunes, and the rest of the MAGA flock will have to depart and create another party.

What this will do is split the conservative vote, creating two parties that on their own can never reach a majority - leaving Democrats in power.

Graham certainly had it right in 2016; "If we elect Donald Trump as our nominee it will destroy the Republican Party"....

Well said Lindsey...

7 ( +11 / -4 )

.When Biden does things like killing the Keystone pipeline in the first day.

That won’t win him any supporters on that front going into 2024.

True, but it will be a distant memory by that time. By the time 2023 rolls around, we should have CV under control and the economy back up and running. Renewable energy will start trending even higher, and more people will be employed in that industry. Keystone will be hardly talked about.

The GoP will need to find other things to whine about and create fear. As long as Biden stays away from the only true GoP base issues and fear mongering, gun rights and freedom of religion, the GoP will have little to offer. The S.Ct is heavily and disproportionately weighted with Catholics, so they will put checks on religious freedoms.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

The impeachment was not a court of law, so bipartisan politics was the decider. The decision itself doesn't matter much because we knew the weasels would never vote something they don't have: moral fiber, conscience and simple sensibility.

From here, as Trump gets taken to court for criminality, he will be found guilty, much like his cohorts like Stone and Cohen, were. Because when he is guilty, he will be actually found guilty. And when he gets prison time, there's no one who will give him a pardon in the next 4 years.

Those who are interpreting the acquittal as a victory, LOL. No, man, it's like parents who find their kid innocent of everything, no matter what that kid does. LIsten to McConnell, he 100% says Trump is guilty. There's no doubt in his mind, yet he acquitted.

His opinion is not how I would see it, but we all knew this is not a court of law, and many of the Republicans didn't care for, and some didn't bother to listen to, arguments being made. They should have, but didn't. It was no victory for Trump, his actions on Jan. 6 are now transparent, shown by the house prosecutors, who paralleled the insurrection with Trump's time line and inaction. He incited violence, did not try to stop his supporters from attacking our democracy and didn't care about his VP's endangerment. Talk about zero loyalty, he only cares for himself. What a joke. If he were someone's friend, he'd be ostracized pretty quickly, for being a selfish. A me only individual. But his followers cannot comprehend that because they're emotional and not critical thinkers.

Trump will have caring jurors, unlike GOP senators, for his criminal trials upcoming, where he will be found guilty of his crimes in the near future. Unlike this political trial of impeachment, which exposed him to guilt, bipartisanship won't work in his favor.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

He sure would as most conservatives are.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Dems have been using the race card for over 12 years now,

It has been far longer than that, and there is a reason for it.

Big corporations are starting to hedge their contributions to the GoP. They have many employees and customers that do not like were the GoP is going.

We will start seeing right wingers denigrate corporations, not just MSM and Big tech, for their "political activism."

There will also be a shift in spending to get voters to vote rather than waste hundreds of millions on ads that don't change anything. Stacey Abrams spent $5M and turned out 600,000 new voters, and that turned Georgia.

Voter participation is the next boogie man for the minority party.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The fact that donald is cowering in his bunker is enough proof he’s finished politically.

The criminal prosecutions that will follow should finish him financially too. The same will happen to his idiots!!!

8 ( +11 / -3 )

What a ghastly, cringeworthy, horrendous, political spectacle/charade.

From the outset the political establishment should have observed, agreed and stated, “nothing to see here move along.

And Donald Trump would have faded into nothingness on some faraway golf course.

But no, the conclusion was a lesson in “poisonous political polarization”

The first amendment, however one defines the relevance , was always political mephitis skulking in the back ground.

There are occasions in politics best left well alone, This second impeachment trial was worst than pointless.

The fight club montage, will stick like political gorilla glue.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

bass: Well, if the msm media weren’t as bias, hateful or as spiteful, Trump would have had a higher approval rating as well.

So you're saying the MSM kicked his rear, too? Yet another reason for both of us to hope that he runs in 2024. Trump obviously can't compete with the MSM while Biden has them eating out of his hand.

Yet another example of Trump losing.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Trump was rightfully impeached twice and wrongfully acquitted twice by sycophants.

Biden talks about unity, won’t happen if the left continue to obsess about Trump, definitely won’t help the country.

Biden understands what he means by unity, and it doesn't mean getting Lucy to change her game.

It means getting the population behind the policies. They are behind nearly all of his policies and are overwelmingly behind the stimulus.

When Biden does things like killing the Keystone pipeline in the first day. That doesn't do anything but appease the environmentalists. The oil will still be pumped from the ground and end up in the air.

Trump is done for now as far as the Democrats are concerned, only conservatives need to be worried.

The population just needs to worry about the onslaught of new Jim Crow laws being introduced to stop voting against the party with only minority support on the national level.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Trump will be a liability for the republicans. A black mark.

Same people who say this would have also said it would be the end of the Republican party if he was convicted because Trump supporters would turn their backs on the party. Save your your job or have a black sheep in your company, which would you choose?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

You could bet that if it was a secret vote then the result would have been different. Politicians doing what politicians do, protect their own buts.

State prosecuters still lining up for their turn, which will not be influenced by politics.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Trump and his Republicans have thrown down the gauntlet.

The unprincipled Republicans have been throwing it down for the last 5 yrs, but the timorous Dems have never known what to do with it after they pick it up as we now see again like we're trapped in a Groundhog Day scenario with the predictable outcome of the second impeachment where a conviction both on prima facie and circumstantial evidence alone should have been a slam dunk. I'm no lawyer, but what on earth were the "Keystone" Dems thinking by restricting the articles of impeachment to one narrowly defined charge instead of a whole slew picked from Trump's smorgasbord of lawless acts. Instead of a thorough investigation of the high crimes and misdemeanors and by rushing the softball proceedings in Congress and in the Senate faster than you can say "Benghazi", the inexplicably naive Dems played fast and furious into the hands of their ruthless Republican colleagues led by "Mitch the Knife". No witnesses? No testimony from citizen Trump? No damning documentary evidence? The shameful acquittal of the most incompetent rogue to ever represent America in a sham impeachment , a toothless travesty of justice is a black eye for the Constitution and the "Founding Fathers" while the soiled and tattered reputation of American democracy is being toasted by jubilant despots and authoritarians of all stripes around the world. I and many others have always known that our anger and frustration would in the end be directed to the corrupt duopoly that has usurped its powers to belie and betray Lincoln's promise of a government of the people, by the people, for the people. We should now spare a thought for the "forgotten men (and women)", the duped "deplorables" who enriched Trump with their millions of small contributions and who will be soon get a taste of 100% proof American "justice" (like the Biden administration is preparing for Assange) when they are pitilessly prosecuted and served draconian sentences for following their leader's incitement to march on the Capitol. John Brown's body lies a-moldering in the grave and Ben Franklin's must be turning in his: in the hands of its present rulers the Republic is in mortal danger.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

American Justice.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

More than 200 people have been arrested and charged so its far from the last over.

Well, the impeachment is over for Trump, that’s the only thing that matters. Freedom of speech wins again.

-14 ( +3 / -17 )

The ones crowing about ‘The Establishment’ being against donald should realize that the same ‘Establishment’ acquitted him today.

His bigots, on the other hand , were responsible for getting him impeached!!!

6 ( +9 / -3 )

bass: It’s over, focus on Biden, he’s the President now.

Wait, you mean "What about Trump?" isn't something we will be allowed to say every single time you criticize Biden over the next 4 years? Hardly seems fair.

Biden already has a higher approval rating than Trump ever had. More than happy to focus on him rather than that loser Trump.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

bass: but they failed in their attempt to block him, so the door is open and nothing can stop him legally.

Trump running again in 2024? Please, stop teasing me. He just got his rear kicked to the curb a few months ago. His potential to run again in 2024 is most welcome by the Dems. Think of how much damage he will do to the other GOP candidates before bowing out with a couple of hundred million of your money.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

I vote that he's innocent but I say that he's guilty. Oh, what a mess the GOP is these days.

Should be good for the Dems in 2022. Look for Trump, a man with a 38% approval rating and an ass kicking in the national election supporting GOP candidates who will stay under his thumb and spending the rest of his time destroying Republicans who try to distance themselves from him. Should be a nice little war. Trump will be telling the base to vote for the crazy person that will continue to destroy the party, and there's nothing the GOP can do about it. Nothing.

The GOP just solidified themselves as the party of Trump, QAnon, the Proud Brothers, white supremacists, and a mob that tried to stop our democracy from performing. Look for the Dems to tie every GOP candidate to that over the next couple of years, and we can see what happened the last time they tried to vote on Trumpism. Seven million vote loss for the White House and the loss of the Senate.

Beautiful.

Hmmm...ahhh...well, anyway, the Dems made themselves look like fools again, bottom line. It’s over, focus on Biden, he’s the President now.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

The GOP have won a battle but lost the war.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

This just cracks me up from McConnell:

"There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day," he said. "The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who voted "not guilty,"

Beautiful.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

The second time twice? You don't think you might have repeated yourself just a bit there?

Not me, but the Dems did and what a farce that was, eh?

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

The chances of Trump going to prison are about as likely as Trump getting impeached for a “third time.” Not going to happen.

Look, liberals should forget Trump, focus on Biden and the country and whatever happens in the future, happens and the Dems can deal with it then, but Biden talks about unity, won’t happen if the left continue to obsess about Trump, definitely won’t help the country.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

57 to 43? Well, at least his streak of losing the popular vote is intact.

Now we can all look forward to his tax fraud trial. And the insurance fraud one. And the one about trying to commit election fraud in Georgia. And the one about mortgage fraud.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Freedom of speech wins.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

The GOP is in for hard times, the bigots who stand with donald will struggle once he is prison, the real conservatives will face opposition from the bigots and the infighting will drive the party into irrelevance!!!

5 ( +9 / -4 )

"The second time." "Twice." "Rightfully." Really. Not even the correct word, but...

No, it’s the second time and you guys across the pond don’t need to worry, he poses no harm to you whatsoever, but in the US, for the establishment, might be a different story.

I wouldn't call that "rightfully." Or "rightly."

I call it “rightfully.”

I wonder if McConnell would voted for acquittal if he'd been a juror in a criminal trial with rules to guarantee a just and unbiased verdict.

Who knows and frankly, who really cares. I’m just happy with the verdict and I hope the Dems think twice...(yeah, right) before wasting tax payer money on crap like this.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Sadly unsurprising. But he’s still done and we can look forward to not hearing anything more about him.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Knew this was going to happen, now for the second time in history Trump was rightfully acquitted twice

"The second time." "Twice." "Rightfully." Really. Not even the correct word, but...

McConnell sharply criticized his former ally in a speech on the Senate floor shortly after Trump was cleared in a 57-43 vote, saying the rioters had been "fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth. Because he was angry he'd lost an election."

"Former President Trump's actions that preceded the riot were a disgraceful, disgraceful dereliction of duty," added McConnell. "Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day."

I wouldn't call that "rightfully." Or "rightly." I wonder if McConnell would voted for acquittal if he'd been a juror in a criminal trial with rules to guarantee a just and unbiased verdict.

A proper jury trial or a secret ballot would have delivered a different result from a farcical Senate impeachment trial.

Maybe...if it were a criminal trial, but it’s not and it wasn’t, it was a political sheep show from the start and failed miserably....again.

donald will not be running anything or running for anything ever.

Yeah, the Dems hope he doesn’t, but they failed in their attempt to block him, so the door is open and nothing can stop him legally.

Give it a year and his disgusting brood will kick him out of the business, no one wants anything to do with a tainted bigot!!

Uh-huh....like Trump will be impeached, Mueller will get him, they can use the 25th amendment, none of it worked and it all failed, keep telling yourselves that, but now he can definitely run if he wants, his choice and his decision.

Nikki Haley turning on donald is just the start!!!!

The establishment never liked Trump from the start so that’s kind of old news. Nikki can run, but she won’t be able to capitalize or even muster a third of supporters Trump has. Brit Hume, Alan Dershowitz and Jonathan Turley were right, this failed attempt actually makes Trump politically stronger now.

No one is accountable for anything in that country . An absolute joke ... and we’re still all waiting for the proof of the election fraud four months later ....

These worms have set a very dangerous precedent. What'll happen in the future when somebody like Hitler comes along? Such a person will have a chance to take over the government and become a dictator.

Oh, but it's January so it's too late and we have more important things to worry about. And besides Trump might send his supporters after me. I might lose my job or even my life! It's best to just follow the big lie and obey.

That kind of thinking is dangerous and it was the same way when Hitler rose to power.

I hope Trump doesn’t haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Doubt it. They'll have the consolation of knowing that he was acquitted on a technicality by Republican Senators, not because they actually thought he was innocent but because they had an excuse to weasel their way out of losing the votes of his looney tunes base. A proper jury trial or a secret ballot would have delivered a different result from a farcical Senate impeachment trial.

The Dems knew this was a futile attempt and yet, they still went for it, now that was truly disgusting.

Trump knew that turning over the election result was a futile attempt. The violence that followed in support of Trump was disgusting. Holding Trump accountable needed to happen. The Dems took action that needed to happen. There is nothing disgusting about that.

Acquitted. Move on.

Toasted Heretic: Some of Wolfpack’s posts demonstrate his thinking isn’t far from those he admired enough to take his screen name from.

Ahhh.. you do realize the word “heretic” is in your forum name don’t you?

Be wary of those who appropriate eagles, wolves, iron, crosses and other far right symbols.

Wolves are noble animals and just so happens to be my school mascot. Not all that nefarious really. The eagle eagle also happens to be America’s national symbol but I guess that is considered fascist by the Left now just like the flag and the national anthem.

Although, in his case, I reckon his pack is pretty much neutered since 45 was voted out.

I’ve stated numerous times that I am not a Trump fan. I am a conservative and just believe that the Lefts international socialism is a far worse threat. Both political parties spending in particular is a threat to the future of America ( not to mention Japan and several European countries).

-12 ( +6 / -18 )

Despite the majority of them voting not guilty, they have the nerve to come out & admit that Trump was in fact responsible.

Disgusting !

You mean, the Republicans should have convicted Trump to make the left happy so that he’s barred from running again? Yeah, that would have made them happy, but they can’t do that now. The Dems knew this was a futile attempt and yet, they still went for it, now that was truly disgusting.

-7 ( +10 / -17 )

Whatever positives people might try to pull of the impeachment I think it’s disgraceful that 43 GOP senators lied to the American people.

Whatever Mitch might have croaked out later, he and the others are spineless cowardly apologists for the bigot trump!!!

3 ( +12 / -9 )

What a bunch of spineless gutless brainwashed zombies the republicans are.

Despite the majority of them voting not guilty, they have the nerve to come out & admit that Trump was in fact responsible.

Disgusting !

2 ( +15 / -13 )

hundreds of millions know the truth of his guilt. Saved by a very few numbers

Well, some people may think that, that is true and others won’t. Knew this was going to happen, now for the second time in history Trump was rightfully acquitted twice, now we can move on and hopefully the Dems can get over Trump....for now and worry about now, no more wasting tax payer money, no more blaming the guy for whatever political reason, leave the guy alone, he’s for now at least a private citizen, focus on Biden and what he says he will do and worry about Trump later, should he run, but isn’t the meantime, Biden is the one that has the floor.

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who voted "not guilty," offered scathing remarks about the former president after the verdict.

That’s the GOP for you, their balls and brains have changed places!!!

5 ( +14 / -9 )

Cowards!

Seven Republicans did the right thing.

The rest are abject cowards.

The Republicans acquitted Trump and convicted themselves.

7 ( +16 / -9 )

Shameful, but like the riot, expected.

The polls show a different opinion, and it isn't good for the GoP.

The party of law and order has become the party of hypocrisy. Nearly all of the political positions are hypocritical. The one exception is their policies to support religious fundamentalism. No hypocrisy in that position assuming you can overlook ideals of personal liberty and being government intrusion on individuals' rights.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

The Republican Party such as it is clearly is the sedition party now. Any claim for a legitimate interest in democracy is done. They are the party of Trump and will do down in flames as Trump, like he does everything else in his life, destroys the party itself. Massive numbers of Republicans are switching to new parties as they do not want to be associated with domestic terrorism and racial hatred. They have enough of failure.

And now Trump has announced his movement has “just begun.”

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/after-impeachment-acquittal-trump-says-his-movement-has-only-just-begun

It’s a good day for America.

Van der Vern's closing argument was outstanding. The dems were on all the state-run cable shows calling President Trump's lawyers "third teamers." The democrats overreach is on full display for the entire world to see.

VdV's entire performance was horrible. To be fair though, he only had a week to prepare. But if we're also being fair, he was only there to express a political opinion in a venue that was not a criminal trial, with biased jurors, who had already predetermined the verdict.

They call those kangaroo courts in other countries. In America it's called The Senate.

5 ( +16 / -11 )

The Trump Curse continues to dog the democrats + RINOs who are now 0-2 in impeachment convictions.

One side had Constitutional scholars, the other side had a personal injury attorney.

defend that.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

If it’s okay for the president, which you clearly believe it is, why would the rest of us be expected to refrain?

Well said.

Time to fight like hell?

Seriously, wonder what the decent men and women who fought off the mob that day, think of this betrayal?

Craven, cowardly 45ists who instigated the sedition, how can they set foot in the Capitol ever again?

3 ( +12 / -9 )

Guilty, as the case was so clearly made.

But acquitted as we all knew he would be. The result for Republicans? Not really a win. Republicans in Congress shown up for the invertebrates they are. Their spinelessness has cost them the opportunity to excise the Trump cancer that’ll continue eating them up. Nice.

3 ( +14 / -11 )

This was a a slam dunk. He did it. In our heart of hearts, we all know it. he’s guilty AF.

If it was a criminal trial, you'd be right. But it wasn't. It was a political discussion. In the end, America decided that the president is really free to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

Which puts confidence in trade with America about on par with China and Russia. You're probably ok, and there is money to be made, but...

3 ( +18 / -15 )

I think all on this board would agree, time to impeach Kamala, right?

No, but it's time to call out thinly veiled bigotry.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

The saddest thing is that the counter backlash is yet to come.

Please refrain from incitement.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Biden knows who started the Capitol intrusion and it wasn’t Trump. But he’s keeping the fence up around DC for the foreseeable future. Wonder why he’s so paranoid?

-7 ( +13 / -20 )

Trump and his Republicans have thrown down the gauntlet. They have clearly shown they want their tyranny of the minority to prevail. They have accepted into their ‘big tent’ America’s most violent and extreme elements by siding with Qanon, Proud Boys and the dozens of other extreme right, white nationalist groups. Look for even more and even worse violence to follow.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

This was a a slam dunk. He did it. In our heart of hearts, we all know it. he’s guilty AF.

If it weren’t for the 43 invertebrate Eunuchs of the GOP Dononald J Trump would be well on his way to federal prison

2 ( +18 / -16 )

And with this as precedence, he must be acquitted. That’s how this works.

Well yes because the point of impeachment and Senate trials has now become politics by other means.

-11 ( +9 / -20 )

GdTokyo: Donald Trump engages in the big lie that the election was stolen. It was not. there was no election fraud. Period. Full stop.

The Big Lie was that Trump colluded with Russia. The Big Lie was Hillary Clinton stating over and over that the election was stolen from her. Those Big Lies and the vitriol that followed led to polarization and a backlash from that Left that led to four years of constant political civil war waged by the Left against the legitimately elected president. Seen in context it’s not surprising that the backlash was bound to occur. The saddest thing is that the counter backlash is yet to come.

The Dems attempt to pervert the Constitution has been thwarted. Time to move on. Unless of course the Left still doesn’t have their hatred out of their system and attempt to impeach him again. At this point there is little to stop Pelosi from doing so again.

-9 ( +16 / -25 )

A sad day for America.

But in all reality, it’s a better day for the rest of us. This is the nail in the coffin of the American hegemony. The rest of us always knew that we could count on America to do the right thing overseas, but they set a good example internally at least. Now that’s gone too. And with their foreign policy drastically changing course every four years, and leadership with no accountability, any government that isn’t taking measures to divest their interests from America’s are not planning responsibly for their future.

America is a banana republic.

0 ( +21 / -21 )

they call him out for creating a super spreader event, he created a mob that killed a cop. At his instruction. what an embarrassment to American Democracy. And Mitch, no -we are not going to forget.

5 ( +16 / -11 )

Any leaked phone call or violence by a political acolyte after he says the word “fight” in a speech can be grounds for impeaching him with no witnesses required or time allowed for him to defend himself.

And with this as precedence, he must be acquitted. That’s how this works.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

Time to go back to packing stadiums full of adoring fans.

And spread the virus.

Brilliant.

1 ( +14 / -13 )

Mitch just admitted all the charges.

How do they say “hello” to the Capital Police from this day forward? You saved us. we’d be dead without you. But I voted to acquit.

How does he look them in the eye? Because I could not,

14 ( +24 / -10 )

This has shown the GOP for the utterly evil, wicked, corrupt, organization they are. I will never vote for any Republicon or anything affiliated or leaning towards them ever again. Vote for Independents, Vote for Moderates, Vote for Democrats... but never ever vote Republican. They do not believe in justice, only greed, deceipt, power mongering and corruption.

6 ( +20 / -14 )

Dems playing Charlie Brown and the Senate pulls the ball away again. Acquitted again. There’s always next year. Third time man get be the charm.

But the terms for impeachment has been redefined. If Republicans take control of the Senate which given history as a guide is very likely, Biden can be easily impeached. Any leaked phone call or violence by a political acolyte after he says the word “fight” in a speech can be grounds for impeaching him with no witnesses required or time allowed for him to defend himself.

Dems decided that they had to have revenge and satiate their hate and loathing through the instrument of impeachment. But that was the wrong rationale and the wrong setting. Any malfeasance in office can be tried in court after he is no longer in office. But by going this route and losing, they weaken their case now when taking him to court. Certainly incitement will not be possible to try him for in a federal court now.

-13 ( +14 / -27 )

What an absolute embarrassment to American Democracy. The Constitutionality had been decided by a majority. It was Constitutional.

And he’s guilty AF. Practically, Morally, Legally.

Donald Trump engages in the big lie that the election was stolen. It was not. there was no election fraud. Period. Full stop.

NOW Mitch says he was wrong? After voting to acquit? On a process argument? After he personally prevented conviction while Trump was still in office? utter cowardice.

Bold every one of these people accountable because either they are cowards or they are too stupid to ba US Senators.
