Violent thugs.

Violent thugs.

Yeah! Why don't they just lay down and take what the CCP gives them?!

These protestors are nothing more than thugs and hooligans.

Luckily, the protests are getting smaller by the day as more and more locals turn against these rioters.

Yeah! Why don't they just lay down and take what the CCP gives them?!

Its always sadly hilarious when those whose rights aren't being trampled by the CCP disparage those whose rights are.

As long as you are pro-democratic, you can bite.

Your first instinct, as ever, is to side with an oppressive undemocratic state rather than people fighting for democracy and freedom.

Funny that.

Ah_so, your democracy of no ears are worthy fighting.

This is like an a analogy to how HK is biting off the ear of China.

Hopefully as they people of China wake up to their oppression, by seeing how strongly HK fights against Chinese tyranny, they will start to fight for their own freedoms. Combined with the economic damage from the trade war with America, this could undermine and collapse the CCP. This would be the best outcome for all Chinese and HKers.

Down with CCP tyranny. Human rights MUST be respected. The CCP don’t respect human rights and therefore it’s a morally corrupt regime that must fall. Down with Winnie the Xi, Chinese dictator for life. And fat.

As long as you are pro-democratic, you can bite.

Nonsense. Nobody is claiming this. It was probably a mainland Chinese plant causing trouble to harm the credibility of the Hong Kongers. There is no low too low for the CCP.

Strangerland, your human right of biting off other's ears are very well respected

As respected as your human rights of locking up millions of Uighers because they are Muslim, disappearing people for simply criticizing your government, not allowing your citizens to use google, Facebook, etc.

Akie, you will never win an argument about human rights or freedom because your government constantly tramples them.

Invalid CSFR.

Who exactly is fighting for FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY?

Chip Star, in Japan, we are not allowed to use Huawei equipments, and we are not allowed to say China is better. There is nothing wrong, because Japan is democratic.

China has no human right, that is why you can not bite off people's ears.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

in Japan, we are not allowed to use Huawei equipments

yes you are.

Freedom and democracy vs authoritarian state is just a distraction, this is all about recalibrating HK society into an ever more unstable and lawless society. If this was not the case the CCP would have removed Carrie Lam long ago. No government with 2 braincells would ever let society descend into such chaos.

The CCP obviously wants to enter and take over HK completely, like a knight in shining armour, NOW, or very soon. They have shown their true colors, they can't wait until 2047. WHY? If I was a HK tycoon, I'd start moving my wealth offshore into untouchable jurisdictions.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Who exactly is fighting for FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY?

The people of Hong Kong. That's painfully obvious from the article.

In 2014, during Occupy Central, the police were very reluctant to shut down protests, even protests that "disturbed the peace". Even when they finally cleared out the Occupy Central, they showed great restraint.

Many HK police, and I knew quite a few, believed they belonged to the people and they were very reluctant to take action against their own people. And use of force was most definitely as a last resort.

It is clear that 5 years has changed things. And that the rules from the HK government to the police on what they are permitted to do / are required to do has changed dramatically. Without a doubt, it is under direct pressure from the Beijing government. I also have no doubt that the HK police force has hired individuals who are nothing more than thugs with badges.

As a result, the HK police view the people as their adversary. Witness their actions against ordinary citizens. It is not just confined to black-clad protestors. They are also actively targeting what they call "corrupt" journalists!

All of the hallmarks of the security forces on the mainland.

So many commenters here note that the protestors are nothing more than violent thugs. Well, by the same logic, Mao and his happy band of revolutionaries were nothing more than thugs in 1949.

When there is no civil method for the people to seek change from their government, they either have to submit or they have to resort to protests and even violence.

And make no mistake, the HK government does not allow for the will of the people to be expressed through universal suffrage. The CE and her government is a puppet of Beijing. The "elected" individuals have to be screened in order to run and some are disqualified. Such as Joshua Wong. And even then, the legislature is permanently controlled by Beijing because of the individuals chosen by the various industry groups, rather than through universal suffrage.

What we are witnessing is the result of the lack of true democracy in HK, combined with a central government determined to extinguish the freedoms that exist in HK.

The peaceful protestors, the rioters, then the thugs and hooligans should not be lumped together. That’s like saying the ultra right black van driving nationalists in Japan and the peaceful demonstrators orderly walking down Omotesando are one.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The violence by protestors is out of control attacking private business and destroying property isn't the way.

Yes it is the way, That is sometimes what happens when The people stand for Democracy and the Government tries to crash them. The people of Hong Kong were pushed to violence NOT the other way around! Power to the people!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The violence by protestors is out of control attacking private business and destroying property isn't the way.

Youve never had to fight for freedom and democracy have you . The Communist supporting HK Police and HK Government are the only thugs here. What about the violence of the heavily armed HK thug police, against unarmed protesters?

The image of Communists pushing an elderly HK woman to ground is now going around the world. Just like Tiananmen Square 30 years ago.

Down with HK Police and Communist supporting businesses! Power to the People! Democracy for HK!

It seems the ear biter is pro-Beijing.

Witnesses said the Mandarin-speaking attacker drew a knife after a political argument with people in the mall, which was the site of pro-democracy protests earlier in the day. One of the victims, a woman, told the South China Morning Post that the suspect drew a knife after arguing with her sister and her husband, who were also injured. The Hong Kong Free Press reported that that attacker was a Mandarin-speaking pro-Beijing supporter.

Ah_so, your democracy of no ears are worthy fighting.

You're confused, it's a pro CCP protester who bite the ear of a pro democracy district councillor after that same pro CCP protester slashed multiple people with a knife.

Far away in Beijing the reptiles have fixed their basilisk gaze on Hong Kong and will strike when the situation is ripe and the civic rot has festered to their taste . The people of Hong Kong have not received the help they needed from "outsiders" because nervous authoritarians in other countries are observing events with trepidation, all too aware that a people's desire for freedom from heavy-handed government interference is another of those pesky "inconvenient truths" that might cause them to lose their entitlements and their sleep.

The image of Communists pushing an elderly HK woman to ground is now going around the world. Just like Tiananmen Square 30 years ago.

One hopes not. We all remember that horror. Just to clarify, the brutal regime in Beijing is not communist. It is a totalitarian state that has very little to do with the tenets of communism.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Second of all, you shouldn't support violence and terrorists, no matter what.

Sure wish you would have been alive to give that advice to Mao and his violent band of thugs, as they killed to overthrow the rulers of China back in 1949!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Toasted Heretic, your witness is Inadmissible into any courts on the planet of earth.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

The HK govt could easily end the protests. Pass laws that support:

direct elections of representatives

independent investigation of all police claims of abuse

Lam stepping down

No police action needed, just clear communication with actions that back up those intentions.

Pass those laws.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

So did you support the cause of the Japanese communists and Red Army Faction in the 1960's?

I will NEVER support Communism or any government even calling themself "Communist". It is an evil system and should be fought , including companies who do business with PRC. The brave HK Citizens are anti-Communist and pro-democracy, and they need the worlds help.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

All of the tax payers in Japan via tax contributions fund the political system, this includes communist party members.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Ganbare Japan!, no one need your support. Nadie.

.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The Communist supporting HK Police and HK Government are the only thugs here. What about the violence of the heavily armed HK thug police, against unarmed protesters?

China's territory. China's law. China's right. Or is this "logic" only flvalid when defending Japan acting repugnantly?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Toasted Heretic, your witness is Inadmissible into any courts on the planet of earth.

This is absolutely incorrect. An eyewitness is admissible in courts in every free and democratic country on earth. They are literally considered one of the best forms of evidence.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Down with HK Police and Communist supporting businesses! Power to the People! Democracy for HK!

Fan are,

That would be like trashing Japanese businesses that deal with state supported businesses in China. They indirectly support China as with the HK businesses you speak of. No thank you.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Toasted Heretic, your witness is Inadmissible into any courts on the planet of earth.

Were you there, then? I wasn't but am merely giving an option to the Beijing propaganda. The upper echelon hooligans reside there.

I wish the protesters victory and hope that HK will not be subject to further brutalizations from China.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

To all of the China haters here I would say that hate hurts the hater more than the heated. And if I was responsible for a billion and a half peaceful people no external pressure would stop me from eradicating small band of spoiled terrorist and hooligans. It is about time China corrects the error of the history and removes the special status of that foreign interest on its territory. Lease on HK expired and when it was started no provision for a special status was included, that was imposed by the Anglo American alliance under threats. Been to China and met a lot of happy people, they understand that freedom is complicated and can't be unlimited as is in the USA and other exploiting evil empires where the unlimited freedom is a right of the few to exploit majority, majority so brainwashed that while hungry, homeless, in debt over their ears they believe that they are free.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Toasted Heretic, brutalizations from China ? You don't feed HK, China does; you don't protect HK, China does; You don't own HK, China does.

You have your freedom of opinion, but you don't have freedom to speak for HK people, even you pretended you have, and you act as if you had.

HK people are not stupid, HK people don't need your poison support. HK people are dragon's children, black hair forever.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

To all of the China haters here I would say that hate hurts the hater more than the heated.

Perhaps. But I doubt anyone here hates the Chinese people. Rather, the fury is targetted at an authoritarian regime that treats its people poorly. Not to mention imprisons opponents and critics and people of religion, for having the temerity to speak out, or just exist.

And if I was responsible for a billion and a half peaceful people no external pressure would stop me from eradicating small band of spoiled terrorist and hooligans.

What were you saying about hate, again? Talk of eradication is of extreme concern and precisely why we should be suspicious of pro-Beijing voices.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You have your freedom of opinion, but you don't have freedom to speak for HK people, even you pretended you have, and you act as if you had.

Do you speak for the people of Hong Kong? Or Beijing?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Toasted Heretic, China is a sovereign country, Chinese people expect the govt to protect the nation, the UN law support Chinese govt to protect her territory.

International law should be looking at the rights of the citizens of China, in that case.

If you split China, you will be crushed, by all international laws.*

I don't think that's exactly what Xi was referring to, international law. He, like the brutal disgusting dictator he is, is sending out a message to protesters.

Personally, in an ideal world, I'd happily support the breakup of all the superpowers, the same way some are clamouring for the breakup of the EU. Now the latter is more an economic alliance, with a founding in mutual harmony and to prevent the horrors of WW2 ever happening again. So, I'd be less worried about a benevolent organization. Unfortunately, China under the so-called "communist" regime, is not benevolent and it would benefit the rest of the world enormously if it was dismantled. It could then exist as an affiliation of nations and or republics.

In the meantime, it must be watched very closely.

Don’t give HK residents. Fight on. Don’t let the communists win.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Government/police planted agents provacateurs are a real thing. So are trolls who show up at protests to do violence and make trouble for the fun of it. Anyone who paints an entire movement by the actions of a relatively tiny minority of bad people on the scene is completely out of touch with reality.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

these people know whats coming. all freedoms and rights they now enjoy will vanish and they will become just like the millions of mainlanders who swarm on their island to get access to what they dont have.

very sad indeed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Don’t give HK residents. Fight on. Don’t let the communists win.

A sentiment we all share. Still. The communists can't win because the regime is not communist, they are totalitarian and have perverted the basic ideology beyond recognition.

Democratic district councillor Andrew Chiu was among the wounded, blood dripping from his ear. Democratic Party lawmaker James To told reporters the knifeman had bitten off part of Chiu's ear and slashed other people.

He said the other wounded were in more serious condition than Chiu who was seen on TV holding the piece of his ear in a plastic bag with bloody hands.

A kitchen knife lay on the ground outside the mall.

The knifeman is pro-China

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Mike Tyson, what are you doing in Hong kong?

Chip star:

While I agree whole-heartedly (and whole-earedly) about biting peoples appendages off is atrocious behaviour, occams razor would tell us it is a violent protester, not a Chinese plant. That's kinda McCarthyism or Trumps "fake news" retorts on stuff he doesn't like.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Toasted Heretic:

The Chinese are capitalist as well. Don't let the capitalists win

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Burning Bush:

How does the West deal with breaking into shops and biting off ears in riots? I can imagine China showing images of American cities a few years ago or a typical sports hooliganism of Europe.
