Living in a repressive regime like China's, Russia, NK breed frightened submissive misguided frogs incapable of sensing the water's rising temperature. My admiration for HK protesters is immense. Free HK and let these brave protesters lead the way.

Hong Kong is descending into a police state, with police increasingly turning into unrestrained, unaccountable thugs!!

And, of course, the Police Superintendent defends anything and everything that the police do. The police are NEVER wrong!

Not mentioned in this article are two incidents that were just outrageous!!

In one, a fire truck got caught in some tear gas and one of the fireman got out to yell at the police. The police promptly start beating on him, dragging him off and forcing journalists to move away, so that the journalists couldn't see what was happening!!

In another, a man was driving along playing a pro-Hong Kong song in his car. The riot police stopped him, pulled him out of his car, and, again, just started kicking and beating the you-know-what out of him!!

They have become nothing more than thugs! They've learned from their mainland comrades!!

Terrorists are terrorists and should be treated as terrorists according to UN laws.

I have no respect for those who destroy the very cities they live in and other people work in. What good does that do? You protest an oppressive regime by targeting the regime, NOT businesses that employ people who want to make an honest living. These rioters are thugs and their violence is destroying their message. No surprise the general public is turning against these people. It's like the Los Angeles riots of 1992, the protesters did nothing but destroy businesses and lives of those who had absolutely nothing to do with police brutality.

Where is the freedom of expression if news agency can be destroyed, journalists can be attacked, in democratic HK, by pro-democratic mobs ?

I'm sure the people whose rights are under attack by the CCP really care about the opinion of an anonymous internet poster whose rights aren't being attacked.

What good does that do?

It demonstrates how serious the people of Hong Kong are about maintaining their rights and freedoms.

There are times when violence and destruction are absolutely necessary to protect rights and freedoms. We have ample historical evidence of this. The US civil war, WWI, and WWII are just a few instances.

Even biased outlets like CNN are admitting that pubic perception is turning against the protestors in HK.

Oh please! That is just brainwashing the masses. What are they suppose to do, hold hands in a circle and pray to the Government that everything should change? China and the Hong Kong Government brought this on themselves. They are lying to the people. They have gone back on their word regarding the treaty that was written when the U.K.handed her Back over to China. China gets what it deserves. China is the trouble maker and I applaud everything the people of Hong Kong are doing! Do whatever it takes for Democracy in Honk Kong!

Unfortunately, the reason that terrorism have not be destroyed is because they are always supported by the dark side.

And then you do cursory research and find out just how incorrect you are:

But is worth pointing out that some things have changed, at least in Los Angeles. The riots forced the city to take a long, hard look at the infamously brutal LAPD (some argue this police force invented modern police militarization), and some reforms did come.

The CCP supports terrorism? Why don't lodge a complaint with your government. I'm sure you won't be sent to a reeducation camp for further indoctrination. Just check Facebook to see if any of your friends have complained. Oh, wait, you can't because your government won't let you.

FREE Hong Kong!!

The CCP is a terrorist government. They have killed, interned and brainwashed tens of millions of innocent Chinese citizens over the years.

It's no wonder that Hong Kong residents don't want to become another road apple in the CCP's quest for absolute control. Absolute control by CCP=the dark side.

What?

Xi wants absolute power. Hong Kongers don’t want to give it to him.

Why won't your government allow you that freedom? Of what is your government afraid?

This belies the delusion that us here are free and our governments don't oppress us. I suggest looking up Ross Ulbricht who got a double life sentence plus forty years for setting up a website and even if I took stock in the other trumped up charges it still could not explain his sentence.

Then you have the PRISM system of the U.S. government tracking all internet activity. And the fact that censorship has just been largely relegated to corporations to handle, but its there and its essentially the same. Facebook has pulled the plug on over 100 pages that were critical of the U.S. government, military and police.

Sure, we might have relatively more internet freedom than the Chinese, but this under a guise of balance...sort of like how FOX news has lame duck and outnumbered opposition on its shows and then claims to have allowed the opposition its say.

I totally support the citizens of Hong Kong who want their freedom. But I have to shake my head at my fellow posters here who actually believe they themselves are free.

Yet we can visit almost any website we want, use any social media we want, and are able to criticize our governments without fear of being disappeared.

Nobody is 100% free. It's called the social contract. That said, we are far, far, far freer than those under the oppression of the CCP.

Naive argument, Degree matters. Would you like to live in a house with some mould on the walls or one which could collapse on you at any minute?

You seem to enjoy the right to express your honest opinions freely here. Some don’t have that right. Bear that in mind.

I’m impressed with the people of HK showing their solidarity and resolve against China’s tyranny. As long as the terrorist known as the CPP are running China and depriving the Chinese people their rights and freedoms, those whom China would oppress, like HK, must fight for their freedoms. The rest of us need to stand in solidarity behind them.

There are problems with freedoms in many western nations - particularly America since 9-11. But let’s not pretend that these are on the same level as China. If I were in China, the stuff I’ve said about China would have me disappeared. Whereas I would have the freedom to say the things I have said about America were I living there.

I wish the UN well in prosecuting the Beijing terrorists. In the meantime, I fully support the protesters.

I have no respect for those who destroy the very cities they live in and other people work in.

These people cannot yet work in harmony and concert. And they are attacking government infrastructure....the lying news agency and the metro which is closed down by the government anyway. The motives range from outlets of frustration to showing the government they are serious and will destroy things to get their way. Their available methods to communicate to the government are limited and as always, actions speak louder than words.

Your reasons for having no respect defy reality and are paltry at best.

Yet we can visit almost any website we want, use any social media we want, and are able to criticize our governments without fear of being disappeared.

We are more free than the Chinese, but I think you grossly overestimate how much internet freedom we actually have. Censorship is rife. I just got a dose of it myself.

Okay.

Did you have a comment zapped by the mods? The horrors!

That's not the type of censorship we are discussing because it isn't government censorship.
