Penalty shoot-out time and the DUP just stuck the ball up their shirt and ran off.

Full-on chaos

Voter apathy, deceit (Johnson/Farage), and outside manipulation (Putin) resulted in this fiasco and the Tories are committed to it carrying it out, for no other reason than ego. It makes no economic sense and will result in upheaval.  Best to swallow their pride and do what's best for the U.K.

My favorite part of all this is watching the Speaker of the House of Commons. He looks and sounds like he's half drunk in every video he's in, but he also seems to manage that kindergarten of a governmental body with aplomb.

Voter apathy: largest vote in the history of the UK.

Deceit (Johnson/Farage): Please specify what deceit.

Putin: Again, what evidence?

It makes no sense to follow through: Yes, it does. It's called democracy.

Time to carry out the result of the referendum and leave.

It's called democracy.

"If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy."

We all know who said that, don't we? David Davis, former Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union and a hard-Brexiteer.

Deceit (Johnson/Farage): Please specify what deceit.

All of it, from the very start:

"No wide-ranging investigation has taken place, despite the main Vote Leave campaign, fronted by Boris Johnson and Michael Gove, being found by the Electoral Commission to have broken the law.

The National Crime Agency, meanwhile, has launched a separate investigation into evidence of “multiple” criminal offences committed by Arron Banks and the Leave.EU campaign."

Tell us some more about why you think Jacob Rees-Mogg is the best person to be Prime Minister, please.

"Time to carry out the result of the referendum and leave."

Meanwhile, I will be living outside of Britain, just in case.

Tangerine, 2019

"If Brexit is a disater I will go and live abroad!

Nigel Farage, 2016

"We might see some benefits of Brexit 50 years from now"

P Minford, Economists for Brexit, 2019.

This sums up Brexiteers luv for the whole process! We're fcuked with this lot.

The people are waiting. And protesting.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, who heads the ERG group of pro-Brexit Conservative lawmakers, said he would reluctantly vote for May's agreement but only if the DUP backed it or abstained.

It's nice to see the devout catholic Rees-Mogg taking his cue from the DUP; I'm sure they are all heartily amused by that. They wouldn't put him out if he were on fire. Rees-Mogg should learn to think for himself, something Eton clearly didn't teach him.

May should repeal Article 50, resign, and let someone else deal with the mess.

The House shows how archaic and ineffectual it has become!

Parliamentary ‘meaningful votes!

are just oxymorons....

@peepingtom

So according to you, if you live outside the UK for 4 years and go back at the end of it, you are not allowed to have voted in the referendum whether it be for remain or leave?

That's a bit harsh isn't it?

If you're not British (but even if you are), why are you so against British people voting if they live outside the UK, but will go back there to live there in the future?

Theresa May withdrawal deal, specifically related to the customs union backstop plan, has the potential to damagingly remove present and future UK Governments ability to implement trade and economic policies.

From the EU perspective, a clean brake would see the UK relinquishing the requirement for rules of origin whilst ruthlessly undercutting the regulatory standards of the EU’s single market.

Not to mention the negative impact to just in time supply chains. How can any customs union, by its very nature be able to function effectively without a common commercial policy?

The legally enforceable backstop, with the accompanying political declaration has the EU insisting on significant, taxation, employment/social, environmental policy restrictions to establish and maintain a “level playing field” requirement.

Also packed within the withdrawal agreement is a strict, I would suggest onerous governance system that in the event of dispute gives the European Court of Justice a overarching role. Every step of the way May's deal is a method of leverage to push for remain.......

Firstly May should step down with immediate effect . May should have thrown in the towel after running such an appallingly incompetent 2017 General election campaign.

Without doubt the Parliamentary establishment is guilty of the most calamitous betrayal of public trust in its history.

Another General Election could well produce a hung parliament, however political change is sorely needed from top to bottom.

It is not indicative when the promise of a review to the current 15 year policy will materialise, if at all. I think this research briefing is where the process is at the moment.....

Overseas voters.......

Every British citizen who holds nationality should be able to vote where ever they live, just as is the case with Americans.

Probably need 'some' restrictions though as you don't want ppl who acquired citizenship & buggered off back to their home country after 2-3 years (and don't intend to go back) to have a say in a country's politics/future.

Interesting that all/most countries have very different views on this matter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_expatriates_to_vote_in_their_country_of_origin

Theresa May Promises to Step Down as Prime Minister After Destroying Great Britain.

I don't know enough about her to give any opinion on her performance. But I think that regardless of who was the PM after the Brexit vote, they faced an impossible position. The whole thing has been a complete and utter gong show.

A moment of light relief (but not for the guy with the anti-Brexit badge, obvs)

@Tangerine

1) I'm British; and a proud one at that.

I despise Brexit because Brexiteers have been sold a pup. It's an unrealistic proposition, only realisable in the minds of the demented.

Brexit was based on "having a cake and eating it"; it's not gonna happen. This alone is indicative that Brexit is a failure, no matter how nicely they dress it to you.

"So according to you, if you live outside the UK for 4 years and go back at the end of it, you are not allowed to have voted in the referendum whether it be for remain or leave?"

According to moi, you shouldn't vote to cause mayhem, unless you intend to live through it.

We all KNOW that most of those advocating Brexit, are not intending to live here (UK). I am almost certain that when you, Tangerine, see how bad the situation turns out to be (because it will be, if a no deal comes to pass), you'll not return to the mess you've so gladly helped create!

On that note (clueless Brexiteers) we had folks returning to the UK to vote, so called "expats" aka British immigrants:

Many who have lived for over a decade in Spain when questioned, the answer was invariably: because there's too many foreigners in Britain!!!!

There are about 120,000 Spaniards in Britain; conversely, well over 300,000 Brits live in Spain.

Yet these antediluvians came in to extract Britain from the EU because they don't like foreigners living in "their" country!!!! Shocking, enne?!

For others: because Brexit is the chance to stop all these Muslims coming into the country!!!

No need to tell you the amount of Brexiteers who thought/still think that Turkey and Afghanistan are in the EU!!!!

"The best argument against democracy is a five minute talk with the average voter"

@peeingtom

You come across as the type of person who has decided what everyone else's minds, feelings and opinions are, without understanding them.

I'm sorry the vote didn't go your way, but you seem very bitter about it. The UK doesn't 'belong' to you, there are millions of British people who don't share your views. People aren't bad, stupid or wrong because they don't agree with you. Most of what you have typed isn't true at all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

there are millions of British people who don't share your views.

There are millions of British people who share most every view. That's why a referendum is necessary, to figure out what the people want now.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@Tangerine,

As far as I'm aware Britain is not yours either; or do you think it is?!

There are millions of Brits who, like me, don't share your views either.

"Most of of what you have typed isn't true at all"

You're taking the biscuit, ain't you?!

EVERYTHING I said is ascertainable with a click of your mouse; I know you're a JT "expert", but you're totally clueless on this "pal".

Just one link to help "educate" you on this issue; i'm sure you'll find out the rest. If you really want it!!!

https://inews.co.uk/news/brexit/brexit-latest-news-expats-spain-vote-leave-regret-decision/

Britain doesn't belong to anyone, mate.

I'm not going to argue with you. I know you have your own views and you are not likely to change them. I respect that.

However, when you use words like "educate" and "expert" with quotation marks, you just come across as someone with an attitude problem (the excessive exclamation marks don't help either).

You don't have to agree with others, but you have to accept the fact that other people are allowed to have different opinions.

@Tangerine

"There was never any chance of Turkey joining the EU soon. That didn’t stop Vote Leave publishing a report just before the referendum saying Turkey was “scheduled” to join the EU in 2020 – a myth reiterated by UKIP."

https://infacts.org/think-leavers-used-scare-tactic-turkey-joining-eu/

And LOTS of Brexiteers believe, to this day this is true!

Obviously, this proves that everything I typed was incorrect.

Enjoy!

Oliver Letwin, a 62-year-old Conservative former cabinet minister who led parliament's unusual power grab, said it was disappointing that no option had immediately produced a majority, but that this had been expected, and that parliament could try again to find that majority next Monday.

I'm getting the impression that a sufficient number of MP's do not want Britain to leave the E.U., and a deal will never be reached. I know it's too soon to officially have another official vote about whether, or not, to leave the E.U., but something is clearly missing here. Maybe the British public can convince their leaders by reaffirming their desire to leave? Or maybe the public has changed their minds about leaving?
