I am starting to believe that the US will not survive.

Let's not forget that every Trump fan here voted for Trump despite knowing his double conviction for racism against blacks in housing.
Read every one of their comments with that in mind

I remember December 31, 2019. I was looking forward to the new year, a fresh start, elections in Nov. Where did it all go wrong? Someone please press the off and on button for 2020 again. And I'm typing this halfway through the year.

The police are outside agitators, using violence and force to provoke already vulnerable protestors. We have video evidence of police driving into crowds of people. Shooting citizens and journalists for no reason other than to instil fear. Placing bricks on the ground as a pretext for "self-defense". Arresting people who have committed no crime.
Abolish the police.

The beginning of the end for US.

Always have been, though the current president has amped up hatred and divided the nation more than any before. Trump's asked for and received ongoing support from social media posters - some paid, some 'volunteer' - from around the globe. Maybe even some from Krushchev's homeland!

WE GOT OUR ANSWER: FBI FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF ANTIFA AT RIOTS, ONLY FAR RIGHT GROUPS
You can't make this stuff up, but at least we got our answer: Fraudulent Bureau of Investigation. It needs to be disbanded, NOW.

As a person from a country where the police is generally very much respected and trusted, it's awful to watch, read and hear how the US police is behaving, and how little trust there is between the police and the people. I've learned there's only a very short training (6 months) in the US to become a police, and that corruption within the police force is rife.
Corruption is a more complicated, hard issue to deal with, but there really should be longer, proper, unified training and more psychological training for the policemen, and in the first place, a very strict screening for the candidates. Where I'm from it takes years to become a policeman, and only a small percentage of the applicants are accepted in to the academy.

We also have video of storeowners being beaten to a pulp protecting their businesses, homes being looted and stores being looted and burned to the ground with zero police presence. I wanted to remind you that many of moms and pops stores that are Black, Hispanic, Asian and Middle Eastern owned. Items can replaced, lives can't huh? Get in a room with all of the people who have lost jobs and their life savings over this to explain to them how none of this is a big deal.

I think something is going to happen that no one ever thought possible. I am not sure what it is, but something. Its just a feeling watching what is happening in America. This is going somewhere. However, in no way is this Americas downfall.

It's getting worse before getting better. Unfortunately, this is true:
The pulse of the nation asked for a president to preach peace and understanding. Trump did not. In passing, he may have hinted at it once or twice, but the actions he took...what he does defines him. A great leader would not only have said it, he would have lived and shown it. The disdain, anger and petulant behavior of the president of the United States is on display, and it ain't good.
He was arrogant and confrontational, and his words, 'when the looting starts the shooting starts' will live in infamy as will his horrifying pro military stance, a dictatorial take that only exacerbates the volatility, and goes against the soul, empathy, love and goodwill of the United States of America.
People don't look at the military force as one of necessity due to the rioting, rather, an action of hate by Trump. It's been piling up with the incessant lies, racism(fine people on both sides when nazi/white supremacists marched in Charlottesville and killed) and heavy handed thuggish behavior of his.
Sooner or later the back of the camel snaps, when it's overloaded, and Trump put on way too much weight, which just needed an incident like the George Floyd police murder to explode. If smart, he realizes that, but he isn't smart, so now it's a bigger crisis, because of him.
Trump is ruining relationships everywhere, including within our borders. It's not only China, Mexico, England, France, Germany and other countries he is dissing, it's America, her sensibility and people, who are now his enemies. He's no patriot for the American people.

Woah, sounds like the police are pretty bad at their jobs. We should abolish the police and replace it with an organisation that protects people and keeps the peace, rather than going around assaulting and killing people.
OK.
Property is sacrosanct, black lives aren't, huh? Get in a room with all the people who have lost their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters and tell them how Target's corporate earnings are more important.

"I want everybody to know that this is what those officers took from me....," she said, sobbing. "Gianna does not have a father. He will never see her grow up, graduate."
The world grieves for this family which lost a husband and father because of the ignorance and indifference of a fellow human being. After four disastrous years of a phony president American democracy is on a dimmer, but the people's resilience in the face of presidential despotism and their belief in their inviolate constitutional rights will ensure that the hideous cancer of Trumpism will be excised from the body politic, thanks in part to the sacrifice of George Floyd. Gianna will, I hope, be raised in a better America that will know how to honor her father's memory and reassure the world that America will never abandon its commitment to live by its ideals and become the beacon of freedom and home to the poor and oppressed of the world, as dreamed by Emma Lazarus.

Well, looks like right now a crow (not observing social distancing, btw, Corona is all forgotten) is trying to storm the mansion of the NY mayor. Lets see how peaceful they are, and how happy he is to see them vandalazing HIS place of residence for a change.

@heresmycreedo
This is not just about one case, one killing, one victim. It's about an endless chain of victims, and about a system that's profoundly wrong. This is about an ongoing, deep-rooted phenomenon of racism, inequality, corruption. This is about finally changing systems and changing attitudes.
What you're saying is
"It's horrible that a man died, but the looting must stop.",
when you should be saying
"It's horrible that businesses are looted, but the killing must stop."
(the latter from a quote circulating in fb)
Cricky
Really need to pause, it all started let's not forget with excessive police violence resulting in death. Thet needs to be addressed. Sending troops against your own people is not what I would expect a 1st world action to be, China did it and is still trying to cover it up 30 years latter. Addresses the problem be honest, and people won't riot.
WilliB
Vinke:
What exactly does that mean? "Changing systems" does not really mean anything. Exactly what do you want the government to do? And how exactly do you "change attitutes"? Can you be specific?
I can think of a lot of lofty, nice-sounding slogans, which really mean nothing...
Sneezy
It can, and it will.
Americans should count themselves lucky that Black Americans are asking for equality, not vengeance.
Nice profile pic, by the way. Steal it from Twitter all by yourself?
WilliB
Sneezy:
Err, what? Sorry, I am not member of your in-group, so I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. Do you have a concrete example of what exactly you would like to change and in what way? "Changing systems" really means nothing.

sure, people are looting shops, steal food and everything else, burning cars and shops and troops should not be sent

Not surprising so many who've been throwing fuel on fires that have long burned in 'western' democratic countries won't say which 'groups' they're from and represent. But they do seem to come quickly to the defense of one particular non-'western' country.

A question that could be asked is why people of Asian heritage are at the top in virtually every category in the US; income $17,000 annual household income above whites. 54% of Asian Americans have at least a bachelor's degree compared to 35% of white Americans. Only 115/100,000 Asian American are incarcerated compared to 450/100,000 whites. The life expectancy for Asian Americans is 87.1 years while for whites it is 78.9 years. Most of the gaps between white Americans and Black Americans have been narrowing for a couple of decades, slowly but surely but all non-Asian American are falling behind Asian Americans in everything.
vanityofvanities
Some African-Americans in U.S. enjoy astronomical income in sports and music. That gives us an impression that America is an equal place and everybody is given same chances. But, that may be only a hypocrisy to cover the frustrations of many discriminated black people.

Said nothing about looting. Burning shops. If itS such a disfuncianal society surely the POTUS should make it a priority to fix.

I am not talking about corporations, I am talking about minority-owned businesses which you could care less about. Do you dare me to post every single link of videos of people beating storeowners, burning businesses and shooting at each other? No problem. Now do me a huge favor and interview every single of the people above that they were truly doing this in the name of George Floyd then will be donating all proceedings to his family and those who have suffered police brutality. Also wanted to see how much effort you have put into the cause sitting on your sofa in a Tokyo apartment.

@sneezy Not sure what you mean? It doesn't explain that Asians have lower chances of being killed by a cop than white people.

The only way you are going to abolish the police is to eliminate the need for the police. Which means decriminalize all acts that are considered "crimes". All acts, e.g. theft, vandalism, extortion, kidnapping, rape, murder, etc., are decriminalized. When such acts are decriminalized, then there is no need for laws that prohibits such acts and no need for police to enforce such laws.
Furthermore, whoever commits these acts are not "criminals" because there is no crime. If there is no crime committed, then there is no victim either. And no recourse for compensation or justice since no crime has been committed.
Is that what you are advocating? Decriminalizing of all acts considered as "crimes" and eliminating all laws that prohibits the acts and eliminating the organization aka police that enforces those laws?
What you are really advocating is a "lawless" society.
I take it you've never been mugged, or your property vandalized or stolen, home burglarized, family threatened, etc.
And how can the "organization" as you envision, protect people from those who loot, burn, vandalize, kill, etc,
Sounds like you are more interested in protecting the people who commits "crimes."
u_s__reamer
...all these leftists which spread hate for the POTUS forgetting that Obama bombed 3 countries (Lybia, Syria and Yemen)
This rant about "leftists" sounds like a case of incipient paranoia and the whataboutery concerning Obama's bombing of other countries is hardly relevant to America's present double crisis of a pandemic and an out-of- control and out-of-his-depth president siccing the nation's police and security forces on his own people who are protesting against the very same systemic misuse of excessive force.

I feared that Trump would start a war in election year.
Didn't think it would be one in his own country.

That's untrue. It sucks that small businesses are damaged during these protests. But I have more sympathy for being routinely brutalised and killed by the police. Unlike you.
Do whatever you like, it's your time.
I'm donating to bail funds. As you can imagine, from Tokyo, I find it difficult to interview people face-to-face who are in the US. But I'm in the office, not my apartment.
No, it isn't. Why would I want to get rid of laws?
You're wrong.
By enforcing the law. Unlike the police, who break it.
I'm interested in protecting everyone.
Toasted Heretic
Yes, US imperialism is a disease.
This is why the establishment must be dismantled, brick by brick.
The people should govern, not the politicians who fail the people repeatedly.

why would you be bailing out the white supremacists you claim are doing this?
Also why would a peaceful, law abiding protester have to be bailed out of jail? false arrest?
TheLongTermer
there is no method to their madness and those responsible for the 1st) detaining citizens to their homes during the corona 2nd) then encouraging the protesters to ignore their previous commands and run wild committing crimes need to provide us explanations for their sudden reverse in logic. Rage about the Floyd case is no excuse; we need answers as to why this was allowed to take place. For those with short term memory loss please be reminded that they were arresting people sitting in the park reading books. Now a new jump to allowing people to destroy parks. I want explanations.
I used to follow the libertarian movement, but their logic would never work because it depends on personal responsibility. As we can see, there is none in society; it shifts from one day to the next.
The only thing that works and is proven to work is a strong rule of law.
