One glad to hear that the post office and police stopped these from being delivered and preventing anyone from being injured or worse.

Two, I hope that whomever did this gets nailed and right quick.

Sounds more like a prankster. As if the sender would think the actual intended receiver would open their own mail.

@burningbush What the country needs now is law and order and stability.

That's the cry of the ever-fearful, those who want a Russia/China/Iran/Turkey/Saudi Arabia -type state, a cry of those who want big brother to take even MORE control over their lives to protect them those deemed different (real and imagined).

At Trump's ever more frequent beer hall rallies he whips up the fervor and fever of his ultra-nationalist followers.

The divider-in-chief is succeeding at further dividing a splintered nation. And his well-armed followers buy more guns and ammo. 8645

Vernon Watts, it was no prank. And yes the sender knew that the actual intended receiver would not open their own mail. But it was sent as a threat, to make people fear for their well-being. That is what terrorism is all about. Spreading fear!

Burning Bush

Notice that it is getting ugly under Trump's watch. His often inflammatory speech enables his base to act like this, and to think that it is ok. Trump is the polarizing figure in American politics..... the best thing for America is to get rid of this clown..and elect a president that has the intelligence level than that of a 5 year old.

16 ( +20 / -4 )

The November election is just days away.... this is a Political ploy, especially since all the targets were Democrats. Look at this from a voter's point of view. Would a bunch of bombs targeted at Democrats garner any sympathy and thus sway a voter to vote for a Democrat or not. You can bet one thing though, Conservatives / Republicans will see this as nothing more than a Dirty Campaign Ploy and it will more than likely enforce their belief that a Republican candidate is better than a Democratic one. I think this.... through way of a quasi reverse psychology, will actually work in favor of Republicans.

-14 ( +3 / -17 )

Track them down. Arrest them. Use the fullest extent of the law to put them into prison for as long as is allowed.

As much as I might dislike someone's speech or leadership, that doesn't mean I want any physical harm to come to them or their families. Even a bogus threat towards another human is wrong.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Don't forget that Trump Jr. has been threatened. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/ny-news-daniel-frisiello-trump-letter-20181017-story.html

This isn't a Republican or Democrat thing. This is an attack on the USA political system. Unacceptable.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

@markx Vernon Watts, it was no prank

I agree. The ultra-nationalists are ramping up their levels of intimidation. It's worrying what will come next.

Now more than ever the US needs a calm, level-headed leader, an effective communicator. Not one who further incites many of his already-angry and well-armed followers. 8645

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Which is what Dems have been doing since they lost the election. Inciting violence through “resistance”.

Those people are irrelevant by now. The crimes they may have committed are not.

A right proper Pavlovian response. The state is doing a good job.

The disintegration of the Great Satan continues, cheered on by Trumpkins and Putinbots all over the world.

Leftists are arguing with people in restaurants, and rightists answer with bombs...

And the left is the dangerous mob...

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Make no mistake, these are acts of terrorism. Designed to shut down democracy, dissent and criticism of the dreadful current administration. It's frightening but at the same time, not unexpected - given the rhetoric that belches forth from the White House on a daily basis. The deliberate targeting of political opponents, the press, minorities, migrants - it has precedent in the horrors of the 1930s.

Of course, there will be those who won't be able to condone this escalation. Instead, they shall seek to blame the opponents and thus legitimize the attacks.

Whoever is behind this needs tracking down and fast before they succeed in wounding or killing someone.

There is no excuse for this kind of violence in politics.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

No one has been preaching racism, violence or White Nationalism hate more than Donald Trump, and this is what he is igniting...scary and disgusting.

I liked America better before it got so....Great.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

Seems that it was inevitable that we'd get to this point. Luckily no one was hurt but my guess is this won't be the last.

FYI....the Fox News message boards are trying to generate some theories. The biggest one so far is Antifa, that this is them doing a false flag operation. Another is that Democrats are so fed up with our leaders losing that a Democrat finally decided to take out his rage on Democrats. No, that's not a joke. The other one I'm seeing that that Clinton said that Democrats should be "uncivilized" so whoever did this is reacting to her words, even if it is a right winger.

My guess is more will be floated around and one will finally stick with the internet message boards.

...and from all of the liberal politicians that traffic in this garbage.

The deliberate targeting of political opponents, the press, minorities, migrants - it has precedent in the horrors of the 1930s.

Yes, that goes both ways, although I don't know how migrants got into this issue except for the fact that the left don't care about border security or Americans along the border states generally speaking.

Of course, there will be those who won't be able to condone this escalation. Instead, they shall seek to blame the opponents and thus legitimize the attacks.

Well, that happens on both sides, good luck,

Whoever is behind this needs tracking down and fast before they succeed in wounding or killing someone.

I have been saying this for a year now and it's slowly coming to this, but I agree, there is No excuse for this.

It's very telling that the Trump fans start out their comments attacking the victims:

bass: But you're silent and ok of the liberal mob

and

black: Which is what Dems have been doing

Look for them to scrape together anything they can to create false equivalency, and from there they will use that to say that the real topic here is libreal hypocrisy, not mail bombs. Shouldn't take them more than 24 hours, depending on how long it takes them to create the "counterbalance" that is equal to the bombs. Look for any patterns with oddly specific refences to obscure stories. That means they've gotten their talking points and they're on the same page.

It's pretty much a standardized process now, like making a McDonald's hamburger.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

It's very telling that the Trump fans start out their comments attacking the victims:

Pot, meet kettle. Actually, manipulating the American public is easier than making a McDonald's hamburger. Both sides are responding just as the bomb makers have hoped. When will you guys learn to stop everyone as an enemy, and work together?

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

Terrible thing to do. It's OK to disagree, but we can respect and be kind to those we disagree with.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Dang, I didn't think I was this accurate. Just hopped back over to the Fox and the first three comments at the bottom of the story are:

"False Flag.....If the truth is ever known, the Left Wingnuts are sending these to themselves, while organizing the march from south America....they are desperate at this point as the mid terms approach....MAGA."

"I really wish Democrats would join the rest of us on planet Earth. So the folks calling for harassing and attacking Republicans (or any others they disagree with) are condemning it when THEY are the targets? How mighty of them.  Hypocrites."

"Sorry leftist, your ploy does not pass the smell test."

Nailed it.

The reason I'm sharing this is because people on the left really need to start understanding just how much of a tight and toxic bubble it is over in Conservativeland. Just page after page of stories and comments like these. When you talk to them about this story really ask yourself if there's any chance of reaching that person.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Just like every liberal politician already claiming- with no evidence- that rightists did this?

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

Just another example of how the far-right whips their zealots up into a frenzy with their manufactured rage, twisting of the truth, and advocating violence (and yes, I'm directly speaking of their leader, Trump), and how that translates into real-world violence.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

And as if this is a surprise - our Great Orange Instigator of Violence goes to his lounge act rallies and call his opponents "Un-American", "Traitors" and "the the enemy of the people" - and his supporters believe it - just like they believed in Pizza gate and QAnon. This is what happens when you demonize and incite - you get violence.

That the fact that Trumpsters here attempt to justify, ignore or even support this violence just shows how cultish they are - Jim Jones told his cult to drink cyanide and they did. Shoko Asahara told his cult to spread sarin gas and they did.

Just think of it - a President - someone who represents our entire nation - who is supposed to bring us together to achieve our national purpose, using hate language that incites his supporters to use violence against their fellow Americans. Unbelievable.

And it's just what Putin wants (and likely ordered his subordinate to accomplish). Trump's not the Manchurian Candidate, he's the Murmansk Candidate...

Yesterday I posted that this far-right violence will increase, and it's all Trump's fault. That's truer today than it was yesterday...

All readers, calm down please and stop bickering.

Perhaps we should, I dunno, wait until some suspects are rounded up before passing judgement on the whos and whys and hows?

BigYen.

Actually, I've had nothing but left leaning Americans telling me that I could not voice an opinion on American politics and social issues. Even had one guy challenge me to a fistfight (he backed down) over a 60 year old political issue that we disagreed on! Those on the right, for their faults, at least are willing to listen to people from the other side.

Interesting, I've been told to shut up by many right-wing Americans. I've been threatened (and even stalked) by those who don't like their views being contradicted.

It seems the age of civil discourse is gone, replaced with vitriol and now, the inevitable violence. This is a natural product of the fierce, fake and divisive language coming from Trump and his most fervent supporters.

Whatever shall we do now? Even after the demagogue has been deposed, America is not going to heal in an instant. And that sends ripples out to the rest of the world.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Chances are, since all of the intended targets were long-term political targets of the current American president and his followers, that the attempted murders are down to someone who agrees with, and/or has been influenced by, the kind of divisive rhetoric put up every day by Trump and his supporters.

That's one possibility. There are many others. I find it interesting that none of the targets were injured or barely escaped injury. As though the person sending these didn't actually want to hurt any of them.

False flags are more common than ever. The USA itself has a history of false flags. It could also be a non-government actor, from either side. Or it could be a lunatic, like the lunatics who have attacked Republicans recently. Rand Paul was assaulted and seriously injured by a crazed doctor of all people.

As others have said, don't allow yourself to be manipulated. Wait for more facts, keep your eyes open, and always question motives. It's very disheartening to see people who I know are well-intentioned veer off into hate and fear mongering. Your neighbor is not your enemy.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Perhaps we should, I dunno, wait until some suspects are rounded up before passing judgement on the whos and whys and hows?

That sure sounds a lot like ‘do what I say, not what I do’. Why would we ever do that?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Of a lunatic like the lunatics who have attacked democrats recently.

Rand Paul was assaulted and seriously injured by a crazed doctor of all people

Which wasn't politically motivated:

Boucher, who pleaded guilty in March, admitted assaulting the Republican senator, but denied it was politically motivated, prosecutors said.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1JB2WR

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yep because if it WAS politically motivated it was a felony for attacking a member of Congress. So of course he will say it wasn’t.

Attacking your neighbor with no political motives just he happens to work in Congress somehow too, misdemeanor.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Someone didn't bother to read the article. If they had, they would know it was a felony conviction:

"No one deserves to be violently assaulted," the senator said in a statement. "A felony conviction is appropriate and hopefully will deter the attacker from further violence."

Reading comprehension is hard.

Really? I see little evidence of such a tolerant, respectful attitude here.

That goes both ways, but people have TRIED to do that to me with zero success, either way, it’s bad.

It seems the age of civil discourse is gone, replaced with vitriol and now, the inevitable violence. This is a natural product of the fierce, fake and divisive language coming from Trump and his most fervent supporters.

But the left have largely acted on that violence in the most disturbing and sick way, had it not been for one of the Senators that knew CPR and how to attend to assess serious wounds, Senator Scalise would have died.

Whatever shall we do now? Even after the demagogue has been deposed, America is not going to heal in an instant. And that sends ripples out to the rest of the world.

One thing that can and should be done is the left needs to calm down and take a breath and if they don’t like the system, vote to change it, but don’t try to forcefully usurp the system. For example, this thing with the Dems should they take control of the House want to go after Trump and impeach him and Kavanaugh, this is not good and it’s just going to lead to more anger and more discontent. You don’t like something or someone, use the power of vote and not violence or acts of vengeance, the Republicans learned that the hard way in 1998.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

How many people know the mailing addresses of George Soros, the Clintons, the Obamas, and CNN?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

STILL the far right posters here refuse to condemn actual attempted murder of liberal figures and organisations. This is a disgrace.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

STILL the far right posters here refuse to condemn actual attempted murder of liberal figures and organisations. This is a disgrace.

I sure do condemn it, so you equally condemn the attempted murder on Scalise and the brutal physical attack on Rand Paul? I haven’t heard any outrage from the left.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

So, bass, does that make the real story here about liberal hypocrisy?

Its OK. Go ahead and say it.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The attack on Rand Paul was not politically motivated. Stop pushing that falsehood.

We de roundly condemn the attack on Scalise, like we condemn any acts of violence.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

This ain't gonna end well for the Left. Mark my words.
