Turkey and Qatar appear to be trying to use the incident to drive a wedge between the US and Saudi Arabia.

"very severe"

“Please don’t it again. I have to look serious in front of people.”

Since when does the US give a murderer time to do an investigation on himself?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

"get to the bottom of what exactly happened."

From reports I've seen it's pretty gruesome.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow did not have enough information about Khashoggi's disappearance to justify harming ties with Riyadh. His government will wait for details"

Same stance as Trump. What about Xi?

"Saudi Arabia needs us more than we need them: Rep. King"

"Since when does the US give a murderer time to do an investigation on himself?"

Crazy - The U.S. has no jurisdiction in investigations into incidents in other countries' consulates in other countries. It's the Turks who need to storm the Saudi consulate. Storm the consul's house too, vehicles were headed there, maybe they'll they'll find some hard evidence there.

CrazyJoe - Since when does the US give a murderer time to do an investigation on himself?

This alleged murder took place outside the jurisdiction of the U.S. justice system. Just as Canada couldn't investigate a murder in Mexico, and Sweden couldn't investigate a murder in Australia. Why blame the U.S. for a crime committed in a foreign land by citizens of another country?

U.S. response to Saudi Arabia will likely be"very severe"...

Oh, as severe as you were with Xi, Un, or Putin?

This is the chump that rolls over and shows his belly, every time he’s given compliments or chocolate cake.

Ummm, duh?

Saudis were caught. They should have known that there were cameras surrounding their compound and that a journalist would be missed.

This is messy because it happened inside Turkey, on sovereign Saudi soil, to a legal resident of the USA.

Turkey made a claim which appears to be true. Rather than own up, the Saudis tried to spin the narrative and failed. Both countries probably asked the US to help, since the US is mostly friendly towards both countries.

I haven't seen that anyone asked for the FBI to go and investigate. The Saudis did allow Turkish police into their compound for 9+ hrs the other day. Probably because they'd already used chlorine to disinfect the sites where the man was chunked into pieces.

The US plays only an "interested party" role here.

It may be up to world-wide corporations to choose not to do business with Saudi Arabia to force the truth out and perhaps force a regime change there.

This :

"Well, it'll have to be very severe. I mean, it's bad, bad stuff. But we'll see what happens."

Followed by :

"I think it's important for us all to remember, too - we have a long, since 1932, a long strategic relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," Pompeo told reporters after meeting with Trump, also calling Saudi Arabia "an important counterterrorism partner."

Still trying to find a way out of doing anything.

Trump, who has forged closer ties with Saudi Arabia and the 33-year-old prince, previously speculated without providing evidence that "rogue killers" could be responsible.

'Forging closer ties with Saudi Arabia' is PC for Trump, his family and syndicate are getting paid huuuugely by the House of Saud.

No doubt many in Trump's base believe 'rogue killers did it', assuming he meant China.

@serrano (Putin) Same stance as Trump. What about Xi?

Trump backers equating Trump with Xi and Putin. Trump's a despot-wannabe, Xi and Putin are certified despots. Trump's wannabe status has him bowing to Xi and Putin. And Netanyahu, Erdogan.

Trump wants some of that sweet oil money that for decades went to the Bush family.

No accident that Trump is repeating Putin. He got the memo and is following his orders.

That's what the Saudis said, isn't it, so it must be reliable.

Trump backers equating Trump with Xi and Putin

This is a common theme. I remember when people on both sides of the political divide took it for granted that leaders of democratic countries act in a more civilised way than despots.

Standards are slipping in a very alarming way.

Jimizo - yes. I read an article which stated that he was "posthumously dismembered," but I think they got the "post-" part wrong.

Asked whether they said Khashoggi was alive or dead, Pompeo said: "They didn't talk about any of the facts."

Well why not Pompeo? I would be demanding some answers rigrously.

Pompeo you have a job to protect United States citizens. Do your job!

If you can arrange hostages to be freed from other countries. Surely you can get us some answers. I do not buy for one second that they have not heard any (tapes) of torture. I call B.S. On that!

Well what else can be said that has not been said already in the thread. I feel so bad for this guy. Have you seen his resume? He has done allot of service fighting terrorism.  Jamal Khashoggi deserved better. With billions in defense contracts with the current leadership in the tube. This will be swept away I fear.

The Saudi Prince will be insulated on this you can bet on that.

All about that money. If this happened in the Iranian embassy it would be World war III.

The art of the deal Mr. Trump? Billions at stake. Let's see how this gets spun.

Absolutely.

But Trump will merely pay lip service to the idea of getting justice for Mr Khashoggi. The PNAC agenda and Trump profile must be maintained, at all costs.

Does not matter as long as $ is the final goal. Trump and the US government dont care about this jornalist and the $ is the end goal. Game over, world. The only way to survive is to change society.

Sad as it is, there’s really not much the US can do or Turkey for that matter.

Even listening to the 'tapes', Pompeo would be hard put to understand Arabic and know whose voice was whose. A transcript would surely have been useful, but we have already seen transcripts in the mainstream media. I guess all he could have heard 'new' is how they sourced the recordings.

The incident reminds me of Henry II in 1170 complaining about his Archbishop Thomas Becket, and four knights riding off and cutting him down in Canterbury Cathedral.

"Sad as it is, there’s really not much the US can do or Turkey for that matter."

If the Turks believe a heinous murder has taken place within the Saudi consulate in their country and the Saudis are not admitting it, screw diplomacy, storm the consulate and find the evidence. What are the Saudis going to do about it? They're being universally condemned for this.

Meanwhile everyone wants Trump to be a total imperialist, throw his weight around and shutter all relations with a foreign state. If he were actually to do that, the anti-Trumpers would bitch and moan about him being too much of a tyrant. You know they would say this because they have no problem with Saudi Arabia at other times.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

"They're being universally condemned for this."

Not by the US.
