US can, of course, impose sanctions on China and Chinese officials; however, China is not Cuba. If there is mass killings, genocide, you wouldn’t place sanctions only on cotton, you’d stop trading with China. You wouldn’t have just a diplomatic boycott; you’d stop sending athletes to China.

The clear implication is that the technology is being exported to other oppressive governments.

The US doesn't have the kinds of competitive markets envisioned by the intellectual founders of market capitalism, Adam Smith and David Ricardo. Read their works and understand just how far from a competitive market economy the US is before condemning "capitalism". What the US has mostly are big oligopolies and in some markets monopolies those are highly corrosive to market economics. Both Smith and Ricardo warned against allowing them to form. They are the source of much of the economic grief in the US today.

Kind of missing the point there, sakuasuki.
Fighto!
A step in the right direction - but a tiny one. Big corporations like Tesla and Apple need to be hit hard and punished for continuing to manufacture in China.
Massive taxes should be imposed on Apple products and Tesla cars imported into the US from China. These corporations could not care less about human rights and genocide.

Curb trade? Good idea - I suggest that all Chinese-sweatshop made shirts, ties, handbags and shoes be banned....(you can find these at the Trumpstore.com)....

Punish these sleazy businessmen and women that give Beijing millions each year that they then use to imprison Uighurs and make weapons aimed at us....

Fo The people who bought cheap stuff made in China which was then shipped by Amazon or whichever other corporation and that fell apart shortly after the package was opened should send the broken pieces back to China and/or the corporations making billions selling Chinese made rubbish.
And from now on buy things that are made locally. Support local businesses, even if that means paying a little more money. The sooner the world moves away from the fossil economy the better.

What tax incentives were taken away? Be specific.

Well, it's a start. It's nice to see that action is being taken, but a lot more action needs to be taken and by many, many more countries. China can ignore a few countries, even if America is amongst them. Harder to ignore when it's 90% of their customers.

Good. About time!

And if you want to purchase some of these products made in Xinjiang with slave labor....just visit the Trumpstore.com....your one stop for Chinese-sweatshop made goods....

By that argument, neither is Communism rotten, with the problem being the people, "not the system itself".

Biden is weak on China. The policies Biden is placing on China were already being discussed during the Trump Presidency.
Yes, The United States would go to war again if it was in her best interests.

The thing is that if the US wants others to believe that it cares about human rights and democracy and freedom, it would have to stop persecuting the whistle blowers who've exposed its crimes, stop trying to criminalize the attempts to punish the Israeli regime for its crimes against humanity, and stop trying to force people like Guaido down the throats of populations who don't want his kind ruling them.
But, of course, the only people that the US wants to fool, (and the comments show it has succeeded in that, at least with the sort of people who would cheer even if it had openly declared that it didn't care about human rights but we trying to force a return to the period of being the 'only superpower') are those who make up the core of the Imperium.

No. the output of goods and services in China, their real GDP is approximately $14 trillion for 2020 vs about $21 trillion for the US, or about 2/3 the US GDP. Total Chinese holdings of US debt is under $1 trillion. The amount of China's US debt holdings is not greater than the difference in their GDP. In any event China's debt is far higher in proportion to its GDP than that of the US, up to three times their GDP by many non government accounts (the official figure is widely derided as a lie).

More China vs US trade war, Japan benefits.
Keep it up, superpowers.

US hits China with new trade curbs, sanctions:
The capitalists can keep jumping on the communists, and the communists can go on slapping the capitalists.
This is feeding the media with endless news, fraudulent or otherwise, to keep them happy and very busy.
Never mind, move on..

They must be - look how weak they are on China, and how the speaker is so pro-China. The only person who fits that bill is Biden, right? I mean:
And look how weak his comments above are on China!

Just like Capitalism!

A USA war against China would be similar to the US invasion and occupation of Afghanistan? That is so absurd as to be funny. The only way USA could stop China militarily is by using nukes and the Chinese counter attack would wipe out USA entirely. In the event of war between USA and China, China, all 5000 years of civilization and home of most fundamental inventions in human history, is toast. USA, all 300 years of civilization and inventor of nuclear weapons and crack cocaine is also toast. The only debate is whether is whether the rest of us would go down with them. This being so, if you have a death wish, go into the forest and quietly take care of it but don't agitate for the rest of us to go down with you.

According to the UN, the number of Uyghurs over the last 10 years has not only increased but increased as a % of the population in the Xinjiang province. The CCP are the most useless perpetrators of genocide ever! Their genocide victims enjoy rapidly improving living standards and a mini population boom.
bass4funk
Which will always be the system in the US from sea to shining sea. :D

How does Japan benefit?

It's like a line from the Life of Brian.
What about the UK? Are they concerned about Taiwan's safety? Why or why not?
The US has vast cotton supplies so this isn't such a harsh measure.
Alex
Are there Uyghurs and Tibetans in Zimbabwe as well?

The Trump administration was a disaster -- apart from its China policy. It is a relief to see the US and the rest of world now waking to up to the reality that Trump (and I years earlier) warned about. Even the Western globalists, the great enablers of China's human rights abuses and other transgressions since the 1990s, are in retreat.
Ingvar
Depends what one means by "first". If it's GDP, practically speaking China is already first by a long way. I know USA plays with money borrowed (at interest) from China and counts it as GDP but insofar as output, China is by far the largest.
Capitalism is incredibly rotten and well beyond redemption but as long as it continues exist, China as the dominant power can't be any worse than the open barbarism we see now. The major powers minus USA getting together and agreeing on a new reserve currency can't come soon enough.
bass4funk
Then Biden shouldn’t bolster and pretend he’s strong and in charge and China will listen to his weak and idle so-called threats
If it’s for a worthy cause they would.
That’s you, why would Xi lie and say that so compassionately? You can believe that and if that’s the case, Biden could answer and clear it up, but as usual he just won’t take questions especially without his notes.
Ingvar
No, it won't. Capitalism will bring about the end of civilization if not the human race or it will be brought down by world socialist revolution (and I mean like, Lenin and Trotsky were socialists, not Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton) leading to communist society. It's a mathematical certainty.
The social and economic crisis plaguing all the so called advanced capitalist states is only going to get worse. That you have senior politicians threatening nuclear war with Russia was always inevitable. Capitalism can't go any other way.
Ingvar
No, it's the system. The inexorable tendency of capitalist economy.
bass4funk
Then the people that like it should keep it and hold on to it in their country. If the leaders in China love Communism so much then why do they use Capitalism to enrich themselves? This is a reason why the world thinks these people are a joke.
Well….ROFL
bass4funk
Kind of hard to do when this administration pretty much took tax incentives away from local and small businesses and so now many of them had to go out of business and make way for Amazon to come in and these policies make it easier for Amazon to come in an further crush small business
That won’t happen for a very, very long time.
sakurasuki
Do they really care about Uyghur people, know any Uyghur? Not really, they just happen to find some issue can be used against China.
bass4funk
True, even though they’re also starting to see signs of inflation.

I disagree. Capitalism isn’t rotten, certain people that took advantage of it for nefarious gains are the problem, not the system itself.
Lol, good luck with that.
