Time to officially recognise Taiwan as a country. China is going to always do things, no matter how shameful and brain damage, if it perceives it can get away with it.

Pelosi's trip should have been endorsed by the White House, the fact it isn't has emboldened China and gives the CCP legitimacy over Taiwan that it doesn't deserve.

USA has more rights (having won the war - rights of conquest) to dictate the South China Sea and Taiwan's fate than the CCP. The CCP has NEVER ruled over Taiwan. To seek to do so is pure grubby grab and The White House has to grow a set and tell the CCP to go back to their hole.

This Washington circus believes they are provoking China with their pathetic "democracy and goodwill" theater..

But they are only accelerating the inevitable reunification of China and its Taiwan province..

China knows what it is doing, these military exercises are not a protest, China is organizing the future air and sea blockade of its province of Taiwan..

China does not need a single shot to control its province of Taiwan, with only the blockade they will have them on their knees and ask for the annexation as a Chinese province that they have always been..

And I would suppose that among younger Taiwanese, the desire to be free from the "Motherland " {Orwellian term that it is }, would be even greater.

Where is the benefit, ANY benefit , for "reunification .

By the way, the term "reunification " is one crafted by the Chinese and constantly used in some weird way to suggest a non violent reproachment .

It has all the gravitas of any advertising slogan.

China announced more military drills around Taiwan as the island’s president met with members of a new U.S. congressional delegation on Monday, in a further sign of support among American lawmakers for the self-governing island Beijing claims as its own.

A failing and self-choking tactic. Setting a precedent, Beijing will have to spend money and manpower in conducting a military drill whenever foreign VIPs visit Taiwan. A military drill against a state reception for just a group of five lawmakers? But more will come one by one from Capitol Hill.

Getting data, Taiwan and the US are also grateful for China's "show-off" exhibitions. Instead of a drill, Xi better exercise how to write a resignation letter :)

It seems to me this kind of visits may provoke China to start war realistically if more American politicians visit Taiwan often.

As some highly respected international relations pundits said over the weekend, it's always smoother when Congress stays out of day to day foreign policy. For good or for bad foreign policy is the purview of the executive branch.

Hopefully Biden and Xi can meet in person in Indonesia in November.

The energy market went through the roof before Ukraine was invaded, money that Putin knew would flow to Russia, and so war started.

The money market is betting on inflation, would China take the opportunity to drive China origin supply chain goods even higher (and rub USA's nose in it)?

The Chinese can go and shoot $ hundreds of millions worth of missiles into the ocean - while the civilized world laughs at them!

Taiwan has never been a "province " of China.

And NEVER will be. Taiwan is a free, vibrant democracy. Those who suggest otherwise are all pro-CCP propagandists.

There is no country that benefits from China taking Taiwan except China.

If China wants to play the escalation game, so can the US. Lawmakers' visits can become diplomatic and military visits. And we already know that China's invasion of Taiwan will start with another massive "exercise" all around Taiwan.

The people of Taipei would have benefited substantially if the reunification had happened before they faced a global epidemic under the 'what generates the most profits for the fewest people' economic system.

They will also benefit substantially if reunification occurs while it can still be portrayed as a successful child realizing the importance of family in maturity, rather than as a not really repentant rebel forced to beg for being allowed to return as the 'friends' it had hoped would install it as the head of the family are themselves asking to become part of the family business (The largest trading network in the world)

So yes, while there is no COUNTRY in the world other than China that will benefit from the inevitable reunification of China, the people of Taipei will, with how greatly depending on the timing. Let's hope that they have leaders who will see that as something to base their policies on, rather than the leaders who took them through the start of the epidemic with entirely different priorities.

The US should send a delegate over every week or so.

How long has it been since the original Nationalist government was exiled onto Taiwan? 70-odd years? it's time to realize that taiwan has been on its own since maybe 1949. That's over 70 years ago. The CCP doesn't rule it and they need to face up to it. Suck it up like a man, Xi!

All this posturing while making their country ever more dependent on China and selling US strategic oil reseves to the CCP regime. These clowns want to have it both ways.

And just what "peaceful means" does it propose to temp the people of Taiwan to want less freedom, greater oppression and to have their lives controlled by a cadre of old men from Peking? They must be offering some very tempting incentives. Previously they offered the Hong Kong model of one country, two systems but that has been shown to be a lie. One Country with one system, complete subservience to the CCP.

China tells big lies, as it is not doing anything to peacefully bring Taiwan around to wanting to be ruled by the CCP. Nothing at all. What it is doing is using threats of war and intimidation to force a change, but the people of Taiwan have always faced Chinese threats to the point they no longer care what China does to attempt to coerce them.

China's previous two weeks of threatening exercises prompted Taiwan to put its military on alert, but were met largely with defiance and apathy among the public.

China gets angry and the Taiwanese dont care, are not worried and respond with apathy.

China simply has nothing to offer to Taiwan. Nothing at all. It is time the CCP recognized this and looked at finding out what the people of Taiwan want. They are not used to doing such things with their own people, asking what they want. It is always about what the CCP want. Dealing with free people is a completely different proposition and China are lost with no experience in that concept.

What they do is prove China has no say in what the US does and who can visit Taiwan. The only one's thinking the US is provoking war is those who believe as China does, that Taiwan is not free. Fortunately the majority of the worlds population see it otherwise. Taiwan is free, has been free since 1949 and their people wish to remain free.

If China wants to start a war it will do so. If China thinks the world will make it easy for China to conquer Taiwan then it is dreaming. They are separate and will remain so unless China invades. The world supports the current separate status of China and Taiwan.

China has NO RIGHTS of ownership or rule over Taiwan until Taiwan chooses it. Taiwan will never choose it.

Any attempts to portray America as wanting war, or to provoke China simply do not understand that China does not rule anything other than itself. It does not rule the world, the US or Taiwan. China's actions are the provocation. Chinese demands are the provocation. Chinese claims are the provocation. If China wants to continue to provoke for war, it may one day get what it seems to desperately want. It may not enjoy the outcome.

Communist China is the only provocative party, constantly bullying and threatening free Taiwan. The only party that wants miltary conflict are the Chinese - to deflect from the horrible domestic situation in that repressive nation.

I'd like to see monthly visits and increased quiet, US military, exercises with Taiwan.

It isn't like these people aren't invited. OTOH, the US House members shouldn't be going, but the Senate should. The Senate is responsible for international treaties, not the House.
