She needs to be extradited back to the U.K. Diplomatic immunity is meant to shield diplomats from frivolous claims whilst they are in foreign countries, not protect them from crimes they have committed.
CrazyJoe
The diplomat should be dismissed and his wife extradited to the UK immediately.
The real shock is the total silence by US media. It is all over the UK papers and hardly a peep in our press. This would be front page news if it were the other way around.
And of course shame on our UK embassy for telling her to flee. The point of immunity is to shield against corrupt foreign courts not getting away with killing someone.

RIP Mr Dunn. Hopefully truth will prevail and justice served. My worry is the diplomat might be associated with the Trump/Barr syndicate, and because of that will be shielded. If that's the case it would mean one more crime covered up by the Trump thugocracy.
Chip Star
There is no indication the embassy told her to flee. Being from a free country, American dependents are free to come and go as they please.

So they had her, did not suspect or arrest her, then, let her go, then they suddenly suspected she committed a crime?
And none of that is explained in the article. Sounds pretty screwy to me. Sounds like Keystone cops. Sounds like a railroading in the works. I would have jumped ship too.
CrazyJoe
Absolutely disgraceful.
She was driving on the wrong side of the road.
It has been established that she drove from the air base on the wrong side of the road, and the young man was approaching towards the brow of a hill, and had no chance to avoid the head on collision.

So much for the special relationship.
I hope brexit Britain enjoys chlorinated chicken expensive healthcare.

Is there anything to stop anyone here from naming her ? If not, then perhaps some of our knowledgeable American contributors may be in a position to do so.
mmwkdw
One also has to wonder what she was doing on a Military base... perhaps having a now, not so secret Affair ? Or maybe she was a Spy ?!
mmwkdw
Its not the Diplomats fault but his Wife's, so he does not need to be involved.
The Family of the young man, received a letter of "condolence" from the American Embassy.... that's a piss poor response. At bare minimum Cough up US Govt. 100 Million US$ would be a good amount to start with.

I suppose Boris will have nothing to say.

The elite, getting away with it again.

It is difficult to imagine the emotional torment, the grief Harry Dunn family must be suffering.
19-year-old Harry Dunn had his whole life ahead of him only to have it cruelly ended by the incompetent behaviour from the cowardly wife of a U.S. Diplomat that fled claiming diplomatic immunity.
Remember this what goes around comes around.
Fate has a habit of applying justice sooner or later.

I'd prefer actual judicial procedure than a nebulous concept. But that's just a personal opinion. But yes, using DI to escape justice is particularly cowardly.

I have faith that our sins always find us out. This unidentified 42-year-old woman believes she has evaded justice, she hasn't.

So putting the puzzle together with what little I have give the article above and information posted by others, here is my conspiracy theory: It was clear to the police she was on the wrong side of the road and totally at fault from the start and anyone else would have been escorted to a cell. But they let her go because of diplomatic immunity. That was causing a stink so now the police act like they want her for questioning, as if they sort of messed up letting her go before. So now there is confusion and in it, the outrage will be lost. Also helps explain why we don't see her name printed...keeps the confusion going.
Very different from what I wrote earlier, but given fresh information, I have rethink my opinion.
She needs to be named and extradited and given the same I would get in her shoes.
Norman Goodman
I prefer seeing people take solid action rather than fall back on an unprovable concept like all my other day dreams. She won't see justice until people lift fingers and get up off their cans.
itsonlyrocknroll
The only hope that justice will prevail for the Dunn Family is that fate will take it course.
There is no law on the statute book that can circumvent diplomatic immunity. I have been led to believe the accused, the wife of a U.S. Diplomat could, after a period of time re-enter the UK and under certain circumstances refuse to even answer questions.

Diplomatic immunity sucks for everyone except the guest diplomat and the country she/he represents. There are good reasons for it.
The US has the same issue with visiting diplomats, especially in NYC and DC with shoplifting and drunk driving. https://www.nytimes.com/1997/01/07/nyregion/officials-defend-concept-of-diplomatic-immunity.html
The UN is a big mess.
