The establishment of a Palestinian state in territories, including the West Bank, that Israel occupied in the Six-Day War of 1967 has been the focus of all past Middle East peace plans.

A few months after the 67 War, two Israeli socialists, Haim Hanegbi and Shimon Tzabar took out an extraordinarily prophetic advert in Haaretz.

“Our right to defend ourselves against annihilation does not grant us the right to oppress others,” the ad read. “Conquest brings in its wake foreign rule. Foreign rule brings in its wake resistance. Resistance brings in its wake oppression. Oppression brings in its wake terrorism and counter-terrorism. The victims of terrorism are usually innocent people. Holding onto the territories will turn us into a nation of murderers and murder victims. Let us leave the occupied territories now"

If only Israel had listened.

The US imposed sanctions on Russia for annexing Crimea, I would expect a similar response to an Israeli annexation of the Golan Heights or West Bank. Anything else would be rank hypocrisy.

Hypocrites... that is all I can say.

There were many opportunities for a Palestinian state the last 40 years. Sometimes you hold out for more and get zilch.

Um... I think this article is about the Israelis getting, or rather taking, more, not the Palestinians, and compliant Americans letting them do it.

Israel is an inner circle ally of the US.

That would imply a mutually beneficial relationship.
