Mr Kipling
Great news.... Hopefully people will soon be able to fabricate their date of birth and address on official documents too. Why not?
Skeptical
An important precautionary note, furnished by CNN Travel:
Even countries that offer a third gender option on passports can't guarantee that entry, transit or legal protection will be allowed by border control authorities of other countries.
People with these passports may need to first check with the embassies of the destinations they plan to visit on their eligibility. Otherwise, they could face refused entry, fines, degrading treatment such as questioning and/or bodily searches, detention or prosecution.

Good. Gender is a social construct anyway. I don't even know why this information needs to be on one's passport. Individuals should have the option to choose "prefer not to disclose" on the passport application and said passport should reflect this.
The Avenger
The question is: will these passports be accepted in countries that don't believe in this classification for Gender? What will happen to those presenting these passports at the airports? Will they bring on themselves a physical search to verify their true gender?
Honestly it's silly to even have gender markers on IDs in the first place. It's an outdated social construct that has no place in modern society.
NOMINATION
Yo, watch it with the pronouns! lol
bass4funk
Here we go….
Matt Hartwell
No surprise they used X. You cant keep up with the nonsensical genders invented out of thin air every other week. X,Y,Z. Sounds about right.
One day, they will allow to put in "Elephant" as your identity.
America is increasingly becoming a complete and total joke to the vast majority of the world, east and west, democratic and non-democratic, it matters not.
Eppee
Why would I care what's written on somebody's else passport ?!
theFu
I'm a human being too and would rather not have my name on any passport of visa. If I sue to keep my name private, will I win?
Think I want to change my name every 6 months going forward, just to screw with Govt records. I'll start with these https://www.lookuptables.com/text/html-character-codes increase by one each time.
ℵ is the first one.
Joe Blow
More woke nonsense, good luck when the country you're visiting refuses to accept your passport lol.
You're either a male or female, it doesn't matter what you pretend you are for validation on social media.
Helix
Bari Weiss is exactly right.
Mat
I fully agree with this. What difference does it make what the gender is if the passport is valid and the photo looks like the person?
Really, deep down, does it really matter?
(and if you think it does, please try to explain why. I'd love to learn).
Helix
There are going to be some angry “females” at immigration desks, demanding to be called “ma’am” as theyre refused entry.
Jimizo
*the laugh
Helix
Imagine the police radio traffic in the near future: “Officer down. Need backup! Perp is an X.”
Jimizo
This stuff sends the right into hysterics.
They are so on edge all the time.
Mr Kipling
Not a homophobe or hater, just don't like being told I have to accept something that is obviously not true. Is it difficult for the "woke" to understand this?
Matt Hartwell
OR
Rational sane human beings that believe in something called....
...wait for it....
"Biology"
Blacklabel
follow the science! oh wait....
bass4funk
People can believe or feel what they want it’s their right, what they can’t do is change their genetic DNA makeup. For arguments sake, If we had a nuclear fallout and the dust settles and the remaining society restarts and they exhume the bones of the people that died to give them a proper burial, geneticists and biologists will never say this particular person that died was a transgender, that will NEVER HAPPEN. Either the DNA results will come back as the person that died was either a female or male. Indisputable and irrefutable.
Blacklabel
I mean that sure is a lot to accuse someone of who simply believes in concepts of "a male" and "a female".
When did that basic concept come into legitimate dispute, scientifically? or even socially?
Attilathehungry
It is nothing to me personally how people choose to see themselves. However...
a document like a passport is designed to be used overseas. Quite often that means outside of the safe bubble of "woke" countries. It means countries where gender issues are so off the radar as to not exist. So, if the person requesting a passport with no gender included is OK with that, then so am I. Just don't want them complaining if/when they are refused entry into less woke places. Or worse, being abused/detained for their choice of gender neutral.
Concerned Citizen
In the case of intersex I can understand. But for everyone else, this trend can only result in confusion.
How will medical facilities and law enforcement for example oprate successfully if the sex of citizens is considered not relevant and not subject to disclosure?
This trend is madness.
Jimizo
One worry with the fixation on issues like this is the bandwidth problem. I see what gender people put on their passports as a trivial matter compared to far more serious problems affecting more people.
Well paid journalists like Bari Weiss can position themselves in this to get clicks, flog books, pander to the ‘world’s gone mad’ crowd ( every generation has them ) and send social media into a frenzy.
The gender issue is taking up a disproportionate amount of attention in my home country ( the UK ). Maybe I’m a bit of a dinosaur, but I’m more interested in the disgusting idea of people having to go to food banks to feed families, poorer kids going hungry in school holidays. the prospect of spiking energy costs affecting pensioners etc.
Someone putting an ‘X’ on a travel document doesn’t strike me as particularly urgent.
Joe Blow
Funny, but it's Millenials that are pushing this nonsense the hardest.
bass4funk
Just absurd.
Jimizo
Do you see this as an urgent issue?
bass4funk
I see it as a wasted one.
Bob Fosse
You’ve unwittingly hit the nail on the head. You can’t tell by looking at some people which gender they are, that is the point and why it is not important.
A (quick) thinking police officer would describe height and clothing before making a guess at gender.
Bob Fosse
Biology isn’t as partisan, isolated from other sciences or as simple as you’d like it to be. Follow the science indeed.
bass4funk
Again, there are no transgender skeletons from hundreds of years ago, only female and male, so yes, the science.
Busby
Repub Caitlyn Jenner, who you supported in the recent California Governor recall election, disagrees with you....
Tom San
More "woke" nonsense.
Kaerimashita
Another top priority delivered. Biden's admin goes from strength to strength.
Jimizo
Oh, so you agree with my ‘absurd’ take on this.
Fair enough.
bass4funk
And that is his opinion, but the science states otherwise.
Helix
I mean that sure is a lot to accuse someone of who simply believes in concepts of "a male" and "a female".
Yes indeed. And yet the workers criticize Bari Weiss for acknowledging the world has gone mad.
Busby
His or her?
Bob Fosse
Japanese ID cards used to have the word ALIEN printed on them and have my fingerprint in black ink on it.
Why were they removed? Which stage of the slippery slope was that?
Removed because they were unnecessary and offensive to some.
Things change, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. Getting angry about gay marriage by saying everyone would be marrying horses is as stupid now as it was 20 years ago. Yet here we are, someone suggesting passports will be marked ‘elephant’.
Blacklabel
ah liberals and their pronouns. Was speaking with a female friend the other day.
She asked me why its possible that biological men can claim to be the first "woman" or first "female" to do something.
I simply said "because females allow this", as a man there is nothing I can do about it. If I say something I am immediate attacked as one of the -phobics or one of the -isms.
But if females complain about it, it might change.
Blacklabel
example:
might identify as a woman, whatever. But this person is not the first female anything.
Busby
She completely disagrees with you...
*In September 2015, her name was legally changed to Caitlyn Marie Jenner and gender to female. Jenner's announcement that she is transgender came at an unprecedented time for trans visibility, including legislative initiatives.*
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caitlyn_Jenner#:~:text=In%20September%202015%2C%20her%20name,trans%20visibility%2C%20including%20legislative%20initiatives.
Yet you still support her.....interesting....
Helix
*Because she was previously a world class elite male athlete.*
with the strength, bone density, muscle mass of a man.
In other words, biologically, a man.
Indisputably true.
Helix
His or her?
His.
Blacklabel
this is not possible. she simply identifies as a woman and prefers she/her as pronouns.
She even joked that it was odd that she won "Woman of the Year" award in her first year as a woman.
Blacklabel
why wouldnt I?
It doesnt bother me in the least what someone identifies as or prefers to be called.
If a female says call me Thomas the Train, ok thats fine. Its really not a big deal.
Helix
this is not possible. she simply identifies as a woman and prefers she/her as pronouns.
She even joked that it was odd that she won "Woman of the Year" award in her first year as a woman.
Correct on all counts.
Helix
Not the way to describe people.
250 pounds of angry repressed male wearing a dress and high heels - the description fits.
Blacklabel
I wont intentionally refer to someone as he who prefers she, even if they are actually a man.
No more than I would intentionally call Robert as Bobby, if the prefers Robert.
I will play along as long as I can actually remember someone's preference.
But a man for nearly their entire life is now the first "female" admiral of a science based organization? nope.
Women should be mad, but they expect men to fix this, somehow.
